(Slated for around the time of ‘Gotta Fight For It’ )
Kara had walked for over an hour. About a hundred yards behind her lays her blaster…it was just too heavy to carry along with her mom’s old hunting riffle. Her hand pressed against her side and she let out a few choice curses in basic and old Corellian. It was such a good language for cursing, Old Corellian. It was perfect for it in fact. Kara’s mind wondered as she slowly put one foot in front of the other. She had to find her mom. The Sith were lying, they had to be. No Sith could simply kill her mom, she was too good for that. Had to find her, had to find her. They had Sith to kill…they had to protect the people.
Kara thought she had walked further…her eyes focused on an old set of ruins in the distance. She could hear the surf…the beach. She liked the sound of that. She would go to the beach and rest for a while. Maybe put on her bathing suit and go for a swim. Better not be any men around…she’d have to hurt them if they got snarky. Idiots thought just because she’s a zeltron she’ll lay down for them. Well she’s a Corellian and they don’t just lay down…well maybe for Prad Bitt but then again he was a sexy holo-net star…but that’s different. He was a Corellian.
The young zeltron didn’t realize the extent of her wounds. They were by far as life threatening as when her right forearm had been severed bellow the elbow. She could have bled to death then. That is exactly what was happening to her. The slug in her side had buried itself into one of her livers, and the one in her shoulder, though a nice clean through and through had nicked veins and she was slowly bleeding internally. If not for the use of a medpack and the patch job she had done on herself she would already be dead. As it was, it went from a quick death that would take her in minutes to one that could take as much as three hours.
Kara’s foot caught in a gofer hole and caused her to fall face first on the ground. Kara tried to rise but couldn’t find the strength. She needed to rest anyways so she let the approaching darkness claim her.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“This is Glitch; we have a wounded individual headed our way, about two miles out. Zeltron, female carrying a slug thrower…doesn’t match up with anyone in the DLA…but does match up with a description of one of a duo that have been hitting Sith patrols. No sight of the older human woman. Be careful though…there was fighting in the area a couple days ago and it wasn’t our people. The Sith could be looking for her. Who’s in the area and can give our pink friend a hand?”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kara awoke to the sound of a baying kath hound and the sound of running feet. She was rolled over and saw a balaclava with a skull painted across it. She smirked up… only seeing the skull grinning back at her. “Come to take me to hell? Sent plenty of Sith on ahead to pave the way…”

The bright sunlight filtered down on to the coast line creating rainbows in the prsim of the sea water crashing against the shore. However, one rainbow dance and darted around seemingly randomly but actually with purpose.
The wildlife all about looked on suspiciously as the small Arkanian Offshoot skipped along happily in her swirling rainbow poncho. A small group of the DLA had been out gathering supplies. Siala found herself frequently on these missions mainly tasked with stocking up on repair parts and general salvage for anything that was useful or could be made useful to the DLA. AS-4S' head hung off a clip on her belt, inactive and silent as it had been for nearly a year now. He was the only company she needed, besides the rest of the group tended to disperse from her anyway. She got the strange indication that she made them uncomfortable somehow. Her commlink however was in one of the many pockets in her hard wearing combat trousers. She occupationally heard their chatter to each other. She tended not to report in herself unless she founds something important.
So far the trip had been relatively uneventful and her back pack contained a few nuts bolts and circuit boards. However, she was enjoying being in the fresh air away from the hideout. The grass waving the smell of the sea, and up ahead she saw a ruined building. It had probably been a farmstead destroyed by the Sith during the invasion. It was an ideal place to scavenge, many of the farmsteads had small collections of droids some might be repairable and others even if damaged the parts could be used to fix other things. In addition, many farmers had a variety of weapons to protect themselves against wild animals.
As she had predicted the ruins were far better pickings, repairable rifles and pistols. She scavenged parts from farming equipment. During her work she had heard some message over the comms about a couple of Zeltrons heading there way. She shook her head she was busy. She had packed her pack so full of stuff so much so parts were sticking out of it and she could not close it properly. There were some other buildings along the coast she new of to examine. Smiling down at AS, as she strolled out of the ruins.
“We have done well today...” she looked up and spotted something out of place, a shape in the grass ahead.
She reached for the Blaster at her hip. “Come on Clive lets see what that is.” She said distrubingly adressing the blaster.
She did move quietly to begin with, but then noticed the Kath Hounds about on the horizon, she had to move quickly in case they took it into their heads to eat whatever it was. She pulled down her balaclava as she ran, she never liked wearing it but the DLA insisted even though it clashed with her poncho and had a rather tasteless skull motif. As she approached it became clear it was a woman long reddish hair splayed in the grass and pink tinted skin. Siala, stopped and crouched over her and rolled her gently over onto her back. The poor woman was in a horrible state and mumbles something Siala did not quite hear. She was in a terrible state and Siala wondered why they wanted her, maybe she could be repaired? She lifted the commlink to her lips.
“Hello everyone, hope your having a wonderful day.” She said cheerfully. “I think I have found one of those Zletrons you were talking about, But she seems to be damaged I should come quickly.”
“Hello there can I help?” She said to the one not sure if she could hear her.

