"Then why did you ask?" she retorted cheekily, her presence folding and tightening down to nothing as her telepathy went to work, stunting any attention that might fall upon her over to him. Obviously she wasn't here...little more than a fly on the wall compared to the...very terrifying...dark Jedi, whose presence challenged and similar entities around, drawing them out.
...and draw them out he did.
Like two foolish little moths they came to his flame, unaware that another worrisome enemy was lurking in his proverbial shadow. Slowly and deliberately she paced away, seeking to get around behind the cocky buggers as she further pulled her hood up to shadow her face. Once more he would feel that change in her through their link, an unmistakable sensation of her embracing something still locked away, but more dangerous...a huntress, for all intents and purposes.
--Keep them occupied. Injure them if necessary, the pain will help loosen their minds. I'll see which one's mind is weaker and work on them first.--

It was weird, watching Tal as she made herself scarce. He knew she was there, he knew his eyes could see her, but his attention refused to focus on her. Until she opened that link between them again. That sense... he knew that feeling, had felt it when stalking murderous beasts.
--Right, will do.--
The first Dark Jedi, the Trandoshan Hsi-rhak, snarled something and waved a wicked-looking curved sword, but TJ had no idea what he was saying. The Twi'lek was a little better. "Who are you?! Why are you here?! This is a dangerous place, you need to leave now!" he ranted in Huttese, which the Jedi understood perfectly and could almost even speak.
"'ey wot?" he replied in Basic, feigning to not understand as he pretended to clean wax from his ear. "Talk a real language 'ere, Sunny Jim, none a' 'at Hutt guff."
The Twi'lek growled. Both of them were enraged, and he sensed they were protecting something. But why down here? Like Tal had said, they were far from the shipyards, was that really their target?
"I won't say it again, you need to leave! You and whoever else came along!" he went on, trying his native language this time. Tajima just laughed in his face, though, while thinking at Tal:
--I'm not sure the shipyards are their target. That or these two are just a smaller link in a much longer chain than we imagined. We should move this along.--
He already had his blaster in hand, set to stun; it was easy to flick it up, fire at the two dark ones. The Trandoshan was knocked over before he could do anything, but the Twi'lek was quick to snap a bright red lightsaber out and leap over the blasts, using the momentum to fling himself at Tajima in an attempt to end this before they could attract attention!

Talau never released that link...not with these conditions. Used to the mental network the feanturi employed in battle, she didn't think twice about her actions, allowing the man slightly further access so they would be able to work more efficiently in combat. With dark Jedi it tended to lead to that eventually, and it was better he know her actions and she knew his so they didn't get in each other's way.
Coming up behind the trandoshan she paused, her eyes flicking to Tajima. Sonny J-know what? She didn't care right now. Returning her attention to the trandoshan she almost immediately moved on. He wasn't shouting anything more than obscenities, and felt dumb as rocks, but she couldn't tell...his mental armor was too good to crack easily.
Turning her attention to the twi'lek, Talau was pleased to find his mind was much more appealing for swift entry. --This isn't fast if you want me to do it right.-- she retorted. He would feel that swirl of her thoughts ratchet up again as it had before, her energy put forth to passively seek out the weaknesses in his defenses.
It was a good thing she did, too, as he had just launched himself at Tajima. Wriggling her way into those defences, she wasn't covert in her operations, the ability of the dark Jedi to come back at her while already committed to his attack minimal.

"Is my corner now!" Tajima crowed as he fought with the Twi'lek. "I 'n I gots me corner! N' you!" It was easy to fight just above his opponent's level, moving just a little too fast, striking just a little too hard with that long, lethal Tremor Sword of his. In his desperation the Twi'lek had regressed to Shii'cho, the most basic of the forms, and Tajima had to wonder. Just what was he protecting that could elicit such mindless fear and rage?
--Something's wrong. He's reacting too strongly here. Can you figure out what he's afraid of?--
That wasn't hard. He was afraid of screwing up and making some other guy mad at him. But the more Tal would try to read in, the more panicked and fearful the impressions would become. There was a face, though, over and over the same face; a man, consumed by the Dark Side, thin black goatee on a sunken face and recessed yellow eyes. Rapid scenes of torture, both of the Twi'lek and of others.
Was this man present on Kuat? Was he somewhere else? This couldn't be determined until the Twi'lek could calm down.

