A flash of black in the stream, lined with turquoise and shimmer, nearly glittering pink caught the girl's eye. The mighty hunter stalked her prey, walking along the edge of the river bank in quiet, careful steps.
The mud of the Naboo bank squished pleasantly, spongey and fertile, beneath her thick boots. No wonder this planet was so beautiful, the life that brimmed all around them was embedded in the very soil, in every gorgeous, colorful creature.
The lizard stopped its crossing, cocking its head up with shimmering slanted eyes, more at home on feline than the reptile. Her reflection, disheveled and still, peered back at her from their glassy surface as the critter seemed to weigh his options.
Could he escape this tall, terrifying monster? Or should he resign himself to the terrible fate of his impending capture and possible dismemberment?
After another long moment of stillness between predator and prey the lizard dash, skittering in its zizagging way across the banks, the lines of its back sparkling with retreat.
Moonfire Essense howled with delight, springing forward like a cat on a mouse into the dark mud, skidding with outstretched hands before scooping up her prize.
"AH HA!" She squealed giggling as she, ever so gently, held up her newest specimen whose heart fluttered powerful beneath her fingertips.
Holding up her first Nabooian lizard the girl grinned widely, turning the still creature in hand. "Its okay little one, I just want to get a good look at you. I'll release you before bed. I promise."
With another deft movement she carefully placed the striped reptile into his temporary home, a jar with a stick and leaf and closed the hole-punched lid watching him adhere to the side with the sticky pads of his fingers.
Fascinating.
But he needed a name. Turning about Moonfire looked for the zabrak that was too be her companion on this strange new world. Balkk had happily introduced her to the lad he'd taken from Tattooine as sort-of-second-apprentice, and while they'd had less than pleasant first encounter perhaps he'd enjoy her latest find?
"Hey, Shorza! Look what I got!" She called out, walking quickly towards him, jar outstretched. "What do you think I should name him?"

Among the tall grass that covered the majority of the rolling plains on much of Naboo's surface, a single purple blade whirred through the air. Shorza did not know what to do with himself and the free time he had, a first for the young Zabrak. In his previous life, earning money, working and travel, not to mention evading authorities, dominated nearly every waking moment that the child had. Now, however, the young man had more time to himself than he knew what to do with, and all he could think to do was train, plus the monotony and predictability helped ease his mind from the most recent issue plaguing it. His new "friend" Moonfire.
To say Shorza disliked her would be a massive understatement. The Zabrak practically hated her. She was everything Shorza was not, clumsy, unsure of herself, overly friendly to the point of insincerity, and she was most of all spoiled. The rose tinted glasses of a coddled little girl still covered her vision of the world, and yet they were forced to work together and treat each other as "equals" in Balkk's own words. The two of them ever being equal was as likely as a rancor writing a novel. In addition to this, Balkk had made it abundantly clear to Shorza that the Zabrak could never be a true Jedi, and yet this oaf could just skip her way to that role. Oh yes, Shorza hated her.
Strikes slowly picked up aggression in the field as Shorza channeled his anger and frustration into his movements, the lightsaber in his hands singeing the tops of the grass around him as he spun around and leaped through the air. Sweat slowly began to pool in the crevices of the Zabrak's red and black body as he moved, causing his shirt to hang more loosely from his body as the fibers expanded with moisture. Shorza and his new partner were not the only ones present in this lush green meadow however, as the young man's protector was present as well.
Hex, the massive hulking droid that accompanied Shorza just about everywhere sat off in the distance, a safe ways away from the swinging fury that was his charge. Hex was probably the happiest droid in the galaxy, basically the exact opposite mood of his creator at the moment. Hex finally did not have to live in constant anxiety for the small boy that he was programmed to protect. No more did Hex have to fear taking time to charge his energy cell, or leaving the boy to his own devices. No, now Shorza was in a safe environment away from crime, well fed, and no longer on the run from the law, well directly at least. Now Hex could relax his processor and let his charge more or less manage himself, a day Hex feared would never come.
Now Hex sat in the grass like a child, a large, two ton child, but a child none the less. The large robot was occupying himself with the flowers and bugs around him. All the life here made sense to the robot, not possessing the complex cultural and social cues Hex constantly struggled with. No here everything was easy to understand, and Hex was all too happy to observe it. Slowly Hex picked flowers and scooped up small bugs, watching the bright colors shine in the sunlight, or small legs scurry around his hand and fingers. This was probably the most content and at peace Hex had ever been, and he had no intention of ending it any time soon.
Off in a small creek nearby, Moonfire's voice came in a small excited tone, but Shorza tried to ignore it, not wanting anything to do with her at the moment. The Zabrak only let out another grunt as he made another leap into the air, swiping downward with his blade cleaving a large portion of vegetation in half. Only Hex showed any kind of response, slowly turning his head towards the noise, a small flower held gently in one of his hands.

