Name:
Davin Cortosis
Race:
Human
Age:
16
Height:
5'2
Weight:
117lbs
Appearance:
Short. Handsome. Fair skinned.
These are just some of the many adjectives used to describe Davin.
He is fairly short for is age. A physical feature in which caused some of the children his age to pick on him.
Some children may cave-in and curse their genes, and even their parents, for them being born with length deficiency, however, Davin was able to find strength where there was only pain. Sure he was small, but that only motivated him to work harder. Harder than his doubters, and harder than his friends.
Davin, while far from being a narcissist, is, in fact, quite fond of his looks. His light blonde hair glows within the sunlight, and shades within the dark. Because of the illuminative effects of his hair, his aqua pupils shine and glisten.
Davin's skin complexion is a virtually flawless equilibrium of tan and pale, which only accentuate his features further. His lips are slightly more full than normal, and when he smiles, his crisp white teeth, as well as his pink gums, show.
His choice of clothes are the custom made robes that all padawans receive. His robes fit him kind of snug, to the point in which Davin would use it as blanket for sleep. Beneath his robes is the body of a very slender boy. He doesn't possess abs of steel or pecs and buns that girls would die for, but he is more or less in the middle.
Personality:
Quick to flash a smile and give in to his emotions, but quicker to defend himself, and his friends.
Davin is a very social and funny boy. He is quite affable, and love talking with other people. He has had may quirky and light hearted exchanges wit his former master, but it was all in good fun. He has a very acute sense when it comes to emotions.
He could sense changes in emotions and is capable of empathy to the point of almost acutely feeling the amount of pain, hurt, and love someone else feels.
Though he may seem like a fun loving individual at first glance, Davin is really a tormented soul who longs for companionship. He has a tendency to become a slave to his emotions, and repeatedly crosses the line from compassion to passion.
As such he created the wall of kindness and witty remarks in order to hide deeper emotions that he is still trying to sort out himself. The facade he wears is extremely effective in stopping people from trying to further investigate his feelings.
Though Davin may lack much in lightsaber combat and telekinetics he is still confident in his abilities, as his drive to become greater than his competitors doesn't falter because of a few set-backs, which makes him an ideal padawan. But his lack of control over his emotions continually holds him back the most.
Birth place:
Tatooine
Faction:
Jedi
Rank:
Padawan
Bio:
Cortosis.
That is not a last name of a person generally.
This is because Davin's family was sold into slavery from Nar Shaddaa to Tatooine due to heavy debts. They owed a Hutt thousands upon thousands of credits in cortosis ores, as his family worked for the hutt and lost the ores to pirates on their way back to Nar Shaddaa. Since they couldn't pay the Hutt the extensive debt they were sold into slavery and sent to Tattoine to work off their debt, which they say would take several generations.
Davin's family lost all of their possessions after being shipped to Tatooine. As well as losing their last name, which was changed to Cortosis. A symbol to the family which reminds them why they are enslaved and motivates them to work harder to earn back their name.
Their master was a human by the name of Tarkin. He was a profitable slave trader and was said to have owned 50 slaves on 50 worlds, though many considered it to be just a rumor.
Though enslaved, Davin's family made the most out of their situation. His mother was a superbly strong hearted woman, as well as his father, who was a moisture farmer. When Davin's mother found out she was pregnant with him, she was very reluctant to birth a child into a world of poverty, but with convincing from her husband, decided to go through with it.
Davin was said to have been a helpful and wonderful boy who had a strong bond with his mother. To the point to when a Jedi wanted to take him away for training due to his unusual force sensitivity, he cried all the way to the Coruscant temple.
However, Davin would soon forget all of it. Only blurry images of sand, a woman, and a man would haunt him.
As a youngling Davin was friendly, nice, and caring. He was often seen with a smile, and he tried to be as helpful as he could, taking the same work ethic he gained as a brief slave on Tatooine. However, due to his scrawny physical build, his early lightsaber training was wrought with failure. He was near the bottom of his class, and was barely able to grasp some of the most basic concepts of lightsaber combat.
Even in his telekinetics, Davin was a slouch. He couldn't even lift up some of the objects his fellow peers were able to. And when he did lift it, his stamina wouldn't allow him to hold it in the air for long. However, there was a silver lining.
Davin was, unlike most of his peers, able to grasp on the concepts of Force empathy, and shield his emotions so that many of his friends could barely notice his presence. But throughout Davin's young life, there was one big obstacle.
Jaiden.
He was a bully, nothing more, nothing less. A talented bully, but a bully none the less. He excelled at everything. He was able to lift an object the highest, throw it the farthest, and handle a training saber the best. But for some reason or another, he took a liking to Davin, a liking to tease him, and sometimes even beat him. Telling someone would had been the wise thing to do, but tattle telling was generally looked down upon. Davin knew that if he told on Jaiden, most of his friends and peers would despise him, mock him. No, Davin felt that he needed to handle Jaiden himself.
When the annual Initiate trials came underway, Davin saw it as an opportunity to confront Jaiden and beat him during the trials. Though Davin wished it to happen in that manner, it didn't.