--Shh!-- she chided sharply, his distractions of her not helping, however, as opposed to popular opinion, the twi'lek's fear allowed the woman in much more easily. The more she inserted herself, the clearer those images became, and the more fearful he was the more open those cracks in his armor became. Those motor capabilities were the first thing for her to lock down on, her presence finally coming full force into the twi'lek, making him whirl around to face her with a look of shock just moments before his muscles tightened so he was stuck looking at her, absolutely still, as she paced toward him slowly.
Though she spoke to the yellow hued man, her thoughts to him (the words, anyway) wouldn't be lost to Tajima. --You're afraid of him, that's fine...but believe me, friend, I can do much worse to you if you don't tell me everything. I may look polite, but I'm trained in more ways of getting information than just the polite ones...you think your bite is bad? You think HIS bite is bad?....-- Her face came very close to his, almost nose to nose as she gripped his jaw and cheeks with one gauntleted hand. --He is nothing compared to me. So be a good boy and open up so I don't have to hurt you, alright? And while you're at it, drop the saber. Children shouldn't play with dangerous weapons.--
Those grey eyes had flooded with crimson and strands of black, the grey battered back to the edges as she controlled whatever it was in her that she had under lock and key. The sheer force of her persuasion was almost palpable through the link she held with her companion and the saber in the twi'lek's hand dropped to the ground unlit as she stared him down. The man in her grip was more than compliant, however, now that she had made her threats...of all the torture he'd gone through very little of it had been telepathic and he wasn't keen on trying it. Those barriers of his came crumbling down as he stared at her, unable to move and mortified as she rifled through his memories, passing them along the link to Tajima...the face of the man, images of schematics for what looked to be a war ship, thoughts of the KDY, knowledge that there were others working but not who...he was simply a slicer, paid to receive information, encrypt it, and then transmit it off world again...as well as the room number they were using for their current base of operations. At least, this part of it.
When it seemed she would find nothing else useful to the man she pressed her palm to his forehead and pressed it into a deep sleep, his body crumpling. --I hope you have something to bind him with,-- she stated, pacing over to the semi-conscious trandoshan. The stun blasts had done fairly well at dealing with him, but they were a hardy sort and so it was wearing off swiftly. Kneeling with one hand on his stomach, Talau pinned one of his arms down at the wrist with her boot and leaned her forearm atop her knee as her other hand pressed the unlit emitter of Talon to the top of his shoulder...just enough to where it would cut into the muscle but not through bone or anything that would make the arm unusable.
Once more she probed along those mental barriers, seeking out even the smallest cracks to enter, but nothing was easily forthcoming and they didn't have time for this. With a hiss and sizzle of her saber the trandoshan grimaced and groaned in pain, unable to do much more as the top of his shoulder was burned away by her saber. As soon as she'd ignited it, however, she'd placed the weapon back on her belt, using his pain to weaken those barriers so she could start breaking them down.

This chick didn't mess around, clearly. He had half a mind to let her take over the mission, honor be damned; she'd probably get better results than he would! But no, the Council had assigned it to him personally, so he had to see it through to the end. No matter what that end might be.
The intel she pried from his head was duly passed along, and Tajima considered it as he called the discarded weapon to his hand and confiscated it. Was that face the man in charge of this operation, or just this dork's immediate superior? And what did they want with those schematics? Were the Imperial shipwrights on strike or something? Or maybe they just wanted the weak spots.
Damnation, how many schematics had they stolen already?
Tal was finished with the Twi'lek, and Tajima moved forward, pulling stun-cuffs from his belt and slapping them on him. They'd send for local authorities to detain these two later; they would have Force suppression gear on hand for just such renegades as these, after all.
The Trandoshan was basically a thug, hired muscle with just enough Force sensitivity to be considered for training. But he hadn't been with them long and knew very little, except that the Twi'lek was more tolerant of his slow-thinking ways than the others, and thus more deserving of loyalty. His mental barriers were instinctive, probably, but they didn't conceal much behind them.
"I'ma notify th' cops 'bout these two 'n have 'em taken in," the scrawny Jedi would say once Tal was satisfied with her interrogations. "They gots anti-Force stuff 'ere too." He pulled his comm link out and hailed a local detective he was acquainted with.