While Shorza stewed in his abstract disdain for the young girl, she couldn't have been more pleased. A fresh, clean slate with a new friend! How incredibly thrilling! To have someone who didn't know all the foolish mistakes she'd made, who wasn't accustomed to the clumsy motions, or the stutter she developed in moments of anxiety. To have someone who didn't give her that pitying glance that she'd seen so often in the Temple since Teiko's death. Even Balkk, with his kindness and his firm guidance still treated her just slightly differently because he knew her history, he'd read the files and reports the Jedi had compiled in her years of service.
But, Shorza, the tattooed zabrak teenager knew none of these things. None that weren't immediately apparent anyway. He'd probably noticed by now that her saber skills were lacking, that her self confidence needed work. But he didn't know she'd never even made the Padawan tournament, nor barely even made being a Padawan. He a new realm of possibilities.
And he didn't seem to care for her at all.
But no matter, he'd warm up to her! This was a whole new life for them both, it just took adjusting. Plus Hex was so wonderful, the hulking sweet droid. Anyone who could program such a darling had to be sweet underneath the glowering blue eyes.
"Shorza!" She called again as he moved in steady even strokes through his saber stances, holding up the jar to the light, watching the dazzling lines and geometric patterns of the scales light up. "Look what I found by the creek! It looks like a male based on the coloring. Reminds me of one of the scuttlebacks on Ruusan, do you think they're related in someway?"
The dark haired girl beamed, picking up her bag from the ground beside him and shuffling through the find her notebooks and datapad, to sketch the little one.
"I'm trying to think of a name for him, do you think Tiberus is a good name? Maybe Clark?" Moonfire mused, unceremoniously dumping the bag over into the grass, shuffling the sparse contents about as she found her notebook and plopped down in the grass, crossing her mud streaked legs as she did.

Moonfire's voice rang in the Zabrak's black ears like grinding gears in a machine. All Shorza could do to contain his anger was clench his jaw, a sign of frustration Moonfire probably could not see at the distance she was yelling at him from. The young man tried his best to tune her out, closing his eyes and repeating the steps. 'Strike, block, return to center. Strike block return to center, leap...' the Zabrak repeated over and over in his head as he followed the motions with his body. Just before Shorza could leap again, Moonfire's voice rang out, once again disturbing the Zabrak's focus. In his anger the young man put just a tad too much effort into his push off of the ground and sent himself sailing just a bit too far and lost his footing. With a yell and a curse, Shorza fell to the dirt, the tall grass swallowing him whole.
Hex, who would normally have rushed to the Zabrak's aid, was too focused on Moonfire's lizard and his own flower to notice. Just as Shorza fell, Hex lifted up his flower above his head proudly, practically replying 'Look what I got!' only in silence. It was only the string of curses that Shorza let out that drew the droid's attention back to his charge. Hex quickly got to his feet, or well as quickly as he could, before stomping over to the young man. Hex arrived just as Shorza got to his feet, who quickly waved him off with, "I'm fine Hex. The fall wasn't bad... Well I shouldn't have fallen at all." Shorza grumbled mostly to himself as he glared at Moonfire who was scrambling her way towards him. Shorza looked up at the sky, sagged his shoulders and let out a long irritated groan before turning back to his new "partner".
"I'm trying to train Moonflame or whatever your name is, and I don't care about some stupid lizard." The Zabrak growled angrily as he flicked his saber back on and turned away from Moonfire, silently hoping she would just take a hint. Hex lifted and tilted his head at his charge in surprise. It was not unusual for Shorza to display anger and frustration, but usually there was a reason that Hex could point to, but to Hex, Moonfire was nice and agreeable. Hex did not understand why Shorza disliked her so, maybe she had offended Shorza some how. Hex could only guess, but his curiosity did not go unnoticed, as the young Zabrak soon quipped, "What Hex?"
His tone was sharp and clearly he was angry. Hex lowered his head slightly and diverted his gaze before once again taking a seat next to a small patch of flowers, slowly picking another one and resting his gaze on it.

