Talau, for all of the paranoia and caution she had lately, was at ease....at least she looked like she was at ease. Out here, in the tall grasses outside of Kuat City, the woman let herself relax a little in a way she didn't dare in the buzz of the city....any city.....she let her presence unfold from around her. It was too risky in the city, where it was simpler to sneak up on her, but out here in the middle of open land it wouldn't be quite as easy, and certainly there would be fewer casualties if one of the morequai managed to catch up to her.
The past week and a half had been a roller coaster of emotion...Vance eschewing her presence, Jazen's terse (almost harsh) conversation, discovering an underground bunker with a former Morheru....and on this very planet! At least Locke had been the same person she remembered. More and more she was discovering how out of step she was with the rest of the galaxy after seven years handling the resistance on Rilia. If she hadn't needed to be out here chances were she'd have gone right back...but no, she had to be persistent and resilient.
The soft rustle of the tall grasses against each other reminded her of Rilia...the planes of Noreha. It was a soothing sound, like the waves of an ocean almost. It also reminded her of Cerea. Perhaps she'd make a visit there at some point...just for herself. Still, that wasn't a priority. For now she'd have to settle herself with a few moments where she could let herself relax and flow with the Winds. Her presence drifted along on it, sweeping this way and that almost lazily as one thing or another disturbed the currents and drew her attention. Her presence was a great mixture of emotions....sorrow, pain, anger, hope, determination, fear duty....loss.
Every one of these she plucked at, studied, analyzed....trying to accept each for what it was, why it was, and better learn about it...and about herself. It wasn't a simple task for someone raised as a jedi....but she was learning. The Feanturi were good teachers, but this was a process she didn't often have time to go through...now, out here, and finally with a moment in her mind to herself, she was able to spend just a bit of that time with herself and her sabers, going slowly through her katas as she focused on her tangle of emotions.

Rumors had risen about Imperials lurking around Kuat. And considering there were major Republic shipyards there, any rumor had to be treated seriously. And nothing said "The Jedi are taking it seriously" like sending their ugliest, most beaten-down Jedi Knight over to inspect and make a mess of things in his own inimitable way. So away he went on a fancy shuttle, with his modified Nagai armor beneath his robes and a full brace of Stuff at his belt; lightsaber, blaster, ancient vibrosword.
If he wasn't ready for it, whatever it was, then it was probably too much to handle and he might wind up dead. And who would miss him? Nobody! The thought was oddly freeing, and he smirked to himself as the shuttle came in for a landing. Although on his face, it looked more like a snarl.
Naturally one of the first people he met was a Dark Jedi. That would have blown it there and then had he not been hiding his presence in the Force, something he was long in the habit of doing. But the dark one ignored him and went about her business, so he followed her to a nearby speeder, which of course he hijacked and began an impromptu high-speed interrogation.
It went very well as they careened through the city, steadily heading for the outskirts; he got a couple names, an address, some more dark rumors. Sadly it all came to a screeching halt, literally, when she took control back and brought them crashing to a stop not ten feet from where Talau was practicing. Of course Tajima managed to jump free, but the Dark Jedi wasn't so lucky. That didn't stop him from turning around and ripping the door off to try and pull her out before the thing was consumed by flames, of course.
"Dammit, she dead," he muttered, staring blankly down at the lifeless body. He sighed and let it fall with a flat thump in the grass. "Shit, now wha'm I g'wan do?" He glanced at Tal and gave her a nod. "S'on yer min'?" It was hard to say if he'd noticed her beforehand, of course.