Snorting softly as the trandoshan proved to have nothing useful, she pressed his mind into sleep as well before pulling away from him, physically and mentally. "I would expect nothing less, Tajima...still, we should wait for them to arrive and have them in custody, or we risk one of their cohorts dragging them off," she stated simply as she padded toward him on near silent feet as she waited for him to inform the authorities.
"What's our next course of action? We can assume someone is on the inside at the KDY, and that man I doubt is anywhere near here...it might be wise to take a look at that room of theirs. If nothing else we may be able to call in a more experienced slicer than myself to try and find an electronic trail or gather any saved data that may give us clues...."

Tajima nodded absently, and cleared his throat as the call connected; he stood up straighter and screwed his face up into an expression of intense concentration. "Detective Brand?" he asked aloud, his voice oddly clear.
"Yes?" came the reply, a mature-sounding female voice.
"Hey, this is Knight Yasaotoko here. Myself and an associate have subdued a couple of Dark Jedi, whom we have reason to believe are Imperial operatives." He caught Tal's eye and grimaced, but didn't stop talking. "We're in a vacant lot next to Avena Court Gardens, a flophouse in the slums."
"I know the place, bit of a drug den. Never imagined it was an Imp safehouse though." The voice cut out for a few moments, then came back. "You say they're subdued? I can be out there with some backup in five minutes."
"We'll wait here in case they've got accomplices," the scrawny Jedi affirmed. "Tajima out." He clicked off and let out an aggrieved sigh. "Oof! Talkin' straight's rough!" But he grinned at Tal and stretched a little to stay limber. "Eh, s' now we wai'."

Talau huffed a singular chuckle at his annoyance at having to 'talk straight', the woman folding her arms quietly and meandering around, her presence pulled in and shunting any attention back toward Tajima for the moment. He, of course, would still be easily able to see her, as she kept that link between them carefully managed. "Perhaps, but it comes more easily with practice...like any language," she replied simply as she decided to start searching the two unconscious dark jedi for anything useful to finding their accomplices or entering their room or computer system.
"What I want to know is...why are they using dark jedi? Certainly they could move more easily around the city and the KDY with non-force users. Less risk of being caught because of their ego like these ones. Perhaps that's why they're planet side and not on the KDY...."
Finding a room key card she pulled it free of the coat of one of the two and stood. "There's one problem solved. Take your robe off...you look too much like one of them to be getting on with." And with that she pulled her cloak free and started folding it down, leaving her leather-clad form looking quite a bit more like a bounty hunter than any force user, especially as she stowed Talon in it's holder pouch. With both sabers hidden in specially designed pouches and her armored gauntlets and boots she appeared to be a martial arts specialist. "Hopefully you don't look too jedi underneath it."

Tajima shrugged and flipped his cloak off. "Good slicers is 'ard t' find, I'd 'spect," he offered, "but I got th' feelin' these was low-rank clowns for all they was encryptin' stuff." He shrugged out of the sleeves and tied them together, pushing the top of his robes down over his waist; beneath it he wore enhanced Nagai electromesh armor, which was nearly skintight and covered in blue power cells. With his robes covering his lightsaber, all that anyone could see was his sword and his gun.
Soon enough a bulky landspeeder and a bike zoomed into view, and a trio of beefy young officers jumped out of the speeder while a lithe older woman slid off the bike. "That them?" she asked of Tajima, pointing at the sleeping goons. He nodded, and she waved at her guys; they descended on the goons, curious-looking cuffs and shackles in their grasp, slapping them awake so they could be read their rights and processed accordingly.
The Twi'lek snarled and tried to use the Force, but he was cuffed before he could do anything; immediately he turned pale and a horrified look came over his face, and he scrabbled madly at the restraints trying to get them off. Force suppression gear; his connection had been cut off. His companion was too stupid to realize what was going on, and still feeling the pain from when Tal had cut into his back, he docilely submitted to the arrest.
Once they were loaded and speeding away, the woman glanced at Tajima, then glared around her at something she couldn't see. "That's really cute, whoever you are, but knock it off! It's giving me a headache!"

