Her build is athletic, on the slender side but with visible muscle. Her right arm is missing at the shoulder, and has been replaced by a mechanical prosthetic. She has a consider number of scars and cybernetic implants on the right side of her body, but due to her conservative style of dress, these are features that are rarely, if ever, seen by others. Personality Profile To most who meet her, Zarene appears as a stoic, cold, and contemplative individual. She speaks softly and her dealings with others are usual blunt and to-the-point. She is quick of form negative opinions of others, and is not shy in letting her dislike of others known. However, deep down is a yearning for belonging and acceptance, and she will display loyalty and protectiveness towards those she has deemed worthy of it. Zarene does not possess that spark of a leader that inspires others to follow her. When assigned to a leadership position, she is a cold and demanding commander, but one who is fair and does not sacrifice her subordinates needlessly. As such, while she is slow to gain followers, those she does have are solid, reflecting her own loyalty. While her demeanor is typically calm and detached, there are certain subjects that can provoke an immediate angry reaction out of Zarene. Most notable are remarks or behavior that bring derogatory attention to her cyborg nature. This remains the source of a certain amount of bitterness and self-loathing for her, which occasionally manifests itself during missions as a sudden disregard for personal safety and attempting to tackle opponents who are out of her league. Background Father • unknown Mother • Jaiza Yin, 50, seamstress Other Important Connections • Dark Empress Renata, Sith Master Overall History • Zarene was born as the result of a brief affair that her seamstress mother had with a man who had claimed to be a successful businessman, and who would one day come back for her. Suffice to say he never did, but Zarene was nevertheless well-loved by her single mother. At the age of 4, Zarene's force potential was discovered by a travelling Jedi, and her mother gave her up for training willingly, knowing that the life of a Jedi offered much more opportunity for her child than that of a seamstress's daughter. As a youngling, Zarene was considered to be rather studious, a tad overly aggressive during sparring sessions, but otherwise a bit of a wallflower. Her training during this time was fairly ordinary, consisting of all the basic skills that younglings were expected to know. This continued until shortly after her tenth birthday, when a knight named Ralth Telvin saw the potential in her, and took the her as his padawan. The young Zarene had a great amount of respect for her master, and at times thought of him as the father that she never had. Ralth had a lot of confidence in his padawan, and took her on many missions with him across the galaxy. He was also a man who believed very much in each jedi having their own individual strengths and talents, and that the Order gained from such diversity. This philosophy had a huge influence on how Zarene was trained. When it came to training, Zarene would excel in some areas, yet do quite poorly in others. Her greatest strengths lay in the more physical aspects of the Force, such as telekinesis and physical enhancement abilities. Daily exercise and training meant that she was in excellent physical shape, which combined with the Force allowed her to move with speed and agility. With telekinesis, while she did possess considerable raw power and potential, her real strength lay in the precise manipulation of small objects and maintaining multiple flows simultaneously. This was demonstrated in one of their missions where after being disarmed in a fight with a group of mercenaries, Zarene was able to throw four knives guided by her telekinetic abilities to hit four different targets. On the other hand, her Master's attempts to teach her more advanced techniques such as Healing ended in failure more often than not. She had a particular weakness with telepathy, though her master made sure that she at least had a familiarity with defensive techniques to resist telepathic attacks and attempts at mind-reading from others. Her skill with a lightsaber was average at best, although strangely, she seemed to develop an affinity for blaster weaponry. The same Force-enhanced reflexes that allowed most Jedi to fluidly wield a lightsaber and to block blaster shots helped improve her marksmanship, to slip that crucial shot past an opponent's lightsaber defense. While the Jedi normally did not actively encourage padawans to learn these sorts of weapons, they weren't going to actively stop her from doing so either. On missions with her master, she always carried a blaster pistol next to her lightsaber. She was eighteen years old, and considered well on her way to knighthood, when everything changed. It started like a routine peacekeeping mission, a conflict between an outer-rim local government and a Hutt crimelord that just needed a bit of Jedi intervention. But things were a bit more complicated than the Jedi had at first believed. By the time the Jedi sensed the trap, it had already been sprung, and they were caught in a deadly hail of blaster fire. Her master attempted to cover the escape of the rest of their party, and fell defending her. Zarene found herself overcome with sorrow and rage, swing her saber wildly, trying to kill as many foes as she could. In her blind fury, she did not see the grenade until it was too late. Her body lying broken on the ground and bleeding from a dozen wounds, the last thing she saw before losing consciousness was a ship escaping the area, the ship containing the other Jedi. She woke up strapped to a medical time, limbs bound immobile. Found by the Exchange following the battle, she has even extensive surgery and cybernetic reconstruction to keep her alive. Such charity came with a price however. A force-using fighter was valuable, and the Exchange wanted to see their investment pay dividends. Filled with fear, anger, and despair, the anguish of losing her master, her feelings of abandonment, and loathing of her new cybernetic form, Zarene turned her back on the Jedi Order, excepted the Exchange's offer. For several years she committed herself to her work, taking bounties, collecting debts, performing assassinations. The fighting kept her mind off of things, saved her from having to wallow in depression and self-pity. She rarely touched her lightsaber during this time. The weapon, while deadly, wasn't of much use to her. It attracted too much attention, especially Jedi attention, which she did not want. On the other hand, her skills with blasters grew, with her ability to use dual blasters gaining her a reputation as gunslinger. Her favorite pair of blasters, a set of heavy SoroSuubs, were given to her by her Exchange boss for a particular mission against a group of Mandalorian mercs, where the high stopping power of the blasters proved quite effective against the heavy armor of the mandos. Several years later, hunting a fugitive to Subterrel, Zarene encountered a Sith Lord, who sensed the potential in her. Taking advantage of her anger towards the Jedi, as well as her yearning for acceptance, she was swayed and recruited into the new Sith Order. Finding a master in Darth Renata, she served loyally, distinguishing herself in many battles. However, after the advent of peace, she found herself increasingly restless. |