It had been a pleasant and slow flow of movement as Talau worked her way through the motions of her dual handed form. Almost lazy, really. That is to say...it was, until there was a noticeable shift in the steady, smooth, flow of the Winds around her that had her pulling herself up straight again, those sabers deactivating as that shift became a warning, and that warning was danger.
Stepping backward twice, she twisted about and dove into a tumble that brought her back to her feet just as the shriek of speeding metal cutting through air reached her ears and the ground shook slightly with the impact of the, now mangled, speeder.
Immediately her presence twisted and recoiled around her as she packed her presence down, nearly vanishing from the force to the senses of anyone around...including the man who landed half a second later, sending the mangled door flying back toward her. With a flick of Talon, the violet saber sliced the metal in half as Talau took a half step back to narrow her profile, allowing the two pieces to skim past her, leaving her in makashi's opening stance, just...sideways.
That brown mane of hair and feathers settled around her shoulders as she stared at him, grey eyes barely threaded with a surprised yellow. "Quite a lot...namely, who are you and what the frell is all of this about? I suggest you start talking, or we may have a problem, you and I."
Talau didn't much look like a jedi with her leather armor, desert-ish colored cloak, blue armored boots and gauntlets, but her belt was standard issue. It was well cared for, but had seen a lot of use. Still, that didn't mean that she wasn't without her issued back up in case some investigator or another shadow tried to get uppity.
...Little did she know...

Tajima hadn't missed the sound of a lightsaber going off, and wondered what had happened. He got his answer when he turned to acknowledge Tal; it seemed he had thrown the door in her direction? Whoops. His eyes flicked up and down before he spoke any further, taking in her clothes, her feathery hair, the swirling eyes. Pretty, he thought to himself, glancing down at the purple 'saber. That was a Makashi stance, it was, for all that she was sideways. But that was smart by itself; less profile to present in case any errant missiles came flying out.
Hrm. No smell of the Force to her, although that 'saber in her hand spoke otherwise. He stood facing her, black robes pulled tight about his scrawny frame, his three weapons dangling from the belt cinched about his narrow waist. He took, kept a lid on his own Force signature.
"I'se Tajima," he called back, keeping a respectful distance of about fifteen feet between them. Easy enough for him to cover in less than the blink of an eye, of course. He kept his hands open and to his sides, although he did not raise them yet. That was a dumb move when faced with a possible enemy!
That hair, though... was she a... a Rilan? It wasn't impossible, but how many other races had feather hair? Any other time and he'd be a bit awestruck at possibly running into a myth, but right here and now he had to keep his wits about him.
"Put yer glowstick away 'n we'll palaver, aye? I ain't'na 'abit a' talkin' at glow-point," he went on, not backing down or moving forward. His scarred face was calm, a little severe, and his muddy eyes, slightly slanted, blinked now and then to keep from drying out. Staring contests were stupid, he knew.

Palaver?
Talau peered at the man and his weapons, his stance, as much about him as possible. He was hidden in the force and so those intensely fierce eyes were all she had to work with...that...and the Winds.
Slowly her eyes moved from him to the area directly around him. To him it may have seemed like she were looking at nothing, but Talau saw something much different. Those grey and vaguely violet eyes were studying the swirl of muddy brown, fiery orange and fine strands of silver that seemed to struggle to remain visible through the murky coloring.
Slowly that saber eased down, but was not shut off. "Tajima, hmm?Talau. What do you know of morequai?" It may have seemed an odd question, but everything hinged upon his answer...and if she believed it.

Tajima squinted his eyes and cocked his head in confusion. "More-what?" he demanded, having no idea what she was talking about. "More-quay? More..." He shook his head and gave up, but his hands drifted closer to his weapons as irritation warred against discretion.
"Lookit, we ain't gots n' time fer twenny-questions 'n shit, 'kay? They's Imperials 'round 'ere, 'n they's after th' shipyards. If'n yer any good wi' that glowstick a' yers come 'n 'elp, yeah?"
Of course, that begged the question of how to get back to the city in time to do... whatever it was that had to be done. He glanced around again, ignoring the burning wreckage; did Talau have her own speeder nearby? With a sigh he pinched his nose, and released the cloak he held around his Force presence.
He had always been glad he'd learned to reduce and conceal his Force signature. It tended to draw attention, and it tended to loudly announce that Hey! Here's a Jedi! Come and get me! On the great Jedi Temple he could blend in, but out here? Who knew what attention he'd draw?
Seconds later he brought the Concealment down again, and regarded her with a stoic expression. "So?" he asked, crossing his arms over his too-thin chest.

