Name: Felix Asto
Race: Human
Age: 21
Height: 6'4”
Weight: 180 lb
Appearance: Felix possesses what would normally be seen as an imposing stature, if it weren't for his demeanor and still boyish facial features. He is tall enough to tower over most near-humans, and has a very muscular build which matches his frame. Contrasting with this, his face has a rounded nature that makes him look younger than he is. Normally not a solemn person, Felix often wears a slightly lopsided grin. This attitude often enhances his boyish features. Felix has impeccable posture, a result of both his training and his confidence in himself and nearly everything he does. On the few occasions which Felix finds reason to be angry his features become completely devoid of emotion, and his eyes stare into the distance.
As with most other Padawans, Felix's sandy blonde hair is shaved close to his head save for a single braid which hangs over his left shoulder, a symbol of his status in the Jedi Order. His eyes are a dull blue color, almost gray. His light tan skin is marred by many small scars on his hands, elbows, and knees, betraying his reckless nature.
Felix's wardrobe consists entirely of the standard tunic and pants that Jedi are known for, with a particular preference for dark brown colors. This is due to his classic humility as much as it is due to his laziness when it comes to his appearance. His clothes are often wrinkled and stained with dirt. While he keeps his nails short, his hands often have a thin layer of soil. Felix is never seen without his prized possession, the lightsaber that hangs from his utility belt.
Personality: In contrast with his imposing physical appearance Felix is a very kind and playful person. Similar to his previous master, Felix treats nearly everything as a joke. Unlike his master, he does not posses the wisdom and experience to tell when he's taken a joke too far. He will continue to jest about things long after they have irritated those he is with. Coupled with his tendency to rush into things, this gets him in trouble quite often, most notably when he is in the middle of diplomatic situations.
Felix's greatest characteristic is also one of his worst. He is quick to act, and while this means that he often finds himself in undesirable situations, it also means that he reacts quickly in a crisis. His self-confidence in his actions leads him to rarely doubt himself, even in situations where he probably should. It also prevents him from seeing his own flaws, and so personal improvement is a difficult thing for Felix. His recklessness lends itself to a bit of a thrill-seeking streak. Felix's thoughts are often about what he could do to make the next few seconds of his life exciting. It is because of this that he bears as many small scars as he does, tokens from jumps and climbs failed.
While he has progressed far towards eliminating his quick temper, Felix is still easily irritated when things go slowly. He often loses interest during diplomatic talks and has no patience for bartering. He believes that everything in the world is cut and dried, black and white. He has always thought that people should know what they want and cut straight to the chase, rather than play political games.
Since his master's death, Felix has fallen into a depressive spiral. The circumstances of Zyrek's demise makes the Padawan blame himself, undermining his usual self-confidence. Despite the Order's preaching that it is important to let such things go, he has found himself unable to. Many of his negative characteristics have been exacerbated by the incident, particularly his impatience.

The Politician:
Jerot Tanik, a young and rising politician on the bustling city-planet of Coruscant was on the the perfect path. His career had blossomed in the past three years, and he advanced further in those years than most did in a decade. It was a surprise to the community as a whole. This off-worlder who came from a no-name family had somehow managed to achieve more political power than should have been possible for someone of his standing. Of course, such a thing cannot occur without drawing unwanted attention.
Several powerful politicians became nervous and suspicious of Jerot's sudden success, and soon the young man found himself the target of hostile intent. The first attempted hit was sloppy, and only served to alert Jerot to the danger that he was in. Within the week he had hired a full platoon of bodyguards to watch his every move, effectively nullifying any further attempts to have him removed from office with force. Discovering this, his rivals transitioned towards more subtle methods of cutting his term short.
One particularly devious legislator hired a woman by the name of Aama Asto to seduce Jerot. The young politician was recently married, and the scandal of an affair would easily ruin his career. And so, one fateful night Aama approached Jerot at a bar that he was known to frequent. The politician, still not quite accustomed to the position that he was in, was easily seduced by the professional. The destruction of Tanik's career had a side effect: Aama became pregnant with the politician's child. By the time this was known to Aama, the father of her unborn child had already been disgraced and fled from the planet.
Nine months later Felix was born, and the routine blood test revealed that he had inherited one of the factors of his father's short-lived success: a high midichlorian count. Aama was quick to agree to let the Jedi Order take the child, leaving Felix with only his name.
The Youngling:
Felix's youth in the Temple was largely uneventful. He was an average student, struggling to master his more intellectual studies and yet succeeding in the more physical aspects of the Force. While he had an affinity for machines, he was hindered by his average intelligence, rendering the majority of his robotic creations failures. The child's greatest flaw lay in how he made strong emotional attachments to his friends, often resulting in him attempting to take the blame for the trouble that his friends had managed to get themselves into. This is not to say that Felix was a saint himself. Indeed, his tendency to act before he thought often resulted in trouble.
