An ingrained dedication to a vigorous exercise routine and healthy diet have helped him maintain his fit forms even as he enters middle age. His sandy brown hair, which he keeps cut appropriately short, is beginning to show just the slightest hints of grey at his temples, and the laughter lines on his face have deepened. But his warm brown eyes still reflect a youthful energy. In his dress, Leo wears the often stuffy noble and military garments with a casual ease. He's the kind of man that makes wearing an officer's uniform look as comfortable as wearing pajamas. Leo is often seen in some variation of his House Guard uniform. In civilian clothing, he is always dressed in tailored suits and is usually considered at the forefront of the fashion trends for Tapani nobility. His lightfoil, which he always has on his person, is made of electrum with wood inlays that he made himself, along with an elegant electrum d-guard. Personality Profile Leo is possessed of a quiet poise and gentle grace that can only be developed through a life of privilege. He has an easy self-confidence that has managed not to spill over into the realm of arrogance. He has a way of making others feel at ease and a talent for defusing tense situations. His sense of humor, while sometimes having notes of biting sarcasm, is self-deprecating enough to ensure that others do not find offense. Close friends would say that Leo is warm and generous, quiet but quick to laugh, and unquestionably loyal. Rivals and enemies would say that he his perfectly civil, but little else. Dueling opponents would say that he is surprisingly aggressive, considering his usually calm and quiet demeanor. While Leo takes to social and courtly situations with ease, he does need his time away from such things. At those times, Leo retreats to the solitude of his workshops. Woodworking, for Leo, is a type of meditation. Be it carving or building some type of furniture, Leo finds his center in the work and always comes away feeling renewed. He also almost always has his whittling knife and some small but of wood with him in case the opportunity or inspiration to carve something arises. Background Father • Lord Renald, 65, Head of House Cadriaan Mother • Lady Amice, 64, Formerly of House Pelagia, noblewoman Siblings • Lady Jocasa, 43, Heir to House Cadriaan, Duchess of Achillea, Head of the Cadriaan House Guard Lord Kendall, 48, Brother-in-Law, Jocasa's husband Other Important Connections • Lady Eyda, 32 at death, Late wife, noblewoman Sofie, 10, daughter Lady Thea Mecetti, 39, wife, noblewoman Nico, 8, stepson, Thea's child from her first marriage Josef and Jessa, 13, niece and nephew, Jocasa's twin children Grand Prince Eudon Mecetti, 45, Heir to the throne, cousin by marriage, friend Sir Bubbles, 3, pet tooka, honorary Colonel in the Cadriaan House Guard Overall History • Born the second child to a noble Tapani house, Leo benefited from all the privilege of nobility without the full weight of responsibility that his older sister bore. This was not to say that Leo was allowed to grow up as a selfish, out of touch brat. His parents insisted that Leo recognize and understand the duty that all Tapani nobles were obliged to follow, and so Leo was ingrained with a sense of purpose and service, even if he would not be the one to inherit the running of his family's house and holdings. He did well in his studies, preferring history and the arts to the hard sciences, and eventually was enrolled in a military officer's academy. Leo was no star student, a role which belonged to one Eudon Mecetti, who was two years his senior, but he did well. He did not show the full talent for an admiral, but he did possess a remarkable talent for mediation, which instructors helped him to develop further. Among the Tapani nobility, Leo did make a name for himself as a lightfoil duelist. It was in this activity that Leo came to know Eudon better, forming a friendship with the man. Leo met his first wife Eyda, while traveling on Gilliana. The two fell in love quickly and were married. She, the daughter of the Baron of Gilliana, was a perfect match for Leo. She was witty, playful, and so very kind to everyone she met. Even as the tension in the galaxy rose between the Republic and the growing Sith Empire, Leo found it hard not to simply be happy. When Eyda revealed that she was pregnant, it seemed the universe had blessed him beyond measure. But the pregnancy was not without complication. By the end, Eyda had been confined to bed rest, and the labor was even more difficult. The doctors managed to save the child -Eyda had wanted to name her Sofie- but Leo lost the love of his life. As war broke out between the Republic and the Sith, and as his sister and many of his friends went off to fight with their allies, Leo retreated to the spacia tree plantations on the southern continent of Achillea with his daughter. Here, he mourned in solitude, cared for his precious child, and honed a skill that would help him recover. Leo found peace in woodworking. It was the kind of peace that helped his heart heal and kept him from falling into the abyss of depression and loss. In time, Leo returned to the service of the Tapani sector. Leaving Sofie in the capable care of her grandparents and their servants, Leo joined his fellow officers in the Republic fleets, serving as a liaison between Tapani forces and Republic command, often working closely with his sister and Eudon. When the sacrifice of Tapani lives became too great and the sector declared independence, Leo was central in his family's support of the Mecetti ascension to the throne. He even helped to solidify his family's relationship to the crown by agreeing to marry Lady Thea Mecetti. She was one of Eudon's cousins, and had lost her husband in the war. Leo and Thea had met a few times in the courtly circles of Tapani nobility, and the marriage had been their own idea. While not the blissful romance he'd had with Eyda, Leo found a steady companionship with Thea that was incredibly comforting. They had a shared understanding of loss that helped them bond. When they were married, Sofie gave them a tooka kitten as a gift. Lovingly named Sir Bubbles, the tooka was quickly beloved by the entire family. Sir Bubbles, or simply Bubbles for short, developed a strong bond with Leo and has proven to be ingenious in his ability to sneakily follow the man wherever he goes. He has managed to sneak aboard ships so often that no one tries to stop it anymore. Jocasa, amused by the creature, granted it an honorary title of Colonel in the House Guard. Sir Bubbles now accompanies Leo on all his trips, allowing him to keep a small bit of home with him, even while away. Leo now serves as the Cadriaan House Guard Liaison to the crown and the Tapani fleet, working closely with his sister and his friend Eudon. In his spare time, Leo continues to shine as a lightfoil duelist and has made quite a name for himself as a spacia wood sculptor and furniture maker. |
