((Forgive me if I didn't balance some of the abilities and attributes out as much as they should be; I tried to do my best for a first-time profile. Anyway, thanks for looking at my char!))
Faction: Jedi
Rank: Jedi Knight/Sentinel
Occupation: Shadow
Name: Zin Shal'tor
Species: Miraluka
Age: 31 (as of 3601 BBY)
Birth Place: Alpheridies
Height: 5' 8”
Weight: 177 lbs.
Appearance: Zin is a bit short for a Miraluka, but he has a wiry strength that belies his stature. He has slightly darker skin than normal for his species, unassuming features, and earth-brown hair that he prefers to keep cropped short. He has a scar on the his face that starts at the edge of his right eyebrow and crosses diagonally to the left, going down over the bridge of his nose to end in the middle of his right cheek.
Zin wears form-fitting robes of a dull white color, and his standard Jedi overcloak is navy. He wears a specially crafted, form-fitting piece of armor over his eye sockets and forehead that is a dark gunmetal grey. His robes resembles a mix of this, this, and this.
His slightly curved lightfoil is ornate, and has a basket guard at the top to prevent the user's hand from being harmed by energy emissions. Being a lightfoil, it is only large enough to be wielded in one hand. Technically, it is a lightsaber cane as well, but with a lightfoil instead of the standard lightsaber at the top of the cane; it is a telescoping piece of equipment, which means it can extend and retract at Zin's command, allowing it to be concealed easier when he is on missions.
Personality: Zin is usually in a cheerful mood, and can be very facetious at times. As opposed to himself when he was younger, he isn't as closed off from the world, and now actually quite likes to socialize with others. However, he is very observant, and knows when and when not to speak, but even then, he is often blunt. He has a strong sense of honor and justice, and still very much dislike those who renege on promises or who are dishonest on a regular basis.
He strives to make a difference in the galaxy, and desires to be recognized and remembered as someone who helped keep the peace. Despite that, he isn't overly attention seeking, nor does he socially dominate any rooms he is in. He fears little, and is almost always in control of his emotions, but he does fear innocents or those closest to him being harmed or killed, and the possibility that he could have stopped it from happening.

Bio:
Born to Aera Shal'tor, a single mother who was ex-Republic Military, Zin was moved throughout the galaxy quite frequently even as a toddler due to Aera's nomadic lifestyle. Shortly after his fourth birthday, whether by fate, the will of the Force, or just total coincidence, he and his mother were on the same passenger ship as a Jedi Master who was searching for likely Force Sensitive candidates when pirates ambushed their vessel.
Aera was fatally wounded during the assault by an incendiary grenade, while the Jedi, Quentas-Lir, managed to single-handedly fend off the attackers when they boarded. In the aftermath, he saw Aera's body in front of Zin in an attempt to shield him from harm. The Draethos Jedi sensed the Force potential in the child, and as there was no one to vouch for him or take him in, Quentas-Lir took Zin to Corusant, where he would begin training to be a Jedi himself.
As a Youngling, Zin proved to have better reflexes than a lot of other children during training. The blast shield, so often utilized to make Younglings attune themselves to the Force in order to deflect training bolts, was of course unneeded with Zin, given that he was a Miraluka. He enjoyed studying, especially about past Jedi exploits.
Early on, he made a friend in Aras Celaran, a Zelosian. Unfortunately, Aras was somewhat of a mean-spirited child, and through his actions caused Zin to go into a shell as a sort of defense mechanism to cope. He turned into the lone, awkward Youngling who preferred to be by himself, and didn't like to socialize with others. After this, he was often stubborn with teachers, but he would eventually concede to their point of view in time.
Two other Younglings he was basically acquaintances with reached out to befriend him. Nieri Furrow, an Epicanthix, and Dray Sirin, a Zabrak, soon managed to make friends with him. This started the process of his reemerging to become a happier and more sociable person, though this wouldn't really happen until roughly a decade later.
The Jedi who had originally brought him to the Temple, Quentas-Lir, a Draethos, took the young Miraluka as his Padawan when Zin was twelve. Quentas-Lir instilled a powerful sense of honor within Zin during the latter's training. Zin looked up to Quentas-Lir and pretty much hung on every word he spoke. Quentas-Lir respected Zin for his fully committed points of view once he had established them, and learned from Zin that sometimes getting straight to the point is needed in some situations. He also started the process of making Zin more sociable and diplomatic. Quentas-Lir, being a master at Makashi, taught his Padawan the basics of the dueling form; Zin would later master Makashi himself.