Jaiden excelled in every area of the trials. From the recitation of the Jedi mantra to lightsaber construction. Davin however, nearly failed at reciting the Jedi code, guessing his way through the last stanza, as well as lightsaber construction. He was aware of all the parts, but couldn't seem to put them together. Again, only by dumb luck was he able to pass his test.
The final part of the Initiate trials was the Apprentice Tournament. Here, young hopefuls would battle in lightsaber combat in hopes of being selected by a master. Even if a hopeful lost a duel, if they showed enough promise then they were virtually guaranteed a master. Davin decided that if he just tried his best, then maybe a master would like him enough to select him for training.
Then Davin learned he was pitted against Jaiden.
He didn't know how he could defeat Jaiden, but he did know one thing.
He couldn't give up.
The match started with Jaiden pressing the attack. Davin, who was never any real good in lightsaber combat, did all he could to hold it steady. Attack after attack pushed Davin further and further back, until one mighty blow sent him to the ground, lightsaber in hand.
Some thought the match had come to an end, but it was far from.
For some reason or another, determination invigorated Davin. He didn't want to lose, despite the odds against him. But he felt one powerful emotion. One the Jedi cautioned against. One he felt the strongest.
Anger.
Davin suddenly jumped to his feet, lightsaber in hand. He immediately went on the offensive, attacking Jaiden with everything he had and then some. Though Jaiden was good offensively, he never quite got the hang of defensive combat, and as such, was taken aback by Davin's ferocious onslaught. The strikes Davin missed with were just as powerful as the strikes that connected on Jaiden's blade, and eventually, he was able to disarm Jaiden. Though it didn't stop there.
Davin felt triumphant. He envisioned himself stabbing Jaiden, causing him to suffer from minor, stinging burns. Perhaps he could make Jaiden cry, cry like Davin did himself while being repeatedly bullied. Delighted by the spectacle, he was about to deliver a punishing blow to an unarmed Jaiden. But just before he was about to strike, he stopped himself. He remembered his training, his teachings. Jedi never strike an unarmed opponent. He tossed his training saber to the side and started crying, expressing regret for letting his emotions get the better of him.
After the trials, Jaiden was selected by a master to be his apprentice. Many believed his loss only to be a fluke from a padawan showing signs of the darkside. Only one master who was present at the duel decided to take Davin under his wing at the tender age of ten.
It was Pi-Guan-Yuan.
A Selkath Jedi Counsular who specialized in the force, and mysterious and theories surrounding it. He was an avid proponent of the Living Force, but still understood and accepted the Unifying Force. Considered a maverick by many of his contemporaries, he built a reputation for defying the Council, as well as instructing others to follow their own path and that the Jedi way isn't the end all be all, as well as the way of the Sith.
It was obvious to Pi-Guan that the council would be hesitant to allow Davin to be tutored. He could sense it, even before he spoke with them. But as he talked to them in person, their fears were confirmed. They had all heard of his duel with Jaiden, how he gave in to his anger, but Pi-Guan contested that Davin did stop himself, and believed with proper training he could control his emotions and could be used as an asset rather than a hindrance. The council, after much convincing and deliberation, reluctantly accepted Davin to be Pi-Guan's apprentice.
Davin never fully got over what he had done, and he constantly felt the weight of his emotions on his shoulders. He fell into a deep depression, and became much more withdrawn and reserved, to the point to where his master had a hard time discerning his student from the backdrop. The fact Davin was doing it subconsciously puzzled Pi-Guan, but concluded once Davin's training began he would return to his usual self.
The first part of Pi-Guan's training for his apprentice was simple. Battle a training droid. Pi-Guan wanted to see if Davin could replicate what he did to Jaiden to the droid. The first fight ended with Davin losing to the training droid badly, being disarmed after a lengthy duel. Pi-Guan decided to increase the level of the training droid to padawan level instead of youngling level. When Davin fought the droid again, he became fearful of his life. That fear turned into anger, as he was fed up with being pushed around by the droid, and struck it down with a powerful strike that drained almost all of his energy.
Pi-Guan was pleased to have uncover the root of Davin's strength and explained to Davin what he thought. He told Davin that he believed that Davin could utilize his hatred and anguish as a weapon for the light, and told him that he shouldn't be afraid of using his emotions, but he should be afraid of submitting to them.
As such, much of Davin's early training consisted of lightsaber combat. Pi-Guan, though a Consular, was still considered a great lightsaber duelist by many of his contemporaries. He taught Davin the finer points of Shii-Cho. He fixed Davin's posture, form, footwork, and balance. He helped Davin learn how to defend himself against a physically stronger opponent. He also taught him when to parry an attack, and when to block it.
He also tutored Davin on the basics of Djem So, the perfect form for him to channel his inner anger to an effective weapon. However, he cautioned his padawan from using it for an extended period of time as he might indeed lose himself in the process.
Though Davin still isn't the best lightsaber duelist for a padawan, he is far better than he was before his apprenticeship.
