Pre-Vance-padawan-ness
Talau had a habit of following the Winds rather than directly following the Council's requests unless it was utterly necessary. Considering the fact that her current mission had already been completed, she didn't feel too terribly about making a pit-stop on a back-water planet that she really had never heard of before. Not only did she need to refuel, but she needed to discover just why she felt the desire to scour the whole planet for...someone.
She didn't even know who that 'someone' was, or what they looked like!
Really, the whole notion that whatever she was looking for was a person at all had come to her in a 'meditation dream' as she liked to call it. While on her journey back to Coruscant she'd been meditating, but had been so tired that she'd fallen asleep while doing so. This, of course, had its repercussions...namely in the dreams she tended to have while she slept. More often than not they tended to bring her some clarity on some subject or other that had been in her thoughts lately, but occasionally it did little more than to just baffle her and give her an annoyingly persistent desire to discover something on the most vague information possible.
This just happened to be the trouble this time around.
With little more than a vague, foggy and shadowy outline of a person in her mind and the knowledge that wherever he (she thought it was a 'he' anyway) was would be quite close to her next hyperspace exit, she went about the tedious task of filtering through habitable planets until she found one that 'clicked'. Thus she arrived on Aiaru with nothing further to go on but gut instinct and the force.
At least Demas (what she'd learned was the capital city) was nice enough to look at...as she well discovered after wandering around it randomly for several hours with what seemed like very little rhyme or reason. Truth be told, there really was no rhyme or reason to it, either, just vague and tenuous feelings that lead her onward in a vain pursuit of Winds knew what. Finally, after what felt like entirely too long, the woman decided to slip into the nearest diner, hoping they would accept republic currency...
...if not, well...that would mean her stomach would be quite unhappy to discover it had to eat more of the food she had on the Order's small ship.
As she entered, she received more than a few odd looks...no doubt stemming from her full leather outfit, lightly beaded hair, and the unmistakable air of 'off worlder' that she could never quite rid herself of even if she was trying. That was typically because of her features...features that were so human, but in some indescribable way utterly unlike any near-human race out there. This wasn't to mention the eyes, either...

Patrol duty never seemed to stop these days. And in a place like Demas, it was rarely exciting.
Things were wilder out on the frontier, past Bylgia and the plains, up in the highlands, or near the edge of the Aethon Desert. But Demas was Demas. Fortified. Secure. Save the typical problems any city might place, Kvothe rarely saw any reason to patrol the capital city.
Yet Bors saw differently, and though he didn’t say it outright, Kvothe knew his captain was responding to his recent zeal, much like when he’d sent Kvothe away for a few months to travel the Galaxy.
”Go, clear you mind,” he’d said. ”Aiaru will not perish while you’re away. The Tower will remain.”
Sent away and kept occupied with busywork, Kvothe mulled grouchily. While Vorian runs free and the Unum plot to tear the world apart.
Disgruntling though it was, duty was duty, and Kvothe did as told.
Fas rubbed Kvothe’s boot as they walked the street. The flickercat knew Kvothe was annoyed, bonded as they were, and the rubbing and gentle purring urged him to calmness. Kvothe laughed softly. “I’ll be fine, Fas,” he said, reaching down to scratch his familiar’s ears. “Just a mood. It’ll pass.” Eventually…
He straightened with a sigh, robes ruffling as an early-spring breeze sighed down the crowded boulevard. He walked casually, staff in hand, watching the crowds of people drifting to and fro with his eyes and through the Mythos.
Quiet, Always quiet.
Ahead, a glimpse of something caught his eye. An ethereal gleam, a flash of color, gone as soon as he saw it. He paused briefly, tilting his head. Someone dipped into one of the diners along the boulevard’s edge, and that was when he saw the color.
Kvothe decided to follow.
The glimpse of an aura stood out in the way that those around his people did. Kvothe initially suspected that it might have been Rakesh — it certainly wasn’t Vorian, and his people were exceptionally rare away from their homeworld — but it didn’t look the same.
He went through the door a few moments after the person, and found the person that piqued his interest. It was another Rilan, but was most certainly not Rakesh. They were far too womanly for that to be so.
Kvothe’s eyes filled with curious, icy blue, and his annoyance at his assignment was temporarily forgotten as he approached her. “Pardon, Miss,” he said, hoping to catch her attention as he approached her, hand over chest as he dipped his head in a polite nod of greeting. “I don’t mean to interrupt, but… well, it’s not often that I see one of my own people here.”

