Among such holidays are various royal birthdays, Independence day, Shay Tapani Remembrance day and the Memorial Day.History The history of Tapani sector goes back several millenias. However, most of it is irrelevant to the current galactic situation. What most people should know is that the sector received its name from man who once unified it into a single empire, Shey Tapani. The Tapani sector remained independent for a while until finally joining the Republic few hundred years ago, mostly out of convenience. During that time they never lost their aristocratic streak, though sector certainly benefited from being part of the Republic. However, things began to change once the Sith Empire was recreated. Many of the aristocratic founders of the Empire had their origins in the Tapani sector. They had grown weary of what they saw as the Republic’s constant attempts to erode their way of life. Their departure forged a number of informal relations between the higher classes or the Tapani sector and the ruling classes of the Empire that fostered cautiously pro-imperial atmosphere in the sector. When the Empire and the Republic finally came to blows, Tapani went to war with the Republic but did so hesitantly. As a wealthy sector with its own standing military, the Tapani Security Forces and House Guards, the Tapani Sector was relied heavily in the early parts of the war to provide soldiers for the war effort, which meant a steady stream of fallen soldiers. Add to this the constricts war placed on trade and the familial connections to the Empire and the people of the Tapani sector grew sick and tired of the war quite quickly. Why should they kill their own cousins for the Republic? When was the last time they got anything from the Republic other than new tariffs and taxes? Arguments like these were declared loudly in Tapani and gradually won over the majority of the population. They had had enough of war and when the Senate rejected the proposition to open peace talks with the Empire, introduced by the then Senator Corik Mecetti, the Tapani Sector decided that it was time to leave a sinking ship. Without a warning, the Tapani recalled all their ships and personnel from the front and declared themselves independent of the Republic. This move caused an uproar within the Senate and in the Republic more widely but there was little they could do. Despite the cries of war against the Tapani Sector as well the Republic could not spare troops. The withdrawal of Tapani forces had allowed the Empire to press their advantage in several key locations and every soldier was needed to keep them at bay. So, gritting their teeth, the Republic had to let Tapani go their own way. What followed for the Tapani was a period of political chaos and instability. Despite of having just secured their independence without firing a single shot, the specter of a civil war quickly appeared to the horizon as the old grudges between the various great houses made forming a functioning government impossible. Various assemblies were formed and dissolved on almost weekly basis and nothing of any value was done for building the nation. It was beginning to look like the Sector would tear itself up as the various houses tried to gain influence and power. The only thing sanding in the way of a full blown civil war was that the Security Forces and the wealthy Tapani Free Worlds had not yet chosen sides. However, this changed when Corik Mecetti suddenly inherited the High Lordship of House Mecetti when his cousin died of a stroke. Corik was popular on the Freeworlds from his time as the Senator of Fondor and his son was the acting Supreme Commander of the Security Forces. Add to that the fact that House Mecetti possessed one of the larger House Guards forces in the sector and Corik seemed to be well positioned to win any civil war that might follow. To everyone’s surprise Corik decided to use his position to avert bloodshed and invited every important figure in the sector to negotiations to form a functioning government. In the end the settlement they reached was acceptable to all sides. Corik would reign as the High King but, while retaining wide powers, he would not be an absolute monarch. He would have to share his power with a bicameral parliament with an elected lower house and a hereditary upper house. With this settlement in place, Corik got to work building the Tapani Kingdom in a credible state on the Galactic Stage. New legislation seeking to integrate the sector’s economy and people into a more singular entity was enacted, military was expanded by state investments to Fondor’s shipyards and by instituting a national service for all citizens between the ages of 18 and 50 and new institutions and ministries were founded to oversee the burgeoning nation. Behind the scenes Corik began the process of resurrecting the Mecrosa Order as the kingdom’s answer to the Sith and the Jedi. Once the peace returned to the Galaxy, the Republic sought to punish the Tapani Sector, placing them under an embargo with talks of a full blown military blockade or even a punitive expedition. Before any such actions could be approved by the senate, Corik went for a diplomatic blizt, opening official relations with the Empire. Afraid of making an enemy on their own backyard the Senate quickly changed its tune and even decided to acknowledge the High Kingdom as an independent nation. Official relations were established soon after. Ever since the High Kingdom of Tapani has walked a diplomatic tightrope, balancing between the two great powers of the galaxy, leaning one direction when opportune but never committing to one side. How long this can continue remains to be seen but so far it has benefited the nation infinitely. Members Grand Prince Eudon Mecetti Eidolon Viatrix Montserrat Legacy Clause •If I vanish, avenge me.
