VROOM!!
Bit failed to blink as a swoop bike went speeding by his little placement right next to the swoop track. Most everyone else covered their eyes to escape the wind, but, being a pilot, it didn't very much bother the man. He did need to relight his cigarette: big deal.
Bit really wasn't suppose to have landed on any planet, but he had some leeway when it came to what he did. He was checking out these new fighters they had. The man sent a message back to Spearpoint saying he had to land to make repairs. In truth, he wanted to get a check of it, and decided to waste a little time
Of course, he didn't mean he had to repair the fighter, but nobody else needed to know that. Bit looked up at the holo-board across the way, seeing the next swoop bike line up on the track. He didn't catch the name as it went by: some fatass was in his way.
Bit rubbed the short growth of beard on his face as he watched the swoop bike raced down the track, going faster than the last one. As soon as it was passed where he was, the haggard looking man stubbed out his cigarette, stood up, and left for the main arena where people would be waiting.
It took him a few minutes of walking, but made it to the arena, where fans and swoop racers who finished their runs were. Many fans were by their favorite racer, but Bit held back, looking for a certain pale skinned woman: the only person he knew here.
He though back to his last meeting with Dia Amersu, the waitress who he caused to loose her job, and had her fix him up after he was shot. He left on horrible terms, and well, why he came back here he didn't really know. Bit just let himself thing that it was to try to patch things up, and maybe try to get to know her a little better than a bad night and an awkward breakfast.
For once, the man didn't have a cigarette lit up, or at least sitting in his mouth. He smoothed out his black shirt, which was slightly wrinkled from being under his flightsuit. Hands in the pockets of his cargo pants, he scanned the area for that familiar looking woman.

Var had just finished her third heat, and she had to say her new swoop was good. She'd been lucky, damned lucky, that a representative of Incom had been watching the season opener. He'd scooped her up with an amazing signing bonus and steady contract, complete with a swoop that wasn't Donnie's.
Appropriately it was a sort of sparkly jet black. It also handled like a dream, and the acceleration was truly fantastic. She'd also been lucky to attract a mechanic to help her, though she wasn't entirely sure Donnie accepted the right of anyone else to help.
Blazinda Kast was her name, and she was in the pit with Var's pet raven Eleanor when the Twi'lek woman rode in on her swoop. The mechanic was half-Epicanthix, and ridiculously bubbly.
"Dia, let me check that intake, was it still rattling around?"
"A little," Var confirmed as she reached towards her raven, stroking the feathers on her head with a gloved hand as she explained the problem.
"There's a clicking sound whenever I throttle up, I'm worried about the controls."
Blazinda pulled out a wrench and started to work on the intake.
"Y'know Dia, you're still in second place, and they still give medals for that. You're also sitting on a pretty nice contract-"
"I know," Var said dismissively. "But I need the practice, and the better I do the better I feel. So what you can do about that rattling."
The other woman nodded cheerfully. "You've got it boss lady!"
The pale Twi'lek woman lowered her shoulder and allowed Eleanor to climb onto it before turning towards the stands, pausing at the very entrance to the pits where a few fans were interested in autographs.
While she was signing one she saw a man approaching she recognized.
What's he doing here?

It didn't take Bit very long before his old habit kicked in, and he had a cigarette lit up and stuck in his mouth. He kept his eyes closed now, leaning up against a pillar. His ears were open though, and soon enough, the man heard Dia's name called over the loudspeaker as she finished up a heat.
Seems like she's doing quite well.
Stubbing out the cigarette on the bottom of his boot, he went over to the scoreboards. Right up there in black and white was Dia's name, ranked second in the heats. Bit nodded slightly, then found his feet taking him to where the pits were.
30 seconds later, he could see the pale skin of his twi'lek acquaintance. As soon as he did, he broke off of his trajectory. The man felt his heart start up, and knew that he would have nothing to say to the woman once he got to her.
c'mon, ya pussy. When have you ever backed down from talking to a woman.
Really, what was his problem. He walked to a food-stall, where he bought himself a beer (For an outrageous price) and chugged it right there. It calmed him down a little, so hopefully he would have been able to at least say something. As ready as he could be, he made his way back to the pit's.
It took but moments for him to find the woman with his eyes, then make his way to where she was. He tried to put out his cockiness into his walk, but as soon as she looked up and locked eyes with the man, he faltered, tripping slightly and nearly walked into a pair of duro's. He apologized to them, and resumed his walk to the woman, a sheepish smile on his face for a second, until he locked eyes with her again: the smile faded quickly. He held back from most of the woman's fans, and waited for them to thin out before he completed his short trek.
Um... looks like you're... Hows it going?
Good job, dumbass. Such a smooth line.

