....Yes it's me again. Please don't run away. I shall try to keep it brief, well briefer than before. Lately the quality of the c-box has declined. It is not just the staff that has noticed this, as we have received multiple complaints on the matter. No single person is to blame, though I do admit we may had never put up any formal rules about the c-box because we never had any need to until recently. We have warned people several times but from today the rules regarding the c-box will be abundantly clear. Keep in mind, the c-box is a place where many new members come looking for help. We can't do so efficiently if people are spamming the c-box with their political/religious opinions. If you have a desire to partake in aforementioned discussions, please do so through PM and/or messenger services. I don't think that is too much to ask, do you? Speaking of new members, as of late some of our members have been quite rude to newcomers. We welcome everyone here at SWU, which is first and foremost a place for enjoyment. The last thing someone wants when they are looking for a place to relax is a member of our community being unreasonably rude to them. Consider yourselves warned, because the next time any staff sees disrespect to any member(new or old), I'll stop being the lovable admin I usually am. Anyways, I think the point has been made clear. The following are the new rules for the c-box, which will be posted alongside the c-box shortly. If the quality of the c-box continues to decline, we may be forced to remove it all together. C. Cbox Rules: - No Cursing, it is not tolerated on the forum or in the cbox.
- No racism or any other offensive comments, including personal attacks against other members or guests.
- No spamming and no spamming of links.
- Do not advertise other forums in the cbox, take it to the advertisement section.
- Do not troll and do not respond to anyone attempting to troll, simply report them.
- Do not impersonate staff or any other member of the board.
- Do not discuss major issues such as politics and religion as these things lead to fighting.
- Generally be polite to each other and to guests/potential members.
- If there is an incident, do not get involved. Contact a member of staff, otherwise you will likely be punished for your involvement as well.
That is all.

Hello all, just a small announcement from myself.
I don't know why I never did this earlier, but ever since I became admin for SWU I've had access to the admin account. Today I finally changed over to that account, so I didn't just keep logging into the account when I needed to use some features that can only be used on it.
Why am I telling you this and how does it affect you?
Well, simply, any PMs you send to me now need to be sent to the user 'admin' and not the user 'jenno', otherwise it won't be sent to the right account. For the next couple of weeks I'll try and check my inbox regularly to try and catch any PMs that might get sent there, but please try and remember to send them to 'admin'.
Thank you,
~Jenno

Another announcement? So soon? Hopefully this is just the beginning my friends...
Anyway, two small things. First of all, another attempt at providing Skype information as a number of members have come to use it as their main means of contact (it's certainly the easiest way to get ahold of me). So now you can add your Skype to your profile here. And if you wish to add someone on the board to your contacts? Well, simply click on their Skype symbol and you will either be directly linked to a chat with them or asked to open Skype in order to chat with them, from there it's a simple case of adding them. If you see any issues with this in forms of coding incidents, please let me know immediately.
Next on the list is a new section for the roleplay boards. This is for an update still in the works (getting closer now) and because of the instances we've had where members have asked about adding planets. The task of adding planets is a long and tedious one, I should know, I'm the one who does it. When we last updated the planets I believe we added a total of about 30, it took me a couple of days to get all of that done, and now we have 108 planet boards. However, on our Galaxy Map, we have somewhere between 220 and 240 planets, and adding them all would take me a serious amount of time.
So, in order to avoid this, we've made a new section for roleplay entitled 'Miscellaneous Planets', located above the 'Space' section and below the 'Wild Space and Unknown Regions'. Essentially, this board is for any threads which take place on a planet we do not have a board for. However, the planet must still be located on the site's Galaxy Map. If it's not on there then you need to contact me about putting it on the Galaxy Map (this is because we have to establish site canon for the planet). Another rule of this new section is that you also have to put the name of the planet you're roleplaying on in the title of the thread, before the title of the thread itself, i.e. 'Thila - Never Left Behind'.
The idea with this section is to allow members to roleplay on different planets we may not have added. Also, if we see a large amount of roleplay on a particular planet, we will then consider adding that planet as a permanent fixture of the roleplay boards.
I hope you enjoy these recent updates and look forward to the upcoming announcements.
Thank you,
~Jenno

