v5 Upgrade: Comments, concerns, queries!

So I don't know whybut my forum is completely jacked up. Since its been hard to get on with work I just tried after update finally and backgrounds completely white, links are all jacked up, can't use shout box, and well guess thats it...anone offer solution?

I have to say, I appreciate all the Doctor Who gifs. It's nice to know that I'm not the only person who loves the show.

Anyways, I'm finding the Shoutbox to be much like Mass Effect 3. It looks all great and shiny and as if it'll solve all the problems we've had and it's the thing we've been waiting for. Using it turns out to be different however as I tend to miss messages, it doesn't look like it gets used through the day, and it's hard to talk to people through.

And in the end, it's just rather disappointing.

Though, it could just be my negative outlook on Life that's clouding my judgement. Just how I'm starting to see it.

Alright, whilst I haven't had time to look into the coding of things, I'm just going to answer what I can and let folks know that I've noted down certain things to look into. I shall respond to the issue posed by a member after their tag. Those of you who have left compliments I am very thankful!

Ghostie - In v4.5 the buttons were actually changed to plain text. Now that they're buttons, the way it shows which button is highlighted is by altering the background rectangle image for that button. When developing the forum's look I tried a number of different background images to show them as highlighted, however none of them really popped out at me, at least not in a good way, they looked awkward and so I set it up so the background images for the top buttons would always be the same.

As for links in the text. That's something I want to look into because I also liked the fact that it highlighted them. So far I've only come across the option for links to be in different colours, but when links are used a lot, that can also detract from the look of the place so that is something I will try and look further into.

As for badges, as far as I'm aware they are related to Proboards store related stuff and basically are something for show that mean nothing more than you or someone has spent money. For months they've been talking about having an achievement system as well, there's an option regarding it in the notifications tab when you edit your profile. There wasn't a whole lot of information about it, and there was talk that it would be more of a global thing and not something we could edit/make up ourselves but I'm not entirely sure where they landed on that because the idea of making up our own achievements related to OOC and IC things would be pretty awesome. I do know however, that they're still working on the achievements which is why you've not seen any of them so far. This is because technically speaking, v5 is still in its beta period, the final release is not for a few months yet, hence why a number of things may still be buggy/not completed, I'd speculate that bugs with the shoutbox are also part of this reason.

Rugs - A lot to reply to here. First of all, shoutbox stuff, like I mentioned at the end of my response above, is still in its beta so hopefully any issues regarding it will be ironed out by Proboards.

For the timestamp, not sure if there are individual options for changing this or any global ones but I'll look into it.

The post options is something I noticed the other day but I'm not sure how to go about fixing it. I might be able to locate the issue but even if I did, I'd speculate that it's something Silas would have to handle. However, in the meantime, the main thing you'd need the options bit for (in terms of necessity) would be in order to Moderate an aspect of the thread. This can still be done via the actions dropdown menu (as seen in your screenshot) as that is not restricted to certain parameters of the board.

Swamps - I've been having a similar sort of issue but with my messages bubble, it keeps saying I have a message even though I do not. As these seem to be individual incidents, hopefully this is something that Proboards will be able to iron out of the system.

mitchell - Look at the post below the one you made, is that the same issue that you're having?

Adobi-Wan Kenobi - So, the entire site is lacking images and colours beyond the very basic? What internet browser are you using?

Actually, just thought of something, though, minor. Something that has bothered me since using v5 on Support.

Maybe this isn't something that can be removed, which I would understand, but in case, I'll point it out.
The 'Related topics and stories' box at the bottom of the page -- I find it rather pointless and kind of an eyesore. Even if it could just be made collapsible (like the birthdays, users in 24 hours, etc.) would be an improvement.


EDIT: Also...  if there's any way to colorize the 'new' markers next to posts? With them gray against the gray background, they're hard to see, hard to see which threads have new posts.




And more of a comment here than an actual problem -- I miss the quick log in box that used to be at the bottom of the page. ;p

We are allowed to play around with the left side but are prohibited from editing the right.

I'll see about making the background to the new tag a bit brighter but anything too drastic would kinda mess up the colour scheme a bit.

There's your problem. Can I first suggest you download Google Chrome, because it is a far superior browser to IE >_>

If you're not allowed to download things like that (Parents are terrible!) Then simply update Internet Explorer, to IE 8 or 9 depending on the version of windows you're running.

Adobi-Wan Kenobi - We've looked into it a bit and it seems that all versions of Internet Explorer we've tried have issues with Proboards v5. I would recommend you download either Firefox or Google Chrome as IE really is quite a poor browser anyway.

Also, the image in your signature exceeds the 550x550 limit.

Everything looks sexy. I, however, lament that there isn't a...hrmm what was it called...'new posts' button like before. I usually clicked there and it showed where the latests posts were.
If this is still around, I haven't disovered it yet D=

LastStand - There's the participated tab at the top of every page. And if you're on the home page and scroll down to the info center, in the Threads & Posts section there's a link to Recent Posts and one to Recent threads.

Have you tried the "Recent Posts" button, located under "Threads and Posts" and above "Users Online." I think that may be what you need. Plus, it show more than just the 50 most recent posts. Recent Threads is also pretty useful.

Hey Jenno, for the "Stories Around the Web" thing that Mara mentioned, is it supposed to show "Stories Around the Web" twice, with the same five stories, just in different order?  Seems odd...

If you're using Win8 it's pretty much the only browser that doesn't freeze every five minutes. I had to convert from Chrome.
