Name: Ithan Vitaan
Race: Omwati
Age: 29
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 154 lbs
Appearance: The similarities between an omwati and a human are often said to be plentiful, but this is really only relative to the wider galactic spectrum of races; if you stood Ithan next to a human himself, you would certainly have no trouble in noticing wherein the differences were. His skin is a sort of pale blue-grey colour, though it can occasion take on a darker tone when Ithan is experiencing strong emotions, which of course is not often as a Jedi. Ithan’s whole body is quite willowy and spindly, his lack of physicality being evident from his neck to his feet. That being said, he is quite tall and, on account of his sharp facial structures, a little imposing to behold. On the rare occasion that his robes reveal part of Ithan’s body, it becomes apparent that his legs and arms possess odd bulges where his muscles would be as his biology will not sufficiently accommodate the level of strength the Jedi have tried to train him to have – whilst slight, these are noticeable and a little unsightly.
Ithan’s thin face has a long protruding chin and pointy ends to his ears, nose, and eye holes, which encase his glowing blue eyes. This sharp styling is a feature that dominates his face, making him often appear stern and serious when he really isn’t. Despite this, a more pleasing feature of Ithan’s is the fact that his eyes rarely close, which may sound disconcerting but in truth only serves to bring a colourful glow to the top of his face. Atop his head sits a regal-looking collection of pearly white feathers forming what is essentially Ithan’s hair. The silky soft feathers may be appealing to the touch, but Ithan rarely wears his ‘hair’ well, and often there may be specs of white on the floor around him where bits of the feathers do the omwati equivalent of malting.
For clothing Ithan generally adheres to the dress code of the Jedi, opting for beige underclothes with a long brown robe that he wear over the top. Should the situation call for it, such as needing to impersonate someone or go undercover, Ithan would of course adopt different clothing to better perform his task. It should be noted that his dignified omwati appearance means that Ithan can convincingly pose as senior officials and politicians for example, though it isn’t a job he’d usually have.
Personality: By far Ithan’s defining personality trait is his curiosity, something which both enhances and threatens his position as a keeper of the peace. In its most frequent manifestation, Ithan’s curiosity leads him to be something of a bookworm, the jedi spending hours of his time sifting through the library and the archives. This behaviour has led to officials praising the omwati knight for his enthusiasm, but awkward social skills generally. As kind-hearted and warm as he is, Ithan cannot help himself appearing sometimes elitist or something similar to his peers. In reality it seems his constant quoting and referencing of things he has read is just a way for Ithan to make sense of the galaxy around him, but to others it can seem as though he is trying to assert some kind of intellectual superiority over them. In fact Ithan finds people with speech-patterns like his own to be very difficult to tak to, and would much rather chat away to a slave on Tatooine than a politician on Coruscant, its just that he struggles more with the former. Aside from such negative aspects though, it does make Ithan very well-versed, and often the extensive amount of reading time he spends gives him at the very least a basic understanding of whatever new concepts he may encounter. Many have referenced the ‘juvenile’ decision by Master Tchukk in teaching Ithan force comprehension at such a young age as a major factor towards him burying himself, and masters at the temple often take issue with what they perceive as an unjedi-like desire.
Quite aside from the perhaps more harmless nature of Ithan’s curiosity, in the field it can cause him to make decisions that have been occasion threatening to himself and those around him. An example would be passing a dark cave on his way to somewhere important, but a strange frequency is emitting from its depths – its unlikely that Ithan would pass it by as he should, leading to him often compromising missions in this way. New species too are a fascination of Ithan’s, and he can often be found spending long amounts of time with people and creatures he meets because he’s curious about them and what they are. Of course, sometimes the jedi’s rash decisions to go and investigate can lead to important discoveries too, but most are in agreement that these are too few and far between to warrant such behaviour from the omwati knight.
Distant is a word used often to describe Ithan’s presonality, though not often by himself. He is an incredibly deep thinker when not under any stress, to the point where he may seem to slip in and out of consciousness as others talk to him. Whilst not intentional, it can appear rude. Though he wouldn’t like to admit it Ithan is probably something of a philosopher, always looking for meaning and order in even the most convoluted chaos. On the good side though it does give Ithan a better sense of self and allows him to articulate his views and ideals very well when he’s using understandable Basic. Another ‘distant’ quirk of his is Ithan’s humming of odd melodies, or at least that’s as it appears – in reality the tuneful language of the omwati means that sometimes to make sense of one’s own thoughts one has to hum a little tune – it’s not jolly and it’s not madness, just somewhere in between.
Among Ithan’s interests are science and engineering, which his uncanny knack for probably helps his enthusiasm. Whilst generally accepted to be one of the lesser abled pilots in the Jedi Order, Ithan does have a keen interest in the engineering behind spacecraft and other vehicles; he’s actually at the stage where he can now perform simple but useful repairs to a ship’s systems with basic tools. To expand further on his engineering skills Ithan is constantly studying the science behind lightsabers, though in truth it becomes tricky to know where the science ends and the ‘magic’, for lack of a better word, begins. Still, Ithan’s proficiency in computers and mechanical systems makes him a valuable asset in situations requiring such skills.
As a jedi Ithan has great compassion for essentially all forms of life, something that he takes very seriously. Though Ithan may struggle at times with prolonged social interaction, his openly caring and kind warmth often helps to get people ‘on side’. Most jedi would argue that amongst knights of his age Ithan is particularly life-loving and to a greater extent peace-loving. Ithan is not afraid to divulge to the most senior masters his reservations about any fighting and warring the jedi are involved in, even self-defence battles against sith warriors. Though perhaps an important trait for a jedi to have, such an anti-war stance can leave Ithan less determined in a fight and at a significant mental disadvantage to opponents he may encounter (something that is only exacerbated by his reluctance to draw a weapon). As Ithan would insist, the force only exists because there is life in all shapes, sizes and forms, and to attack any one of them is to attack and weaken the force itself.
Ithan’s views are not universally popular amongst the jedi order, and his sometimes-erratic behaviour is a cause for concern too. Instincts and sentient intuition are what Ithan believes to be the best way to use and learn from the force. Amongst the many reasons for masters to take issue with Ithan’s thoughts (the fear mainly being that his thoughts may become teachings) is that he believes the force itself has no knowledge of the future or a greater scope of life, and that in fact it is only each jedi’s interraction with their force and the force around them that leads their own minds to whatever conclusions they may draw. Though he may not be so concentrated in his criticism, Ithan essentially believes the idea of a ‘universal’ force to be nonsense, instead assuming that the force is an energy that is shaped and changed by the way in which people interract with it. Many would argue such a view belittles the force by assuming it merely an instrument to use, but Ithan is of the belief that we empower the force by doing good, so any ‘weak’ force or the like would only be the result of somebody improperly using it. Unfortunately, this does make him quite critical of his own actions and over-meticulous about being good. In addition, amongst his controversial views is that a ‘balanced’ force is one made up of 50% good and 50% bad, and that in fact the galaxy functions better when it and the force are allowed to misbehave (but again his views are just beliefs fuelled by genuinely good intentions).