Hello folks, just a brief announcement to let you all know that Twysper has temporarily been returned to the status of mod in order to help with the large number of applications in the Jedi section. A number of the staff are currently away, as you can expect over the summer break, so please try and hold on as we try and get through the profiles currently waiting to be seen to.
Thank you,

Around about now, on a website right here...
I’m announcing some promotions! Yes, after a fairly long drought, some of our members went out and started reviewing profiles, they’ve impressed us and after talking to them, they both seem quite happy to join the ranks of the NGT.
So, without further ado, I would like you all to welcome lmr and Cadyren to the ranks of the NGT. They’ve both put out a number of reviews across the board which have been helpful and insightful, not to mention they seem quite eager to help out around the place. So thank you both, and welcome to the team.
If there are any of you out there interested in becoming an NGT, just follow their example and start throwing out some helpful reviews. We’re always on the look-out for more members to join the ranks of blue.
Thank you,
~Jenno

There’s another promotion to announce, but first of all something not so joyful.
One of our current NGTs has told me that they want to step down. So sadly Hax will no longer be an NGT. Hopefully though he will still be around to RP and if the desire to review returns to him the arms of the NGT are always open.
And speaking of which we have a new NGT promotion. We’ve had our eyes on this one for a little while now, they’re relatively new to SWU but their dedication to reviewing as a member was quite phenomenal, as demonstrated by the hand written review they did and then scanned into their computer. Without further ado, please welcome Clarylla to the ranks of the NGT. Hopefully her growth as a reviewer and member of SWU will grow even more in this position. So please everyone congratulate her.
And again, we’re still working towards what the staff believes to be an interesting reveal.
I do like to tease.

Hello everyone! Just a short and sweet announcement from me this time, regarding the upcoming 2011 SWU Awards. Now, because last year the Awards were being overhauled a bit, the whole process got started a bit late. This time, I'm hoping to give everyone enough time to participate if they want. And that I will also receive the 'required' set of members for the nomination team, without resorting to using the entire staff team to fill in the blanks. So, this announcement's purpose is mainly to get you all thinking about whether you want to be a part of the process and be included on the team. (I need one admin, two mods, three NGT, and three regular members, for a total of nine). The only requirements for the position is that you have been a member here since at least Jan. 1st 2011 and will be fair in picking your nominations, as well as a small time commitment in which to compile your list. (You will have probably a month in order to do so, so even the busiest of members will be able to participate). I do not need any PMs about this at this time. This is merely to get you thinking about this. In a few weeks, preferably sometime in October, I will be making a formal request for the Award nominations team. Then, if you have decided you can be a part, members will be added to the team on a first come, first serve basis. Then in November/December, the team members will compile their nominations. And then in January of 2012 (hopefully) the nominations will be ready for voting, which will be open for approximately a month. Then, the winners will be revealed sometime in February. But really, all that nonsense is unnecessary right now. I just have a tendency to ramble. If you read only one thing off this announcement, it should be this:Think long and hard about whether you are able to be a member of this nominations team for the 2011 SWU Awards. The time commitment is not very large, and you will be doing myself, and the rest of the SWU community a huge favor. Hopefully when my next announcement comes along, my PM inbox will be flooded with replies. (But only then; I do NOT need any PMs at this time regarding joining the noms team). -- Mara. PS: As always, if you have questions, please ask. I know I can get a bit wordy sometimes, and let the main issue get lost in the sea of words. [For more information regarding the changes to the Awards and the new system, read my announcement from last year].

I’ve been mentioning quite a while about an update that the staff is working on. Well, the time is upon us, as we make the final few finishing touches to this little project of ours we’re preparing to introduce it to the rest of the board. However, as this requires some moving and re-arranging of the boards/threads, SWU will be temporarily turned offline so that the edits can be made smoothly.
So, this Thursday (October 6th), SWU will be taken down at the following time:
15:00 BST 14:00 GMT 10:00 EDT 07:00 PDT
The work should take no longer than an hour to be completed. Thank you for your patience and I look forward to unveiling our new idea in a couple of days.
Thank you,
~Jenno

