Goals • The Vartian Republic's current goals are: 1) To win the war. 2) Ensure the prompt destruction of any threats to themselves or allied forces. 3) To expend their territory. Allies • Due to a treaty, the Vartian Republic is on the same side as the Galactic Republic. Though whether or not this is a good thing remains to be seen. It is unpopular with the Vartians themselves as they believe themselves to be strong alone, allies merely weaken them. Enemies • Currently the Archeri Chorus Rivals • Anyone who is not them What is factionname? • A militaristic, xenophobic clone Republic, the Vartian Republic is a nation entirely devoted to total war. Every member is a soldier and capable of fighting, bred for but one purpose... War. Requirements Ordinarily restrictive to only their own race, with the ongoing conflicts across the galaxy, the Vartians have allowed for the attachment of non-Vartians to their forces for the first time in their history. Officially this is to allow for better integration and communication between Vartian and allied forces, as well as to share/adapt strategies, doctrines and battle plans. As such many outsiders find themselves serving as military advisers to Vartian forces across multiple battlefronts, attempting to facilitate better operation effectiveness and reduction of civilian casualties which skyrocket following the deployment of Vartians to any conflict. It is in part due to the difficulty in integration that the Vartians have developed a Diplomatic Corps. This recent innervation is a never before seen branch of the Vartian Republic. Officially under Vartian command, it largely consists of members from alien races and cultures, who communicate the wishes of other nations and allied forces to the Vartian Republic. It has also served to provide the Vartians with some manner of understanding of the strange factions outside of their narrow perception of the galaxy. Interestingly enough, any captured soldiers or civilians rescued from prisons by Vartian forces are not returned to their nation or dumped on the nearest friendly planet. They are conscripted into service, forced to serve seemingly uncaring masters in wars across the galaxy until the army or fleet they have been attached to returns to a friendly system. There, they are released from service, after being stripped of any military gear. Most of its members are cloned beings, Vartians, each a perfect genetic replica of one another. Grown in clone tanks till the age of ten, they are 'birthed' or deployed having undergone several years of indoctrination whilst developing. From their recruits take part in possibly one of the most brutal training regimes in the known galaxy. Graduating at the age of nineteen, each is an accomplished soldier who serves with one purpose to wage war. Duties What does your faction expect from the average member? Pick between two to five tasks shared by all members of your faction and expand upon them. A military nation, above all else every Vartian in a soldier, capable of firing a carbine or bayoneting any hostile lifeform. This believe infests their whole nation, with it's population not in the army or navy, devoted to fueling the war effort and the training of new recruits. Army: The primary branch of service for a Vartian. The Vartian Army consists of numerous infantry, mechanised and armoured formations. In battle the Vartians employ a combine arms approach which has proven devastating, though their species' lack of the concept of retreat leads to horrendous losses in battles. Formally a Vartian only serve, 'rescued' conscripted non Vartian species serve alongside the infantry, expected to fight alongside the beings responsible for their rescue from enemy forces. A highly disciplined force, extremely well trained, the Vartian Army should be renowned across the galaxy for it's military skill. Yet it is not the case. The Vartian Army has committed hundreds if not thousands of war crimes, though they would not recognise it as such, since they lack any concept of civilians and war crimes. Key to this hostility and lack of remorse is the Kran Val, as if filters their thoughts and emotions, it fills them with with hatred and crushes any thought of compassion or guilt. As such Vartians who have lost the Kran Val are often haunted by what they have done in the service of their Republic, filled with guilt over the nightmarish actions they have committed. It is these actions which see them labeled as monsters, unthinking, uncaring for anything save the thought of war. Navy: The second branch of service for the Vartian. It consists of numerous battlecruisers, battleships, carriers, frigates, heavy and light cruisers, picket ships and destroyers. It is also responsible for heavy and strategic bombers, starfighters, interceptors and ground attack aircraft. The Navy is a vast machine who possess a strong Battlecruiser doctrine, focusing on defeating their enemies in massive space battles by attacking strategic targets such as worlds, moons or space station. The Navy often provides close fire support to Vartian Army or marine units deployed to a planet's surface and think nothing of bombarding enemy population centres in order to bring the invasion to a swift conclusion. Special Operations Service: The Special Operations Service is perhaps the most unique branch of service within the Vartian Military, focusing on irregular warfare, espionage and counter espionage operations. It's members are not recruited but chosen by those within the SOS. The Specials as they are often referred to serve as commandos and spies, but also protect against enemy guerrillas, spies and espionage. Uniquely amongst the Vartian forces, aliens are recruited and treated