Taking the robe from him she would move back toward their speeder, locking both away in the speeder bike's holding compartment. At least now the two of them wouldn't look so much like jedi and the extra cloth wouldn't get into the way of any swift movement they may need to do inside the building. With the compartment closed and locked she would return to her slow prowling around the area where Tajima and the two damaged dark jedi were.
The trandoshan wouldn't be so easy to wake...with the compulsion to sleep he was deep under. With the combination of pain and compulsion even once he had been roused he wasn't going to be doing much. As the two of them were cuffed Talau watched from the sidelines and then went back to her prowling....waiting for Tajima to be done and ready to go. When she was addressed, however, Talau would end her slow pacing once more and look at the detective. "Afraid I can't do that detective...but you've met me before. Talau rings a bell, I hope?" she replied simply. "Stop searching for me and the pain will clear...just focus on whatever Tajima needs. Taj, I'm headed onward," she stated, starting for the run down building itself.

Talau...? "Oh," she replied simply, a faint blush crossing her cheeks. "Ok, never mind. TJ, what was your next lead?"
Deciding discretion was the better part of valor here, the scarecrow Jedi ignored all the byplay and focused on the mission. "Some room at tha' place," and he waved at the rundown apartment, Avena Court Gardens. "I figger there's a network 'ub a' some sort. Ain't no good at all 'at shit though..."
"I am," was the confident reply. "Come on, we're falling behind," and she turned back to her speeder. She didn't need it for such a short distance, but it had her gear on it and she didn't need to lose track of the stuff. "Race you!" and she took off, Tajima in hot pursuit!

Talau wasn't exactly running for the building. Her pace was leisurely enough, though she managed to eat up ground at a pace that didn't seem natural for how calmly she seemed to be moving for any that could actually get their eyes on her. She was used to it, having to cover a lot of ground quickly, and look calm enough while doing it so she didn't raise an alarm in whatever city, town or camp she was in at the time, and she'd gotten pretty damn good at it over seven years. Especially when she had a head start, a key card, and a room to check.
By the time the two were headed after her, Talau was pulling open the door and slipping inside. Weaving her way through the shabby interior (it looked as if it would have been nice, once upon a time), the rilan would avoid physical contact with several of the people milling about in groups of friends (or possibly gang relations for one similarly color-coded group) to the lift. It was there she finally stopped, waiting and not touching anything as she worked the force to continue shunting attention away from herself. No longer would she be using Tajima as a focus for the attention, but rather simply diverting anything that fell upon her to something or someone else that was more interesting at the moment. Why was she not calling the lift? Simple: call the lift, draw attention to the area around herself when it opened and no one came out or went in.
It just wasn't good planning, people who did that sort of thing.
Tajima would, of course, still easily be able to see her clearly with the bond she held between them, and as he entered he may also be able to sense that some of her attention was set to similarly make him 'uninteresting' to a point people simply wouldn't care if he was around or not (rather than diverting all attention away from him)...after all, Brand needed to see him, and she needed them to get into the lift for her to follow after.