Hello folks, so we had our downtime as scheduled. So now you’re probably all wondering what the big reveal is, and what it is we’ve been working on these past months. Well, now there’s no more hiding it.
We have done away with the Roleplay Partners board as there was really no difference between it and the Roleplay Request board (all threads from Roleplay Partners have been moved into Roleplay Request, including the NPC sub-board). But of course that’s not it, that would be a lot of build up over nothing. Instead, it’s what we’ve replaced that board with that’s gotten me motivated and kept me busy for a while now.
To sum what’s happened up into one word, missions. A little while back I took a look at what areas SWU was lacking in. I saw something quite interesting; we often get a lot of people join, sign up, make a character, post a request and then vanish. I also noticed a real lack of anything going on for Fringe, Military and Civilian characters. And the big gaps we have between major events can make things seem a little dull. So I wondered how we could rectify this, and the idea of missions came to mind.
Now to save me from repeating myself, here’s the explanation of missions from the missions board:
It’s a risk, it’s work and it’s experimental, but I really think that these missions are going to be a way for us to really help pick up interest and allow characters to do so much more. Before there used to be a risk when setting up your own mission, but now instead of having to do that, you can simply sign up to one of the existing missions, or even submit your mission idea to us so that we can make sure it’s a-okay.
Not only this but I have some quite exciting plans for the Fringe missions, almost like a main, over-arching story, you might say, that will have a big impact upon the galaxy. These missions allow such things to take place now, and they allow the members to be important parts of it, instead of it just being down to the staff to make things happen.
So, if you have any comments/suggestions/feedback/initial thoughts, you know where the feedback board is, I hope you can all see the potential within these missions, and the fun that can be had.
Oh, we know what we’re going to be working on next, so hopefully looking forward to that in a few weeks.
Thank you,
~Jenno

A slight detour now from our current happenings of missions and wild whispers of future work for this current announcement. This is an announcement of both joy and sorrow, but which to start with. We’ll go with the sorrow. I’m sad to announce that per his requests, Latus is now no longer a member of the NGT. Due to real life hectic-ness he no longer has time to take part in NGT duties. As a long-serving member of the site and one of my oldest SWU friends, I’m saddened by this news. But fortunately, he won’t be leaving us completely. He has limited time but will still be looking to take part in a few roleplays. Good luck with real life and I hope that you’ll eventually be able to come back to us, full-time . And for the much happier aspect, there is a promotion to take place. This one shouldn’t really surprise any of you; in fact the surprise should be that he was never promoted sooner. I’ve put it down to my personal dislike and bias of the sections in which he does his work. But finally Arheim is being promoted to full mod status. I’d like you all to congratulate him on this well-deserved and long overdue promotion. Now technically he really is the Tech Mod (see what I did there?). A quick mention on the missions. I would like to say that I’ve heard a lot of suggestions about the staff playing NPCs or having a dedicated group of members control the NPCs for missions. However, we would like to have you, the members, be self-sufficient in your roleplaying. If you folks can take part and NPC your own missions, then it leaves the staff much more time to focus on other things such as approving applications, developing another idea we have in the works, debating new ideas, coming up with new major events/battles and actually being able to roleplay with our own characters (which at the moment is often like a rare treat, certainly for me). If you roleplay NPC characters it allows you to experiment with character types that you might either be interested in making or even in something that you’ve never tried before, whilst at the same time playing an interesting part in a roleplay. So please, do consider NPCing for some missions, you’ll help the entire system run much smoother. And also, again, any of you who might be interesting in approaching the staffing ladder; we are always keeping an eye out for more potential members of the Next Gen Team. Here’s a brief/general guide of what we look for in members when we are considering new potential NGTs: swrponline2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=boardrules&action=display&thread=4846You can all play an important role in keeping this place going and making it run as smooth as possible, if you so choose. Thank you, ~Jenno