Next up in Davin's training was to test his connection with the force. Pi-Guan wanted to see if Davin was ready to construct his own lightsaber. After he saw Davin struggling to levitate a book for excess amounts of time, it proved to Pi-Guan that Davin wasn't quite yet ready, and gave his apprentice a green lightsaber temporarily until Davin would construct his own.
However, the force feats that did continually impress Pi-Guan was Davin's telepathy. He was able to correctly identify Pi-Guan's emotional state and could discern his master while in the presence of several other Jedi while trying to guise himself. Of course, the guise he put up wasn't his best, but it was a strong indicator of where Davin's talent lied. As such, Pi-Guan taught Davin how they could, somewhat, effectively communicate with each other exclusively with telepathy. Though Pi-Guan could hold entire conversations, Davin could only respond with simple words or phrases such as "Yes" "No" "Yes, Master" "I will get on it" and "Are you sure about that". Pi-Guan also taught Davin how to shield his brain from sending stray thoughts for others pick up on. However a skilled force user could easily past through Davin's amateur guise.
The council was very pleased with Davin's progress. Because of his stark improvement he and Pi-Guan were allowed to go on their first mission.
It was a simple mission, negotiate a treaty between a Worker's Union and a Congressional Committee in a small town called Garland on Alderaan. Apparently, the Worker's Union went on strike due to insufficient payment while the Congressional Committee already gave the Workers a pay raise and said another one would harm the budget.
Pi-Guan and Davin landed on Alderaan within a standard day, and immediately got on their mission. They spoke with the Worker's Union's leader, a man named Talkin, who seemed bent on staying on strike until his demands were met. The Congressional Committee wasn't as stubborn, but said a pay raise was out of the question. They said that they would be willing to compromise anything but a pay raise.
Talkin, in the mean time, convinced other Civil Unions to demand higher wages. Within a matter of weeks, Talkin was able to convince over 20% of Garland's workers to go on strike. Pi-Guan sensed Talkin couldn't be an ordinary leader and that only a force-sensitive could be able to sway so many so quickly. When Pi-Guan and Davin confronted Talkin, they found out that he was a former Jedi apprentice who was sent to the Agri-Corps due to not receiving a master upon his 13th birthday.
He was already bitter because of it, and eventually he became disillusioned with the Jedi and decided to destroy it from the inside. Davin tried to negotiate with Talkin first, as he truly sympathized with him since Davin himself could have easily been in his shoes. However, Talkin didn't want to talk, and he pulled out a blaster and attempted to shoot Davin in the chest. Pi-Guan redirected the blaster bolt and it struck the ground harmlessly. Pi-Guan then disarmed Talkin as Davin alerted the authorities. They showed up within a a few hours and arrested Talkin. Later, Pi-Guan revealed to Davin that Talkin was a potential candidate to be his apprentice but he was sent away. What upset Pi-Guan the most was that Talkin wasn't given a chance, and Pi-Guan confessed to Davin that he never truly agreed with the Jedi way in terms of sending apprentices away to agri-corps.
After clearing everything up with the Worker's Union and the other Unions on strike, Pi-Guan and Davin returned to tell the Council of their successful mission and Talkin's foiled plot.
The next day, Pi-Guan was gone.
Nobody knew why, but Davin knew. He could sense his master's thoughts as he stood before the Council. He embarked on a journey to convert all Dark or Lost Jedi to the light, but not necessarily to the Jedi.
Pi-Guan left feeling confident that he had taught Davin everything he needed to know to become a great padawan. As long as Davin remembered his teachings, and stayed true to himself.
Even though Pi-Guan never said goodbye, Davin still understood his master's resolve couldn't be broken, and as such, Davin was left alone, again. But he wouldn't weep, he wouldn't submit to his emotions, he would take everything Pi-Guan taught him and move on with his life, hoping that he could see him again someday.

"Master, can you explain the first line in the Jedi Code to me?" Davin asked his master as he sat in a meditative trance across from his student, who was also sitting down.
"There is no emotion, there is peace." Pi-Guan recited as he took a deep breath, mentally breaking down the phrase into it's simplest and most basic form for his apprentice to understand.
"When there is no emotion, there is no pain. No hate, no regret, nothing." Pi-Guan said, as if he already had answer ready for his apprentice.
"But that also means there is no love," Davin countered.
"Ah, but what can become of love? Many of men have let their affection for another control them. They became what they hated most in the name of love. The lives of many mean nothing to them over the lives of their loved one." Pi-Guan said.
Davin took in the wisdom of his master, and contemplated his words. What Pi-Guan also explained to Davin was why the Jedi don't love.
However, Davin wasn't done with his argument.
"But master, if there is no emotion, then there must be torment. If someone is displaying no emotion, or at least shielding their emotions, that means that under the surface they are tormented souls who need healing." Davin said.
Pi-Guan opened his eyes, as he had finished his meditation for the day. His piercing gaze was enough to make any man feel uncomfortable, and Davin was no exception.
"It is easy to read underlying emotions. To root out intentions and bring them to light. However, the Jedi code doesn't tell you not to feel, but rather warns you of the dangers of your emotions." Pi-Guan said as he stood up, Davin soon followed sue.
"Come Davin, it's time we do a little more lightsaber training," Pi-Guan said.
