-SWU Guide-
Alright, this here is a step by step guide to getting yourself RPing on SWU as quickly as possible. It will, of course, be more helpful to those new to RPing -- but also to veterans who are unfamiliar with the layout. This guide will give you the basics on where to start your journey on SWU. I will be providing images for almost every step. As I stated, this is a guide that even a person who is new to the internet could figure out. So no excuses.
Note: Any underlined text is a link.
A. Where to Begin.
Many new members jump straight to making their character, but that's just going to make things harder for you. Like every other forum in the world, you need to start with the major threads before you even think about making a character. The Plot Thread, Galaxy Map, Rules and Forbidden Aspects.
The Plot Thus Far
Galaxy Map
The Rules
Forbidden Aspects
B. Posting Your Character App
Now that you have read the rules it is time to make your character. The first thing you need to decide is what type of character you want. SWU has five main character sections. They are as follows:
Civilian
Military
Fringe
Jedi
Sith/Dark Jedi
Civilian –
To be classified as a civilian one must have a clean record on all planetary systems, and be autonomous from all other organizations. These are the average day people in the galaxy that work to do the menial things that keep everything flowing smoothly. A civilian could be anything from a senator, to royalty, to even a common factory position. Civilians can be Force Sensitive but must be untrained or self trained in order to avoid being classed as a 'Grey Jedi' or 'Dark Jedi'. Force Sensitive Civilians can have no Force stat greater than a three because of this. .
Military –
These are the individuals throughout the galaxy who have chosen a path that will lead them into the thick of battle to serve their government. Be they for the Sith Empire, the Galactic Republic, or even the Mandalorians. Soldiers of all ranks may be placed here. Mandalorians have their own ranking structure, see their notes below for more information on making a Mandalorian.
Fringe –
Among these individuals you will find the hardened criminals that have escaped the world to become smugglers, crime lord, bounty hunters, thieves, or anything that will gain them a profit. However, it is not simply defined by that alone. You will also have Grey Jedi here. (On SWU all Force Users not aligned with the Jedi, the Sith, or classified as a Dark Jedi are considered ‘Grey Jedi’. This includes ex-Jedi and individuals who have been independently trained.)
Jedi –
The Jedi include all characters that were accepted as a Youngling before the age of 6 to become Jedi. All ranks of Jedi are included (Youngling, Padawan, Knight, Master, and High Council Member) in among these people.
Dark Jedi/Sith –
The darkest of people are included here, the ones that have dedicated their life to the Dark Side of the Force. Either independently as simply a Dark Jedi, which includes any Dark Side adept of any nature no matter if they have been trained by the Jedi, or the newly formed Sith Order. No contact with the Old Sith Order is allowed in character profiles, so exclude any mentions of ‘Darths’ or Holocrons from your bio. The Sith Order has only emerged within the last few years in character.
Once you have chosen what type of character you want, it's time to go to the section to which your character will belong. If you need help determining which section your character should be placed, feel free to ask anyone with a colored name.
Now that you have decided on one of the five sections, there are some very important threads which you need to read before you post your app.
1. Application Templates; Application Notes; The 'and SWU's
First of course is the Application Template:
Civilian Template
Military Application
Fringe Application
Jedi Application
Sith/Dark Jedi Application
2. The Application tip threads:
The Jedi and Sith/Dark Jedi have a Must Read thread. These are extremely important, for multiple reasons. They will help you fully understand each aspect of the character template. They provide highly useful tips for creating a character.
Believe me when I say; if you read these threads thoroughly, you will have eliminated at least 50% of the problems your app would have had. That means faster approval.
Jedi Must Read
Sith/Dark Jedi Must Read [coming soon]
3. The 'and SWU's
With the at times intricate and detailed plot line SWU has developed over the years, our lore can sometimes be confusing to new people. That's why there's these handy pages, filled with information on the three main story factions and how they fit into the site. These factions are the Jedi Order (Republic), the Sith Order (Empire) and the Mandalorians.
The Jedi and SWU
The Sith and SWU
The Mandalorians and SWU
4. Creating a thread in the Pending section
Now that you have read these threads, it's time to post your actual Application. Your application needs to be posted in the 'Pending' section. If you are unfamiliar where the 'New Thread' button is located, look to the top right of the board across from the section name.
You are at the Create a New thread screen you need to copy and paste the BBcode from the character app. Remember; if any sort of Force adept you'll be using that application, even if untrained. Otherwise the standard application is to be used.
Now you need to fill in all the details for your character. Once you have completed that, it's time to post your app. All you need to do is click the 'Post Message' button near the bottom.
Some Helpful Links
Force Powers List
A list of the Force powers which require special explanation in the bio and also a list of powers which are not allowed on SWU.
Wookiepedia
Quite possibly the best source for SW information on the internet. It is a great resource to refer to when making your character. A note of caution, just like wikipedia, information can be somewhat faulty. Remember no matter what Wookiepedia says, the site has the final say.
Name Generator
A useful thread if you are having trouble coming up with a name for your character.
