Name: Essa Variyas (née Escara)
Race: Human (Naboo)
Age: 34
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 115 lbs
Appearance:
Much like her younger brother, Essa Variyas has the dark brown eyes and raven hair so common amongst Nabooan nobility. Essa generally wears her hair pulled into a loose bun adorned with all manner of beads and flowers. Her tanned skin and well-formed face lend her astounding beauty with a definite touch of class.
Essa has a slender, well shaped body, whose natural curves are accentuated by her fashionable choice in clothing. When living on Naboo, Essa favoured the slimmer, more feminine shape of the less formal variants of Nabooan fashion over the wider skirts and higher collars often adopted by royalty. Now on Chandrila, she adopts far more practical, yet still astoundingly elegant gowns so that she may work and play unhindered.
Birth place: Keren, Naboo
Occupation: Teacher
Rank: N/A
Bio: Born to Theej Escara (the Prince of Keren) and his wife Shiraya Escara (née Visvasa), Essa lived a very comfortable childhood. Despite being an only child for the first eight years of her life, Essa was never lonely, and enjoyed the company of a wide circle of loyal friends.
When Essa was eight, her mother gave birth to a baby boy named Avirod – who was later to become Prince of Keren and a renowned Galactic Senator. Essa and Avirod soon developed a strong relationship that would prove invaluable to both in later years.
At the age of fourteen, Essa, Avirod and Shiraya moved to Shiraya’s hometown of Dee'ja Peak in order that Avirod might receive a better education in the fields of Politics and Interstellar Relations. It was here that Essa would meet her future husband Ruwee Variyas and set in motion events that would lead to an almost insurmountable family rift.
The first few years of life in Dee'ja Peak however, were all that the family had hoped they would be. Shiraya was able to continue writing her famous novels from her bedroom in her parents’ townhouse and Avirod’s progress at school was astounding. Essa filled her days with education, socialising and occasional forays into the realms of poetry – at which she proved to be rather adept. One day however, this would all change.
Returning from the eighteenth birthday party of a friend, Essa and two of her high-society companions decided to stop off in a decidedly seedy cantina. They got talking to a few of the “common folk” but soon decided that it would be a good idea to leave. As Essa stood up however, her own brown eyes met the striking blue ones of a melancholy young man sitting at the bar. Bidding her friends leave, she approached the man, and the two began to talk. By the end of the night, Essa was hopelessly in love.
Essa and the young man, Ruwee - a student from the small farming town of Theed, studying in Dee'ja Peak to become a teacher - began a clandestine, whirlwind affair filled with passion, romance and excitement. Soon however, it became apparent that things could not carry on the way they were. for Essa’s father had committed the foulest crime imaginable. He had found her a suitor.
The suitor was handsome and wealthy, the son of the Prince of Dee'ja Peak, with whom Prince Theej was attempting to establish a strong political alliance. Essa was practically forced to enter into a formal, respectable courtship with the man and soon found herself attending countless parties and balls in their honour, all the while trying desperately to forget the life of love and excitement she had found with Ruwee.
Little under a two years later – shortly after her twentieth birthday – Essa decided that she had had enough. She confronted her father, confessing her love for Ruwee and declaring her intention to leave immediately for Theed. Her father pleaded with her to stay, asking her to think of the Escara name. She refused, and was swiftly disowned.
Travelling directly to Theed, without the benefits of the wealth to which she had become so accustomed, she set about trying to find her lost love. After three months of fruitless searching, she was about ready to admit that she had perhaps been hasty in her decision to leave, when who should enter the cantina in which she was drinking, but Ruwee. The two reunited lovers embraced passionately and returned to Ruwee’s small home. They were married the next day.
Nine months later, the young Essa gave birth to the couple’s first child, a young boy whom they named Makiro. The two Nabooans doted on their child, showering him with love and affection in place of the money and comfort they could not provide. Two years later, another baby was forthcoming – a baby girl who was named Sola after Ruwee’s aging mother. During this time, Essa’s brother Avirod (now a well-known figure in Nabooan politics) provided invaluable – if secret – aid to the family.
To add to the family’s troubles, it was soon discovered that Makiro was Force-sensitive, and he was taken away from the family for training by the Jedi. Proud of their son’s acceptance into the noble Order, but stinging from his absence, the couple spent the next few years of their life doting on their remaining child. A further two years later, Essa gave birth to a third child, a boy whom they named Joryn. It was decided that the family could no longer support itself on Naboo; despite the fact that Essa’s brother had recently been made Prince of Keren, he was unable to substantially support them, for fear of disgracing his family, himself and his father - the new High King of Naboo.
Ruwee and Essa, along with Sola (3) and Joryn (0), gathered together their few meagre possessions and took the next ship to Chandrila – choosing the planet for its reputation for tranquillity and freedom – with monetary aid from Prince Avirod. They soon settled in Hanna City, a place where Ruwee’s skills as a teacher were far more appreciated. Essa, too, decided to become a teacher, and the two lovers started a career at the same city school.
By Joryn’s fifth birthday the family had enough money to purchase themselves a larger house in a small, out-of-the-way village, where Essa and Ruwee’s teaching skills quickly elevated them to well-liked pillars of the community. They have now been living in this idyllic community for two years.

RP Sample: Essa Variyas opened her deep brown eyes slowly and contentedly, her head softly cushioned by her silky pillows. Lying still for a brief moment, she enjoyed the luxury of silence, before…
“MUM!” Screamed Sola, “Mum! Ryn’s breaking my dolls again!”
Essa groaned, the stillness of her world destroyed, and swung herself out of bed. Shrugging on a silken nightgown, she padded out of the room and into a veritable war zone of broken toys and spilt tears. Oh the joys of motherhood.
An hour later, troubles resolved and friendships mended, Essa sat down at the kitchen table with her two children – Sola, ten, and Joryn, seven. It was at moments like this that pangs of sorrow really tugged at Essa’s heartstrings. Regret for all the family she had had to say “goodbye” to in her life. Her father, her mother, her first son, her brother; all had been separated. Still, one had to put on a brave face.
Standing up, Essa began to clear away the breakfast things with scant help from Sola and Joryn. After the task had been finished, she set about preparing the two children for school – not as easy a task as it sounded. Once they had been successfully bathed and clothed, she prepared herself for school, or, more accurately, for the school in which her and her husband worked. Pulling on a plain blue gown – not as extravagant as the clothes she had once enjoyed in the upper echelons of Nabooan society, but practical nonetheless – she pulled her raven hair into her signature loose bun.
Pleased that herself and her children were adequately presentable, she woke her husband with a kiss on the cheek, saying, “Wee, dearest, the children and I are off to school. I shall let you sleep in for five more minutes, but when I return in half an hour, I expect you to be breakfasted and dressed.”
So saying, she marched down the stairs, opened the front door and stood, hands on hips, in the doorway. Glorious Chandrilan sun streamed through the open door, accompanied by the soft trilling of myriad birds. A soft plopping noise emanated from the family’s ornamental pond – just to the left of the door, underneath the large Tintolive – indicating the egress from the water of a fish whose underwater stint had clearly proved too much. Hurrying to the side of the water, Essa hitched up her skirts and knelt down. Cupping her hands, she scooped up the little striped fish and placed it gently into the water, where it swam off resolutely towards safer depths.