Moonfire's small mouth pulled into a wide smile, showing the tiny white teeth as she looked over the flower Hex presented so proudly. It was a lovely specimen.
"Oh, Hex. That's so pretty! We had some just like it in the Temple Gardens on Coruscant. Oh, what was it called again..." She tittered with delight, flipping through her sketch as she sidled up next to the gentle automoton. Narrowing her own slanted eyes she peered at the flower, turning this way and that to inspect it. "Hmmm... Definitely part of the Araceae family... But this coloring, I think theres a specific name when its this shade... Zantedeschia aethiopica maybe?"
Moonfire's finger tapped contemplatively at her chin as she mulled it over, completely oblivious to her companion's growing agitation. "Would you like to save it, Hex? I have a flower press back on the ship, if we press it for a few weeks it'll be preserved and will stay beautiful forever. You can keep it as a memento while I figure out exactly what kind of flower it is." She beamed before Shorza tumbled over into the grass with a thud.
With a fumble off her own, Moonfire stood up just behind Hex as Shorza shooed him away, getting back to his feet.
"You okay, Shorza? Don't beat yourself up, we all fall sometimes." Her smile was bright and meant to be reassuring. Her smile though was returned with a snarl and she winced back visibly from the display.
"Moonfire," she corrected. "S-sorry. I just thought since we're on Naboo we should get acquainted with the wildlife a bit. It'd be a shame to leave without learning anything about the planet..."
Shuffled back awkwardly she held the jar still between her hand before looking back at Hex. "I think hes a Tiberius, what about you?"

Moonfire ran off a long list of words that Hex did not even begin to try to comprehend. Despite this, Hex made no move to stop her from speaking, rather enjoying having someone else around admire his flower. He did not even know that it was something to be proud of, he just enjoyed the bright colors. Hex was not aware of biology, evolution, or even complex naming of creatures. To him this flower was simply a flower, all flowers were flowers, they were all the same, and they all had the same name. None of that mattered however, as all Hex really noticed was the color anyway. At the talk of pressing the flower, Hex let most of the sentence fly over his head until Moonfire mentioned keeping it pretty 'forever'. Hex liked the idea of keeping the color, and quickly turned and extended his massive hand to her. The small flower was clasped delicately between the automaton's index finger and thumb as he handed it to Moonfire.
Shorza did not replicate his droid's affection for Moonfire however, with Hex's friendliness only exacerbating Shorza's already pent up anger. "-You- might fall, I don't." the Zabrak said curtly as he returned to his training. 'Who was she to compare the both of us?' Shorza thought to himself as he continued to repeat the motions over and over again. Despite the salty nature of Shorza's words, Moonfire continued to try and justify herself to him, only irritating him further. "Why would you want to learn anything about this place?" Shorza asked in a curt agitated tone as he continued to singe and trim the tall grass around him. "Remind you of home?" Shorza asked with a roll of his eyes. 'Maybe I'm being too hard on her.' The Zabrak thought to himself despite her voice continuing to set his teeth on edge.
As Moonfire turned to Hex, he looked down at her huddling behind him. If the droid could smile, he assumed this would be the time to do so. Something to calm the nervous child behind him, but sadly all Hex could do was stare at her and nod. Tiberius was an unfamiliar name, but he guessed that the name would fit the lizard, not that the mute droid had to worry about mixing up names.

"Well... Ummm... You did fall." Moonfire observed, brilliantly. Shorza seemed more and more agitated with her, no matter what she seemed to do. At least Hex didn't mind her, or if he did he certainly didn't say anything about it. In fact, he seemed quite pleasant most of the time, with that wide blank face and the gentleness of his action, even in the passing off of his precious discovery.
With the utmost care Moonfire went to work taking the colorful plant and tucked it carefully between the pages of her notebook. She'd have to sketch Tiberius later, after the flower was in her press safe from the dangers of damage or wilting.
Giving Hex a most reassuring pat she continued. "I'll just hold on to it for now, Hexie and when it's done pressing I'll give it back. If you'd like to help me find more plants maybe we can find some nice herbs or other pretty things for the ship?"
"Why would you want to learn anything about this place? Remind you of home?" Shorza teased, the irritation rolling off his tongue as the sizzle of the blade through the tall grass crackled in her ears.
"W-why wouldn't you?" The girl asked, puzzled, hands moving for the shoulder length braid that rested comfortably against her shoulder, separate from the irresponsibly long mass of her hair. Pale fingers twitched over the beads she'd woven into it that morning, anxious. "Whats the point of traveling and training if you don't learn anything?"