In his young age, Felix spent most of his time with a small group of boys his age who shared his tendency to find himself in trouble. It was due to their reckless behavior that they became friends, as they were stuck with many of the same chores. During their time scrubbing floors and dishes the boys bonded. While they reaped the benefits of being trained to be Jedi here, any other place in the galaxy would have seen that group of miscreant boys outcasts.
Many of those who took care of the Younglings halfheartedly attempted to discourage their friendship. On the one hand, they boys were much more capable of causing mischief while together. On the other, none of the boys had friends outside of their small band. As the years passed on, the caretakers became more strict about splitting the boys apart. Felix was slower to grow out of his attachments than the others of the group, and eventually withdrew into his studies. It is because of this that he is so slow to make genuine friends.
When he reached ten year of age, Felix began to become impatient about being selected as a Padawan. He had watched as some of his older friends were rejected and sent to the corps and others were picked by Knights. He threw himself into his training, particularly his lightsaber training. He believed that if he stood out as a skilled warrior he would be more likely to be picked. His plan worked, but perhaps not in the fashion that he had planned.
Zyrek, recently promoted to the rank of Sentinel, saw Felix as a challenge. While the boy had a strong foundation in combat, Zyrek believed that Felix required a much more balanced training. As such, the Knight took Felix on as a Padawan.
The Padawan:
Felix's transition into being a Padawan was far from what he had expected. As a Youngling he possessed grand dreams of how he and his master would fly across the galaxy, battling pirates and bringing order to the Outer Rim. He imagined his master to be a stern man, one who would force him through lightsaber drills day and night. Instead, Jedi Knight Zyrek focused largely on Felix's philosophical growth during his early Padawan years in an attempt to balance Felix's training. They went on many diplomatic missions, overseeing trade agreements and mediating border disputes on backwater planets. It would be year until Felix would come to appreciate his master's focus on the Padawan's weaknesses rather than his strengths.
Eventually the assignments Zyrek took Felix on progressed to become more and more dangerous, although the Knight always kept an emphasis on preserving peace rather than dealing with the consequences of violence. It was because he wanted Felix to share that emphasis that he waited so long to allow the Padawan to construct his lightsaber.
By the time Felix was thirteen he had manufactured all of the mechanical components required to create what he considered to be the the symbol of a true Jedi. As soon as he was finished, he presented the parts to his master, insisting that he was ready to replace his training saber. Of course, Zyrek was quick to correct the Padawan. It would be another three years before Felix would finally get to claim a crystal as his own.
They traveled to Ilum for the crystal, as was traditional for Jedi to do. Felix was sixteen and had shown a huge amount of skill with the 'saber, already beginning to learn the fifth form of lightsaber combat. He had managed to mature emotionally was well, slowly learning to let go of his emotions. Of course, he hadn't learned enough to prevent himself from being excited on this day. It was a rite of passage that he had been looking forward to for years.
The approach to the cave was uneventful, something that slightly disappointed Felix. He had heard many stories of the monstrous Gorgodons which made their home on the frozen planet, and part of him had been hoping to test his skills against one. Upon reaching the cave the Padawan was left to his own devices, Zyrek silently watching over as Felix found his crystal and completed his lightsaber. During this process he had a vision, one that filled him with dread.
He felt a tragedy, a sorrow the likes of which he had never experienced before. There was nothing specific about the feeling, nothing to clue the young Jedi in on what could cause him to feel such a way. Then three images materialized before him, three men who all possessed hauntingly familiar features. There were things that Felix simply seemed to know about these men, without having any particular reason. The first was a Jedi Master, dressed in modest brown robes, a master of his emotions and tool of the Light. The second was a man who had turned his back on the Force, who chose to achieve a career and have a family, a man who was happy. The third and final man was a monster, an emotionally warped being, the epitome of evil. Once the images fade Felix found himself confused, and yet successful at having created his lightsaber. He never told another person of the things he witnessed in that cave.
When he was eighteen Felix was presented with a surprise: his master had chosen to take on a second Padawan, a girl by the name of Emmi. While Zyrek claimed that his taking of another student was simply due to the lingering threat and possible conflict that was to come, his true intention was to try and teach Felix the importance of patience. Indeed, having a new Padawan in the group did test his patience. All of the old training that he had undergone years ago returned, as well as the sudden abundance of save, diplomatic assignments. Felix, feeling held back, grew more and more irritated at the situation, until Carida.
Carida was a planet just on the edge of the Core. Under Republic control and known for its extreme climates, it was the perfect place to train Padawans to withstand harsh environments without the added pressure of a mission on the line. Zyrek had taken Felix to this planet before, years ago, for that exact reason. And now it seemed as though that was why the three of them were there now. However, the Knight had other plans for his Padawans.