[it's meh, but oh well! xD]
As she sat, Talau couldn't shake the unmistakeable feeling of being followed, watched...and...well, it didn't take long to figure out why. No sooner had she ordered a drink than a man entered the establishment. Normally this wouldn't have made her think twice, but not only was this one the epicenter of her feeling...he also had the unmistakeably sharp outline of her own people. Of course, everyone in here had an aura, but there was nothing quite like a Rilan aura to another Rilan...there was simply a very noticeable difference. It was the sort of difference one could notice looking at an object through murky water, compared to looking at the same object through perfectly clear and still water.
It was something she hadn't seen in....too long.
Watching him approach through veiled interest as she took a drink, a sort of aqua color permeated her eyes. His bid to catch her attention was mildly amusing to her, earning him the ghost of a smile as she looked up at him properly, his presence in the force washing against her easily, even as her own was drawn in to a level that would leave 'feeling' like little more than your average person. As he continued speaking that smile grew until it showed fully on her features as she nodded to him in turn. "We are a rare sight aren't we?" Her reply was smooth and even, as if she were both talking about the weather, but also not entirely surprised by the fact that she saw him there.
This wasn't to say she wasn't surprised, because she was, but slowly it was beginning to dawn on her that whatever she'd been drawn to before....well, it may have very well just found its way to her! Even if that wasn't the case, the young woman counted this side venture well worth it simply for coming into contact with another of her people....one who wasn't attempting to end her life, anyway. "Have a seat, won't you?" She paused a moment after motioning to the seat beside her, wondering if perhaps he didn't actually have time but his curiosity had gotten the better of him upon catching sight of her. "If you have time, that is...I don't want to keep you from anything important."

Kvother smiled slightly at the woman’s response. It was probably the first smile that’d warmed his face all day. “Very, it seems,” he said, shifting his weight to lean slightly on his bladed staff. “Especially here, in one of the quieter corners of the Galaxy.”
Though, with Rakesh’s recent appearance and now this woman, he began to wonder at the sudden convergence of Rilan on Aiaru. Coincidence, perhaps? The world was just off a major trade route, after all.
Fas did not share any of Kvothe’s concern for pondering how the fates aligned. Neither did he have any reservations about the woman; the flickercat went right up to her and made himself comfortable rubbing on her boots, purring quite contentedly as his tails bobbed lazily by the tabletop. “Don’t bother taking any time to introduce yourself, Fas,” Kvothe muttered, somewhat a mused despite his head shaking.
He could tell through the bond that Fas was quite content. And if this stranger was good enough for his familiar, she would be good enough for Kvothe.
"Have a seat, won't you?,” she said, motioning toward the seat next to her. "If you have time, that is...I don't want to keep you from anything important,” she added, after a momentary pause.
”I’ve taken showers more important than this patrol,” was what wanted to say. But, hot water wouldn’t begin to describe the trouble he’d be in with Bors if the old Sword heard about him complaining of his duties to a traveler, so he kept it to himself.
Instead, he smiled to the woman and nodded. “I’ve a bit of time, yes,” he said, settling into his seat. The staff, he leaned against the table. “Especially for one of my own people.
“And don’t mind Fas too much,” he went on, motioning to the flikcercat that’d settled to sit near her feet, apparently intrigued. “He’s a bit goofy at times, but he’s a fine companion.”
With a sigh, he settled down, making himself as comfortable as his white armor would allow. “Anyway, I’ve neglected to introduce myself. I’m Kvothe Algaterra.”