Bit waited until the small group of fans had dispersed before he approached, and very awkwardly said hello. Var simply stared for a second as she wondered how exactly to respond.
Eleanor broke the ice first, cawing loudly with open beak at the human man, her wings spread wide. Var shushed her with a few words in Huttese, and the bird fell silent.
"Wasn't expecting to see you again Bit," Var said neutrally, thinking back to the mixed ordeal she'd been through when he'd come to Manaan before.
To begin with he'd fondled her and gotten her fired. Then he'd showed up with a stab wound at her doorstep. She'd treated him, and he'd made breakfast. It still seemed the list of relative services were stacked against him.
Granted there were numerous snide things she could say to him now, but somehow she didn't feel like it. Despite the way he'd behaved at first, he'd apologized. She still wasn't sure what to make of that though. First impressions were so very important.
"Is there something you need, or are you just stopping by to say hello?"

Bit looked at the bird that was on the woman's shoulder, tilting his head ever so slightly in a curious manner. He had no recollection of the bird, so either the twi'lek got her after bit left, or had her the entire time and she was in an off room of Dar's place.
Yea people say the same thing.
Bit smiled slightly, once again thinking back to when they last met once again. He had to try to make up with this woman rather than leave everything hanging bad. There was something about her that he was having trouble placing, and it was nibbling at the back of his head.
I was in the neighborhood. My fighter is in for tests and minor repairs so I decided to check out the track. Hey, why don't you let me take you out when you are finished here?
Random - yes.
Sincere - yes.
Would she say yes: he hoped so. A look of confusion went through Bit's eyes, but not across his face, as his mind tried to comprehend what he was doing. After a moment, he threw all thoughts away and simply decided he wanted to have a little bit of fun and relaxation before he went back to Spearpoint.

Blazinda had wandered within earshot as Bit made his offer, and promptly she started grinning.
"He thinks your preeeeetty, he wants to daaaaate you!" She sang obnoxiously.
Var shot her a vicious glare and the mechanic shut up.
"Sorry boss. I'll just, uh, tinker some more."
Left alone again, the pale Twi'lek woman sighed.
"Look, I really don't want to date you or anything, but if you want to buy me lunch we can go some place and eat. Just know that I'm the wrong tree to bark up."
With that caveat out of the way, Var petted Eleanor one more time before setting the enormous raven back on her perch. Then she made an invitation to Bit.
"You can stay in the pit with Blazinda while I race a few more heats."
As it happened, the second time was considerably harder than the first, possibly because she'd actually had to focus on what she was doing instead of merely doing it. She'd get by though.
Var walked off and got onto her swoop, taking it out to the track again.

Hey now-
Bit didn't finished what he was saying as Var shot the woman a vicious glare to the woman, who instantly bolted from the area, as was probably smart. Even Bit imagined he could feel the heat radiating out of her eyes: he was glad he wasn't on the receiving end. After a sigh, the woman turned back and spoke to him.
Lunch is fine.
Bit watched as the pale woman put her raven back onto her perch, then gave him an invitation
I'll do that then. See you after your heats then.
Bit watched as the pale woman walked off to her swoop, and then make her way to the track again. When she was out of his view, the man, he went completely into the pits, leaning against a workbench and lighting up a cigarette.
What did she mean by barking up the wrong tree.
He was happy he at least got to grab some lunch. She was an new swoop racer making her way quickly up in the ranks, and he was a smuggler turned pirate. She could have easily just said 'no, im good. Have a nice life,' and be done with it. He sighed slightly, expelling smoke from his lungs, and watch the mechanic tinker around with... whatever it was she was working on. He knew spacecrafts and airspeeders much better than he knew smaller crafts such as swoop bikes.

