The ships are long and, save the bridge that extends above and the adjoining communications tower jutting below in the rear third of the vessel, streamlined. Their hulls are grey, with the exception of the flagship for which the class was named, the Basilisk, which sports a jet-black paint job. Basilisk class battleships are propelled by a trio of sublight booster pods that hold a total of 17 sublight engines. Their hulls are dotted with heavy weaponry, with a lighter sprinkling of point defenses. The Basiliks interiors are, when they come off the line, dull and utilitarian. They hold a few dozen decks, with a small hanger to deploy strike craft or, more often, hold shuttles and other short-range transports. Still, their interiors are quite customizeable and some, including the namesake ship, have seen millions of credits poured into them through the years to sport lavish accomodations. Function The Basilisk-class battleships are the heavy hitters of the combined Cartel fleets. The Hutts maintain, in total, a couple dozen of these ships, though they're rarely seen away from the most important worlds in Hutt space. The Basilisks, the first of which were finished and entered service as the Sith Empire launched its war on the Republic, primarily act as a deterrent. In the years since and peace that's followed the war, that deterrence has been both from fighting among the Cartels and enemy factions that may seek to rise within Hutt Space, as well as from external threats. The Basilisks boast heavy armaments and armor, but at a cost of slow movement and somewhat thinner-than-average (for a ship of their size) shields. Still, the ships can dish out and take heavy amounts of punishment, and have seen remarkable success in the rare instances they've deployed to actual combat. This, combined with an impressive sensor suite and communications warfare capabilities, Cartels with more than enough firepower to fend off the Galaxy's smaller factions, its questionable how they'd hold up against a more powerful foe, such as the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire. |