The sound of the wind, the surf…the feel of the sun beating down on her from above. The distant roll of thunder. Kara was vaguely aware of all these things. The strange girl above her most of all. She had an odd feel about her emotions. Somewhat hectic and disorganized…but happy.
Kara looked up at the skull clad face. Blinking slowly she wasn’t sure what to make of what she was seeing. Was she dreaming. Kara lifted her right hand slowly and gripped the… ‘girls’ poncho. The servos in that hand clamping down firmly.
“Help me…please.” She said as firmly and clearly as she could. She lifted her head and tried to rise from where she was laying. A spasm through her side caused her to cry out in pain. “I..I…have…t-to find…my…M-m-mom.” Gritting through the pain, her cybernetic hand clamping down more firmly on the stranger’s shoulder Kara forced herself into a seated position.
“Sh-she can’t be…dead…she can’t be!”

Siala for the first time noticed the cybernetic arm, she felt a brief amount of excitement at seeing it. To her is seemed well made and she studied it as it moved noting all the various parts and components working in perfect harmony.
However, she was broken out of her reverie by the mention of the word 'Mom'. Siala looked into the face of the woman who she had previously seemed disinterested in. Running through her head she saw images of a proud beautiful white haired woman laid low, made weak by a disease manufactured by Pure-blood Arkanians who saw their little family as a threat to racial purity. So Siala looked down at the woman with sympathetic eyes, just like she had been she was abandoned by someone she loved.
She had no real idea what to say, she opened and closed her mouth a few times. “If your mother is still about we will find her.” She said this uncertainly.
She spoke into the commlink again “Its the younger one, can you guys keep a look out for her mother please?”
Reaching into her pack she pulled out a first aid kit. “I need to repair you.” She said softly and nervously. Siala had never been a fan of blood in that sense it always made her feel uncomfortable. She checked over the woman's wounds seeing one in her side and one in her shoulder. The woman had patched them up herself, shakily a bit seeing as she must have been in a lot of pain when she did it. She fixed up what the woman had done to help herself with her own limited skill and stock of kolto patches.
She brushed hair out of the woman's face and looked at her curiously. “What is your designation?” She asked kindly.

