So after some deliberation I've decided that I want to start up another campaign group. My campaign group in real life is chugging along with their stuff, and I am looking to try something a bit different.
And you know what SWU? I want to try that something different with you. You and me. We can make magical things together.
Basically, I want to run a pen-and-paper RPG for ya'll here on the forums as a little side-thing to the normal RPing.
Some preliminaries; please post the following
1) Are you interested? Have you ever played a pen-and-paper RPG via a forum?
2) What game system do you want to play? I have been playing pen-and-papers since I was eight. It'll be hard to stump me. Below are the options I have available- by all means suggest more, it'll give me an excuse to get more books. - Dark Heresy and its adjunct games (Rogue Trader, Black Crusade, Only War) - Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 ed, 4rth ed, and the latest 5th. - Pathfinder - its free online, as a matter of fact. Swell folks over at Paizo, doncha know. - Shadowrun - A Song of Ice and Fire - No one is allowed to suggest FATAL. Suggest FATAL and you aren't getting in the game. Seriously. I know what it is, I've read it, its not ok. If you don't know what I'm talking about, keep it that way. Ignorance is bliss.
3) If you got your system/setting of choice, what kind've character would you make?
For my part, I will vote Dark Heresy or DnD 5th ed.
Once I have enough people hopefully interested, I'll start putting things together. If I get more than 5 people interested, I will limit myself to 5 PC's. That's about as much as I can/want to handle at a time- anyone beyond that can still make a character, but will only join the game if a PC dies or drops out.
So that's the basic idea, ya'll. Whaddaya say?

1. Yes indeed. Never played them via a forum, but with skype it could be pretty easy I think. 2. I'm familiar with DnD out of that list, but would want to try ASoIaF for sure. The other games I played were Five Rings, World of Darkness and Eclipse Phase. All pretty quality. 3. I really can play just about any roll/ character as needed. I'm good at filling the spaces as needed, while making them awesome Otherwise, I'm down.

I am so up for this. I know DnD like the back of my hand (no, srsly, I been doing DnD shiz for roughly 22 years now and I've kept up with it for all that time).
But Dark Heresy I know little about, and ASoIaF I also know very little.
Shadowrun I'm curious about, and if Shadowrun is chosen I know Dee will likely nerdfap with multiple nerdgasms at the prospect given how much she likes the game.
So, my vote is for DnD or Shadowrun.
But if were talkin' other PnP games, I'd have to suggest (Old) World of Darkness--especially if its a Sabbat game (because nWoD sucks, let's be honest here--it does), and I'd loooooooooove to actually play a Legend of 5 Rings game, I been wanting to play it for ages, but never found a group online to actually do it with.

I'd be totally down for SoIaF, but I don't know too much about DnD. I've played PnP rpg's similar, but never actually that. Sooo yeah

Shadowrun I'm curious about, and if Shadowrun is chosen I know Dee will likely nerdfap with multiple nerdgasms at the prospect given how much she likes the game. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ A million times this. 1) I would definitely be down for this. I've played PnP games in person and via chat programs (IRC, mostly), but never through a forum. 2) Like Apillis said, I loooove Shadowrun so I have to suggest it. I wouldn't be opposed to another game though. D&D I played briefly and it was pretty cool, I wouldn't mind trying it again. Also oWoD is a system I'm pretty familiar with (I played VtM for about 4 or 5 years, and it's the most recent system I've used). I am a little sick of VtM, but wouldn't mind a Sabbat game or even a typical Camarilla game. I'd get over my being tired of it to get to play something! Werewolf I also got to play briefly and I liked it and would love to get to play more of it. But, yeah... I'd probably play regardless of what's chosen and I'm pretty easy. 3) I tend to play either sneaky rogue-like characters or full-blown charge in like a maniac and smash face characters, but I've had a few that were different. I played a mage who was mostly a support character for a while in SR, for example. What type of character I play will probably come down to what game is chosen and what others are planning on making.

