Early classes for the young-lings had been one of the major staples of the Temple. Early classes, mid day trainings and afternoon testings often found many a young-ling to be to busy for extra classes but Mal Konti had started just a few months back classes on healing which left his days clear for other work. This day though would be a changing day. Word got round that a young-ling had a hand in helping with the healing of a fellow student after a mishap with a saber training drill.
This student a togurta male had helped block the nerve response of a combatant who had snapped their arm in a duel. Not many these days have their been of the young-lings who had a gift in the healing arts. So Mal had to check all information and rumors coming and going in the temple. Lugging a healers puzzle he made his way to a young-ling conference room where the young-ling was to be.
The healers puzzle was a testing device to see how focused one was and sensitive their minds were to the force. Various sized balls of five different elements and force affinity were scattered with in the hidden block. Each ball whether metal, wooden or stone was lost with in the box. Each had their own signature in the force from strong in the light side to immersed in the darkness. The goal is to find and place each of the five balls into their proper signature zones. Only two could be felt by most untrained young-lings only the more advance could feel the others. One of the balls would be placed with in a place with in the box that had no signature, a void with in the force, both ball and placement zone. So only the ones who were the most aware of the blank spots would realize this and have to manually turn the box to get it right.
Upon entering Mal saw the young-ling togruta male waiting calmly for this unique test to begin.
Well are you the young one who help out with the broken arm? I am Mal Konti and am glad to see one such as yourself displaying such effort to your fellow students.
This is the test you have looked over the basic guide lines for the test yes?
A great hutt smile broke out upon his large face as he settled the box on a smallish table between the two of them and settled himself in for the test.

Brazi Nevok sat outside the place where had been told to meet the Jedi Master who had taken an interest in him as of late. A part of him was excited about being summoned by a Master, excited at the prospect of being taken as someone’s padawan. At the same time, he was scared that he might have overstepped his bounds. Younglings were only trainees, not fully trained Jedi. They were always reminded that they did not know enough about the Force to use it well. He hadn’t known that he was interfering, but his lightsaber instructor had recognized what Brazi had done immediately.
All Brazi remembered was that his clanmate Suzi had been hurt during lightsaber sparring. They were only meant to disarm each other, not hurt each other, but lightsabers were dangerous weapons as his instructor always reminded the clan. Brazi had rushed in to help, and he just knew what needed to be done. The nerve endings had been there, ready for him to touch and to manipulate. The Force moved through him, as he had been instructed to do, and the nerve endings were blocked. The Masters had exclaimed at his skill. Brazi had been amazed at the sheer luck of it all. Suzi had just been glad that the pain had been gone.
However, now, Brazi was facing a test that he was not sure he could manage. All thoughts of the test fled Brazi’s mind when he saw the Master. He tried his hardest not to appear surprised by the Master’s appearance, but it was not often that a young Togruta met a Hutt. He was just caught unaware. Of course, if he was a Jedi, he would see more of the Hutts, so he had better get used to it.
I have studied the test, Master Mal. I can only hope to do my best.
Five balls, each resonating with the Force, and Brazi only needed to sort them into holes with the same resonance. Brazi cleared his mind and sought out the Force, just like he had been trained. The Force was living and connected to him. He found it there waiting for him. With his mind, he reached out into the box, and he was surprised at what he found. There was darkness in the box. Brazi had never touched the dark side as of yet.
Master, there is darkness in this box.
Brazi was looking for reassurance that he would not be tainted by touching these balls with his mind.

Mal nodded at the fact that Brazi, the young-ling, had stopped when he noticed the darkness. Mal could see that the young want a word on the darkness many had thought that touching dark foirce object would taint themselves. Mal knew though it was what you did with the darkness is whether it was for the lightside or the darkside.
It is good that you ask about the darkness. The effect of the darkness on a being is only related to what they do with it. Each living being has darkness and light in constat dueling with each other. As you grow you will be faced with many events and places that are filled with both light and darkness. How will you face them? With emotional actions or with knowledge of what happens when the darkness touch a mind set and instructed in the light sided works of the force?
If it pains you to touch the darkness leave it for the last. But remember the longer you let darkness hold you from making the right choises then the stronger it's power over you it will have.
Waving his hand for the young-ling to chose and continue Mal knew that in the force this was a turning point ever so small it was a point in this young-ling life to set his mind to what will be his over all goals in the force.