Kara helped open up armor and Jacket so the skull clad girl to better tend her wounds. Kara slung her pack off her shoulder and pulled out her med-kit. “I…have some…supplies.” She said, gritting her teeth against the pain. “Shoulder is a through…and through, my side is the…dangerous one. I think the…slug…is in one of my livers.”
She helps the stranger tend the wound in her side, feeling the emotions rolling off the odd girl. Sympathy, a distant somewhat faded mourning. It had become fresher when Kara mentioned her mother. The girl was talking about repairing her. The emotions were once again odd and hard to keep track of with the pain.
“Cadet…Second Lieutenant, Kara Carroll…Coronet Girls Military…Academy. M-My mom and I came here for…vacation…over a year ago…Sith attacked day…before we were to go…home. W-We have b-been fighting…them. M-moms a Marine…scout-sniper…we-we were looking for the DLA…t-to help…l-looks like you f-found me instead.” Kara looked at the woman kneeling at her side. "Whats your name?"
------------------------------------------------------------- “This is Glitch, come in Odd Duck. We have a unit heading your way for medical transport. What is the severity of her injuries? No word of the mother, we’ll have scouts in the area trying to find her.” -------------------------------------------------------------
Kara blinked at the girl…she felt suddenly dizzy. She lay back down as the girl ran her fingers through her chestnut hair. “I’m…bleeding…internally…I have…h-half an hour…to an h-hour…a-at best…without…medical…treatment…” Kara started to shiver, “I’m…cold….”

Siala looked down at the woman as she confirmed her name. Even Siala with her limited degree empathy and understanding of people could see she was in tremendous pain.
“I-I am Siala Elrad of the DLA.”
The poor girl looked so weak and helpless, and Siala felt almost the same way. She suddenly snapped AS' head of the clip on her belt and placed it next to the girl.
“Come AS, your better at this than I am. What do I do?”
She paused as if hearing the voice of her metallic colleague but as always she was the only one who seemed to hear him. In her small little world, she never imagined for a moment that placing a disembodied droid head and talking to it like it was still working when it was not, would possibly be the last thing Kara would need. AS informed her of this fact Siala merely looked baffled.
“Really? It would comfort me no.....”
She was interrupted by a communication over the commlink. Lifting the small device to her lips she replied quickly with a tiny amount of irritation in her voice.
“Odd duck?! Well I....”
In her head AS shushed her and begged for her to listen to the rest of the message. She gulped a little and looked at Kara and bit her lip in rising panic dealing with people was not something she dealt with well. The DLA was a pretty lonely place for her these days, and dealing with an injured person could be worse.
“Glitch Kara says she may have only half an hour. Please get here quickly...” She sounded desperate and rather child like in that moment. “She is not leaking oil so I dunno what to do.”
She put the commlink back in her pocket and looked down at the girl who complained of being cold. Siala nodded and opened up her back, taking out the salvaged parts and found a field blanket, she gently placed it over the girl. It smelled faintly of oil.
“Oh dear, you don't look very well.... no that's the wrong thing to say I can tell. Maybe I could build a fire or maybe you need a drink or something.” She spoke quickly each word rolling into the next.

Kara looked up at the woman when she started talking to the droid head, raising an eyebrow, though that took more effort than she would have thought. She sensed Sialas’ rising panic over the situation. As the woman named Glitch came over the radio Kara frowned again at Siala’s growing irritation. The call sign as was implied.
“Sorry sweetie, best I could come up with at the moment, we usually don’t talk to com system…half hour? They should be their in ten minutes.”
Kara tried to calm Siala with a combination of her empathy and pheromones. It took a great deal of mental effort on her part. She tried to maintain the necessary mental concentration for the task at hand. Kara reached out her hand after the blanket was laid across her and smirked. It did not do much to warm her, but somewhere in the back of her mind, she recalled what likely was happening to her body was. She was suffering from blood loss and the kolto packs would only go so far to keep her going.
“Thank you.” Kara inhaled deeply and smiled, “I love the smell of oil…Siala…what do you do for a quick fix on a…an oil leak…something to last just long en…enough to get you home? You plug it up right. Same…principal…applies here...in...My p-pack are...some bandages...do what I say and y-you'll do fine..." Kara tried to give the older…strange woman an encouraging smile. She guided Siala through the process of dressing and plugging up the gunshot wounds. The strongest thing was probably when Kara told Siala to use tampons… "Work's great...on oil...pans...for a temporary fix..." Kara said with a chuckle.