Soon after landing at a small spaceport on the planet, Zyrek explained to the two Padawans that their task would be to find him somewhere at another spaceport a day or so from their current location. Without much more explanation than that he handed them a small locator which would direct them to their destination and pushed them out of the shuttle. As Zyrek took off Felix took command, dragging Emmi to a run towards the next spaceport.
The portion of the planet that Zyrek had selected for their training exercise was a thick jungle, one that Felix had spent much of his time in. Because of this, Felix was comfortable and confident in the jungle, unlike Emmi. DEspite this, it was the younger of the two Padawans who noticed the signs of a rancor in the area, much to Felix's surprise. They slowed their pace, suddenly on alert. Shortly thereafter they saw the beast in the distance, and were able to avoid it thanks to the warning Emmi had seen. For perhaps the first time Felix saw Emmi as something other than a burden.
With the setting of the sun came the rain. Initially it wasn't too bad, and Felix pushed Emmi through it. However, it wasn't long before the two young Jedi found themselves in an outright thunderstorm. Regretfully Felix called for them to make camp. They quickly found a small overhang which they made refuge. With little else to do but talk until the storm subsided, the two Padawans finally got the chance to truly bond. The next morning they continued their trek, a largely uneventful day ending with the Padawans making it to the space port Zyrek had holed himself up in. Between Emmi's talent at sensing and Felix interrogating the people at the port it only took a few hours to find their master. Their exercise had been a success on both accounts. Not only had they tracked Zyrek down, the Padawans had grown to respect each other more.
The next few years passed largely without incident. Felix and Emmi had grown together, almost to the point of siblings. Felix was a constant driving force for Emmi, always trying to get her to push her limits. Emmi was the one who would constantly convince Felix to slow down and think. And Zyrek was the balance for both of them. Then, three years after their training on Carida, tragedy struck.
It was supposed to be a fairly cut-and-dried assignment. A power shift had occurred in one of the local crime syndicates on Coruscant, leaving a particularly violent man in charge. It was left to Zyrek, Felix, and Emmi to hunt down the man in charge and bring him to justice. The trio spent weeks gathering information to try and pin down a suspect. When they finally had the information they needed, a plan was formulated. Felix and Zyrek were going to wait outside a place the suspect frequented, corner him and bring him in. Zyrek, believing that there could be dangerous complications, left Emmi out of this part of the mission despite Felix's objections.
The Jedi Knight had been right, there were complications. Just as the two of them were going to spring their trap, the crime lord managed to notice the Jedi and bolted, jumping into a speeder. Felix and Zyrek followed suit, the Padawan confidently jumping into the driver's seat. They gave chase throughout the city, Felix barely managing to keep up with the fleeing mobster. Just as he thought they were going to catch him, the Padawan felt a horrible sensation through the Force. An instant later another speeder smashed into the passenger side. The rest of the collision was a blur to Felix, but once everything had settled he was faced with the horrible sight of his mangled master who had died on impact. Everything had gone so wrong in just an instant, and there was one thought that scared Felix more than anything else. It was his fault. He would have to live with the fact that the death of his master was due to his recklessness.

The sound of panting and unmistakable hum of a lightsaber were the only sounds in the training room. Felix stood at the center of the room, a handful of training remotes circling him. The Padawan held his lightsaber in the reverse-grip variant of Shien, his robes sporting several scorch marks. The remotes fired another volley of harmless but painful bolts, nearly all of which he was able to deflect. Midway through the attack a bolt caught the Padawan in the hand, causing him to wince and take another bolt to the knee before the volley ended.
“It isn't enough to simply block the shots, you must also direct them.” Jedi Knight Zyrek was leaning against the doorway of the training room as he watched his pupil. “While you must protect yourself, you have to also think about possible innocents or teammates that could be around. Remember, when you master this technique you aren't the one aiming the shots, you are letting the Force act through you to do so.” The Knight pressed the button on a small control he held, causing the remotes to fire again.
Felix emptied himself, letting the warm light of the Force to flow through him, to fill his limbs and dictate his motions. He moved in a blur of blue light, each minute gesture feeling so very right and necessary. The bolts reflected off of his 'saber blade, redirected neatly to hit and disable the surrounding droids.
“Yes!” Felix shouted, punching the air with his free hand. A grin split his face from end to end as he turned to face his master. The sound of one final shot sounded from behind him, and he felt the sting of another laser. A single remote had survived the battle. Zyrek gracefully concealed a smirk as his student faced him. “Remember,” the Knight said, “Don't let your guard down prematurely.” Felix grumbled as he moved to reset the remotes. He still had a lot to learn.