During the duo's first diplomatic mission a year and a half after Zin became a Padawan, they mutually agreed that Quentas-Lir should do most of the talking, lest Zin accidentally cause an interplanetary incident by being overly blunt and disrespectful. Throughout the rest of Zin's training, they usually went on diplomatic or investigatory missions, though they were sometimes sent on actual combat-oriented missions.
Their second mission involved looking into a dispute between business partners on Kuat. While trying to mediate the matter, Quentas-Lir uncovered files detailing a covert slave trade connecting several planets in the Republic which the business partners were part of. They, along with local authorities, arrested the partners and started a mass investigation into the discovered slave trade.
Several months after this, Quentas-Lir and Zin were targeted by the last uncaught members of the slave trade, who sent assassins after the duo. They barely avoided being killed, and as they were in the Mid Rim finishing another assignment, they tracked the location of the assassins' orders to Ord Mantell. There, they found and arrested two of the three slavers, but the third was killed by his own reflected blaster bolt he fired at Quentas-Lir.
Just before Zin turned fifteen, they helped mediate a dispute on Cato Nemoidia that involved Duros ambassadors and potential fraud; luckily, nothing as drastic as accidentally discovering a large, underground slave trade happened this time, though they did find out that one of the Nemoidians was attempting to sabotage the talks and subsequently turned him over to the authorities to deal with.
Finally, when Zin was fifteen, the day came that he was taken to Ilum to choose his lightsaber crystal and begin the creation process. Inside the cave structures, he located a crystal which he almost instantly felt a connection with. He harvested it, and about a month later, had finished constructing his lightsaber. It was a simple, curved design, built for elegance in dueling.
Shortly after he created his lightsaber, Zin and Quentas-Lir investigated a small group of psychotic Verpine that were killing and sabotaging whatever they could get to in the Roche system, as the local law enforcement was having trouble locating them. Once the Jedi reached the Verpine's location, they were violently rebuffed and forced to chase the criminals all the way to Raxus Prime. There, they killed three of the insectoid aliens in self-defense before incapacitating the others and taking them back to Roche to be jailed there.
For the next few years, they sporadically went on missions, as they just weren't needed as much at the time. However, they finally did go on an assignment along with another Jedi to follow a lead on a dangerous Dark Jedi that had fled to Wayland. Quentas-Lir allowed Zin to come along with him and the Jedi Shadow in order to investigate rumors of a Dark Jedi on Weyland, though he strongly advised caution. They located the powerful Dark Side user and fought him in a short but intense battle, culminating in the fallen Jedi's death by triple impalement.
One of the only two missions the duo went on together for the following couple years was to Shili in order to search for Force Sensitive Togruta while a replacement Watchman was selected, since the previous one died of old age. They did actually manage to recruit a few Force Sensitive Togruta children during the five month period, after which they were recalled to the Temple after the newly appointed Watchman arrived.
The second was to discover who had put a bounty out on a Jedi. They ended up on Nar Shaddaa, where Quentas-Lir hired an information broker to give them what they sought. When the broker acquiesced, they found that the person who had created the bounty was a Dark Jedi. They followed his trail to Malastare, where they fought him together. After they were nearly overpowered. Quentas-Lir clouded the Dark Jedi's Force sense, so that he was not aware what the Draethos was doing. The two renewed their effort and drove the Dark Jedi back and right into the path of a pod racer. Needless to say, the results were not pretty.
When Zin was nearing the age of twenty, they went to look into sightings of a Dark Jedi on Riflor. What Quentas-Lir found proved to be much more than he had anticipated, for he had discovered the existence of a small cabal of Dark Jedi who had existed for quite some time, and were responsible for more than a hundred Jedi deaths in the past sixty-odd years. Unfortunately, before Quentas-Lir could get the information back to the High Council, he was ambushed by the Dark Jedi they had been chasing.