about how tall is Fas? I never did know just how high he might be at the shoulders...is he, like, normal cat tall? Dog tall? lion tall? xD (I really doubt the latter, but yeah)
As the odd feline rubbed itself along her boots the young woman couldn't help but chuckle. Not only was it the strangest looking cat-thing she'd seen...probably ever...but it's antics were amusing as well. She just hoped it didn't end up setting anything on fire. As it sat and looked up at her, her eyes colored themselves with vivid hues of green in wide threads through the aqua. Holding a hand out to the cat to let it sniff at her fingers, she looked back to the man who was settling himself as best he could into the seat beside her.
She was further amused by the vague hints of thought the man seemed to let float around. It wasn't anything more than wispy hints of emotion and intent, but it got the point across enough for her to guess at: he'd likely been more amused by watching paint dry than whatever he'd been doing previously. "Well I'm glad to hear that." He likely didn't know it, but the statement was meant to answer both his verbal and non-verbal replies...as was the further growth of amused green in her eyes.
Looking back down at the feline as he introduced it, she tilted her head a bit, hair swaying around her shoulders with the action. "Fas, eh? What is he? I've never seen anything like him before and..." she paused a moment at his introduction, looking back up to him and feeling her pupils narrow sharply as something...someone...within her stirred uncomfortably. Still, she smiled and hoped that this would be a good meeting rather than a poor one. "Nice to meet you, I'm Talau."
Holding out a gloved hand, she'd wait to see what sort of reaction the man may (or may not) have to her name.

“What’s Fas?” Kvothe grinned, a bit of pride showing on his face and in his voice. “He’s a flickercat. They’re a native species here on Aiaru. Usually found further down in the south, near the forests and swamps.” He looked down at Face, who’d decided to sit next to Talu, head stretched up by her knee with a look that beseeched rubbing. “He’s not normally so… adamant for attention, but hey, I guess he likes you.”
Fas’ reactions were, as ever, an echo of Kvothe’s own feelings. While he wasn’t going to be putting his head on the woman’s knee and asking her to scratch his ears anytime soon, he felt comfortable around her. He didn’t see any reason to be otherwise, especially with one of his own people.
He noticed the slight change her eyes at his name, but didn’t know what to make of it. Maybe there wasn’t anything to make of it. Threads of friendly green layered through his eyes as he smiled and nodded at her introduction. He extended a gloved hand to her own and shook, grip firm but not overly so.
“Pleasure to meet you, Talau,” he said warmly “As I said, it’s not often I see one of my own here. I’m sure Alethea would be pleased to know another of our kind has come, even if it’s just drifting by.”
Kvothe let her hand go and settled back into his seat, adjusting how he sat in his armor to make himself a bit more comfortable. “So what does bring you here, if I may ask? Something I might assist with, or drifting on the Mythos’ winds?”

There wasn’t so much as a glimmer of recognition at her name that she could see or sense. Strangely, Talau wasn’t’ certain if that was a good thing…or not. Still, he seemed genuinely pleased to meet her and that helped put her at ease just a bit more. Smiling good naturedly, she would reach down and pet the flickercat as she deftly picked out the places he would enjoy the attention the most. Pleasing animals like that always had made her happy, and again her thoughts turned to the aak dog that she’d grown so close to back on Haruun Kal. If only the Aaks were smaller in size…she just didn’t have the space for a land speeder in her rooms back at the temple.
As Kvothe continued, she’d tip her head to the side at the mention of another Rilan woman. A curious sort of steel blue filtered into her eyes. His question brought her back to the present, however. ”You could say it was the latter, I suppose. I felt something….the need to come here for some reason, but I don’t know why,” she answered honestly. She gave him a little smile and chuckled softly, shaking her head slightly as she looked back up at him from Fas. ”I have to say, I didn’t expect to meet another Rilan here, much less hear that there was another with you. What’s she like, this Alethea? What do you do here, yourself? I can sense the force in you but…I admit, I really don’t know anything about this planet at all.”

