Name: Aleema Maytif
Race: Omwati
Age: 23
Height: 5'9
Weight: 110lbs.
Birth place: Omwat
Appearance: Aleema fills the role of 'average Omwati' quite well. Her skin is smooth and, naturally, blue, and her features small and delicate. The only exception in her unblemished skin is a long scar on the inside of her right forearm, stretching from her elbow to her wrist. (This she received during her Knighthood Trials.)
In the way of hair, the feathery, thread-like substance is quite nacreous and pale enough almost to be transparent. Her eyes are large, round, and indigo, though relatively dull compared to most. As far as frame goes, she lacks much of a figure, instead being thin and wiry. In fact, an acquaintance once told her she could be broken in half like a stick.
Being one for tradition and simplicity, Aleema typically chooses to wear traditional Jedi robes. The tunic is a light beige and worn under a longer, dark brown, hooded robe. Under this she wears loose white pants and brown boots. The fabric, she makes sure, is purposefully rough and uncomfortable, so as to help sharpen her focus and learn to ignore physical pain and discomfort.
Regarding her movements, Aleema is rather graceful. She moves deliberately, and only when necessary--no pointless shifting or twitching. She would be perfectly content to stand absolutely still for hours on end. Her posture is straight, stretching to her full height, and she often stands with her arms crossed, staring down whomever she is talking to--though this is a habit she's forever trying to break.
Personality: Persistence--this one word covers Aleema. No matter what she's working on, she'll give it her all and continue to toil at it until she masters it. Slightly paranoid, she sometimes acts over-cautious in situations, resorting to stepping back and thinking through her options before acting. This, more than anything, hurt her during combat training exercises. Somewhat standoffish, she tends not to make pointless chitchat, instead getting to the bottom of the subject, whether it comes across as rude or not.
Her persistence is also what drives her to wear the rough robes she so often does. It's her way of being able to train, even when she's not actively training. The distraction of the scratching sensation on her skin is enough to deter her focus unless she purposely ignores it. This, she hopes, will enable her to focus completely, ignoring all physical feeling, in the future.
Aleema is extremely family-oriented, a trait from her upbringing that stuck with her, even through her Jedi training. Her own safety comes second to the safety of those she cares about, and she would willingly sacrifice herself if there was even a small chance a loved-one might be spared. Her close friends are regarded as family, and though she desperately yearns to know of her biological family, she's never been told much about them.
A tad prideful, Aleema likes to be right and hates to lose. Perhaps this is one of the reasons she tries so hard--too hard, sometimes. She's likely to push someone over the edge with her persistent asking or nagging, and this has happened in the past. Yet also quick to realize her mistakes, she's often able to remedy any relationships ruined. But not always.

Bio:
Aleema was born into a relatively average family on the planet of Omwat. There was nothing particularly unusual about her upbringing. That is, until a Jedi trained in finding Force-Sensitive children happened upon her. It was a chance encounter, really, but one that changed the course of her life.
The Jedi never gave his name. He didn't give much of an introduction at all. He came to Aleema's house, having passed on the street a mother, Rasha, carrying a three-year-old child and subsequently following her to her home. He explained to the mother that her daughter had the potential to become a Jedi, and that he wanted to take her to the temple to begin her training. Her mother flat out refused. Taken aback, the Jedi explained again what an impact she could make and how proud she could make her people, but the mother still refused to give up her first-born daughter.
Having never dealt with such strong family ties, the Jedi was at a loss. After much talking and persuasion, he finally convinced Rasha to let her daughter go--but there was one condition.
She wouldn't be taken until the last possible moment.
Relenting to the demand, the Jedi left, returning just shy of three years later, a day before Aleema's sixth birthday. Fully expecting Rasha to have run with the child, the Jedi was pleasantly surprised to find her waiting at the front door, her daughter standing beside her. She insisted upon giving her daughter some sort of parting gift, as a way to remember her family, but the Jedi wouldn't allow it. New younglings weren't allowed to keep any personal belongings related to their old life. In fact, they weren't allowed to keep much of anything at all.
And so Aleema was taken to the temple and placed in a class of other younglings her age. It was during this time Aleema's teachers noticed her intelligence, knack for the Force and, given her heritage, below-average strength and physical resilience.