as equal members much to the dislike of high command. This openness must not be mistaken for acceptable or even toleration, but Vartians within the SOS have come to understand the value of alien allies, valuing their input and abilities. Traditions The Vartians were never intended to form their own independent state, they are an anomaly, birthed as a result of an endless war. When they achieved victory over the despised Trepivans, they rebelled turning against their creators and soon possessed total control over the planet which they renamed Vartia. From the ashes of that conflict, rose a new nation, the Vartian Republic who adopted the political government of their slain creators. Though formally a democracy, their entire society is military focused, this aspect swamps all of their society. The Vartian Republic is more of a military apparatus than a traditional state as the rest of the galaxy might understand it. Led by the Prime Soldier, responsibility and management is dedicated to a cadre of top ranking military officers serving as ministers and chiefs of staff. There is no civilian authority within the Vartian Republic, for they possess no civilians as they have no concept of them. It has been theorised that if they were to lose the Kran Val, a sector of their mind which restricts emotions and thoughts, they might evolve into something truly unique, instead of a military state with no growth beyond the next battle zone. This extreme militarism, coupled with Vartian xenophobia has made interactions with other species difficult. The Vartian Republic inherited much of it's traditions, doctrines, institutional knowledge and equipment from the defeated nations on Vartia. The Vartian Military consists of an army and navy, with various specialised support services within each branch. In order to produce, maintain and supply their vast military, much of their population along with droids operate in the military support services, supplying the resources needed to fuel the war effort. They are soldiers in the eyes of the Vartian Republic and are governed as such. They operate as planetary defence forces in the event of a Vartian world coming under attack. This lack of a civilian base makes trading with the Vartians to be very difficult, they have no economy and are entirely devoted to warfare. Whilst their fleets and armies operate modernised or newly designed equipment, their military strategy focuses on large scale combine arms warfare. In space, the back bone of the Vartian Navy, is the Dominator Class Battle-cruiser, like many warships it contains extensive anti ship batteries, a complement of starfighter wings as well as the marine and army forces required to board enemy vessels, repel boarders and conquer planets. Although capable of preforming a variety of roles, the Dominator is supplemented by other vessels such as carriers, battleships, heavy and light cruisers, destroyers, frigates and picket ships. During ground based operations, the Vartian Army employs heavy multi-turreted tracked tanks, IFVs, APCs, bipedal walkers, artillery, bombers and ground attack aircraft. These support mechanised infantry formations, who operate with a degree of tactical flexibility, leading to superior personal initiative amongst unit commanders. However, the Vartian infantry often sustains a high rate of loss amongst it soldiers due to the refusal to retreat. Vartians are trained from birth and indoctrinated with the values of the state, they are assigned alpha numeric designations instead of names, instead Vartians are allowed to chose their own first and last name, seen by many to be a throw back to the culture which birthed them. State propaganda reaches all areas of their society, with pre recorded speeches and triumphal music playing constantly on their worlds. Such speeches focus on the depravity of the other species of the galaxy, the value of the war, the goal of the nation and the superiority of the Vartian race. Vartians are taught a different version of galactic history, one which focuses on the glory of their war and that Vartians were responsible for every military victory ever. This includes their own, according to their own history, the Vartian Republic has never lost on the battlefield, but instead they are robbed of their chance to succeed due to the actions of the Jedi known only to the Vartians as the destroyer. The distorted version of history can easily be discounted, leading some outside of the nation to doubt the history of the Vartians. The Treaty of Destroyer: During their wars of expansion the Vartian Republic was halted and then later defeated by a being they come to call the Destroyer. Unknown to the Vartians, this mysterious being was a Jedi Knight. The war in which led up to the treaty was brutal even by Vartian standards, yet all attempts to kill him failed. Though a heavily studied topic within their society and upper command, the Vartians rarely speak openly of either him or the treaty. He has become a figure of nightmare, a demonic monster in what pitiful excuse the Vartians have for a mythology. Regardless of how he achieved his victory over them, the Vartians' first and according to them only lost war, the Vartians signed a treaty called the Treaty of the Destroyer. This seventy page document swore the Vartian Republic to halt it's expansion towards the Republic and it's members as well as to defend the Republic should it be called upon in war. The Vartians followed the treaty, if by the most loose interpretation of that word. It is their greatest fear within their society that the Destroyer will one day return to defeat them once and for all. Members Use this space to keep count of the number of character in your faction.