The second they were inside, Brand was all business. "Everybody get the fuck out of here!" she yelled, producing her badge and waving it around. "There's been an incident involving Dark Jedi nearby and KCPD can't guarantee your safety if you remain in the area!" Most of the vagrants left immediately, having no wish to get between the police and the Sith, but a few were stubborn. The ones wearing gang colors, mostly.
"Ain't no Sith aroun' here," one of them threatened as he advanced on Brand. He was interrupted by Tajima though, who stood in his way, long bare sword in hand, silently glaring down at him from his greatly superior height. "...um, but maybe we'll clear off anyway," the thug replied sheepishly, fooled by the Jedi's darkened appearance. Who was he to argue with a Dark Jedi, especially one who had police backing? He waved his pals on and they too departed the lobby.
"Not so bad, was it?" Brand went on, smirking in satisfaction as she approached the elevator and tapped the button. "I guess our mutual friend knows which floor we're in for?

Talau sighed deeply at Brand's actions. There had been a reason she hadn't frightened everyone off, much less announced the presence of the planetary security! It was one thing for a bunch of force users to duke it out, but planetary security could clam people up or make them disappear faster than any force user, good, bad or neutral. As the two entered the lift and she slid in behind them, Talau snorted softly.
"Please refrain from frightening off any more potential witnesses or associates, Detective. While the Kuat security may not be able to protect them, I'm capable of a lot....I can't speak for Tajima's specific abilities....and no offense but it's been my personal experience that calling out anything about planetary security makes people vanish faster than dueling force users....so long as they're not in the area, that is," Talau stated. "And the seventh floor. Hopefully no one decided that a flood of people leaving from the building was suddenly a hint to do the same..." she added with a deep sigh. She didn't sound angry, really, but perhaps annoyed. She understood the desire to keep people safe, but if the Sith got their hands on war ship schematics and then pulled out their operation because someone frightened off an informant, who tipped the rest of the operation off....
The thought wasn't a pleasant one...plenty more people than just some in a building could (and probably would) die.

Brand just rolled her eyes at the upbraiding. "Don't get your boring blue panties in a twist, Firians," she countered mildly. "KCPD busts in on this place twice a week at least; every time we run one batch of gangbangers off, another one moves in. Your punks would think it strange if there wasn't another loud bust-in today."
Tajima was curious how she knew about Tal's underwear, but refrained from revealing his curiosity; besides, considering their previous interaction, the answer was probably obvious. It wasn't his business. "An' bustin' in solo when ya gots a Dark'n followin' ya's gonna throw 'em fer a loop, aye?"
"Assuming anyone's up there, anyway," she replied as the elevator slowed, then dinged, then slid open on sticky rollers that needed to be greased. "It IS lunchtime, and there's a killer noodle shop just a few blocks the other way." Still unconcerned she sauntered on out, eying the empty corridor with satisfaction. "We attracted attention with that arrest, true, but like I said: they're used to it by now. If anything it gave us a while to snoop around uninterrupted; if they're smart they'll stay away for at least an hour or so."
She glanced back at Tal. "Got a room number there, too?"

(going to finish thread and then Tal will vanish off]
Talau sighed quietly and shook her head, hardly believing Brand had brought something so personal into it. Still, she played it off well enough. "Room 752," she intoned almost idly, her senses sweeping through the area cautiously. There were plenty of echoes of disturbed and frightened emotions rippling through the floor, but in one corner of the floor it seemed oddly still. Again she sighed and slid herself out of the lift as the doors fully cycled open. Waiting only long enough for the other two to exit, she started down the hallways, her head swinging back and forth as if peering through doors rather than at doors.
Obviously she couldn't see through the doors, but her senses slid through them to test what was inside. Her eyes didn't even see the numbers on the doors as they moved along, but she stopped short as she came to a corner room...749? She turned to look across the hall: 751. She turned a little once more: 750...752! But the whole corner section felt desolate. "This is the one....though....all of these are either empty, or they're all hiding in the force. Either way I'm not a fan of it..." It was probably understandable why, too. Not that she knew, but inside the four rooms were thrashed...each one torn apart in the hurry to grab information and go. The only one left in some semblance of order was the room in question, simply because the two that had inhabited it hadn't been there to scrub it, and their companions had their hands full doing so with their own rooms.