Five years later, when she was 11, Aleema was selected as a Padawan. Strynth, a Jedi master, took an interest in the youngling while visiting classes one day. Though she lacked certain physical aspects, her mind was exceptionally intelligent compared to her classmates. Her mother, following traditional Omwati customs, had insured her daughter received proper training in engineering, enhancing her mind's processing power.
Strynth took Aleema in and immediately began her training. They started with Form I, which she quickly began to master, and so Strynth slowly added Form III, hoping to improve her physical weakness, though she was markedly slower in learning this particular form than other Padawans who also studied it. Her skill with the lightsaber, though not lax, wasn't as strong as her skill with the Force, nor her logical reasoning. Strynth gave partial credit to her race in general, as well as to her mother for having her properly trained from a young age.
Aleema asked about her family only once, after Strynth commented on how her mother had done right by her by taking advantage of the child's ability to learn. Strynth would only tell her a name--Rasha--and nothing else, much to Aleema's disappointment. When she questioned further, he gently explained that, if she were to become a Jedi, her past was of no consequence; all that mattered was the present and the future. Even after this, Aleema persisted, and Strynth was forced to get harsh, forbidding her to mention the subject again.
So she let it be. But she always still wondered. Blame it on her instinctual longing for a tight family.
Aleema formed her own family with fellow Padawans, though there were rarely times they both weren't training or on missions. Despite not seeing each other much, Aleema felt closer to them than she did to anyone else, save Strynth. Strynth and Aleema bonded easily, both preferring the defensive side of combat, both preferring the Force, and both preferring families--Strynth had previously lived on Omwat for a time and had grown fond of their love for close relationships. (His bond with the Omwati people was also a factor in his choosing Aleema as a Padawan.) Aleema went everywhere she could with Strynth, griping to herself whenever he was assigned a mission she wasn't allowed to tag-along on. To ease the bitterness, she would take extra classes with other Jedi and train twice as hard in his absence, so he would be proud upon his return.
Aleema's own missions began soon after she started training in Form II, when she was around 15 years of age. Strynth took her to the planet of Hurikane for a diplomatic mission to negotiate a sort of trade treaty with the native creatures. While the beings were somewhat receptive, Aleema's lack of smooth talking and her right-to-business attitude dampened their spirits, especially when she flat out asked for Hurrikaine crystals. Upon this, the pair was immediately sent away. Strynth, upset with Aleema's lack of control, refused to return to the temple until she had gone back and apologized for her behavior. The Hurikaneans, while still refusing to accept the offer of trade, awarded Aleema for her courage and the respect she had to come back and make better the errors of her ways. So Strynth and Aleema returned to the temple in good spirits, the latter in possession of a generous gift of Hurrikaine crystals.
Being a little on the young side, in Strynth's opinion, to construct a lightsaber of her own, he took the crystals and put them in safe keeping until he felt she was ready for the task.
This time came two years later, when Aleema was 17. She certainly had the intelligence necessary earlier than this, but Strynth felt she needed to improve in Form III before she was ready for a lightsaber of her own creation. Strynth retrieved the Hurrikaine crystals and presented them to Aleema, instructing her briefly before leaving her to begin her work. Quick minded and trained in engineering as a child on Omwat, Aleema quickly constructed the hilt and all the mechanics. Then came time to take care of the crystals.
For a month, Aleema remained in her chambers, meditating over the Hurrikaine crystals and imbuing them with the Force. Strynth once check on her, near the end of this process, but she was too deep in meditation to notice his arrival. When she finally finished, Aleema installed the crystals into the hilt and thus her lightsaber was made.
Aleema continued to train with Strynth, accompanying him on missions as well as going on some of her own, until the time of her Trials began approaching. Strynth, however, was worried for Aleema. During training, she tended to over-think, especially in combat, and this often cost her a few good strikes. He feared in a scheduled Trial setting, she might over-think and ruin her chances. So, without Aleema's knowledge, Strynth went before the council and made a somewhat odd request. He wanted to take Aleema on a 'mission' to a nearby planet. He then wished some of the Jedi from the temple to pose as Dark Jedi and 'ambush' her, giving Aleema an opportunity to perform on the spot, where her critical mind would be less likely to get in the way.
The Council accepted his request, and before long he and Aleema were on their way to the planet of Corellia for yet another 'diplomatic mission.' In fact, no meeting had been set up with the inhabitants of the planet at all. Shortly after their arrival, Strynth pulled Aleema aside and insisted she carry on the mission alone. She was ready, he claimed, and this would be a good opportunity to improve her skills. Honored, Aleema wished him well and continued alone.
