Fairly bummed about the non-Evil PCs thing, more so sense that's typically what I've played for 20+ years in PnP games. It was always fun to RP in a mixed alignment group of adventurers, each having their own moral and philosophical issues with one another. When it's just Neutral/Good that dynamic tends to be a lot more watered down and predictable, it can still have it's unique moments, but it's not quite as intense or at the forefront.
Though, I can understand some being shell-shocked by experiences of bad players playing Chaotic Stupid characters who often seek to be disruptive, or someone being dumb thinking they're being "edgy" and "cold" because they just off'ed an NPC for no apparent reason under the guise of "living up to their alignment", or the even more idiotic "I kill baby" crap in attempts to playing a monstrous figure. But for future campaigns I'd advise not to eliminate evil PCs just because of fear of poor players, and plan for avenues for a more devious nature for players to take within the adventure. It can lead the narrative/adventure to some really fun places.
In any case, I'm going along with a simple "Neutral" character, because it's the closest I can get to playing a Dark Cleric without it being contradictory or awkward (using negative/evil power to do "good" never made sense to me).