"More-what?"
That, and the following attempts, seemed to be good enough for her. That violet saber flickered out, but wasn't yet replaced on her belt. The silver hilt of Helluin was, however; the unlit blade clipped at the small of her back beneath the cloak in it's holder. She hadn't quite been paying attention to the initial start of his rant but the mention of imperials brought the full brunt of her attention onto him.
So...he was hunting imperials?
"You're a Jedi?" she asked bluntly.

"Yes!" Tajima replied sharply, eloquent in his impatience. "Yes, I'm a Jedi! Yes, I'm on a mission! Yes, I might need help!"
He stopped abruptly, sighed and made an effort to control himself. She was putting her weapons away, after all, no sense blowing it by blowing up. "Imps is try'na git th' shipyards, aye? Can't let 'em, gotta git back t' city 'n run 'em down," he went on in his usual accent. "An' as y' c'n see, me ride's blown." He waved pointlessly at the wreckage.
"So th' point is... c'n I get a ride?"
He dearly hoped she had a ride...

"You had me at yes."
That simple reply earned a shift of demeanor in the woman as flickers of her presence seeped out to probe around.
"...and sort of. Follow me."
With that the form of the woman blurred as she took off, letting her speed sing through her as she headed for the tree line. It was a bounding sort of run, much like a gazelle, that ate up ground at a remarkable pace for someone a good foot shorter than the epicanthix. The tall grasses didn't seem to trouble her at all.
In fact, it was quite a freeing feeling for the woman.
Upon reaching the trees she swept a bundle of branches aside, certainly enough to make the speeder bike below look like a bundle of brush. Straddling it, she keyed it up and inched forward to make room for him. Hopefully enough.
"Wasn't expecting company..."

As fast as Talau was, Tajima had no trouble keeping up with her. He loved a good run as much as the next person, and if his stamina was any good he'd run more often. Oh well. He followed after her, his form also a blur as he felt the exhilaration of pushing himself. Damn, another fast person? Too bad the Jedi frowned on attachments.
They reached the speeder, and he succeeded in hiding a grimace. Two people on a one-seat bike? Good thing he was light, and he figured she was light too.
"Me neither," he muttered in reply, settling in behind her. It was rather tight, and he spent a few moments suppressing whatever embarrassing physical reaction his body might choose to come up with. "S' git it over wit'."

Talau was heavier than she appeared, but even with that considered the bike was plenty strong enough to carry both of them. His suppressed grimace wasn't lost on the woman, earning a slight huff of a chuckle and a very vague smirk...which only intensified as she felt his discomfort at their proximity. That closeness did more than just let her feel his physical presence....it helped to give further hints to his emotional state. In return she allowed a touch of her amusement seep out, followed by a comforting wave of emotion, sort of like a gentle pat-pat on his shoulder, meant to ease his discomfort despite her own sense of amusement.
It rarely failed to amuse her when a guy felt uncomfortable at being close to her.
"Don't fall off, alright?" she stated, that sense of amusement managing to seep into her tone. "May want to hold on. I promise not to think you're getting fresh." With that she hunkered down over the speeder to help the aerodynamics of the thing as they shot off back toward the city and along the edges of it to get closer to the landing pads that could take them up to the KDY. In the mean time, she opened those vault-like barriers to her mind just enough to seek a telepathic link with him to make speaking easier with the wind in their ears.
--I'm sorry for my reaction, but I have to be very careful these days...I'm Shadow Talau Firians. What details can you give me about your mission? I'll help however I can.--