Varulla'aba stopped at the starting line, beginning her third or fourth heat of the day. Blazinda was a good mechanic, and Var knew her Incom swoop was in the best condition. The real limiting factor was her own inexperience.
They changed up the track for every race. This one was also straight like the last, but it had more obstacles and fewer accelerators. She had to rely on her own swoop's rapid acceleration. And she also had to take risks, to risk engine damage by crossing the red line.
Red. Yellow. Green. Go.
Var hit the throttle with everything she had, and the swoop darted forward like an animal whipped, her body feeling distinct G-forces as she took the outside edge of the track.
An accelerator panel. She leaned in and the swoop responded, striking the panel and gaining a boost, then she promptly leaned to the outside and darted back as the swoop accelerated still faster. The red light flashed and still she held the throttle, darting ever faster. She could feel the heat from the engine in her legs.
Var zipped across the finish line and cut the throttle, applying the brake. Then she looked up at the board and saw the time that put her in first, by a good margin. It was enough that she felt confident resting on her laurels.
Returning the swoop to the pits, Var exchanged a few words with Blazinda, giving her carte blanche to do anything to overhaul the swoop to give the engine the ability to safely go over the red line.
Then she returned to Bit.
"All right. Lead on now."
Eleanor cawed at Var, and the Twi'lek kissed the bird on the beak, telling her she had to stay behind. The bird hung her head and flapped dejectedly, but perked up when Var provided her with a leftover piece of meat from lunch.
Then she looked back to Bit and motioned for him to lead.

Bit watched the nearest viewscreen as Var lined up on the track, and started off like she was shot out of a cannon. For a little craft, the swoop went pretty damn fast. Still, Bit had to admit he'd rather be behind the controls of a starfighter or his yacht than on a swoop.
Bit, while not outwardly whooping and cheering, like he heard from the crowd outside the pit area, he did smile, and subbed out his cigarette, as he was at the filter now. He didn't bother lighting up a new one while he checked the scores, seeing as the woman made it to the top of the ranks, by a decent margin. The man waited patiently as the pale skinned woman brought in her swoop, spoke with the mechanic chick, then walked over to where Bit was.
Not bad. I'm curious to see how you would handle a starfighter now.
The woman's raven cawed out, apparently not wanting to be left behind. Bit knew that the woman was speaking Huttese, but didn't know exactly what was being said. At least he learned that she at least knew two languages. He was curious as to which language was her primary now. With her motioning, Bit led the way out of the pits and into the city
He didn't know his way around this city too well, so, he took out hid datapad to make it look like he was checking his messages, but in all reality, was looking at a map of the city for a good place to eat. A minute later, he found a place, about a 10 minute walk from where they were. This would give them a little time to talk before they ate.
So whats the story behind the waitress becoming a swoop star. You couldn't have simply tried out and win the season opener, right?
That would be insane

Bit commented about starfighters, and Var could safely say she didn't know, though she was pretty decent at freighters. She didn't actually respond to the question, as she figured it was rhetorical. Instead she walked in silence until asked a direct question, which was pretty on-point.
"Well actually, I did."
A distinct tone of pride came into Var's silky voice, and she elaborated.
"I borrowed my friend's swoop without asking and entered the season opener. I won. I can't explain how I did it, I simply did."
Of course she knew her sensitivity to the Force had played a part, but she was reluctant to mention that secret to anyone else. She was going to keep it quiet, and close to her chest.
They made it to the restaurant a few minutes later and Var walked through the sliding door and held up two fingers to the receptionist before he could even ask how many.

Bit was silent as his female companion spoke her story about how she became a swoop star. Surprisingly, his little joke was dead on. He had to admit, he was surprised with her, and her tone showed she was very prideful of what she accomplished. He would have been as well.
Well congratulations then. If I didn't know better, I would say it was the force. You're not a Jedi, are you?
Bit kept his voice light and in a joking manner. Despite him trying to keep a more serious demeanor, he couldn't help himself but to crack a joke ever now and then. His demeanor changed as he thought of something else, and couldn't help but glance at the woman out of the corner of his eye.
She doesn't seem like a Jedi, or Sith, but no rookie could win the opener unless they were truly gifted. Maybe I'm wrong on those accounts, and this woman is really just a gifted rider.
The man shook his head slightly, sighing, and, before he knew it, they were at the restaurant. He brought up his hand, but Var was quicker on the draw: He lowered his hand quickly, fallowed the receptionist to their booth, and ordered a drink: a simple water, rather than a beer.