Zin heard the sounds of battle and rushed to help his master, and it seemed like they were holding off the Dark Jedi. Then, the Feeorin stunned Quentas-Lir with a brutal Force push, and turned all of his wrath on Zin. To his credit, Zin held off the Dark Jedi for almost ten seconds before his lightsaber was cut in two, he was stabbed in the side of the abdomen, then kicked away. Quentas-Lir sprang at the Feeorin to defend Zin, but he used Memory Walk on the Jedi Master, disabling him. The Dark Jedi, arrogant in his sadism, tortured Quentas-Lir for a few minutes with lightning and Memory Walk before he grew bored and decided to kill the Draethos.
As the Dark Jedi lifted his lightsaber over his head to kill Quentas-Lir, Zin jumped on him and called upon the Force as much as he could. In a second, the Feeorin's lightsaber had been jerked down, bisecting his head. Dead instantly, the Dark Jedi's body fell to the ground, Zin falling with him. While he lied unconscious next to the Dark Jedi's corpse and his Master's unmoving body, someone had alerted the law enforcement, who came in and brought the Jedi to a hospital.
There, once Zin had recovered, he learned that Quentas-Lir was in a coma and would remain so for a few years. Unfortunately, the next Jedi who came to investigate discovered that the data Quentas-Lir had found was corrupted or otherwise destroyed, meaning no one who could act on the information knew of the Dark Jedi group.
Zin was devastated when Quentas-Lir did not wake, even though it was against the Jedi Code to develop attachments. He became even more distant than he had during his early years as a Youngling, and focused his efforts into becoming better so he could better protect himself and others from occurrences like that.
In the wake of Quentas-Lir's condition, it was decided that Zin should gain a new Master with whom to work with for the last couple years of his apprenticeship--after he created a new lightsaber for himself, of course. Before he constructed his new lightsaber, he looked through the archives briefly, but he did so just long enough to find a lightsaber design that was a few hundred years old. It was seldom used, but it fit his style perfectly. He went to Ilum to harvest a new crystal, this time a bright yellow one. Then, after more than a month, he had created his very own lightfoil.
Zin worked with Jedi Knight Hartun Kei, a Shadow most of the time, for the remainder of his training years, but he never developed the same rapport with Kei like he did with Quentas-Lir. The first of their assignments together was to protect a witness whose testimony would help put the kingpin of a large crime syndicate in prison. The Jedi warded off mercenaries hired to silence the witness, managing to kill and/or disable almost thirty of them before Republic soldiers arrived to push the mercenaries back.
The second mission was to hunt down a psychotic Dark Side user who was a skilled assassin and had murdered two other Jedi. They cornered the assassin on Alderaan, but not before he could take out a diplomat visiting the planet. He viciously retaliated against them, but he was overcome by their combined battle prowess. Zin experienced a moment of rage when the assassin was attempting to flee, cutting into the man repeatedly with his lightsaber until his body was a smoking mess.
Then, once Zin was twenty-two, he was ready to become a Jedi Knight. Since he'd showed Skill and Courage in fighting the Dark Jedi, and felt pain of the Flesh when he was almost killed by the Feeorin, all that remained was the Trial of the Spirit. A vision was induced and overseen by a Council member while he was meditating. Zin witnessed his potential for good, but also the potential if he turned. He had a simmering rage within himself, and he could care too much. Both could plunge him fully into the depths of the Dark Side if he gave in to them. At the end, he watched a dark, future version of himself cutting down all those who stood before him, his morals twisted and corrupted into the figure.
Once the vision was finished, Zin, frightened by the image of him as a powerful Dark Jedi, decided that he would never let such a thing come to pass. He worked on controlling his emotions even more, so that his anger would not emerge. He was dubbed a fully-fledged Knight, his Padawan braid was severed, and he soon gained a main occupation as a Shadow, though he also worked as an Investigator when the need came up.
Zin's first assignment about six months after becoming a Knight was to locate a Dark Jedi who had been wreaking no small amount of havoc on Malastare. His partner during this mission and many to come was Nieri Furrow, who had become a Shadow herself upon reaching the rank of Knight. Together, they tracked down the the Dark Jedi and knocked him out after a prolonged chase and subsequent fight. He was injured during the battle, and so crafted an addition to his lightsaber, specifically a cane. It helped him recover from the wound, but he would favor its use to the present, as he learned to utilize it in combat.
As they would often work together on assignments, Nieri was able to help Zin reconcile with his emotions and gain control of them. Her influence allowed the Miraluka to ultimately deny his rage and therefore the Dark Side a relatively short time later.