Brazi listened as his instructed taught him concerning the light side and dark side of the force. That was not how Brazi had heard it, but most of his instruction on the different sides of the Force had come from the different younglings in his clan. The dark side was not a topic for youngling instruction, especially when the younglings were barely asked to learn the Jedi Code. The two topics were not so easily intertwined.
Taking what the Master said seriously, Brazi determinedly reach out with the Force. He found the darkness that radiate from the ball. He wasn’t sure which of the five it was, meaning what material made up the ball, but he knew one thing: he would not let darkness have power over him. With his mind, Brazi grabbed hold of the ball and picked it up. He searched with his mind to find the opening that resonated with the same energy in the ball. Brazi found it quickly, having become familiar with the darkness since picking up the ball. Still, that familiarity did not keep his stomach from lurching until the ball found its home. When that was done, Brazi heaved a small sigh of relief.
When Brazi continued to search for the next balls, he found three Force signatures rather quickly, which confused him because he knew that there should be for. The two light-side balls Brazi made quick work of, sorting them with ease. He himself resonated with the Force in these balls, enjoying handling them as much as he could. However, the puzzle of the fifth ball eluded him still. Brazi wasn’t sure what exactly he was missing. While sorting the last ball that he sensed, Brazi began to puzzle out the test. Each of the balls had had a different affinity to the Force. The intensity of light and dark had varied as well. It was as if the balls made a spectrum, and that meant the only thing that was missing was the ball between a light affinity for light and a light affinity for dark.
What lie between these two balls, Brazi barely recalled from a Sense lesson he had received about a year ago. A void in the Force did exist, so Brazi would not be able to move this ball with his mind. Sensing the different placement zones, Brazi could not find the fifth zone as well, which validated his suspicions. Using his mind to keep the other balls in place, Brazi picked up the box and shook it, hearing the remaining ball rattle inside. Most everything had a resonance with the Force, but there was a section of the box that did not. It was that section that Brazi decided would hold his final ball, and he maneuvered the ball so that it would fall into place. It wasn’t easy, and he lost concentration so that the darkest ball was dislodged from its placement zone. Still, the empty ball found its zone eventually.
Glad to be close to finishing the test and unsure of how much time had passed during his intense meditation and concentration, Brazi felt for the darkest ball, remembering the feel of the darkness as he picked it up. It was not what a man touched but what he did that made him dark, Brazi reminded himself as he moved the ball again. That did not change the fact that Brazi was relieved when he had firmly replaced the ball.
It is done, Master Mal.
Brazi looked into the face of the Hutt Jedi, unsure what he was reading from those alien features. The sun outside showed that much time had passed during the test. Brazi hadn’t been sure how quickly he had found the balls, but he guessed it must have been quite some time of concentration to feel each one. That was normal for him, as it was normal that he would be unaware of the passage of time while concentrating. Now, he would wait for the Master’s review and whatever that review brought him.

Mal had been watching the young jedi. Time had crawled by as he too felt out the movements in the force. What Mal liked was what this young one did each time he encounted a ball. Thinking through and taking his time searching for the solution.
Finally Mal heard and felt the young togruta shake the box. This one had thought through the void blockage which is a great step for any young-ling.
You have done well. Your begining test is over. What a healer first looks for is some thing unjedi. Yes I know how it sounds. We are healers first then jedi. That is how you must see life and the force as both a tool and guide. Yet it is by your eye and mind that you heal. No saber, no fancy words of direction and no force power will give you the upper hand when it comes to healing, true healing.
Knowledge and experiance in medicine is your guide first the force is your internal eye into what no machine can show you. It will also be your hand and saber where nothing can reach. So showing focus and forsight first is a great step.
Though weak you are on the right path no matter where else you go from here. Any master jedi must want to first heal the verse so that all may live. Again are you ready to learn?
Mal sighed once again hoping that what just said was not over this one's head.

Brazi sat and waited for the Jedi to comment on his work. To say that he was nervous would not begin to describe the emotions running through him. He was nervous, yes, but he was also excited. He was sad but also happy. A mixture of emotions ran through the young lad as he sat there staring at the box whose puzzle he had just finished. He had beaten the test, or so he thought.
Master Mal's words, when spoken, reassured Brazi and sent his emotions out of their tumultuous equilibrium and into a state of ecstasy. He had done well according to the Jedi. He had done well. That was the thought on which Brazi decided to dwell. He, of course, listened to what Master Mal had to say as the Jedi Master talked about healing. Had Brazi wanted to be a healer? He wasn't necessarily sure, but still, his skills landed in this area. It was as if the Force wanted for Brazi to continue down this path. Could he find someone to teach him the ways of the saber? That was something he would have to discuss with Master Mal if the Hutt would take him as a Padawan.
A padawan.
Brazi hadn't let himself ponder whether or not he would be chosen just for fear of having his dreams crushed. Instead, he would devote himself to his studies, hoping beyond hope that his skills would allow for his being chosen. Now, as he stood at the gate of this new learning adventure, Brazi only had to step through. It was open to him. He had been chosen, and he had the right to accept.
I am ready, Master, ready to expand my knowledge and my skill.
Staring into the eyes of the Hutt Jedi, Brazi wondered if he had made the right choice, but now that the words had been spoken, there was no turning back.