Siala felt very odd. Panic had gripped her, she was dealing with two of her least favourite situations. Interactions with another person, and.... blood. The smell, the feel and the look of it, all reverberated in her head as she tried to work on Kara. In situations like these sometimes her subconscious forced her deny the reality to protect her brain, seeing it as oil or not seeing it at all. However, this was too real too close for her to deny. It through up all sorts of images she would much rather forget from the plains of Dantooine to her old home on Arkania.
Siala took a few deep breaths. She felt and odd tingling sensation rise through her, and the panic lessened, not much but just enough for her to grasp Kara's instructions. She was a tiny bit hesitant, however she knew the importance of all this. She applied bandages where possible, wrapping and binding the girl's wounds tightly if a little untidily She really found it easier to imagine she was fixing up oil reservoirs on a machine with tape as she had in the past. A quick fix till she could do the real repair. However, what the girl said next through her a little bit.
“T-tampons?”
She sat for a moment in silence then very slightly and gradually her pale cheeks began to glow pink. It was odd, she was not normally given to feelings of embarrassment but this was one of those rare times. Then the slightly warped cogs of her brain clicked into place. She leapt up.
“Why did I not think of I before!?” Excitement bounced from her voice.
“It would be very effective, so much easier than using rags and having to re-wash them. Also y-yeah.... Yes! They expand and form and excellent seal. They could so easily protect fuel lines when they are submerged in water...”
Siala looked the poor girl who was lying at her feet. “Your right AS I am getting carried away, I have to make sure she is still functioning when help arrives.”
“Um um... would you like a drink? AS tells me rehydration is important.”
Her hands twisted nervously as she wrapped up the last of the wounds. The panic was rising again, as were the unbidden thoughts in her head.
“Don't break Kara, I am sure I would be in so much trouble if you did.”

Kara did her best to keep Siala calm, with words as well as her pheromones. It wasn’t an easy thing to do in her condition. She couldn’t help but smile at Siala’s reaction to using tampons to patch the bullet wounds. It was an old medics trick leaned quite by accident some years ago when a female medic was out of padding so resorted to her tampons to patch up the bullet wounds. It worked so well it became an unofficial addition to most medic packs.
As the girl rambled about mechanics Kara cracked another smile. “Good…another gear-head.” She said. “Ho-how long until…he-help arrives?” She felt her grasp on her empathic abilities slipping as she talked but redoubled then, using every scrap of mental power she had left to keep Siala calm. If she broke down before help arrived, then Kara was in trouble.

iala looked at the poor girl clearly in pain, and he she was babbling, though she supposed that her words may give Kara some thing other than her injuries to think about. She also seemed to be struggling with something unrelated to the pain, Siala felt a strange relaxed feeling sweep over her, it felt like all those times she had laid in her cot at night with a technical manual and steaming hot cup of coffee. Apart from the bloodied stranger by her all felt right with the galaxy.
Siala heard the question and dropped down on the grass nearby and gently reached out a hand and gripped Kara's. “Glitch said ten minutes tops.”
Siala looked down at Kara's face, she was clearly straining for something. “I-I am not very good at this kind of thing, but just relax.”
Siala was not exactly sure how she could relax Kara but knew she had to try some how.
“Yes it won't be long I am sure.... gear head hmm?”
She ran her fingers through her hair in thought accidentally brushing a little bit of blood into it.
“Um... so what do you think of the new landspeeders they are bringing out these days. I don't think the reulsorlifts are up to it myself.”
She smiled, it was an obvious distraction technique hopefully it would work, while she scanned the horizon for the help that was coming any minute.

Kara lay there holding onto Siala’s hand as if it were the only thing keeping here there. It was getting harder to concentrate and maintain the empathic link…instead she focused on her pheromones. Her mind wondered back a year or two ago when her mom had promised her a new speeder if she did well in her school.
“Mom…offered…to buy me a new one….told her to get me a older model…made of better…stuff.”
Things were getting fuzzy, why were they getting fuzzy. Something didn’t seem right to her. Siala seemed be wavering…her voice was coming from further and further away. What was happening?
"Mom...please...mommy...help me." Kara lost conciousness just as the promised help comes over the ridge, her hand went limp in Siala’s.