Inside the restaurant, Var ordered a glass of dry white wine, something she'd learned to enjoy in the past few days. It came promptly and she sipped it slowly as she stared out the window at the endless seas of Manaan.
It had been quite a change for her. Quite a change indeed.
She'd never anticipated being this successful in her life. Certainly not successful enough to have a corporate sponsor and a dedicated paid mechanic. Her personal life, alas, wasn't as good. But did that really matter?
While waiting for the waiter to come back to take their full orders, Var tried to make conversation.
"What brings you back to Manaan this time?"

Bit and Var's drinks came quickly, and while the woman sipped on her wine, the man let his water sit. He looked at the woman for a moment, taking in her features for but a second before he let his eyes wander inside the restaurant.
His mind had vanished back into the past: once again, Var reminded him of what he had lost a bare few years ago. He closed his eyes, letting out a small breath, then went to look out the window: and failed, as he was caught halfway turning his head as the woman started up a conversation.
Testing out a fighter on a solo flight and landed for repairs and a check-up. Figured I would, while here, talk to the only person I know.
He chuckled a little bit. It was true: she was the only person he actually new here, if not in the sector, and perhaps even this area of the inner rim.
And look at you, big corporate sponsor, personal mechanic, and a great swoop? I'm envious, you know-
He stopped talking when their waiter came around to take their orders. Bit set his eyes on his white skinned companion, nodding ever so slightly in a silent motion that she should order first.

"That's sad commentary," Var stated in between sips of wine.
She was the only person he knew on an entire planet, and he'd been lonely enough to bother looking her up. That was... Pathetic really. There wasn't a way to really avoid that conclusion.
The waiter arrived, and Var took one final glance at the menu before ordering.
"Rycrit stew," She ordered as she handed the menu back to the waiter.
As it happened, that was one of her favorite foods, and she was always pleased when she found it on the menu at a restaurant. It was traditional Twi'lek fare, like she'd first eaten when she arrived at the Jedi Temple and was told of her heritage.
It was like tasting the home she'd never known, filling, and meaty, and throughly satisfying.
"And breadsticks," Var added as she took another sip of her wine.
She looked to Bit and wondered what he was going to order.

Ill take a nerf steak, medium-rare, and a baked potato, please.
Simple and causal for him. There wasn't a need for anything too extravagant. After the waiter left, the woman resumed talking, saying that the reason he was here was, well, pretty damn pathetic: He agreed completely. The man rubbed the back of his head, smiling slightly.
What can I say. I'm a former smuggler... Never really had a need to make many runs to this planet, and the last time I was here I was shot... We both know the story after that.
Manaan really wasn't a planet for smugglers with how the laws worked on this planet. In fact, that time when he was shot was his second time on this planet, his first when he was on leave from the Republic with some of his boys.
So, where was I... oh yea... big sponsor, mechanic, and swoop.

Var shrugged before saying something she'd never thought she'd hear cross her lips.
"Just lucky I guess."
Who'd have ever thought the little girl from Ryloth with a penchant for failures and troubles would ever grow into a woman with any kind of luck? Truth was, the saying went, stranger than fiction. Var certainly couldn't have written such a change.
Maybe some day her memoirs would be in order. Write a story about her life and see how many people buy it. The sad story of a sad girl? Yes, but also a tale of new hope.
Var thought back to her swoop and the mechanic working on it.
"Blazinda is a great mechanic. Just... bubbly. She has no off-switch. I guess she's kind of like Donnie in a certain way, just... not crazy."
Var finished off her glass of wine and looked out the window again, not sure what to say.