Their next mission a few months later involved following the trail of a supposed Sith Holocron from the Jedi Civil War-era that was being sold on the black market at Nar Shaddaa. Zin and Nieri fought a pair of Dark Jedi who sought to take the holocron for themselves. In the end, they never found out whether or not the holocron was real, as the ship it was on malfunctioned and careened into a star. The Dark Jedi refused to be taken in, and so the Knights killed them in a duel.
Suddenly, more than three years after Quentas-Lir had been tortured into a coma, he awoke. Unfortunately, he had amnesia and could not remember Zin or the information on the Dark Jedi group he had discovered on Riflor. In another cruel twist, the torture he had been subjected to changed his personality from a kind, wise, sage-like Jedi to a cold, indifferent, quick to anger Draethos.
Then, it seemed like there was hope, for a few months after Quentas-Lir awoke, he began to remember parts in his past. Of course, the Dark Jedi group heard of this. Fearful that he might expose them, they dispatched one of their own to assassinate Quentas-Lir. A week later, Zin witnessed Quentas-Lir murdered by a Barabel wielding a lightsaber. He raced after the Dark Jedi and cut him across the face before the Barabel could fully react. The Dark Jedi blasted Zin away before fleeing, but he swore to find him and avenge his Master.
Sure enough, after going through some of his shady connections and various Temple databanks, he learned that the Dark Jedi was called Kivak, and that he would be leaving the next day. He went to the hangar Kivak's ship was in with two other Shadows, then attacked. Through cunningly placed traps and his own strategies, he killed one of the Shadows and wounded the other.
Zin came on in a rage, and the scales seemed to tip at the end of their fight when Kivak cut the Miraluka's face in an almost ironic twist of fate. Unfortunately for the Dark Jedi, Zin quickly retaliated and overpowered him through sheer force of will. He was very tempted to kill him out of anger, but he realized that doing so would put him dangerously close to the Dark Side, if not push him down completely.
So, he let serenity flow, extinguishing his rage. He offered to let Kivak surrender and live, but the Dark Jedi answered in the form of a dagger to Zin's chest. As the Barabel lunged in from behind, Zin took up the Dark Jedi's lightsaber and impaled him through the heart. Kivak was dead, and Quentas-Lir was avenged.
Zin was granted a month of rest so he could deal with the death of Quentas-Lir and recover from his most recent wound, then went right back into the action. He, Nieri, and another pair of Shadows tracked a splinter group of Mandalorian terrorists to Belderone. There, they fought the highly-trained soldiers and killed most of them. In return, one of the other two Shadows fighting alongside Zin and Nierri was shot by a rocket and killed, while the other three Jedi received their own share of injuries from the battle.
As they were heading back to the Temple, their ship was hijacked by a Dark Jedi who killed the third Shadow, severely wounded Nieri, and knocked Zin unconscious. Upon waking up a few minutes later, Zin concealed his presence in the Force and moved towards the cockpit of the freighter. In a quick fight, he disarmed the Dark Jedi and stabbed him in the throat, killing him instantly.
While Nieri was being healed at the Temple, Zin continued to do his job. His next assignment was to follow the trail of a bounty hunter who had killed two Jedi to Mygeeto. He eventually located the Dashade's hideout along with two other bounty hunters working with him. Zin killed the Dashade and one of his partners in the ensuing fight, and left the other alive but unconscious for questioning later.
A shortage of true combat missions occurred for a while, during which he was assigned to be a companion to Master Grev Anaan, a Kel Dor, as a Force Sensitive child recruiter. They mainly worked along the Mid and Outer Rims, from Ryloth to Iridonia They brought in seventeen children during their tenure together, including a Trianii, Falleen, and even a Chiss.
About a year after he started working with Master Anaan, Zin was reassigned to work with Master Jevir Notral, a Zabrak, in training sessions for Padawans and, at times, Younglings. He taught alongside Jevir for almost half a year, after which he was again reassigned, this time back to being a full-time Shadow.
His first mission after he finished being a Teaching Assistant was one that had track down the location of a Dark Jedi who had escaped Republic custody. The trail lead him to Kessel, where he was ambushed by two Dark Jedi in the Spice Mines. They captured and tortured him before selling him into slavery on Nal Hutta.
