Name: Galak Avara
Race: Human (mixed heritage)
Age: 51 Standard Years
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 194 lbs.
Appearance: On the shorter side of average human males, age has taken it's toll on Galak, but he relies on the Force and his own physical training to remain in the best shape he can. Whest's hair, now graying, has begun to recede, but his body remains strong and his mind sharp. Wrinkles have begun to appear on his forehead. Galak is usually found in his customary Jedi robes, commonly with a camouflaged tunic underneath.
Personality: Bold and disciplined, Galak has devoted himself to the principles of the Force and strives to maintain them daily. Galak's opinions are often voiced; he is never afraid to debate or discuss friendlily with a peer. Arrogance has been a problem that has plagued him in the past but, with careful meditation, he has come to control and divert the strong emotion. Galak is a compassionate and caring man, and has taken a liking to teaching the younglings over the years.
Birth place: Coruscant
Faction: Jedi Order
Rank: Jedi Master - Sentinel / High Council Member
Bio: Galak was born on Coruscant to two loving parents, happily married and living in a middle class area of Coruscant. His father, Gerah Avara, was a successful stock broker, and held his own wealthy firm. Gerah, for the first few years of his life, grew up as a relatively normal child.
Around the age of 2 his parents, especially his mother, noticed Galak's enhanced reflexes. In just his daily playing and toddling his perceptiveness and speed were noticeable enough for his parents to see. His mother, curious, inquired to one of her friends whose son had turned out to be Force sensitive and taken for Jedi training. The friend told her it couldn't hurt to inform the Order, so a meeting was set up for Galak to be tested by a Jedi Knight.
Within the week a Jedi Master appeared on their doorstep. Methodically he tested Galak with different tasks and interviewed his parents. Without another word the Master was off with only a kind word and a farewell. The parents wondered of the results of the test, but went on normally for the next week. They received a formal request on that Saturday that Galak had been chosen for Jedi training.
Excited but sad at the same time the parents willing gave their son up. Galak was whisked away to the Coruscant temple, where he was immersed in the ways of the Order. Avara, still at a relatively young age, has no recollection of his parents to this day.
Galak's life as a youngling was fairly uneventful. He got on well enough with their training of Shii-Cho techniques and showed a specific aptitude for communing with the Force. Galak was sociable enough to make friends among his peers, and still keeps in contact with a few. His masters were respected by the youngling, and when he reached the ripe age of 11 he excelled in his duels and demonstrations for the selection by a master.
Approached by a respectable Corellian Jedi Knight after one particularly successful practice duel he took Galak on as an apprentice, and the two began training immediately. The new information was absorbed quickly by Galak, and he accommodated well to the changed lifestyle of being a padawan. His ultimate dream of being a Jedi Knight of the Republic was one step closer to his grasp.
Galak's life as a padawan was an interesting one indeed, and he performed to the best of his abilities. He adapted to missions and other duties of being a disciplined padawan. While testing and training his master outlined the lightsaber form of Niman for him, and Galak took it and ran. He enjoyed the creativity he could express along with the restrained power and grace. What seemed like a perfect fit for the padawan grew on him, and when he reached the age of 16 he traveled to Illum with his master for the construction of his lightsaber.
Bearing in mind the tenets of Niman Galak constructed his saber with simpleness in mind, adding a special touch. The hilt was relatively normally, with hand grooves to one side for ease of grip. The only omission was that of an activator switch. Installed inside the hilt he placed a activator that could only be ignited with a small surge of the Force. For safety and as a personal preference this proved a handy tool as the years went by, and the lightsaber he constructed over 40 years ago still serves him well today.
