Sith Planetary Assault ship Name • Viscount-class Assault Cruiser Classification • Planetary Assult Cruiser Origin • Visari Enterprises Specifications Size • - Height: 305 meters - Width: 445 meters - Length: 620 meters Appearance • The Viscount-class assault cruiser is best described as a sturdy ship. Its built to dish out and deal incredible amounts of damage as it burns through hostile planetary atmospheres. Its massive hangars, for air/space and ground vehicles, meaning the ship is very thick, and more than a little lumbering and unwieldy when it comes to making quick maneuvers. Viscounts features a split bridge, one of which will typically oversee ship operations and the second of which often serves as a dedicated command post for ground operations. On the inside, the Viscounts are utilitarian ships, with little in the way of extra comforts. The ships maintain a crew of about 600, and can carry up to 12,000 troops, with accompanying air and ground forces, for planetary assaults. Function The Viscount Class carriers have, in the late years of the Sith-Republic War and the years since the Armistice that ended it, taken a leading role as a planetary assault ship in the Sith fleet. They’ve not entirely replaced the older Boomslang models, but as successors, they have in limited practice and in Sith doctrine, taken an increasingly large role. Still, it’s not uncommon to see the two ship classes serving side-by-side during Sith invasions. The Viscount-class features hangars, with bays lined along its dorsal surface between its unique split-bridge design. From these, the cruisers can launch a wide array of fighters, bombers, landing ships, gunboats and more as it slices into a planet’s atmosphere. Like the Boomslangs, the Viscount features heavy weapon placements along its underbelly to soften up defenses before it sets down on a planet’s surface. The ship offers some modest improvements on the older designs with a slightly increased amount of firepower — namely some medium turbolasers and a light compliment of point defense weaponry — along its dorsal surface. However, it remains firmly situated toward ground combat and often relies on other ships for cover in space engagements. The Viscount boasts heavy armor in all areas and a shield system that deploys from several generators, allowing, more than most ships, for its shielding system to be refocused to one area — a particularly useful trait for ground assaults. |
