Name: Atu Soka
Race: Human
Age: 39
Height: 6'1
Weight: 200lbs
Appearance:
A tall human, Soka is muscular but not bulky. He has dark brown eyes and black hair, but usually keeps his head bald to keep away from vanity, the same reason why he is almost always seen in very simple robes. He is a very serious man and usually has a calm yet imposing look on his face. He can appear icy to those who have never met him and most see him as "the guy you don't mess with." simply based on his outward appearance.
Birth place: Daalang
Faction: Jedi
Rank: Former (on hiatus) High Council Member, Jedi Weaponmaster, Master Rank
Bio: Born to a noble family on Daalang, Soka was bred to be a paragon of virtue for his family. Not born of the ruling line, he would merely have served his extended family. From he was young, the first words taught to him were honor, courage, and virtue. As a child, he was noted for being very adept at many things and possessing strange abilities. These abilities were hidden from the world by his parents, shielding him from society. Soka was always watched by stern masters who instilled discipline and order in him. He took to his teachings earnestly and became a well behaved and well mannered child.
He was taught by his mentors on Daalang ways, harsh discipline and order. In one of their exercises of discipline, Soka had to sit outside all night while the winter was at its coldest. He had a jacket placed in front of him and he had to resist wearing it the entire night. He passed the exercise but it nearly cost him his life. Amazed that he passed the first time, he was held in high esteem by his mentors. The young Soka was set to be one of the greatest warriors of Daalang.
One day when a Jedi Knight was sent to Daalang to mediate between Soka's family faction and another Daalang house. It was at that time that the knight sensed the force in the young noble. Despite great opposition from his parents, Atu Soka was taken by the knight back to the Jedi order to be trained in the ways of the force.
The Jedi teachings and training were very similar to those he received on his home world, with the exception of force training of course. He was older than most of the other younglings and the teachers feared he would not have enough time to learn their ways and be chosen as a padawan, and so he was always overlooked and pushed to the side, they figured they would send him to the Jedi Agricultural Core. Soka, however, refused to be pushed aside. He worked hard with the training lightsaber he was given and often times would not go and play with the other children of his class and instead attend other youngling classes to get better. He spent many hours with his training saber and the training droids, often asking passing Jedi for tips. He was devoted to keeping up with the others in his class, although the mentors believed he could not.
He was young and well mannered, but all he wished to be was a Jedi and he would break whatever rules necessary to help him in whatever way. He showed great improvement and was much better than any in his class with a lightsaber, but he was still seen as too ignorant in Jedi history and knowledge of the force to be a real Jedi, much to his disappointment.
He was tweleve, almost thirteen, and had watched almost all his classmates be taken on as apprentices. Outwardly he looked patient and understanding, but he yearned to be taught the Jedi ways as a padawan. As providence would have it, he encountered the Jedi who brought him to the temple and was asked if he had a master. Soka told him no and the Jedi decided to take him on. That Jedi was a little known master named Haru Jinn, an Alderaan native and rare practitioner of Jar’kai. Together they would embark on a series of adventures that made Soka the man he is today.
His master gave him his first lightsaber, an orange blade of no particular uniqueness. He was very grateful and took great pains to ensure that he would never lose it. With his new blade in hand, the two Jedi were sent on a standard rescue mission, several Republican scientists were stranded on an unnamed moon doing work that could not be made public. Something went wrong and the Jedi were asked to retrieve the data, and he scientists if they could. Soka was happy to finally go on a mission, although he did not expect any excitement based on the nature of the mission. As he slept on the way there he had a strange dream about chaos and suffering, he was deeply disturbed and told his master of his dream. Haru noted it as he began their descent down to the moon base. As they landed they were greeted by and eerie silence. The two left their transport and walked about the base finding almost no one. Then it dawned on Soka, why had they sent Jedi for a mission like this? His master smiled and told him that he was finally starting to think like a Jedi. As they examined the base, they found out that the Republic was experimenting with Crystals, several of them rare and useful for lightsaber construction. Soka slipped two purple crystals in his robe that he was almost drawn to. The crystals seemed to be attuned to him, they felt so right to hold, so despite his hesitation to take them, he did so anyway. After examining the base it became apparent that the base was attacked by creatures wielding lightsabers and much of the data at the site was corrupted, including the security films, making it impossible to discover the nature of their assault.
His master was pleased with his progress and noticed his abilities with a lightsaber. One day as Soka was training alone in his room in the temple, Haru and a Jedi Weaponmaster entered the room and informed Soka that he was to be trained by the Jedi Weaponmaster for some time on the reconstructed Dantooine Enclave. Soka left with this new temporary master for Dantooine to learn advanced techniques of lightsaber combat and the various marks of combat.