Tajima had the sense she was laughing at him, and he hated being laughed at. But he put his feelings aside and focused on the mission, settling one hand on her hip and gripping the bike with his legs; his other hand he kept near his blaster just in case. There is no emotion there is peace, he told himself.
The touch of another mind to his wasn't something he had done in a while, but he remembered the way of it easily enough.
--Tajima Yasaotoko, Jedi Knight and former Shadow. I'm tracking down rumors of Dark Jedi and Imperials on the planet, and I met one already.--
His mind's voice was much more articulate, clearly.
--I managed to interrogate her briefly before the crash. Two names: Hsi'rhak and Lorrusza, possibly her fellows, or possibly local traitors. My creds are on the latter. And the name of a building which I think is in Kuat City: the Avena Court Gardens. Some kind of apartment complex, maybe. I don't have any other leads, so we should check out that place. Unless you think it'd be faster just to head up to the shipyards?--

--Avena Court Gardens? I don't know it...-- she admitted, thinking. That connection would give him a glimpse into the roiling and churning thoughts that lay beneath the hardened surface. She was far from an emotionless woman. No. Talau felt everything deeply, that much he would be able to tell, though much more than that and the fact that her mind was constantly working overtime was about all he would be able to glean with this small connection. --Former? Well, it's a pleasure, either way. If you managed to get an idea of where this building is, guide me there...it's attached more to you than myself for now so I can't follow the threads as easily while driving.--
Talau didn't seem a bit ashamed at the fact that she couldn't manage both at once. If anything, there would be a sense that she trusted the man implicitly with being able to guide her to where they needed to go.
--Did you happen to gather what race these two may be? I need as much information as possible if I'm to help you track them down...that or I'll have to connect with you more fully to guide us. I don't recommend that, however. It's rather an intimate connection and most are not comfortable with my being that close to the core of them,-- she warned. --Better to do some sleuthing around the building.--

--One's a Trandoshan and the other is a Twilek I think, or so I gathered from her fearful thoughts. The building is probably in the slums; no doubt it wasn't always a slum.--
For her part, Tal would pick up on Tajima's embarrassment, and his own feelings that ran heavier than the Jedi would consider wise. His thoughts weren't as fast moving as hers, though. Definitely a man for the moment, despite being a Jedi. He thought about it for a few moments, then shrugged.
--Just head for the slums and we'll see if anyone put signs up. Apartments always have advertising, right? We'll find them.--
Tajima was definitely confident!

The slums?
--We can try it, but there's not an easy way up from the slums....they would have to cross practically the entire city to get to the rings easily...-- she mused. --Hold on tight.-- With that she opened herself up further, but not fully, as she leaned sharply to the left, the speeder bike turning hard in that direction as she started the cut across the city to the slums. Like this she could ride the currents of the Winds, feeling the eddies and pull of it around her as she wove in and out of the daily traffic like a kath hound on the trail of prey.
She didn't have much to work off of, but if she was going to act like his partner in this, then she had to use what she could to help and trust that he would cover the angles she may miss, be it in finding the building or avoiding traffic. As opposed to her churning thoughts outside of the city her mind had become focused like the sharpest blade, a ferocious need to undo any enemy of the Republic that may harm its citizens or rip it apart from the inside bubbled up...and rather than suppress it she took hold of it, owned it and honed it into fuel and resolve that stretched out into her presence, clearing out anything else that may distract from the sensations of the force which would lead them to accomplishing their goals. It didn't overtake her, but instead she claimed it and ruled it.

Tajima kept an eye out as they sped through Kuat City, dodging traffic and pedestrians with ease. Dimly he registered that she was a hell of a flier, and wondered what he could learn from her if she felt like teaching. Most of his attention was on looking for this place, however.
It occurred to him that maybe it was a trap, set by a desperate Imperial who knew her time was up. He communicated this thought with Talau.
--I'm sorry, I just realized this might be a trap. Best be on guar- WAIT! There, there!--
His hand squeezed her hip, and he pointed ahead, where an ominously dark old tenement in the shadow of much larger buildings lurked. A sign, broken and blinking, said A-ENA CO--T GA-DE-S
--That has to be it, right there! I can feel it!--
Trap or not, they were coming in hot...