The bond developed between Galak and his master was a strong one. Avara was the Corellian's first apprentice, but Jay couldn't have asked for a better mentor and father figure. The nurturing of their relationship occurred over a number of years, and only strengthened when Galak passed from the rank of Padawan to Jedi Knight at the age of 22. The trials were passed with relative ease by Galak. His Trial of Skill pitted him in a stamina contest against a Sith simulacrum still at this time unknown to Avara. Galak's control over the Niman form proved valuable, and he was able to adopt a defensive stance and hold off the powerful might of the warrior he faced. Galak's Trial of Courage had been completed in advance on the Outer Rim planet of Borleias. A particularly nasty civil war had broken out, and Galak, in the middle of the conflict, had proven a valuable asset as a negotiator and warrior in combat. The Trial of the Flesh was the most challenging for Avara, but he powered through, by the Force alone. A wound inflicted on him in a specialized mission devised by the Order was a trying time for the padawan. His leg was gashed down the side, which left a scar. He never chose to totally remove the scar itself, but did have it fully repaired. Finally, the Trial of the Spirit, facing the mirror, challenged Galak's true nature. Days of meditation were spent of self examination, and at the end of his trials Galak felt the strongest in the Force and in his own personality up to date in his life.
Now as a independent member of the Order he had options. Choosing the path of Guardian Galak placed his focus on the lightsaber and acts of defense and, if necessary, offense. His first act out of his apprenticeship was the mastering of Shii-Chp; hours of practice and with the help and guidance of his former master Avara had the mastery of the most basic form of the Order under his belt.
After his studies of the lightsaber and meditation on the Force had been completed Galak began taking missions of his own. He concentrated on war torn planets, knowing his talents would be best served as a mediator and warrior. The adventures that lay before him varied from planet to planet, and along the way Galak gained experience on the galaxy itself; his view was slightly darkened but continued reflection and meditation on the Force brought him out a stronger Jedi than before.
Galak had promised himself he would take a padawan at some point. It was not until he turned 29, though, that he finally felt drawn to taking his apprentice. Letting the Force be his guide Galak, while spectating on some of the younglings in their demonstrations, felt the Force take hold and lead him to one of his future friends, students, and brother. A young Kiffar by the name of Utkarsh caught his eye, and Galak approached the fiery student after the duels had been completed.
The two hit it off, and they were master and padawan soon after. Galak endeavoured to instill in Utkarsh all of the values his master had drilled into him, while also acting as a confidant and mentor to the young man. Watching the young Jedi grow and mature was one of the proudest moments of Galak's careers, and one he holds dearly in his memories. Utkarsh's tendencies led towards Niman like Galak all those years ago, and together they both learned their way through the Form, which eventually lead to the padawan's rudimentary understanding and the master's mastery of the Diplomat's Form. The bond that was created between the two would hold strong for years to come.
Utkarsh graduated proudly as a Jedi Knight of the Republic, and they passed from a father son relationship to brother - brother. The two still remain in touch. Now at the age of 40 Galak chose to remain apprentice less, at least for the time being. His experience warranted his undertaking of harder missions, and his exploits were eventually awarded with a promotion to the rank of Jedi Master. Now a dignified and disciplined member of the Order Galak turned his focus from the ways of the saber and combat to the Force and it's properties. Whest would meditate for hours on end on the Force itself, his thoughts slowing and his mind at rest. Galak also delved into writings and ancient text to further his book knowledge in general, which would prove valuable in the resolution of conflicts and such when he returned to active duty to perform missions and such.
At the advancing age of 44, and after extensive studies into the ways of the Force Galak took on a task different from all other he had attempted; teaching. He received a posting as the Force philosophy class teacher to a group of younglings in the temple, and, to his surprise, he enjoyed the post immensely. The added time of 'leisure' allowed him to remain up to date with his studies and keep up to date with his prowess with the lightsaber. The younglings themselves offered interesting aspects into life and the Force, and the experience was a definite plus in Galak's book.
While educating the younglings Galak sought after the increase of his Body and Force Sense abilities. The move he mainly focused on was Force Valor, projecting hope and courage in the hearts of his comrades. With the help of Jedi gone before him and of his own delving into the Force Galak feels that Body and Sense are his most powerful aspects in the nature of the Force.
Galak remained at the post of educator for two years; the benefits of teaching a philosophy class was that his outlook in general brightened. Knowing the true nature of the Force was comforting and freeing, and Galak's want to serve was increased ten fold. He was sad to abandon the job of teaching the young but was glad to be able to hone his skills not only against fellow Jedi and training dummies but also on the missions assigned to him.
