Name: Astin Jardoss Rholar
Race: Human
Age: 16
Height: 6 ft.
Weight: 153 Lbs.
Appearance:
The first thing one can notice of Astin is his neatly done, light brown hair, which is always kept well maintained. Sometimes it tends to get a little scruffy, but he still manages to look good either way. His other most prominent trait, is his handsomeness. Astin is in no way ugly, and in fact this has enhanced his altogether image, giving him the light of a bold, young hero in training, like a Knight on our planet. He looks (and acts) chivalrous, warm, and open. His face is inviting, and not many ever forget it. His eyes, also stunningly attractive, have somewhat of a brooding feel, and have bushy eyebrows above them. The color is light blue-grey, reminiscent of the oceans of some planets. He has a strong chin, and bright smile, with nicely lined, white teeth. Altogether, he is a fair Padawan, not lacking in the way of looks.
His body is not as big as most would compare with the strength he hides in it, but it is clearly fit. His muscles are well defined for such a young boy, and his shoulders squared. He always stands up straight, looking everyone he meets right in the eyes. Of course, it helps to be as tall as he is, even coming across as imposing to some kids. His hair accentuates his height, but without it he is still six feet tall. Some could say he is moderately toned, but not so much as those who have been working harder longer. His legs are very powerfully built though, since as a Shien user, he relies on more physical attacks. He's also slender, not overly burly as some Jedi feel they should be, and this makes him weigh a little less.
His robes are the typical Padawan robes, a light brown tunic to cover his under clothing. Light brown pants, finely hemmed, to fit his tall size. His boots are shined, and light brown, also custom-fitted to his size. He has the customary brown robes, for both the elements and stealth. It is also very comfortable, and can be used to sleep with too. He has a leather belt, also customary of the Order, with pockets for rations, his comlink, his lightsaber, etc. He has the Padawan's braid, with several different beads and to pieces of cloth, one of them from the Chief of a tribe on Thracior. This braid symbolizes his status, and it holds a place of significance in his life.
Personality:
Astin is, first and foremost, very respectful. He has, never once in his sixteen years, spoken out of turn, except the times he has to in order to pass as some disguise. To his Master's, he always bows, and addresses them as Master, even Knights. Astin never speaks when they are speaking, and does his best to pay attention to every word. Often-times he has been called a Master's pet, but he takes no offense. The only way to learn, is to seek someone who knows right? None of the padawans or younglings know do they? Even with the rivalries and competitions, Astin is fair to his peers, and never goes out of his way to harm or insult any of his fellow Jedi. He takes care to even encourage them, being somewhat of a source of strength, and his honor and bravery have inspired some of his Clan Mates too.
Astin is also very honest, and fair. He has lied every now and then, but he apologizes when he does. He's not perfect, no, still just a human. Even then though, he only lies to either cover for his friends or trick one of the Masters. Basically, his loyalty has gotten in his way, and his pranks have almost gotten tiring, though they are actually well prepares. Beyond the few lies, he's generally a very honest person, never hiding what he feels is right or should happen. When he reports to the Council for a de-briefing, he shares any feelings he had that were not of the Jedi, and why he did. This too, impressed the Council, since he truly does seek to be better in everything he does. Even small conversations are evidence, but more important is small matters. His fairness, which comes from his father, is key to most of what he does. He never cheats, and never takes an advantage if he can help it. The long and hard road is the one he wants to walk, though he does so with exceptional courage and skill, and one day it'll pay off. As well, as seen in his dispute mediating and the likes, Astin always find a middle ground even for himself, and never sees anything one-sided.
Astin is also very brave, and honorable. In terms of service, few padawans can match him. He's an example many should aspire to be, since he would give his own life even now to save a friend, or civilian of the Republic. While some see this as an extremist and somewhat damaging view, he continues on. He believes his life is worth no more than the next sentient, and that if he can, he will help in any way possible. Which is why on the few missions requiring more than diplomatic skills, he heads into combat with a smile, and a confidence even his late Master Ohmar found comforting. As for his honor, he has unlimited amounts. He has a strict moral code, along with the Jedi Code, that he adheres to. It goes, always do your best in everything you do, never give up or surrender in the face of certain defeat, always seek the truth and never accept a lie, deliver justice to those who deserve it and cannot get it themselves, always help those who need it, and most importantly, never judge those who have already been judged. Astin sees the good in people whenever he can, as the Code forbids feelings such as hate or envy, or despair. Some make mistakes, and if they pay for it, they do but it does not mean they need to be punished unfairly and treated less than anyone else.