It wasn't so much that Talau was good at flying as she was extremely gifted with sense. It could guide her more swiftly than any normal thought could. As it stood she could have closed her eyes and flown almost as good. Her old master's mantra of 'feel, don't think' was practically burned into every muscle and nerve of her. To her the motion of energy around her was what had her leaning to and fro to bring them grazing past other speeders and narrowly avoiding collisions. She trusted in the Winds, the Force, completely...she had given her whole life over to it long ago, and this was just another show of her pure and complete trust in it.
His words about a trap earned a vague sense of acknowledgement from the woman before that attention came sharply around to him and then up where he pointed.
--Right. We're not coming at them this way...-- she stated, sweeping off to the right as she slowly let off of the throttle, weaving about in the traffic and coming around to the back of the building at a much more civilized pace. Upon parking she politely nudged his hand from her hip and dismounted the speeder bike, tugging her cloak over her shoulders and pulling her hood up just enough to hide her hair and all the feathers in it...which, considering how close he'd been, he would have been able to see they were tied in and not actually part of her hair.
"Well, we're here in one piece, that's a good start!" she stated.

Tajima's powers of Sense weren't too bad either, for all that he preferred to focus on Body abilities. But right then, as they slowed down and circled around for a subtle approach, all he was sensing was that things would be awkward between the two of them. He had sometimes struggled with self-control, and he'd felt her emotions beneath that razor focus, that dedication to the Force itself.
They came to a stop, and he removed his hand from her hip as she jumped down, and he followed too. He took a second to marshal himself and get his feelings in check, even though it was probably too late and Tal had probably seen right through him from the moment they met. But even apart from that, Dark Jedi could sense emotional instability just as easily as they could sense Force signatures.
Naturally he still had his Concealment down.
"Aye, s' a good t'ing, f' sho," he agreed, drawing his sword and his blaster. He let his senses stretch out, searching for anything amiss. Were those two people the dark one mentioned lurking around here? Maybe if...
"Lemme try somethin'," he went on in a low voice, turning away and taking a few steps toward the building. Years ago, the ghost of an ancient Sith Warlord had possessed him for over a week, and it had not left him unmarked; he could speak and understand one or two dialects of Ancient Sith, he could utilized a queer sort of Force Lightning, and when need be he could... reach into himself for the remnants of that oily Darkness, draw it out like a vile cloak and drape it around himself...
He couldn't repress a shiver as that veneer of the Dark Side settled about him, lending a grim cast to his already ravaged features. To all appearances, he was a Dark Jedi, but Tal, who had seen into him before, would not be fooled. "Wha'cha think?" he said, turning back to face her again.

Talau wasn't one to try and intrude upon others, so while she may have noticed, she didn't really care to pay too much attention to his discomfort. Perhaps because she shared a bit of it. Whatever the case, she huffed a little chuckle at her own thoughts and peered up at the building.
As he told her to wait a moment she looked at him curiously, watching through the force and with her eyes. His change was...interesting...and a bit unexpected, but...Lifting a brow at his question, Talau snorted softly before chuckling once more. This time at him. Part of her, a long locked down part, wanted to take it as a challenge. The rest of her wasn't about to let any of that happen.
" Nice trick...try harder, though..." she replied teasingly.

"I ain't showin' off fer you," Tajima teased back, trying not to grin. Dark Jedi never grinned, never smiled, except when their victims were on the ropes and they could indulge in the depravities they lusted to unleash. But if he was wrong and no one was here, then who else was he showing off for?
For a second he was worried he'd pulled his trick for nothing, until he noticed an approach dark presence. That was another thing, most Dark Jedi never had the sense to hide themselves; were they just used to dealing with non-sensitives?
He gripped his weapons tighter, and stood steady as he waited for the dark ones to come closer and into view. Hopefully this interrogation went better than the last one. Well, not that the last one had gone badly, per se, but it had been rather abruptly cut off. Oh well. He wouldn't have met Tal if that accident hadn't happened, so there was the bright side.