Shorza only grumbled in response to Moonfire's astute observation, silently blaming her for all his current problems. Once again the young Zabrak returned to his stance, ready for further training, hopefully undisturbed this time. Behind the young man, the droid nodded slowly to the girl. Hex had always liked bright colors, they stirred his optics with how starkly they contrasted with everything else around them rather pleasantly. At the mention of finding more, Hex responded eagerly, wishing to find more things that he liked.
Hex gave Shorza one quick look, hoping that his young companion would not be upset, but all the automaton got in response was a nod and a wave of the hand. Shorza would be glad to get his aggravating partner as far from him as possible, not really minding that Hex was with her. Slowly the Zabrak let out a sigh of relief as he heard the heavy footsteps of his droid trod off into the distance. Shorza hoped the source of his irritation was in tow, and not lingering behind for some reason.

Hex seemed more than willing to leave behind the snarly youth, but Moonfire wasn't quite so quick to give in. She stood still for a long moment, watching him. The straight arc of his saber as he moved through each movement, each stance of Shii-Cho. A smile tugged at the girl's face as she started to tromp through the grass about him watching unabashedly from every possible angle.
Maybe Moonfire was going about befriending him all wrong? Rather than trying to share what she found fascinating she could try and work on what he liked?
"You know, Shorza... You're really picking this up quickly. Just between yesterday and today you've improved!" The girl gushed, completely genuine as she tried, rather in vain, to catch his eye.
"Maybe you could use a partner to practice?!" Moonfire chimed in, excitedly. "Not like, sparring..." No it was too early for that, Balkk wasn't around to supervise, but maybe something a little more traditional for new trainees? "I mean... I'm not sure if Master Balkk brought a remote droid but maybe I could help you"
Looking from side to side the girl smiled, letting a variety pebbles and little stones float up from the tall grass and begin to float and rotate around her in little orbits, little moons of her own.
"I could throw these one at a time and you try to block them? I mean... If you'd think it could be helpful? Like an old-fashioned remote droid." The dark haired girl shrugged again, watching as the little river stones and pebbles spun in slow arches about her.

It seemed the trotting off of heavy footsteps did not bring Shorza the silence he craved. With a sigh, the black and red hand of the Zabrak lowered his blade, "Yeah, that's the reason I've been training... You know, to get better?" Shorza said as if she was the dumbest person he had ever met. Slowly the Zabrak let out a long breath, letting his muscles take in the moment and rest.
It was not long before the Zabrak was running his mouth again, taking up it's usual snarkiness,"What'sa matter Mooney? Don't want'a cross blades with me?" the young man said rather sharply as he turned his head slightly to the side with his companion at his back. Shorza did not even give the girl a full moment to respond before turning to face her fully, his head angled down so his blue eyes locked on hers under his brow, a cruel smile on his face. "I mean if you're afraid, that's fine." Clearly it was not fine however, as the Zabrak chuckled softly, practically mocking her.
Off in the distance, the automaton scoured the side of the creek, searching for anything colorful to focus on. Hex was completely unaware that Moonfire had not followed him, nor did he seem to really mind. The droid was the perfect image of serenity, not a worry in the world. For so long the droid had spent every waking moment in anxiety or fear, dreading what one angry outlaw might do to his loud mouthed companion. Shorza did nothing to make this any easier, only compounding the burden on the droid's processors. Now, Shorza was safe, had a purpose, and Hex was free to do whatever he wanted. As the droid continued to ponder this however, he soon began to realize that he did not know exactly what he wanted to do.
Slowly the droid sank into a sitting position in the small creek, deep in thought. 'What do I do now?' The droid asked himself as water slowly compensated for the new obstacle in it's path, flowing around the black husk that was Hex. The eye-pieces of the droid focused absent-mindedly on the infinitely pouring liquid as his mind whirred. Hex had spent so long thinking only of Shorza, protecting him, and keeping him safe that the droid no longer knew what to do with himself now that the child was safe. As conflict grew off in the distance between the two jedi, Hex only sat, oblivious to anything but the water before him and his own thoughts.