As the hand went limp, Siala dropped it like it was burning hot. Grabbing her comm link she almost shouted into it.
“Glitch! Glitch this is uh...” she sighed “..this is Odd duck. Help has arrived. What do I do now?”
The call came back to return to the hideout with the salvage she had. Siala was relieved to an extent as she did not want to be hovering around some one so badly injured.
“Um... um out and Roger.”
After briefly wondering who exactly Roger was and why he needed to be mentioned in most messages, she collected her things. She watched them take Kara and try and treat her at the same time, she stood for a moment the breeze ruffling her blood stained hair, before she turned on her heels and headed back.
5hours later....
Having returned to the hideout Siala proceeded to do for the rest of her day what she normally did. She had cleaned herself up and had felt deeply sick with Kara's blood in her hair, no wonder people had given her odder looks than normal on her return. Siala was curious about how Kara was doing, perhaps not concerned as that kind of empathy was not always present in her. However, Siala was able to distract herself reviewing and testing what she had brought back, and getting through her backlog of repairs. She even managed to chew a few of the fighters out for their poor weapons maintenance. As always they were willing to do as she said just to get out of her room, It had to be done but it always left her feeling isolated.
Her work done, it was now quite late. Siala sighed and with AS in her arms she went one one of her frequent strolls round the Hideout. It was best when it was quiet people were not sa respectable maning or looking creeped out as she passed. She looked up and saw she was just outside the medical room. Her fingers gently brushed the door as she hovered outside. She held AS close to her face.
“But I don't want to go in. She could die or something. I don't want to see that again, she was nice.”
The cold metal face stared back at her with empty eyes. “What gives you that idea, why would she want to see me if she wakes up?”
“Familiar face? But but... I am just some freak who babbled at her.” The face loomed in front of her.
“Your right, I am not insane I am not insane. Its everyone else.”
She took a deep breath and pushed through the door. At the noise a man suddenly appeared in front of her. He was clearly keeping an eye on people in the room during the night. “Hey! Your not..... Siala.” The man gulped a little and looked at her then then fearfully at the droid head in young woman's hands.
Siala smiled broadly at him, in the low lights of the medical room it looked extremly sinister.
“Drey why hello. I just remembered its about time for me to give your medical scanner a check up. I do hope she is in good health.”
Drey jabbered for a moment.
“Because, if not AS here will be very angry and me to. I can't abide negligence. Perhaps you had better make sure she is fine, I want to see her tomorrow.”
Drey nodded vigorously and quickly made for the storage room. Siala sighed heavily. She never liked doing that, but it was a good way of ensuring she could stay in the medical room. Kara's bed was at one end. Siala shuffled over that way quietly. There was a small datapad strapped to the bottom of the bed with Kara's medical details on it. Siala picked it up and then turned it upside down but which ever way she held it she still did not quite understand it. Returning it, she climbed on top of a chair by Kara's bedside and crouched on it, the toes of her bare feet twiddled. She balanced AS on her knees,a nd looked into his face.
“Don't be silly I do like her, but your my best friend and no one can ever change that.” She softly kissed the top of AS' head, and waited.

Kara stirred slightly at the sound of voices…she was carried and put into the back of a transport. Taken somewhere, she didn’t know where. She is vaguely aware of being undressed and fighting against who ever is doing it…until a sharp sting in the side of her neck and then utter darkness.
She didn’t know how much time had passed, all she knew was she ached all over. The murmur of voices is what awoke her. She vaguely remembered one of the voices but had no clue about the other one. She opened her eyes and looked around. Everything was blurry and what caught her attention was someone sitting next to her. It took her a moment to realize it was the Arkanian girl who had helped Kara out on the plains.
“Hello Beautiful.” Kara says in a week somewhat horse whisper, “Could I get some water?”