Back to active duty again, Galak performed dozens of successful operations, also proving his worth as a decent field commander for Republic forces and advisor to members of the fleet and ground forces. His lightsaber became feared in the halls of the temple as a formidable foe, and he humbly went on with life as he felt all true Jedi should. Another act, one Galak had long sought after, was the mastery of more potent Force maneuvers. After a small encounter on Ord Mantell had caused him to unleash the power that was a light side Force lightning, Galak took the ability to the Council. After a word of caution Avara decided to pursue the study of the ability, for it's power could be honed into something that could be helpful for generations to come. Along with the lightning ability Galak also understood the importance of a non violent method of incapacitation. Force Stun was an appealing move for it's non lethal capabilities. Avara spent much time practicing and refining the abilities, and eventually added them to his already extensive toolbox of Force powers.
The discipline and piousness of Galak did not go unnoticed. For many years now Avara had proven his worth as a valuable member of the Order, and his acceptance into the Old Guard boded well for his future in the order. Galak joined a fellowship of senior Masters, and the recreation and relationships he developed with some of his peers only helped his reputation. Galak continued on with life as he thought the Force dictated, which led him to the mastery of another lightsaber form, this time Soresu.
The onset of blaster weapons proved that the defensive postures and techniques would prove valuable for a rounded master like Galak, so he set aside time each day to devote time to the form. His events, mostly successful, turned out for the best, and Soresu, his third form, came easier than any other.
Proud of his accomplishments and humble in the force at the age of 51 Galak was asked to join the High Council of the Jedi Order. A new comer to the world of Jedi politics but willing to learn and serve Galak gladly took up the position and looks to bring his insight and knowledge to the Republic and the Order.

Galak surveyed the field, taking in the approaching enemy and going over the plan in his head. It was simple, really; hold off the mercenaries until the Republic arrived. Simple in theory, anyways.
Galak's hand gripped his lightsaber, keeping a firm grip on the weapon. He knew the rest of the forces stood ready to dig in for a long fight but Whest hoped that the casualties of both sides would be low. The compromise proposed by Galak had failed, miserably. The experienced Jedi had had plans fail in the past, but never to the degree that serious bloodshed was a reaction.
"Closing to within blaster range," called a gruff voice over the parapet of the stone walls. Galak nodded to the warriors surrounding him. Reaching out with the Force Avara could feel the empty hate inside the mercenaries; give them a show of force and they would retreat. Hired hands were easily scared.
Galak extended his aura of peace around himself, using a ability trained specifically for times such as these. Force Valor, instilled inside the hearts of the soldiers surrounding him, would lead them to battle.
He hoped.
Galak concentrated the Force, activating his icy blue lightsaber. The sword sprung to life in his hand, and he assumed a Soresu ready stance. He brought his blade ready to deflect blaster bolts, but kept his Niman training ready if a melee battle came into play.
It started quickly. Shots were exchanged preliminarily on both sides until red dots covered the landscape. Galak concentrated on batting stray blaster bolts back into the ranks of the enemy, aiming to cripple and not kill. Their job was a mission of peace and he intended to hold to those values. "Stand strong!" he yelled, spurring on the soldiers. The enemy's advance had slowed but steadily pushed forward.
Galak's worry rose as the minutes passed. Soon enough the two armies would clash brilliantly in a melee spectacular, but the encroaching fear of the Jedi Master was cut short by the heroic cry of a communications officer. "Republic forces in sight, sir. Two battalion carriers inbound." A smile grew on Whest's face, the satisfaction settling in the pit of his stomach.
The approaching troop carriers caught the eye of the enemies as well. Some turned and ran, heading back to there camp, while others simply layed down their arms and fell face flat to the ground.
"Nice work, gentlemen," said Galak with a note of pride in his voice. The Republic had come up lucky again, and Galak sincerely hoped he could guide the hands of the soldiers to future incursions of success.