The girl frowned sharply, blue eyes darting back and forth from his own merciless gaze to the tall grass that surrounded them. His words were biting, vicious in their way and she flinched visibly in response. The little rotating pebbles continued their orbit, though floundering now, more erratic as the girl tried to find the words.
"N-n-no." Moonfire nearly sputtered, shrinking away from his face, mocking and much too close. "I-it's just we're not supposed to spar without M-master Balkk." The human grasped at straws, eyes peering out for an exit. "As well, it wouldn't exactly be an evenly matched fight... I'd been doing Shii-Cho for a few years now and you've only just gotten a lightsaber..."
The breeze picked up some and ruffling the grasses about their feet and the shimmer of a critter caught the girls attention, immediately drawing her away from the intensity of Shorza's loathing.
"Oh! Look!"

At the sight of the wavering pebbles cracked the steely gaze of the Zabrak. With a sigh Shorza lifted one hand up to his eyebrows before pinching them together in a sign of irritation. "Fine just throw the rocks." Shorza groaned as he tried to calm himself. 'Why can't she just go look at stupid lizards in the stupid stream?' The young man thought to himself as he activated his blade once more.
"Waitwaitwait, what? Not a matched fight? With you?" Shorza paused for a second before letting out a loud laugh. Slowly the Zabrak lifted a finger and wiped away a tear from his eye, "Like you'd know which end of your lightsaber the blade came out of." Shorza quipped still slightly chuckling as his blade singed the ground next to him. In his laughter, Shorza barely took notice of anything around him, much less some lizard he had no interest in.
"Come on Moonfire, you and I both know I'd wipe the floor with you." The Zabrak said in a calm tone as he smiled at her for the first time since they met, but not quite in the way Moonfire had probably hoped.

The little stones swirled and whirled about the young girl with renewed vigor at the sound of his agreement. Moonfire beamed brightly, the lines forming about the sides of her broad grin, thin eyes nearly closed with pleasure at the very idea. Here she was, Moonfire Esense, finally making a break through with the sulky teen-aged Zabrak! Victory at last!
"Oh, excellent! Don't you worry, Shorza I will be far better than any remote droid. This will be excellent training for the both of us, I can work on my concentration and telekinesis while you work on your Shii-Cho and--" The words tumbled out in an enthused round of blathering, blathering quickly cut off by the loud barking laughter of Shorza, whose blue eyes turned wicked and sharp.
"I-I-I was just saying, I mean-" The girl unconciously took another step back, feeling the little antsy-creepy-crawlies work their way from the pit of stomach to just beneath the skin, trembling in time with her quickening heartbeat."I know which end the blade comes out of."
"I have been lightsaber training since I was very young. M-Master Si Quan says I am quite competent." Her voice small, squeaky almost as she cringed away from the easily flung abuses. "W-we can't spar with out Master Balkk, so its a foolish argument. M-maybe in a f-few weeks."

Shorza could sense the nervousness suddenly emanate from his fellow apprentice and sighed softly. "Moonfire..." Shorza said cutting her off in an attempt to get her to focus, "Just throw the damn rocks." The young Zabrak sighed softly before speaking again, this time in a slightly softer tone, "Look Moonfire, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Despite the truth of his words, Shorza's tone conveyed slight irritation. The young man had never been the best at apologizing, and this was no different. ~Ugh why does she care so much what I think of her?~ Shorza thought to himself as he gently lifted a hand and rubbed the back of his head, taking extra care to avoid pricking himself on his horns as he often did when irritated.
Much to the young man's relief, the first stone came flying at him. ~Finally no more conversation...~ Shorza thought to himself as he let his body sink into the familiarity of muscle memory. Purple split each stone with a soft sizzle or whir as they came close, but this training would not last forever however. Suddenly a loud, rather strange sounding, squawk pierced the air from the area where Hex had been resting, distracting both of the padawans from their practice. Before either of the pair could move to investigate, the large imposing figure of Hex emerged from the creek bed, with another creature hoisted up in the air. "Let meesa go! Let meesa go!" the Gungan yelled angrily as it jabbed at it's captors metal torso with a sharpened stick.
Hex was currently carrying the unfortunate local by the leg upside down, and seemed slightly confused as he approached his companions. Shorza let out a loud laugh before buckling over to rest his hands on his knees to keep from toppling to the ground. Mid laugh the Zabrak spoke, "He-Hex haha-what are you doing?" Hex lifted up his hand in response and pointed quickly at his captive, like a child might point at a sibling to snitch on them. Shorza only laughed further as the captive Gungan continued to bellow and curse in his species strange accented basic, all the while jabbing uselessly at Hex. Clearly, neither Shorza nor Hex seemed to be paying the Gungan much mind, and one of them seemed to be enjoying the scene more than they should.