Kvothe nodded, smiling. “The Mythos can do that, at times. It’s often best to follow as it guides us.” He knew that well, from his own experiences both on Aiaru and across the Galaxy, when Bors sent him away to find himself. He’d resented the trip at first, but it turned out to be an enlightening change of pace, meeting Alindra, Rhissai and all the others.
Ironically, Bors’ purpose for that trip hadn’t been much different than forcing Kvothe to take on patrol duty today. And here he was, finding another opportunity…
He smiled a little more as Talau asked about Alethea. What wasn’t there to say about the old priestess? She’d lived long enough to have migrated to Aiaru from Rilia with his parents, had watched him and his brother grow into who they were today, for better or for worse.
“Alethea is a priestess,” he began, before knitting his brow. “Oooor… former priestess. Not sure if you have to give up the title when you leave Rilia or not. But she’ll always be a priestess to me.” He laughed softly and continued.
“She came to Aiaru with matere and patere. She’s…” Kvothe paused, almost laughing, silver threading through his eyes as he worked to summon the right words for the old priestess. “She’s old, but she’s still going strong. Wise, even with her occasional sass. And she’s never met a person she couldn’t make a friend. It’s almost hard to describe her. She might as well be my grandmother.”
And as for himself?
“Well, I’m a Sword of Diligence,” he answered simply, nodding. “More importantly, I’m a Stellar Mythic. We’re a… group of Mythos users — and some non-Mythos users — who… well, we do a lot of things. But mostly, we are devoted to knowledge. But we also fight, when we have to. I myself, am a fighter.” Kvothe leaned back with a chuckle, patting his white vambrace to emphasize the point. “Never really saw myself as much of an academic. But you never know. Maybe I’ll end up teaching the youngsters when I’m old.”
It was a very general overview of the Mythics but going into detail could take hours, and he’d hate to bore.
“What about you?” he asked, arching an auburn brow. “Are you… from Rilia? You don’t have an accent like Alethea’s, but I know they can vary.”

“The Mythos can do that, at times. It’s often best to follow as it guides us.” As the young knight sat there, she couldn't help but chuckle at his comment. Oh how true that was. Talau had given in to the force's guidance a long, long time ago ((in a galaxy far away, Naboo was under an attack... 'The Saga Begins')). It was unwise, she had decided, to attempt to fight it...and so she often allowed herself to make detours for it when she had the time to do so. "That's very true," she replied easily, giving her order to the server droid now that it had finally decided to come along. Food was a high priority to her right now, still, she listened more than a little intently as he spoke. Once the droid trundled away, the young knight turned her eyes back to Kvothe and smiled. "She sounds like a wonderful woman. I only know a little bit of the priestesses of our homeland, but I'd imagine a little sass wouldn't hurt anything." Chuckling at that, Talau smiled a bit more brightly. "I'd like to meet her some day. Still...for as little as I actually know of the priestesses, I know even less about these 'Stellar Mythics' you're part of of their ways of organizing themselves." Resting her chin on her knuckles, she'd gaze at him with a sort of curious intensity. Obviously this man had force abilities...and if he was part of an organization of them he likely had training in it. As he continued, she couldn't help but chuckle softly with his last comment. Those words had a distinct feeling of 'right' to her and it made her grin just a little. "You may be more correct than you know, Kvothe," she stated quietly as she continued to study both the man and the force. Thin threads of the stuff dangled around the man in her senses, many of them waving in her direction as if seeking to attach themselves. Hmm...so many possibilities...interesting. "Well, I'm a jedi knight...I was not born on Rilia. My family was forced from the planet generations ago, but we too had a priestess...at least that's my understanding. Well, we did until the events that lead to my being taken to the Order as a babe." She shrugged slightly at that, that calm smile only flickering for a moment at her words as flecks of grey dotted her eyes before seeping back once more. For a long moment she would fall pensively silent, deciding what more to tell him. Finally she would speak once more, pushing some of her dark brown hair back over her shoulder. "I am a sentinel, a sort of jack of all trades...as much as I can be, anyway. I've got quite a drive to be as versatile as possible for any number of reasons, not the least of which is survival in this crazy galaxy of ours." Laughing softly, she'd give him a playful little wink to mask just how serious a statement that was.