Just minutes after their departure, two 'Dark Jedi' jumped out from behind a rocky formation, lightsabers wielded and at the ready. Alarmed, Aleema instinctually grabbed for her own, newly-made lightsaber. Portraying Dark Jedi well, the two Jedi taunted Aleema, daring her to kill them if she could. At first Aleema fought as she had in training, but hesitating even a moment to consider her options could have serious consequences, as she soon found out. In one moment, one second of hesitation, one of the Dark Jedi swiped his lightsaber around, up over his head, and down toward Aleema's side.
She was able to jump out of the way just in time, but not without first feeling the searing, burning pain of the lightsaber slicing into her arm. In the moment she gasped in a breath, one of the Jedi knocked her to the ground. Her head hit a rock and instantly she was thrust into unconsciousness.
It was during this time her vision came. It took her through her training, as well as the mission to Hurikane, and this most recent battle. Her actions, she realized, were heavily meditated during combat and far too rash otherwise. Her persistence got in the way of negotiations. If she was ever to improve, she would need to learn when to think and when to act. After this realization came, Aleema snapped awake, ready to face her opponents once more. As she once again got bearings of her surroundings, she realized the Dark Jedi had only moved a few inches since she'd fallen. The vision had seemed like minutes, though now she realized it had only been a mere second.
Rather than impair her performance, the injury and vision only intensified her passion. She let the instinct she'd learned during her training overtake her careful thinking of the next best move. As the fight raged on, Aleema took the defensive, fending off her attackers until both eventually fled the scene--odd for a Dark Jedi, though Aleema didn't think too much on this subject.
Strynth then approached her, having been watching the whole time, and nodding his approval. Confused, Aleema inquired what was going on, and Strynth explained to her how she'd just completed her Trials. The matter was, of course, taken before the Jedi Council. They went over each Trial, deliberating carefully.
For Skill, she had, of course, battled two Jedi Knights and beaten them back. For her skills with the lightsaber, the Jedi Council awarded her by declaring this Trial complete and passed.
For Courage, they examined her courage to engage in the battle in the first place. Rather than run and flee back to her master, she had stood her ground.
For Flesh, the now-scarring wound on her arm was proof enough. Even after the injury, she had continued her fight, not in the least phased.
For Spirit, the vision she'd experienced while unconscious. She'd explained it to Strynth on the way back, describing everything she had seen and realized about herself and her weaknesses and flaws.
And thus Aleema Maytif, at the age of 22, left her Padawan days behind and became a Jedi Knight.
These days were relatively recent, and since then Aleema hasn't seen a great deal of action. She has gone on various missions, of course, though none particularly noteworthy. Often she was accompanied by a partner, as she is still young.
And so continues the adventures of Aleema, Jedi Knight, and her many quests.

Aleema stood tall before the Jedi Council, listening intently as each member spoke, careful to keep any emotion from her face. This was the moment she'd been waiting for.
Her whole life, waiting for this moment. Training for this moment. Preparing, dreaming, longing for...
This moment.
"Aleema Maytif," someone was saying, "you have passed all the Trials with due diligence, and to the best of your ability. The Force is strong in you, and while there is room for improvement, we believe you are ready to become a Jedi Knight."
Aleema bowed her head to them softly, keeping her rigid stance. Her heart pounded in her chest, though she ignored it. A little harder to ignore, the sleeve of her robe rubbed and scratched against the gash that had been made just days before. It was harder not to think about, but not impossible.
"We believe you will stay loyal to the Jedi Knights, for as long as you live, and fight for them, and for freedom," the Council member went on.
Again Aleema bowed her head. "Yes, sir."
She took the smallest second to glance over at Srynth, standing to her side as the ceremony proceeded. He winked, flashing her a quick smile. She gave no sign of having seen, though she was sure Strynth was aware she had.
"And so we welcome you, -Jedi- Aleema Maytiff."
Now Aleema let forth a smile, bowing to each Council member and thanking him or her. A happiness she'd never known swelled in her chest. All those years of pain and weariness, the countless hours of training, the missions with Strynth...now it had all payed off. And it was worth it.
Every last second was now worth it. And this is why Aleema grinned. This is why she nearly teared up as Strynth looked her up and down, his bright eyes sparkling, his head nodding in approval.
And now...now it was time to begin the rest of her life.