Mal could almost feel the excitment from him as he spoke. It was good to see ones so excited to learn.
Well then my Padawan you will first need a tour of the labs and what your second field of battle will be for a while. Come with me and bring your test, that will be your touch stone till your next testing.
Mal moved his massive body to the doors with effortless ease. Looking back he smiled and moved down the halls toward the labs. Getting nearly there Mal slowed as he came to some construction upon a older young-ling training room which seem to have seen better days. One of the worker droids came up to him and gave him a plasty film which had various pictures of the inside of the room. Mal looked longingly into the room then moved on. Another droid came out at the same time as asked Mal what to do with the toys. He did not turn for he could feel them for they were soaked within the force, a storm of light and darkness twisted into one. Mal simply said.....
Destroy it all not one item is to be recycled and call for me whence that his done and will re check the room it must be purified of the taint of his insanity if it is to be reused for the young-lings.
With out another word Mal moved on to the lower labs where he sat for a bit and looked over the pictures capture that day. Sighing he looked back up the the togruta to explain what they passed by.
Success in healing can have it's troubles too. Each case you will need to deside whether it is good to heal or not. many thing heal on their own other can not be healed. If you try to force a healing on some thing that can no long be healed then you too will have to face what happens. That was a room for a being which has escaped and is lost for the moment on Coruscant. A Jedi and broken of spirit and mind he was. I should have left him where he was but pity for this being who I though was a lost jedi. He was not lost just a being living what was the last of his short life is blissfull peace. Others are looking for him and will help who they best can, but I can no long help him. Healing him has broken that peace and harmed what calm life he would otherwise would have. My lack of knowledge is what brought that about this is why I stressed focus and knowledge to you. To get you ready for what the force will have you do saber are not what I'm best at but none have a better focus than me. I will give you another view to seeing things as well maybe that will give you a better chance to judge correctly the event that lay before you. Now lets get to that tour.

Brazi nodded, picked up the test he had just completed, and followed his Master out of the room where he had been tested. He was a Padawan, selected to be trained in the ways of the Jedi. He wouldn't have to stop training and become a member of the Corps. He would build a lightsaber. He would travel the galaxy in the name of the Jedi Order. He would have a Padawan of his own. There was hope for his training under the Hutt.
The pair moved through the Temple, and Brazi followed where he was led. The two walked by a room that Brazi had heard rumors about. He tried his best not to look in the room, but his curiosity got the best of him. He couldn't see much, but what he did see scared him. He could also feel light and darkness at battle within the room. Master Mal spoke with a couple of droids, and Brazi listened. Taint. Insanity. Those were the words he caught, and he fought the child-like fear growing in him. A Padawan was not a child, not any longer, and he would do his best to act that way.
Eventually the two arrived at the labs, and Brazi listened as the Jedi explained the situation they had just passed. Brazi thought he understood what the Hutt was saying, but he wasn't sure that the Jedi understood Basic as well as he would have liked. Still, Brazi sought for the meaning in his words. Discernment is the key, Brazi whispered to himself as Master Mal turned to begin the tour of the labs. Excitement coursed through the young Togruta. He was meeting his new classroom where he would learn the mysteries of the Force.

Mal slide himself over to a lab dor placed his hutt hand on a access pad. Two seconds later it beeped and slide open. The smell of purified air and steralizer fluid was the first oders to come the the senses when one entered the labs. Moving past lab stations which held enclosed test tubes of various liquids and chemicals, Mal moved them toward the viewing section of the healers quarters. In a lower room was a group of healers standing around a body working busyly. Monitors showed the heart rates and blood pressures and brain acitivity. These Healer were working on replacing the whole left arm of a Jedi knight. A hover droid balanced it's self near the Jedi's left arm as the healers worked. It cleaned up any fluid that was near seen and helped with the nerve connections.Holding them in place as the healers attached the cybernetic connectors.
Since the war many a Jedi has come back injured or near death. So we Healers will soon be deployed on to the most hazardous battle zones to be field medics so that we might not have to remove their arm with this.... machinary. Remember young one each time you loose a part of yourself the less for you will be able to draw upon. It hinders ones growth in the force as well.
Moving on he enters the young-ling section of the Healer's quarters. Upon entering the young-ling with the name of Suzi was there with their arm in a tank of Kolto fluid. Another healer was using the healing fluid to knit the finer fractures with the nearly healed arm.
And I think you may know this one. You and me my padawan will be tending to the young-lings health till the movement to the new Healing labs. Of which I'm looking forward too. OH and come up here and sense out what is going on here with the fine knitting of the bone. Mal shifted to one side letting Brazi get a better look and closer feel to what was going on.