Very lucky I'd say.
Luck was something Bit never had much fortune upon, unless it was bad luck. Nearly kicked out of the Republic Navy, killed on multiple occasions, and now in a pirate group against the Sith? Yea, luck wasn't something that Bit knew.
Don't think I have ever met this Donnie. And Crazy? It takes a certain person to be crazy. Perhaps she, and even Blazinda, are just eccentric, but on different levels. Imagine how they would be if they met.
He looked out the window, watching the ocean waves flow around. It was a beautiful day outside, perfect for flying around. Slowly, a smile spread across his face, and he got a gleam in his eye. He looked at Var, who didn't seem to be having the best time around here... maybe Bit could help that out.
Hey, after this, let me take you out in my fighter. Everyone needs to loosen up and have fun sometimes, and, to me, it seems like you should have some fun. What do you say?
Bet had a half smile set on his face as he leaned back in his seat. Today was an excellent day for a flight, and the views were excellent. Bit preferred a green planet, but the blueness of this planet would, and does, look amazing.

"Sorry," Var said as she remembered he'd never met Donnie. "Doneeda is my roommate and good friend."
After the explanation, the Twi'lek woman stared at her empty wine glass for a few seconds before Bit made a little proposition to her. He asked if she wanted to get into a fighter and fly around for a while, which stuck in her mind for a few reasons.
Was he trying to take her on some kind of first date instead of just being friendly? And why would he even trust her behind the stick of an expensive spacecraft, particularly when she, a lightweight, had just consumed a glass of alcohol?
Var answered as best as she could.
"You do know I just finished a glass of alcohol, and that I'm not exactly the size where it doesn't affect me? If you feel like waiting a couple of hours until it's out of my system I'll give it a try, assuming this isn't some big attempt at a first date or getting into my pants."
The food arrived, and a bowl of brown stew was placed before her, with a basket of breadsticks off to the side. Promptly she dipped in her spoon and carried a steaming mouthful up to her lips, savoring the spicy flavor. She returned the spoon down with a pleased sigh.

I have no problems waiting around for you to sober up. To make a point, the last time I tried to do anything with you, I was drunk, and was shot.
The food arrived, cutting off Bit as his plate was plopped in front of him, his steak and potato steaming. He smiled, pulling his knife and fork out of his napkin, which he laid on his lap. He cut into his steak, the meat releasing its juices. After taking a bite, he added a smidge of salt and pepper, and took another bite, making sure it was just right: it was.
Also, continuing from before, I wouldn't try to get into you're pants... you raven would probably peck my eyes out.
He spoke in a joking manner, but all of it, or at least the first part, was true. He wouldn't try to get into the woman's pants, at least without her consent. This woman seemed more of the type you wanted to hold and comfort if something happened to her at work. He thought of that every-time he saw her green orbs.
The man also left out anything about a date. While he didn't think of this as one, there was no denying that this outing had qualities of it that made is quite similar to one. He hadn't been on a date in some time, so what use was there to start. He would just enjoy his time here. Taking a bite of his potato's he smiled softly, looking out the window and over the sea. He looked back to Var after a moment, a confused look on his face.
Do I really look like someone would try to get into your pants?

"She probably would," Var confirmed as she seized a breadstick and nibbled on the end of it. Eleanor was tough, and very protective of Var. She also had this thing about people who interacted with her. Somehow the bird was able to get a feel for people, and invariably assigned them into either 'good' or 'bad,' with very few neutral. It was easy to tell as those in the bad list had their hands pecked at and merited the sound of alarm, a rather loud cawing noise.
As to the other question...
Var was frequently brutally honest. She could be scathing, and she could be caustic. Yet, it wasn't in a sardonic way that she delivered her opinion. In fact, her tone barely bordered on sarcasm. She was simply being candid when she answered.
"Yes. Do I need to remind you that when we first met you ran your hand along my bare thigh, grabbed my ass, and propositioned me?"
The Twi'lek woman looked him in the eye, her own green ones sending the very clear message that she wasn't about to ever forget that. It was quite clear that her memory was long, and that wrongs against her wouldn't lightly be forgotten.
After a few seconds she broke that eye contact and delved back into her stew, taking a few spoonfuls before dipping a breadstick into the thick liquid and consuming it.