For the seven months that he was a slave, he mostly became a gladiator of sorts in a Hutt's arena. Fortunately, he was granted the use of his lightsaber so as to provide the best show for the audience. He fought almost constantly against other gladiators and various kinds of deadly, exotic wildlife, such as Nexus, Wampas, and even a Hssiss.
Finally, after seven months, Zin managed to slip aboard a transport ship up to Nar Shaddaa. There, he got some transport back to Kessel. He doggedly followed the Dark Jedi duo's trail for another month and a half to Mon Calamari, Iego, then Zeltros, where the two had settled for the time being. Once he reached the Dark Jedi, he waited until they separated to go to different places. The first was in a casino, and Zin blended with the crowd until he was right behind the man, then impaled him. He slipped away from the table and out to a massive swimming pool that could more accurately be described as a lake.
At the pool and unswayed by the rampant pheromones of the native Zeltrons, he killed the ex-convict Dark Jedi with a quick slash through the throat. Once the law enforcement arrived to deal with the situation, he explained that the two he had killed were Dark Jedi, and that he was a Jedi himself. The Zeltrons discerned that he was not lying, but they contacted the High Council to be sure. After the discussion, the Zeltrons were convinced.
Zin chartered a ship back to Corusant, where he was permitted a leave of rest for a month. His next mission after this was to investigate someone who claimed they were an all-mighty Sith descended from Darth Revan on Taris. It turned out that the man was mostly just a raving lunatic with a penchant for Force lightning, but since he was too dangerous to be taken prisoner, Zin killed him after a painful Force battle.
The Knight didn't go on many noteworthy missions for the next two and a half years, save for the one where he went undercover in Corusant's undercity to follow an ex-Jedi who recently went rogue. He worked for several months to uncover the now Dark Jedi's location, but having had extensive connections before he turned to the Dark Side, it was extraordinarily difficult to locate the man. Eventually, he did manage to find the rogue Jedi, but Zin was attacked by his allies before he could reach him. He fought them off and followed the fleeing Dark Jedi, then used his lightsaber to cut through his target's vehicle, disabling it. The Dark Jedi perished in the ensuing crash, and Zin barely escaped the remainder of the man's allies with his life.
After this, he again became a Force Sensitive child recruiter, this time by himself. Zin mainly worked throughout the Inner Rim and Expansion Region for several months, until he was well into his thirtieth year. He recruited fewer children than the last time he had been a recruiter, but he did a fairly good job considering he had only half the time as he did before and was traveling by himself. In total, he recruited nine children, including a Camaasi and Togruta.
The last mission he went on included venturing to his homeworld of Alpheridies along with Niera and three other Shadows in an effort to neutralize a Dark Side sect holed up on the planet. They fought the eight Dark Jedi in prolonged combat, during which two of the other Shadows and all of the Dark Jedi were killed. Zin was critically wounded, but was kept alive by Nieri and the third living Jedi with them.
As of the present, he has fully recovered from the fight on Alpheridies, and somewhat eagerly awaits his next assignments.

Jedi Knight Zin Shal'tor knelt at the edge of a wall, making sure to keep himself obscured through the Force while he scanned the environment for his target. His sight settled on a lone person, walking briskly towards a freighter that was preparing to take off. Upon closer examination, the tall figure positively radiated an aura of malevolence.
“That's Kivak.” Zin said over the COM, left hand holding his lightsaber cane right below the basket guard at the top of the actual lightfoil. “Do you have line of sight to the target?”
“Yes.” The other two Knights replied, already in position in the hangar.
“Move up and take him down.” Zin growled, main hand clenching in barely controlled anger. “I don't want him to get away. Not again.”
With that, the Miraluka Jedi went around the corner and sprinted for the Dark Jedi, footsteps silent as he neared rapidly. Somehow, Kivak did manage to notice his presence. He whirled, one hand pulling out an automatic blaster and firing at the Knight. Zin, having powerful precognition, was already diving behind a stack of crates for cover when the bolts whizzed towards him.
A Shadow rushed up from Kivak's left, orange lightsaber activating and whirling to deflect oncoming bolts. Kivak clenched his left hand, telekinetically grabbing the Jedi's foot and making him falter as he ran. He switched quickly to semi-automatic and fired thrice, hitting the Jedi only once in the abdomen. Kivak pressed a button on his wristpad as he turned on the second Shadow coming up from his right. An explosion shook the floor as a mine detonated, all but vaporizing the first Jedi Shadow.