Hello members!
Here is finally my companion announcement to my previous one, regarding the 2011 SWU Awards. Due to ease (and my laziness) I'll just copy/paste my announcement from last year, with some changes.
All right, the main issue here is the gathering of the team that will do the nominations for the Awards. Again, I'll need 1 admin, 2 mods, 3 NGT and 3 members, giving us 9 total**.
The only real requirements for these members would be that they are fairly active on the forum, have been a member at least since Jan. 1st, 2011, and have a decent knowledge of members/characters/threads/plots/etc. on the forum. Don't completely worry about the time commitment, though; if all goes well, you'll probably have at least a month to compile your nominations. I think most members could handle that.
Originally, the idea was to have all nine come up with nominations jointly in a special sub-board,, but I know how hard it is to get people to all work together sometimes, so as I did last year, you'll just be each sending me a separate list of your nominations. Once I have everyone, the team members will get a PM with your nominations form and instructions.
Anyway if you are interested in being on this team, and meet the small requirements, please PM me ASAP, as the slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please do NOT sign up anywhere else, including threads and C'box. It has to be in PM only. It just helps me stay organized. I am hoping to fill these positions by the end of November, so that things can get all sorted out in time for nominations to be done by mid-to-late January. So that we can have voting commence around that time and have the results sometime in February. But if there are still slots open by then, I will be sending out reminder PMs every week until I get all nine. If the Awards are late, then they are late. But hopefully I will get enough people in time and we won't be revealing the winners in the middle of summer.
If you have any questions, and are interested, please PM me promptly, so that we can sort anything and you can get a slot before they fill up. Also, there is further information on my previous announcements (up there, on page 5 and others back on page 4).
Thanks! -- Mara
** -- Having a group/team of people from all 'walks of life' on the forum doing the nominating is not meant to take the power away from the general public, but as a means to more effectively carry things out a lot more efficiently and quickly. -- Also, by ensuring a variety of staff and member positions on the team, there should be a fair and balanced set of nominations.

Hello swuvians, got a short announcement.
As we know, the Fringe section does sometimes get backed up, with the two current mods often having to deal with issues that crop up in real life. So, after talking with Talau and the Admin team, I'm set to expand my mod work into the Fringe section to help out. Now, I'll still be over the Military section, as always, but now I'll also be providing relief mod work in the Fringe section to try to help get things going more quickly. It's an arrangement that should work out well for all parties. So I'll start setting up shop there very soon.

SWU members --
Well, the end of November is upon us, and so far, how many positions on the SWU Awards nominations team do you think have been filled?
Just one. Yes, one. That means I still need eight more of you.
I highly suggest that each and every one of you consider this, if you qualify, of course.
It is NOT a huge time commitment. You will have a fairly large chunk of time in which to compile your nominations.
I will keep posting announcements and sending out mass PMs until the entire team is filled. But remember, the longer it takes to fill out the team, the longer it will take for the rest of the Awards process.
Also, though I'm a patient person, I will not wait forever. There will be a certain that, if the team still isn't filled, there is a high possibility that the Awards will be canceled altogether. And I don't think any of you would want that.
Now.... again.... I need eight more members of the team, and I've made a little modification to the team members, hopefully in order to fill it more quickly.
Of the remaining eight, I need: one admin, two mods, and five others (NGT, RMP, regular members).
If interested, please PM me ASAP, for positions will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
If you have questions, please ask. Any pertinent information should be listed in my prior announcement (two above this one).

Wellllllllll it looks like its the end of the road for me folks and it has been a damn good ride.
Some of you may already have seen this coming but I no longer have the desire to RP Star Wars as I once did, and neither do I feel motivated to do any of the duties that I should as an admin. SWU needs motivated people to keep it moving, and I ain't fit for that. SWU was the 2nd RP forum I had ever been on, and writing here has done wonders in improving my RP. I've also met a bunch of good people here and had a bunch of good times. I can't say for sure if I'll come back to RP at some point but I'll definitely stop by every once in awhile. So apologies to any of those people who I was currently in a thread with but it was better I did this sooner rather than later.
These types of posts aren't my thang, so let us just leave it at that.
Good luck and have fun (Y)