Soka studied with this master for almost a year, experimenting with the various styles finding out which form was best suited for him. He found Ataru to be extremely well suited for him, and he planned to make that his main form until the master handed him two sabers and told him to practice with them, stating his wish to carry on the Jar’Kai form with a new generation. This he found to his liking more than the others. He was agile and ambidextrous so he was almost a natural at the form. He set himself to train with this style along with Ataru in order to pass the knight trials. At the completion of his training on Dantooine, he was sent back to the Jedi temple on Coruscant and resumed his training as a Padawan.
After his training on Dantooine, Soka and his master were sent on another mission, this time to Soka’s home world of Daalang. It seemed the factions were again on the verge of war and a cousin of Soka was captured and being held hostage.
Haru and Soka left for Daalang shortly after receiving the distress call, traveling via intergalactic transport so as not to attract attention to themselves and retain secrecy in their mission. Blending in with the crowd, Haru and soka landed in a dusty docking bay and slipped out from the port and began their mission in search of Soka’s cousin. Haru was at first apprehensive about bringing Soka back to his home planet, especially on a mission to save a family member, he was put at ease by Soka’s focus on his mission. Soka’s focus and determination were traits that Haru found to be his best qualities and those that he would try to portray to the council when he would bring Soka for knighting.
The two were able to sneak into the home of the rival faction and with successful employment of stun weapons and hand-to-hand combat, the pair rescued Soka’s cousin and then set out to mediate between the two factions once again. While on Daalang, Soka reconnected with his family and became friendly with them. In the future he would often return to Daalang and visit, eventually enabling himself to work closely with them.
After several such missions, Soka was knighted and constructed his first saber using the two purple crystals he found. After being knighted he was sent to investigate rumors of a recently discovered ancient ruins, long hidden due to a planetary war that buried the site. While he was there he came upon the temple library and studied many of its secrets. There he learned the secrets of the old wars, he believed that Revan and the hero once visited the same site.
He traveled back to Coruscant to learn the secrets of Battle Meditation, after learning of its importance during the Jedi Civil War. He spent weeks in that temple studying and training. Afterwards, he filed his report and left. He would then spend the rest of his life in search of battle techniques from across the galaxy, not taking on a padawan.
His years of practice with his lightsabers gave his a mastery with the blades unknown to most. He left for his home planet and began working closely with them, eventually being assigned as a planetary bodyguard for whoever needed him and worked closely with the representative in the senate. Many times he would risk himself in the defense of planetary representatives and notables.
While on his home planet, he saw the style of melee weaponry unique to them and sought to replicate it in his sabers, reconstructing them using materials given to him by his home world. While working with his home world he gained a great deal of battlefield experience, commanding many of their warriors against bands of raiders and marauders.
Soka returned to the Jedi order, intent on mastering his forms with the greatest teachers of the order. He first set to mastering Jar’kai. A Faleen master took him on. Inside the Jedi training complex, Soka would be pushed to his extremes, working day and night. All his sensed were tested. His master would not let him rest, forcing him to sleep inside the training complex so that his senses could be put to the test at all times. He could be attacked at any moment and he had to be ready for it. At first it looked as though the regimen was too harsh but his determination and focus would not accept defeat. He began to catch on, and his senses were heightened at all times. He felt his enemies through the force, his danger senses were well tuned. He spent several months in the training complex, receiving training and increasingly difficult tasks to put it to use.
When he finally left the complex, he had a great deal of battle experience and a mastery of Jar’kai known only to masters. It was at this time that he chose to set himself on the path of a Weaponmaster, largely at the urging of several masters.
As a man on a mission, Soka would not stop until he had mastered several more forms. He sought out masters from across the galaxy to train him in their art and set him on the path to perfect his fighting. He found himself particularly interested in Ataru and Makashi, believing those to be very elegant and useful forms for a Swordsman. He sought at least a basic understanding of all the forms but focused on few.
After several years of training, a case was being made for his promotion to master rank and recognition for the title of Weaponmaster. The council told him, however, that he had to first train a padawan if he sought a master rank. He knew that he would eventually have to but he had worked so hard on personal perfection, that he had neglected his duty to pass on his knowledge to a new generation. He went down to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine to find a potential student to take on as his Padawan. He found a Twi’lek who was twelve and much overlooked, similar to his position as a youngling. An instant connection was felt and Soka was compelled to take this youngling as his padawan.
The Padawan’s name was Bib Gella and he had a great desire to follow his master’s footsteps as a guardian and potentially a Weaponmaster. They left Ossus almost immediately. Soka wished to take the young Padawan to see the temple on Courscant and meet some of the prominent Jedi of the order.
While there at the temple, Soka found a report on raider activity in the Outer Rim. He believed this might be a little too difficult for his new padawan, but thought it would be important for him to see a real mission and to know what to expect. The mission seemed routine enough, go to the Outer Rim and investigate, then break up the raiders by scaring them off, usually just by the presence of his lightsaber.