Alrighty, four people is a good start on a group. I think this idea is a go.
I couldn't decide on Shadowrun or DnD as the system. Ended up flipping a coin and DnD won.
I think the DnD Next playtest rules win out over 4th Edition for two reasons; they are uncomplicated by a plethora of splatbooks, and they are available for free. As per the playtest agreement, I can send anyone the material from DnD Next if we are, y'know, playtesting.
So some further questions-
Which kind of fantasy world appeals to you? a) The two great Kingdoms are shattered, and vulturous nobles now squabble over their corpses. Magic is rare, monstrous creatures are as well. The PC's are trying to eke out their living where they may.
b) In a land of ice and snow, the PC's search out their fortune. Clan Lords rule from mighty fortresses, jotun kings raid the lowlands from their mountain castles, and winter's night heralds the undead. The Colossi - unimaginably huge automota from a bygone age - are beginning to reawaken, their slow lumbering strides counted in miles.
c) Once the world was whole, but no longer. Floating motes of land are the only refuge, hovering above a bottomless abyss. The PC's must take to airships to seek out adventure- contending with air kraken and marauding gnoll pirates.
Once we have decided on a relative setting, we can swing into character creation. If you want to post your general character idea along with setting choice - or propose a setting idea yourself - than by all means do so.

I'm pretty easy too, I'm cool with each of them and have character ideas for each setting, but I will admit that choice "C" intrigues me a lil' more than the others. But, again, I'm easy--I can go with either of the three and be happy. XD

Sooo yeah... Like everyone else has said all those settings sound pretty cool. C makes me think of Skies of Arcadia! That game was awesome! My only slight problem with A is I kinda wanna fight cool monsters and in that setting they're rare. BUT, the setting itself sounds cool despite that so that "slight problem" is really, really minute and inconsequential. I'd be happy with any one of the three. As for character concepts right now I have no idea other than my usual generic choices that I said above. Will try to have a better idea of what I'm gonna do when a setting is decided on.

Interested. If there's spots open.
1. Yes, played and DMed a bit.
2. Pathfinder, 3.5e and 4e. Setting: Forgotten Realms, Golarion, Eberron. 5e shouldn't be too hard to pick up.
3. Any character, depending on what the party needs.

Aaaalrighty. I think that I'm just gonna take a blender to the three ideas and see what comes out. I have enough notes on B and C to make it work, I think. Last logistical concern is disseminating the game rules. Wizards of the Coast has them avaiable for free to download- you give them your email, agree to the terms of the playtest, and that's that. Alternatively I could set up a dropbox or somesuch if you don't feel like jumping through the hoops. Next post of mine will have world details and such. Link to the 5th Edition Playtest Rules. www.wizards.com/dnd/DnDNext.aspx

Kinda' like Ed.5, fairly simple.
Struggling to decide which concepts want to play, though. <.<
Guess it depends on what exactly the setting is and what others will be playing.
Classes I can't decide between are: 1) Human Wizard (Evocation) 2) Human Barbarian 3) Human Marksman 4) Wood Elf Assassin
It's tough deciding between those 4 concepts. <.<
Again, guess I'll figure it out once I get an understanding for what the setting will be and what others will be playing. XD

Alrighty. Putting together a small wiki so ya'll will have easy access to world information. It is far from finished, but you can see the bare-bones I have so far. The most useful thing, I think, is the map. I have named six cities, which I plan on fleshing out. If you don't wish your character to be from one of those six cities, you're free to pick any place labeled on the map. Send me the info and I'll throw it up on the wiki. www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/beyond-the-white-wold/wikis/main-page

Found an editable character sheet for ya'll to use. I'll try and attach it for you to use. Dice rolls can be handled here - invisiblecastle.com/roller/Make sure to use the same name each time you roll so it tracks. EDIT: I can't attach the character sheet file to this post- whomever is in the game PM me, I'll reply with the file. EDIT EDIT: I'm an idiot. Here's a link to the mediafire download. www.mediafire.com/view/?qak14wrokpnijtt