Post by Jenno on Dec 9, 2011 13:08:28 GMT -5
Hello folks, quite a large announcement for you all. There’s much work to be done with SWU. Given that Jace recently stepped down, I figured I’d take a moment to talk to you all about some of the things that are on the road ahead for the site. First of all I just wish to make a few updates and talk about the staff. As some of you may have noticed, Kellaishleya has been very busy with real life for quite a while. The truth of the matter is that she spoke to me a little while ago about stepping down, but I never got around to making it official. It will be sad to no longer have her be part of the staffing team, but she has told me that she will stay around in order to roleplay and has expressed an interest in helping out the Reolplay Mentors. At the same time, Twysper came back briefly to help us out with the Jedi section, but it was stated that this would simply be temporary and so he’s now been moved back to purple again. So where does this leave us? SWU’s down on its staff members at the moment, and there’s nothing we can do alone to resolve this. We need you folks, the members, to step up to the challenge. For any of you who have been interested in becoming a staff member, there has been no greater opportunity to do so. Of course, we want to maintain a certain standard of moderation, so we won’t simply be choosing names from a hat; we still want to see people put in the effort for the position. For a general idea of what we look for in prospective candidates, take a look at the brief guide for some guidance: How To Become StaffHopefully there are some of you out there who’ll take this opportunity and I look forward to watching candidates grow. Now, dealing with activities outside of the roleplay on the forum, I recently sent out a PM regarding the search for someone to head up a SWU guild for The Old Republic, which will hopefully allow members to enjoy the game with people they know and also help them meet other people, who might in turn come to find a home here on SWU. There will be updates to come regarding the status of this SWU guild. At some point I will also be looking to revisit the use of a podcast on the forum, most likely with more member input than there previously was. I’ll be seeking interested parties, more than likely after I’ve sorted something out for a SWU guild for ToR. And there’s still more. I’ve come to the conclusion now that after being around for half a year, those with members in the Sith Order are ready to adapt more of the Sith culture. By this I mean that soon I will be looking to give the proper ranks/titles to members of the Sith and to allow members to sign-up straight away as a Sith Knight/Master (once the existing initiates have been given their proper ranks), given that they fill certain criteria within their bio. The Sith application and information will be adapted to include this update. However, positions on the Inner Sanctum will still only be attainable through roleplay. For those of you with Knights/Masters who are currently listed as Initiates, start thinking of those Sith names you want for your character. There will be another thread or announcement posted up when this is ready to be enacted, though I wouldn’t expect it to be too far off now. Also, Meira and I are also working to develop a new Major Event for people to take part in, there’ll be hints of it around, but work will likely be somewhat slowed on this until we have resolved some of the issues such as filling the staff roster and updating the Sith ranks/names. Also over the next couple of weeks we’ll be going over what to do with the positions of Grand Master and Mandalore. Keep an eye out for further information regarding our decisions on this issue and some of the others mentioned above. Whilst it’s sad to see some of our staff step down, it is by no means the end of SWU, it simply means that doors have opened for some. I thought it necessary to make an announcement so that you folks good get a grasp of where the site and its staff currently stands and I hope what I’ve said has sparked interest in some of you. Thank you, ~Jenno

Alright my lovelies,
I know our dear Jenno just announced our recent staff changes yesterday, along with some other announcements, but I've already got an update for you!
I'm pleased to announce that Lmr will be moving up from the NGTs and taking a place as Moderator for the Jedi section! He's been quite dedicated to his reviews and has become very thorough in the process, helping to ensure that all of our members can make the most of the characters they create.
Now, don't go thinking that we're not still on the lookout for future potential staff! You might have noticed that we had two mods in the Jedi section before, and we'd like to see that again! So please, please, please show us what you've got!
Now, until that second mod position for the Jedi section is filled, I'll still be doing my best to help out and review when I can, so if you need some help or if you're confused about anything, feel free to shoot me a PM and I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can. But don't forget you've also got Lmr with full review and approval powers!
Stay tuned guys, we've got a lot going on behind the scenes and we're hoping to get stuff rolled out as soon as possible.
Love and Memories, ~Meira