The second Shadow attempted to Force push Kivak, but he blocked the ability with a sweep of his hand. He brought his other forearm up and launched a streak of lightning at the Jedi. The Shadow deflected the surge of energy with his lightsaber, but he was halted and driven to his knees by the power of the lightening.
When Zin nimbly hopped over the crates and whipped his now-activated lightfoil at Kivak, the Dark Jedi was forced to stop his lightning barrage and roll away or lose his head. Zin and a slightly limping Shadow came in, lightsabers slashing furiously. Kivak, adept at defending against multiple opponents, drew his lightsaber and rapidly blocked and dodged their attacks.
When Kivak's saber went to the left to block two thrusts from the Jedi, Zin spun to the right and whipped his cane around to hit the back of the Dark Jedi's head with a crack. Kivak staggered forward slightly, parrying a slash from the other Shadow before turning to face the two. He came around just in time to get hurled back by a Force push from Zin. His cloak ripped off, revealing the reptilian face of a Barabel. He rolled back through the air and slid to a stop, hissing angrily.
When the Shadow came in, lightsaber a blur as it slashed from multiple angles, Kivak blocked all of the strikes and whirled, tail coming around to club the Jedi in the back of the knees, knocking him to the ground. Zin telekinetically threw a box of tools at Kivak, but he nimbly cut the object in two before turning tail--literally--and running further into the hangar.
“Split up!” Zin snarled at the Shadow as he sprinted after Kivak, the Force aiding his speed. He went directly after Kivak, while the Shadow flanked to the left. After several seconds of winding through an almost maze-like stack of various crates, he barely had enough time to raise a protective barrier around himself and jump forward as a mine went off. He rolled to a stop, slightly dazed by the concussive force.
The Shadow rushed out into the open at Kivak, a blast of telekinetic energy leading the way. Kivak retorted by lashing out with lightning, slowing the Jedi. He formed a ball of hardened air in his other hand, then launched it at the preoccupied Jedi. The Shadow grunted as the kinetite crunched into his ribcage, cracking bones and knocking him off his feet. He was immediately enveloped in a veritable wave of lightning and thrown back several meters, his robes now full of blackened holes while smoke wafted up from his prone form.
Zin had regained his senses by then, and immediately unleashed a Force blast straight at Kivak. The Dark Jedi snarled and narrowly dodged the attack before retaliating with a bolt of lightning. Zin deactivated his lightfoil and reached out a hand to intercept the crackling Force electricity. He grunted in exertion, but managed to hold the Barabel's fury at bay for a moment. With a wordless scream, he deflected the lightning back at Kivak, who used his lightsaber to block most of the bolts while hopping to the side in order to dodge the rest.
Zin reached out through the Force to take hold of a pair of crates and throw them at Kivak before he charged at the Dark Jedi. Kivak blasted one away and dodged around the other just in time to block Zin's first right to left slash. The Knight brought his cane up to slam in between Kivak's legs, then skipped back as the Barabel swung his lightsaber around in desperation, snarling in pain. He quickly came back in, lightfoil rapidly poking at Kivak's midsection. The Barabel jerked away, lightsaber barely warding off the quick stabs.
In a fast rush of movement, Zin lunged forward, lightfoil coming down in a powerful slash. He deactivated the weapon as Kivak moved his lightsaber up to block, then spun to the right. With his cane in a “reverse” grip, he brought it around so the bottom jabbed into the back of the Barabel's left knee. The force made Kivak drop to his knee in a hiss of surprise. When Zin came around, now on Kivak's right side, he continued to spin, lightfoil coming up and knocking the Dark Jedi's lightsaber to Zin's left. He continued to spin, creating momentum so that when his cane, now with the bottom part in his grip, came around to hit Kivak in the side of the jaw, it did so with more force.
Sharp teeth flew out of Kivak's mouth, and he roared in pain when the yellow lightfoil tip came around and penetrated his clothing, burning a few centimeters into his abdomen. He fell back to avoid being impaled, a desperate Force push warding Zin off for the moment. He rolled backwards onto his feet so he was facing Zin as the Knight came forward, lightfoil feigning a slash at the Barabel's neck before rotating to the left in order to swipe at Kivak's ribs.