While investigating, Soka left Bib inside a shopping plaza while he spoke with a lead in secrecy. Bib was, however, not content with sitting idle and so began his own “investigation”. He began asking all the wrong questions to the wrong people. Their presence became known and Bib was followed as he looked around. The raiders eventually captured Bib and held him hostage. Soka had to pull all his strings and use all his contacts to find the raiders as soon as possible. In a feat of extreme ability, he was able to sneak into the complex and rescue Bib, but Bib sought to get vengeance and tried to fight the raiders. The rescue turned into a brawl as Soka was forced to fight his way out. He slew many of the raiders before the rest fled and he was able to leave the compound unscathed. His relations with Bib though were soured. Bib could not understand why fighting should not be the first recourse when they had such an advantage over their enemies.
Soka tried to explain to him proper Jedi etiquette and the meaning of their code. Bib still did not seem to grasp it, and for many years the relationship between Bib and his master was simply that, a formal teacher-student relationship with no particular friendship between them. Soka was not sure about Bib’s candidacy for knighthood but his young padawan seemed to catch on later in life, and he showed great shrewdness in diplomacy and skill in battle. Under these characteristics, Soka submitted Bib for Knighthood. Soka’s judgment was accepted without much examination and Bib was made a knight of the Jedi order.
Free of obligations to a Padawan, Soka began teaching basic lightsaber combat and the marks of combat to younglings and curious padawans at Courscant. He also sought to improve his own abilities. He spent several years in this role as a mentor to young padawans and younglings until he was approached by the council to finally be recognized as a master and be granted the title of Jedi Weaponmaster. Soon after he was approached to sit on the Council as a temporary member and potentially a permanent addition to the council.
As reports of the new “Sith Alliance” streamed in, Bib was selected to investigate the new Alliance and try to come to some peace agreement, however the Knight did not foster peace, he was tempted over to the Alliance and left the order. Soka took this as a personal failure and left the council and unofficially, the order. He went into self imposed exile on Daalang and served as a secondary representative to the Senate for a short term before retiring to a small home on Daalang. When war broke out, Soka left for the front lines, hoping to help in anyway he could although he was still shaken in his judgment, especially of a person’s character.
Finally mastering his power of Battle Meditation, Soka served many times in the battles against the Sith and Mandalorians, however he usually got there too late as the wars on the different sides of the galaxy are hard to fight at one time. Usually he was able to help coordinate a strategic retreat and inflict some damage on the enemy before leaving. Finally coming out of a semi-self-imposed exile, He now seeks to persuade the Jedi to fight whole heartedly in this war for fear of a repetition of history, he fears a rift in the order as had happened long ago. He also seeks a commission with the Republic to gain command of an army to help stop this new threat to liberty.

Fear, pain, suffering, chaos, and hatred. He had felt these same feelings before. They surged over him and he was nearly enveloped by them. He sat calmly and meditated, trying to reach out with his mind to fully understand the feelings, although he did not have to look far. He had felt these same feelings before and they could only mean one thing - war. Another battle was raging nearby in the galaxy and it did not look good. He went deeper into the force trying to find the true nature of the engagement, so much so that he became oblivious to the world around him in a very uncharacteristic state. He did not notice when an aid came into the room. The aid watched him meditate for some time before mustering the courage to break the trance, “Master Soka, a distress signal was just intercepted. I believe you will want to see this.”
Soka’s trance was broken and he sighed before standing. He knew what the message would be about, he just needed to know where it came from. Without a word he made his way across the ship, the doors hissing as they opened for him. The ship was lavishly decorated and the inside was colored with a golden hued metal and lavish red rugs lined in gold trim. Soka cared little for the décor, but Daalang had provided him with this ship and he didn’t refuse. As he passed through the main chamber of the ship, the tranquil fountain in the center of the room could be heard. An artificial environment had allowed several plants to adorn the walls of the room between the chairs and tables of the room. The pair entered the command room where various holograms could be seen, maps, charts, information, etc. The one that interested Soka however, was the communications console. He examined the console carefully reading the distress call sent out by the Republican commander requesting all nearby units to aid in the defense. Soka could no longer do nothing. He had been acting independently for years, and felt no need to gain any permission from the order.
He looked to his navigator and said calmly, “Set a course to the location of this distress signal, I want us to be there as soon as possible.”
With that he left the command room of this ship and made his way back to his meditation chamber. Before him he placed his lightsaber hilts and went back into deep meditation. He would finally step back into the Jedi role he once had and after this battle, he knew he had to return to the order and plea for help in this war. While never considering himself anything but a Jedi, he had been gone for some time training himself.
