Name:Dalaya Sulu
Race: Miraluka
Age: 9
Height:4’7”
Weight:81.9 lbs.
Appearance:
Narrower than it is short, Dalaya’s head provides a definite frame for her oriental features: her smooth nose and small ears are in near perfect proportion with the rest of her face, giving her features a clear balance. Like all other Miralukans, Dalaya has empty eye sockets and perceives the world using just the force. She keeps these sockets covered at all times, preferring to use a black sleeping-mask rather than the more common cloth, because they can be disconcerting to others and herself.
Dalaya’s wavy obsidian hair is cut to her shoulder with many scruffy layers because she finds up keeping long hair to be too tiresome and distracting, and her personal style of dress sometimes puts her at odds with her teachers: she insists upon donning grey clothes rather than the more traditional beige or brown as she believes that ‘grey is the most tranquil colour’.
Her height is rather unremarkable, and Dalaya’s pale skin hides any muscle definition. Whilst not physically strong, Dalaya is one of the faster younglings and can move with precision.
Personality:
Calm and controlled, Dalaya exudes an air of confidence and purpose which is derived from her constant, rigorous analysis of all situations she finds herself in. This dependence on analytical thought is both a strength and weakness: Dalaya is skilled at avoiding trouble; however she may fail to take other people’s feelings into account when making decisions.
For Dalaya control is the most important aspect of her Jedi training. She meditates several times a day, in an attempt to stop her emotions from clouding her judgement. However, one feeling still persists – her disdain for her lack of eyes. Dalaya does not feel bitter about her ‘blindness’, but is bothered by the way others view her empty sockets. She has become self-conscious, and cannot perform even mundane tasks without her sleeping mask firmly in place.
Dalaya is not tempted by the promises of the dark side of the force, because control is more important to her than power, and yet she does not wish to become too immersed in the light side of the force for fear of creating a personal imbalance. Despite this, she feels that the Jedi fight for a noble cause: it seems to her that it is those aligned to the dark side that most often have the bad habit of disturbing the force.
She naturally has a deep respect for authority, and will follow the orders of her superiors without question unless she feels that she has been ordered to do something which contradicts the Jedi code. If she were to be ordered to do such a thing, her first course of action would be to inform someone else with the authority to handle the situation.

Bio:
Age 0-1
Dalaya was born on Alpheridies to two civilian teenagers named Zebron Jovs and Elaine Munda who lived in a small town. The two were both school students with slightly above average grades, and had only been dating for a few months, but once pregnant Elaine insisted on having the child. Dalaya was named after Elaine’s grandmother, because they had a similar presence. As Dalaya was an ‘unintentional child’ Zebron was keen to put her up for adoption, but Elaine did not agree. Zebron decided that he would change the child’s last name, so that the child would have no connection to its birth family, and ask the Jedi to take her in a few months. Zebron felt that the Jedi would accept her because Elaine’s family had a particularly good connection to the force.
Two weeks before her first birthday a Jedi Knight called Juiin Saldo came to the planet to take her back to the Jedi Order. Zebron was honoured and gladly accepted his offer, however when Elaine returned home from school that day she was horrified at what he had done. The argument lasted for hours, but Elaine came to accept that it would have been near impossible to provide a happy and stable environment for her daughter and realised that she would have a better life in the Jedi temple. Dalaya does not remember much of this time: only the face of the Jedi in who’s arms she departed the planted, and an old lullaby that her mother used to sing to her (though she remembers neither of her parents).
Age 1-6
As a very young child Dalaya had a bubbly personality, and was filled with warmth and empathy like her mother. However the only person whom she truly felt safe with was the human Jedi that had taken her to the Temple, Juiin Saldo. Juiin was a compassionate man, forty seven when he met Dalaya, who believed that the only way to find peace with the force was to protect others and show sympathy for them. Juiin felt oddly drawn to Dalaya, and spent much time with her, passing on his view about the force and his outlook on life through simple stories that kept the young child entertained.
Dalaya was fascinated with the force, and its workings, so she would always spend some time each day practising. It was her dream to be as close to the force as possible, but she feared that her performance during her lessons was somehow inadequate and she would be sent to the corps. Every day she felt privileged to be in the Temple, and would thank the force in the morning. This began a personal pattern of force worship different to that of the other younglings: she revered the force as a God.
When Dalaya reached the age of four, the other children began to tease her because she had no eyes, which lead to her self-consciousness about her lack of eyes. When Juiin heard what had happened, he felt sorry for the young girl and bought her a black sleeping mask with adjustable straps so that she could better cover her empty sockets from the other younglings.
The time spent with Juiin greatly increased her confidence, and by the time she was five she had made her first friend: a shy human girl by the name of Sky Laker. The two were inseparable for a long time, and found new inspiration for their training through each other. Dalaya hoped that these days would never end, and they still account for her most fond memories.
Dalaya had no friends other than Sky, and feared rejection if she approached the other children. This meant that she was fairly isolated even though she was friends with Sky, and this was and is evident in her lack of interpersonal skills.
However a month before Dalaya’s sixth birthday Juiin Saldo was killed by a dark Jedi on Tatooine. The dark Jedi had used Saldo’s positive emotions against him by threatening to kill those who gave him joy: Saldo became angry and careless, no match for the dark Jedi.
Age 6-9
When Dalaya heard of her friend’s death she felt great sorrow and loneliness. She was no longer sure what it meant to be a Jedi, and did not know why her friend had to die. One day she saw a Jedi master sitting in the temple gardens and asked him what it meant to be a Jedi. The master replied that Jedi sacrificed their emotions to gain the control needed to protect others. Dalaya now thought that everything she had learnt about being a Jedi was wrong, and had a dramatic change of attitude.
Dalaya began to put a huge emphasis on calmness and self-control, meditating every morning and trying to make peace with her friend’s death. She now wished only to be the best Jedi possible, and attempted to eliminate her fear of being sent to the agricorps and replace it with measured confidence in her abilities. She struggled with her confidence for the next year, at times being unconfident and at times being arrogant.
She lost contact with her old friend Sky, and began to focus solely on her training, quickly improving her speed and her abilities with the force. A naturally intelligent girl, Dalaya also read much about the history of the Jedi and the workings of the force. She began asking questions to her teachers about the Jedi of old, and dreamt of one-day being able to learn the Makashi style.
This was also the time in which Dalaya developed her obsession with balance, and began to focus on acquiring physical and mental balance. She felt that it would be a mistake for her to concentrate too much on one area of her training only, and held the balance of the force as an extreme ideal.
Having finished the training of a youngling, Dalaya dreams of being taken as a padawan, but no Jedi has thus far expressed an interest in her. She feels somewhat disheartened, but would never admit it for fear of appearing weak.