"Just throw the damn rocks," Shorza sighed, voice still agitated plainly. But at least he wasn't being rude. Pale hands shook uneasily as she struggled to pull it together, the nervous energy lashing out in sickly tendrils as the girl shifted from side to side. The rocks wavered with her unease as her chest filled with a long, rickety breath.
The first stone struck out, shaky and with poor trajectory yet still caught in the smoothness of his saber slice. Another now, a little better, cut away in a whirl of the blade. Focus. Steel. The flattest of the stone skipped out now, cutting a truer path towards him as Moonfire's mind found peace in the task. Oxygen filled her lungs, the taste of the sweet Naboo grass on the wind as the dizzy, buzzy feeling in her head melted away, taking with it the shuddering of her stomach.
The dark haired girl threw herself in the task now, rocks whizzing with more speed and frequency now, each deftly deflected by Shorza's lightsaber. In perfect tandem they worked, one rock after another, cut and toss. Slice and sling. Their movements so fluid and natural that the world around her melted away, just the weight of the stones on her will as they floated in peppy circles about her, tossed one after the other.
So focused was she that the sudden squawk of some mystery creature wrenched the girl away just as a stone flung out, wide and directionless until it landed square and hard against Shorza's skull.
"What the?" The girl's brow furrowed, oblivious to whatever pain her companion might be feeling, the remaining stones dropping about her feet as she ran out across the plains towards the massive droid.
"Hexy! Hexy no! Thats not a critter!" Moonfire cried out, arms flailing with the motion. "Hexy put him down!"

Shorza's head jerked back with the force of the rock impacting it before he let out a cry in pain. What words followed the outburst were nothing short of revolting as the Zabrak spat out a slew of curses and swears in every language he could think of before addressing Moonfire directly, "What the hell idiot?!" Shorza roared in fury as he rubbed his aching forehead with one hand, his other going for the rock that had recently caused him so much discomfort.
Beneath his red hued skin, Shorza's blood boiled in anger. Normally Shorza followed the Jedi code almost flawlessly, but when he was around Moonfire, Shorza could not help but become angry. She was just so sheltered and entitled, and yet she felt that she and Shorza were equals somehow. It ground against every nerve in the young man's body. He had fought too hard, worked for too long, and been through hell to get to where this innocent girl was, and what had she done for it? Been born! And complained!
All of Shorza's pent up anger was coming to a head, and all the boy could see was red. With all his might, Shorza threw the rock back at the girl once he was close enough just as his robotic companion was setting down the creature it had caught. All the laughter and humor that Shorza had once found in the sight before him were gone as he watched the small stone rocket towards his fellow padawan.

Moonfire, as always, was blissfully ignorant to the hatred searing just beneath the surface of her companion in training. Shorza had made it plainly clear that he found her a nuisance, sure. And perhaps she was one. Moonfire had never been particularly skilled as far as Padawans went, even her Youngling group had cast pitying glances in her direction when enduring her turn in group Shii-Cho demonstration. But the idea that someone could hate with such ferocity, a ferocity almost entirely directed at herself, was ridiculous. Wasn't it?
"Hexy, put him down!" The girl cried again, flailing in the direction of an extremely upset gungan that the droid had only just begun lowering. Hex was a good droid indeed, curious and pleasant, but didn't quite understand the difference between lizards and gungans it seemed. As Hex finally set the poor man down Moonfire began to gush apologies.
"I am so sorry, Hexy is very nice and I swear he mean't no harm, isn't that rig-" But her words were cut off by searing white pain.
Moonfire's face was cold as stars burst across her vision. Why was her face cold? Her hands clutched the grass that barely tickled against her cheek, wet squishy mud beneath it. She was laying on the ground, face down as the numbness on the back of her head began to roar to life, throbbing sharp pain. She laid there for a moment, gears turning as the girl tried to figure out what had happened before slowly rising up from the muck on one elbow, tears forming in her eyes.
A pale mudstreaked palm moved spot the stone struck, feeling the sharpness of the pain and more gooey wetness. Red tipped her small, short nailed figures. Blood.
The tears began to flow more freely as she glanced between the people around her, unsure of who or what had happened. Her mouth trying to form the words 'Why?' but only squeaky half-noises came out. Why would someone hit her like that?