Still, Astin has a few undesirable traits. For instance, he does play pranks. While these are harmless and in good fun (even some of the Knights and Masters agree he is actually pretty good), the Council has told him of these jokes. They are not good for ones character, and can lead to trouble later. He also feels a sense of connection with his parents, always asking about them, or inquiring into their businesses. The Jedi do not teach students to allow attachment, but Astin has yet to fully learn this fact, and hopes to one day meet his parents. This also could lead to trouble. Perhaps most important, is his deep sadness over the death of Master Vebb. Though he has dealed with it as best he can, noone can truly be prepared for someone as close as they were to die. Plus, he's just a boy, who had no real mother or father. This has given him nightmares of shadowy, dark figures, murdering his master, sometimes mauling, While the Council feels he has yet to truly face it, and is not prepared, they also feel he is not a threat. Any Jedi would have trouble, and they are preparing a Master for him to be trained with. Someone who could help him with this burden.
Overall, Astin is a good kid, with lots of heart, pride, and courage. As a duelist, few can match him in his class. His power and determination make him a formidable opponent. As a diplomat, Astin has proven his insight and fairness, and his special talent in finding a way to have both sides profit. As a student, Astin is attentive and respectful, learning quickly and accurately. As a peer, he's a good friend, and even better partner, since you'll win most competitions if he is on your side for sure. Astin is strongly moral and ethical, as made evident, always trying to do the right thing. In conclusion, he's an optimist in a darker time, a scion of the laws of old, and a gentleman in very nearly all aspects. Someone you can trust, respect, admire, and learn with, every step of the way.

Bio:
Birth/Youngling Years
Astin was found on the planet of Talravin, the famous homeworld of the Shan bloodline. His father, Gradok, was a well known farmer, owning vast tracts of land and a small farming company. The work they did usually went toward feeding the cities with food non-imported, and to charities. His mother, Kahlonna, was a skilled scientist, working for the planet's government in the study of weapons and technological advancements. Combined, his parents were a moderately wealthy couple, with good morals and values, passing this down to their son. When he was born, they were overjoyed, and excited at the prospect of someone to carry on their legacy. He had his blood checked as the law expected, and the Jedi did find a large concentration of Midi-Chlorians in his blood. However, his parents were not sure if they wanted to give him up yet. So it was he was allowed to stay home with his parents for a few years, so they could have had time to decide.
Initially, as he grew up, there were few signs he was Force-sensitive. His mother constantly coddled him, able to have more time with him since she had been promoted to office manager. He grew up happy and healthy, that is until he was three. One day, his father took him to work, to show his son off and see if he had any kind of attachment to farm work. When his father set him down and walked away for a moment to investigate a piece of farm machinery, Astin saw a nearby tool. Seeing one of the men going for it, he managed to somehow grab it before he did, going much faster than a man many times his size. Astounded, his father told his mother the news, and they used their money, and "vacation" time, to take him to Coruscant. This open display of power beyond their dreams, and the fact that their baby seemed not as content with such a life, proved that their choice was already made. They approached the Jedi themselves, and offered their son to join their serene ranks. The baby was strong enough in the Force that they glaldy accepted him, and promised to treat him well. So the Order took him in, with his parents promising to use what recourses they had to aid his training and the Order itself. He was immediately placed in the Begruufta Clan, due greatly to his good heart and strong ties to others.
The Begruufta Clan, named the massive quadrapeds from Teloc Ol-sen. Like the plant-eaters, they were loyal and true to those in the Clan. The Clan members would always be with each other, like the herds of Begruufta, and learn to work together. As well, they would fiercely protect each other from danger, their sense of loyalty being loyal. Astin was no exception, since he was born to be a Begruufta Clan member it seemed.
At about 5, he was formally named an Initiate, and began to learn more of the Force. He had already gone though extensive training as a young boy, but now he could actually learn at a faster rate and understand more. He and his Clan-Mates bonded quickly, all of them being more connected than usual thanks to their loyalty traits. His best friend, Fargo Ghent, was a smaller boy, smarter than most. Together they would play, making up grand adventures of them saving the day like great Jedi of old such as Master Thon or Master Cay Qel-Droma. Sometimes they got in trouble too, but it was all in good fun and he always apologized if they did. As a result, he began to get a knack for causing trouble, believing it was his place to create fun in a more serious setting, since noone else was "brave" enough. Still, he was able to learn faster in a better environment, and did his best at everything he did. This was a case of his father's blood coming through, a hard worker in his own right.