The light overhead, flickered on and off with faint and annoying ticking and buzzing noise. Siala found her eyes being drawn from the bed and to the light, and around the room in general. The wall had big chunks missing out of the plaster work living the exposed stone behind visible. Siala was certain the place was clean but it did not look very nice. Siala had been in here once before. Once the DLA had rescued her from one of the many camps the Sith had set up and held prisoners in. They had arrived just in time in fact as she had been facing execution.
She had been tortured and beaten, her subconscious had sealed off parts of waking thoughts from her to hide what was happening to her from herself. The Sith had been frustrated and angry as they could not solve the problems she had caused. Reprogramming computers and various industrial machinery, confusing droids. Then finally they had cracked the code and fixed anything. She was no longer worth keeping alive. At the time the idea came as something of a relief. She had no family, no home to return to and had jumped from the frying pan into the fire. What point was there in living any more? Her public execution however was halted by shots, not from the Sith but from the DLA.
She sighed and gently pulled at loose bit of thread on her trousers. Then she had woken up here, not the nicest place to regain consciousness in, but certainly better than a Sith camp. Dutch and the others had given her what in all likely hood was a third chance at life and an opportunity through her knowledge and skill to help the people of Dantooine. Something she could not have done on Arkania. There she had been alone one Offshoot shouting into the void. Here there were others but she still did not feel quite like she belonged somehow.
Then she heard a soft, hoarse and weary sounding voice. She felt a little colour enter her pale cheeks at being called “Beautiful.” It had been a long time since the lonely twenty-four year old had been called that. Siala nodded and quickly leapt up and went to the nearest sink and came back with a small glass of water.
“Nice to see you awake.” She said brightly and held the glass out to Kara. A dark part of her brain wondered unhappily if very quickly Kara would become like the rest of the DLA and ostracise her. She suffocated that thought and remained her beaming bright self. AS' head loomed over proceedings as he sat perched on her side table of the bed, staring emptily at Kara.

Kara frowned faintly at the emotions she felt coming from Siala. The reaction to being called beautiful was understandable. That the Corellian girl could understand, but a momentary trepedation was not. She said nothing as she drank the water held to her slightly chapped lips. Kara lay back and offered a smile to Siala.
“I owe you for saving me out there…thank you.” Her smile is broad and genuine for a moment and then it is replaced by a grimace as she tried to adjust herself in the bed… "Can you hand me my medical read-out please?”

Siala smiled weakly back at Kara, and took back the glass and placed it on the cabinet next to her bed. When she was thanked for saving Kara's life Siala blushed brightly. Her feet shuffled a little in place. She was rather unused to being thanked for anything.
"Well... I er.... I just um did my best." She mumbled to quietly. When Kara asked for the her medical chart Siala nodded vigorously and quickly grabbed the thing and handed it over. " I looked at it earlier but its all Shyriiwook to me." She laughed weakly. She nodded at the head of AS on the table. "As he says, unless it has wires I am rather useless with it."
She remembered the grimace that had shown briefly on Kara's face. "Oh don't over exert yourself don't want to have to repair you again. You might need a lot of oil changes." She said this with seeming deadly seriousness.
She looked over Kara's shoulder at the chart. "So um what's the damage? Lost a few servos, maybe a receptor or two. Those are easy enough fixes." She rambled nervously.

Kara was definitely realizing something was a little off about Siala. Talking to a dead droid head sure as hell wasn't normal. But Kara wasn't about to make an issue of it. The offshoot had saved her life and that was that. Looking over the chart, Kara grimaced.
"One of my livers, we'll call it filter one is now only working at fifty percent, but I have a secondary and its operating at one hundred percent, so I'll be fine." She wasn't sure why she was speaking to the Siala like that, but she sensed something, she wasn't sure what...but there was definitely something going on in the other woman's head, what ever it was. "The wound in my shoulder, they were able to repair the damage, now its just a matter of time until I heal up and can get back to killing the Sith."
She set the chart down and looked at Arkadian offshoot. Kara's blue eyes met Silias and she smiled. "You saved my life out there, thank you." After a moment shea lays back and rubs the juncture where her cybernetic forearm and had meets with her flesh. It ached.