The instant the rock impacted Moonfire's head, Shorza regretted his action, but it was far too late now. As Moonfire fell into the river, Shorza rubbed the back of his head nervously, his face beneath his tattoos burned bright red with embarrassment. As slowly as he could, the Zabrak child approached the edge of the river, his gut churning with concern for his training partner. "Moonfire-" Shorza tried to say softly before cutting himself off.
As Moonfire teared up, a large metal hand scooped her up. Hex saw the entire thing play out, and could not understand why Shorza would hurt his friend. Hex genuinely liked the little girl, she was nice and talked about stuff he could not begin to understand. Slowly the large gauntlet pulled the tiny crying girl into it's owners lap as a single large eye leaned down to focus on her injury, not that Hex knew the first thing about human anatomy. Slowly the sheepish voice of Shorza pierced the sounds of soft crying.
"Aw jeez Mooney... I-uh I'm real sorry." Shorza tried to say as honestly as he could as he felt his face warm up to boiling hot temperatures. "Are-uh are you okay?" the accented nervous tone of the padawan came again as it's source slowly closed in, his saber receding as he did. In all honesty, Shorza was indeed genuinely sorry for hurting Moonfire, but he still felt a small amount of anger towards her, even if it was only slightly so.

Cold, smooth metal scooped the girl up, cradling her against the droid's large chest. The world blurred and shifted with every blink of her eyes the tears flowing down her face as she cried silently, pressing her face into the unyielding comfort of Hex's bulk.
After a long moment, another hitching breathe to steady herself Moonfire pulled away from Hex's grip, taking a few shakey steps back on her feet as she wiped futilely at the streaming grime of her cheeks. Shorza's voice wavered as he gave apologies but Moonfire merely waved them away.
"I-I-I'm al-alright." She sputtered out, still trying to wipe the tears away, replaced seconds later by more. "I-I-I..."
She didn't know what she was trying to say, the crushing shame of her reaction. The pounding of her heart and the blood throbbing in her ears. Spinning dizziness as the anxiety that bubbled just beneath the surface seemed to boil over, causing her knees to shake.
Another hitching breath, Moonfire turned back to the ship. "I'm g-g-oing inside."

As she passed, Shorza tried his best to apologize to Moonfire, "Moonfire wait-I..." But by the time his words left his lips, Moonfire was already at the ship. If the Zabrak's face wasn't entirely red or tattoed all over already, his blush of embarrassment would be rather obvious. Was Shorza angry when he threw the rock? Yes of course. Was he still angry? A bit. Then why did he feel bad? Surely Moonfire deserved that right? Shorza was not sure. Whether Shorza could justify hitting his fellow padawan or not, he still felt an awful churning in his gut about it.
The red and black shoulders of the Zabrak child slowly sagged as Shorza watched Moonfire leave his view. Just as she did, the soft footsteps of Hex came plodding up behind the young padawan. Before Shorza could turn to face his companion, a hard object hit him in the back of the head. "Hey what's the big idea-" Shorza said angrily before he turned to see Hex holding up one hand, having flicked the child in the head. "Oh..." Shorza knew what his protector was trying to say, and at the moment, really did not want to hear it. Hex had been programmed to obey the child completely, but that did not seem to ever stop the droid from having it's own opinions. For whatever reason, Hex seemed to take to Moonfire, and was currently a bit disgruntled at seeing her hurt.
"Yeah yeah I got it Hex, 'I'm sorry I shouldn't have thrown a rock at you even though you're stupid a-'" Another flick silenced the child as Hex gestured with his head towards the ship. "Ow! Hey look bolts-for-brains-! Oh okay..." Shorza growled before heading off towards the ship as Hex lifted his hand, threatening another flick. All the while as he walked, Shorza grumbled to himself, clearly disliking having to to be forced to apologize, but deep down he still could not shake the feeling that he did not like what he had done.