His favorite part of training, as he got older, was the extensive work out. Although Fargo was less inclined for it, the other younglings, beginning to look up to the taller, "cooler" Astin, began to join him. When he would have adventures, it was clear just who was the hero, the man with no fear. Astin stood tall, and Fargo liked to remain the side-kick, the one with the brains. This created in Astin a strong sense of right and wrong, which of course would expand as he got older and wiser. It also stirred in him the traits desirable of the Begruufta Clan, especially his bravery. When he was 9, the kids were all training one day, and one of the laser droids, used for saber training, got out of hand. The Master in charge was on the other side of the room, so Astin quickly leapt up and hit the droid, getting hit by a stunning laser as he did. The Master used the Force to catch it and de-activate the droid, but he was impressed with his quick thinking and urge to save his friend. The class all crowded around and said things like thank you and Astin the hero, while the training Master patted him on the shoulder. Fargo only laughed, telling Astin he had saved the day once more.
He still enjoyed all aspects, and naturally became a leader in his Clan, but he was exceptionally strong in the area of physical teachings. As time went on, he began to grow stronger than the usual kid, and also showed clear mental aptitude. He was, altogether, proving to be a skilled young boy. He also showed great respect for his teachers, giving him a good standing with the older Masters. They liked him because he not only tried his best at everything small thing he did, but he would help his fellow Clan mates too. At the age of 11, he took the Initiate Trials. He passed with complete ease, putting his best foot forwards as always, and everyone in the Clan congratulated him. He was their leader, no doubt about it, and when he graduated into being a Padawan, they all looked to him as an example of what to be.
Padawan
A Master, to be more precise Master Ohmar Vebb, took him as his Padawan. He was initially impressed with the boy's natural moral code, and strong sense of work/peer ethics. He was, in a sense, already more mature than most his age, and proved to Ohmar to be a suitable candidate indeed. When he took him on, the very first thing they did together was talk about politics, something Astin found both amusing and interesting. Some aspects made him laugh at their absurdity, but other parts like psychological understanding, spoke to his mother's genes. This was a great start to a sad career, but the two were destined for one another. Shortly after, Astin was sent to Ilum with Master to construct his lightsaber. He did so successfully of course, and the end result pleased both himself and his Master. Their relationship was already beginning to grow in such a short time, and the bond only made teaching easier and more relaxing.
Astin's first lessons on the Force were of telepathic powers. Since he was such a calm person, Astin was able to center himself more easily, and found he was naturally talented with matters of the mind. He progressed quickly, while at the same time progressing in dueling lessons. His Master was a natural Djem So user, and as a stronger person himself, it catered well to this strength. The bouts they had were long, and tiring, but extremely in depth. Of course, Ohmar taught him about other parts of the Force, with Astin finding more of a connection with Body, Sense, and Healing. His Master remarked he was definitely a team player, if not leader. For two years, they studied at the Temple, and eventually Master Vebb he was ready for a mission. They were assigned a task, to mediate a dispute between two Senators there on Coruscant. They could not agree on who had caused an accident between their speeders, and both threatened legal action. Their aides had agreed they would need someone to play a third party. So it was they were sent, and what a site it was. One Senator, from Illodia, and another, from Wroona, stood on a small landing platform with two wrecked speeders being hauled by a tow-speeder. The two stopped their bickering and bowed to Ohmar and Astin, who in turn, bowed to them. They asked for both sides of the story separately, coming together after they had heard each account on their own. They found several small discrepancies in each story, and it was Astin who decided, both Senators could be blamed for the whole mess. They had been in a hurry, and forgotten the rules of speeder traffic/piloting.
The Senators both looked embarrassed, being told they each shared responsibility by a kid, and that they should work together to cover the expenses. The two agreed, and thanked the Jedi for their help. Ohmar was proud to report a success, and that young Astin's mind was very sharp indeed. Pleased, the Council sent them on more diplomatic missions, foremost among them a Tribal dispute on Thracior. Again showing a knack for negotiation and insight, Astin saw that the major problem was a marrying of different Tribes, something they all frowned upon. As a Jedi, he was taught not to love, but his Master agreed that love for others was important, and that it was their job to help make it sacred. Astin spent two weeks, with his Master again playing a small role, speaking with the Chief. He could not grasp why they hated interclan marriage, as they had no real reason, just that it was tradition. Astin asked the Chief, since by the Force it happened to be his daughter in question, if her happiness and their future were worth his ignorance. He also pointed out the Jedi Code, there is no ignorance, only knowledge, and that if he was wise and partook in this, it would mean prosperity for a while to come. The Chief demanded to know why such a young boy though he knew so much, and Astin only replied that he was merely doing the right thing, the Jedi thing. Ohmar agreed with a grin, putting a hand on the boy's shoulder and remarking he was very insightful. The Chief agreed, and allowed his daughter to marry the Clan in question, which had been outcast for its interclan marriage allowance but known for its expansion and excellence of its workers. Again proving quite the diplomat, and Jedi, the Council recieved a generally positive report.