Kivak's lightsaber spun to the right in order to parry the attack, after which he kicked out. Zin spun with the parry before vaulting over Kivak, lightfoil stabbing down at Kivak. Unbalanced when his kick didn't connect, the Dark Jedi ducked low and dove into a roll, coming up a second later to turn and launch a stream of lightning at Zin. The Knight blocked it with his lightfoil while sprinting at his foe, then Force pushed in return. Kivak warded it off, then came forward and moved his lightsaber low to block Zin's right to left slash.
The Dark Jedi brought his lightsaber up over his head, in the process making Zin lean back to avoid being cut by the blade. Before Zin could regain proper balance, Kivak stepped forward quickly and slashed down, the Force empowering his strike. The blow jarred Zin when he tried to block it, making his elbow buckle so he gave way as Kivak pressed forward.
The tip of the Dark Jedi's lightsaber touched his right eyebrow and went down across his face, threatening to plunge into his skull if he didn't quickly pull back. As it was, he still received an elbow to the face as Kivak lunged forward. Zin staggered back, teeth clenched in pain before he felt the Dark Jedi brutally kick him in the abdomen, knocking him off his feet and back a few meters. His cane clattered away across the floor, but he still held the slightly curved lightfoil hilt in his right hand.
As Zin struggled to rise, he felt the prickling at the edge of his narrowed sense that Kivak was moving in to finish him. He abruptly spun, lightfoil ignited and spinning through the air at Kivak's legs and lower abdomen. The Dark Jedi jumped and backhanded the thrown weapon to the side, in the process bringing his own up to his shoulder in an optimal position with which to cut Zin in half.
Zin reached out and grabbed Kivak through the Force, his rage mounting as he attempted to choke the Dark Jedi. The Barabel dropped his lightsaber and struggled in the air, then launched a stream of lightning at Zin. He grunted through the pain, then deflected it back at Kivak to shock him.
His vision clouded as the alien choked and thrashed. Rage built within him, threatening to overwhelm him. The memory of himself as a powerful Dark Side user seen in a vision appeared inside his mind, and in that moment, he relaxed. The anger slipped away to be replaced with an almost soothing calm. He dropped Kivak to the ground, where he landed in a heap, wheezing in pain.
The Knight shook his head, then turned to face the prone Barabel. Kivak groaned while trying to rise, but Zin stood and reached down to grab Kivak by he throat. His face twisted in a snarl as he lifted the taller, more muscular Dark Jedi up.
“If you surrender now, I will let you live.” Zin panted, still in pain from the lightsaber wound he had received mere moments beforehand. He shook Kivak violently before growling furiously, “Answer me!”
“Fine.” Kivak grunted, apparently still dazed. When Zin moved, Kivak drew a knife on the right side of his belt and, with it in a reverse grip, plunged it towards Zin's heart. He attempted to twist away from the sudden attack, but the blade slipped through his robes and sunk up to the hilt a few centimeters from his right shoulder. The edge scraped against his collarbone, and a headbutt from Kivak forced him to let go and fall to his knees, facing away from Kivak.
Kivak roared as he sprung at Zin from behind, arms outstretched in an attempt to strangle the Jedi. Zin reached out through the Force and pulled the nearest lightsaber towards him--which turned out to be Kivak's--and snagged it with his left hand as he stood. The weapon flared to life, and the hum became a louder hiss and he stabbed behind him, the blade going up through the oncoming Barabel's sternum to penetrate his heart and emerge from his back directly below his neck.
Kivak gagged for a moment, then slumped forward. Zin stepped away, allowing the Dark Jedi to fall to the floor unimpeded. He gingerly pulled the knife out of his chest, then concentrated on healing the injury the weapon had caused. The blood flow slowed to a crawl, but that was the best he could do at the moment, as he suddenly realized how much the fight had taken out of him. Using the Light that way was no small feat, after all.
Zin slowly walked towards the faintly stirring Shadow who Kivak had incapacitated, idly using the Force to bring his lightfoil and cane base to his hands before connecting the two together with a metallic click.

Birth and Early Life
Born to Aera Shal'tor, a single mother who was ex-Republic Military, Zin was moved throughout the galaxy quite frequently even as a toddler due to Aera's nomadic lifestyle.
As a Padawan
As a Jedi Knight