Given the progression of the story/time, we feel there are some changes that need to be brought in. And these changes are to do with the Sith.
So, as the Sith have been an established group with a base of operations on Korriban for about half a year now, we’re going to alter some of the rules regarding them. First of all, for all existing Sith, those with the power levels and previous ranks of Knight and Master, it will be assumed that over these months, your character has learned enough of the Sith to be able to pass on their teachings.
To this extent, those of you with Knight/Master level Sith Initiates will therefore properly be able to advance to the according levels. With this comes the need to take on a Sith name (Masters also get the title of Lord/Lady along with their name, but Darth is still only earned through RP). There is no time limit on when you must come up with a name by, but when you decide upon one, let me know through a PM what you want the name to be, along with a link to the profile and I’ll edit it to the title thread/name as well as update the character on the active list.
When you’re PMing me, don’t forget that you need to address it to ‘admin’, otherwise I won’t be able to see it.
Now, as for new character sign-ups, we’re also making it so that you can sign up as Sith Knights and Masters, assuming there are certain parts of the bio (towards the end) which talk about the character joining the Sith and learning their ways until they were promoted, and not an instant join and promotion to Knight/Master as that would be unfair. But hopefully this will help bring the Sith back up to speed, and let you all have fun with finding the name you want for your Sith.
Also note that if I receive two of the same name, I will operate on a first come first serve basis.
Thank you all, hopefully there’ll be more announcements to come over the Christmas period.
~Jenno

Dear Members of SWU,
For a while it has been aparent that the RPM section has dropped in activity, and as such the staff has been trying to make a few changes that we all hope will, in the long run, bring life to the section. While this won’t affect you all in the manner of rp, it might be of help over time and encourage you to make a thread in the coming weeks.
The first change is the most important, as we heartily welcome our former Jedi Mod, Kellaishleya, to the rank of Roleplay Mentor. Jenno and I feel as if she’s the best choice for this position for many reasons, but most of all she is a great writer. Her fluency in writing is quite apparent, and her dedication to the Jedi section during her time over there makes her a clear choice alone. Not only is she proactive in the current plot, but still helps the staff quite a bit behind the scenes even now.
Next, on a slightly dimmer note, we have the removal of Hotel from the rank of RPM, seeing as real life seems to have caught up to him. During his time as RPM he was a great help in the section, and I’m sure everyone is as sad as I am to see him go. Still, real life comes first and we must move on.
So, if you feel like you could get some constructive criticism on your writing, or if you feel like you could just have some fun with one of the RPM, make sure to open a thread. If you wish to remain anonymous feel free to PM any of us. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, don’t hesitate to share those with Kellaishleya, Jazen, Silas, or any of the current staff.
Thank you for your time, and have a happy New Year, Silas

Hello there, oh alert and observant SWUvians! Glad to see you've stopped by. You're in for a treat this go around...
It is with great pleasure and not a small amount of joy that I provide to you this first announcement of the 2012 year. And what a happy one it is!
Today, I have the honor of presenting to you our newly elected member of the admin team! Though Jace is truly missed among us red shirts, Jenno and I believe that our newest comrade will serve faithfully. Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Sparrow!!!
Now, some of you might be thinking to yourself "but what about the Dark Jedi/Sith section!?"
In answer, 1. Breathe my dear SWUvians! Never fear, Sparrow has graciously agreed to continue modding that section until a replacement can be found. Which leads me to 2. We're still looking for people to add to the staff and NGTs! I know you can do it!! So give it a shot!
Again, be sure to congratulate Sparrow who's worked hard to make SWU such a great site! That's all I have for you now, my lovelies, but stay tuned for more announcements to come! This is shaping out to be an exciting year and I'd hate for you to miss out on all the action.
Love and Memories, Meira

Hello members of SWU,
As we’ve mentioned in the last few announcements, we’re looking for people to get involved with the application and staff process. I’m glad to announce that there are two NGT promotions in store. First of all is a returning member and former moderator looking to get back into the swing of things, so I would like you all to congratulate Iota on becoming an NGT.
And for a little while now another member has been actively producing some quality reviews to help out members with their applications and we feel he’s earned this promotion, welcome Cain to the ranks of the NGT.
Now, if you’ve been reviewing or looking to do so in order to get involved with the staff here at SWU, then don’t be put off by this announcement. There are some members that we’ve got our eyes on and will still be accepting of any others who are interested in the position.
So congratulations to these two members and I look forward to future announcements with more promotions.
Thank you,
~Jenno