Diplomatic missions were not their only tasks though, since the pair were obviously skilled combatants as well. The Planet Elerion is a haven for gamblers, and the kind they associate with. There are numerous to hide, play, or most especially, kill on this planet that never sleeps.
The death of Master Vebb
A few months later, after he turned 16, his Master was sent on a private reconnaissance mission for the Republic, to see if a planet was in talks with the Sith, and he had been nefariously killed, the Order knew not yet by who. His death was reported by his only partner, Knight Fen Jisco, who said shadowed assassins had attacked the pair during their regular meditation session. The news greatly saddened Astin, and he was almost un-prepared for the loss, almost. As somewhat of a test, he was brought before the Council to feel his resolve. They asked him if he felt prepared to take another Master, or wanted to leave the Order, perhaps even seek revenge. While the latter would have been expected, the former was the choice they hoped he would seek, and he somehow knew the right thing to do. His only statement was short, but very well said. They considered his statement for a moment, and were approving. He bowed and left the Council chambers with a nod from the Grandmaster.
The Council knew that Astin had been loyal and true to himself throughout the whole ordeal, and that he was truly a Jedi in spirit. The Begruufta Clan Master spoke with Astin, and assured him he was a good kid, heading down the path of becoming great. Astin replied that he was still very much sad, and needed help overcoming the grief of this death, since it was no easy thing, what he was going through. He was not great, he did nothing great, he simply did as his Master would expect. The Clan Master accepted his humility and honesty, and promised to find him a suitable Master, with the aid of the Council, to finish his training.

Astin had been seated in a cross-legged position when Master Vebb arrived, and his eyes closed in meditation. When he felt the presence of his Master, he steadily rose, bowing when at last he stood. Master he said respectfully, his face holding a small grin. Master Vebb nodded his head and motioned for him to come and sit with him on the small couch in Astin's quarters. Come and sit, young Astin, for I have welcoming news he said, a smile of his own on his face. His eyes had a warm twinkle, as they often did, and showed he wasn't lying. Astin nodded and strode over, grinning as he walked. Ohmar moved over a little so Astin could be seated more comfortably, and Astin replied with a thank you before sitting down. Master Vebb turned to him, and began. Astin, my young padawan, I am leaving on a private mission for a while. It won't take to long, but, someone on the Council has agreed to mentor you while I am gone, that is if they have time and if you even need their guidance. He chuckled and allowed Astin to take this in. Astin at first slumped, bummed that his Master would be leaving, but began to consider what Masters would teach him. Maybe Master Si Quan, or even Master Roq! No no, both were probably to busy to teach him at all. He'd do anything though, to study with Master Roq! He looked cool, acted cool, was cool, no other qualifications needed. It didn't matter, someone would keep an eye on him and continue his lessons.
Master...I wish you didn't have to go but, you are good at what you do he said, smiling and nodding to his Master. It was true, as a Guardian, few could match him indeed. I am also excited at this small opportunity too, for it does not come often. Master Vebb nodded in return, and put a hand on his shoulder. It is good you see this, and I want you to study constantly. Mind your little jokes my padawan, and remember, if any of them speak, listen! Their wisdom is great, and I cannot even begin to match them, he said, looking Astin in the eyes. Astin sighed and joked, I'll mind my jokes Master before laughing and patting his Master's arm. Master Vebb stood, and Astin rose with him, acting in instinct. The two looked each other in the eye, and for some reason, chose to embrace. Astin would miss his Master yes, but it was only for a short time. He'd have enough time to advance some in skill, and learn new things. Master Vebb would complete another mission, taking him one step closer to being on the Council. Everything was good, and he'd be okay.
Mind yourself Astin, and you'll do well. Never forget, you can find knowledge and wisdom everywhere, but only when you look he said, before stepping back. Astin bowed and said, Yes, Master. May the Force be with you. Master Vebb replied with the same, and swept out of the room. Astin went to sit back down on the floor, and folded his legs in a criss cross position. He hadn't inquired where his Master was going, but if he needed to know, Master Vebb would have told him. It was only fair, since he'd have no idea what Astin was doing here at the Temple, at least he thought so. A wry grin spread across his face, and thoughts of yet another prank on his fellow padawan friend Hurk Jouh came to mind. Yes, he'd have no idea at all, none. Astin chuckled and closed his eyes, letting his mind wander in the Force. Wherever he was going, he hoped Master Vebb had the Force with him, he really did.
