The stale lingering air of the dank bar was a not so welcomed change from the fresh crisp wind outside. Pushing open the stiff door its metal hinges squealed from years of poor maintenance. Standing at the doors entrance stood the lithe form of a Togruta. Young, hardly standing slightly taller than a child and grey skinned; she was an oddity in this place. Fanning a hand before her face momentarily cleared her vision of the seemingly ever present smoke that wafted from lit cigars. With an uncertain glance over her shoulder the girl stood a tad straighter before going ahead with her idea.
Hardly a week had passed before she'd decided to leave home. Despite her appearance she wasn't a run away, rather a novice adventurer that sought to explore the universe. For so many years she'd been confined by her parents, this world and the disease that coursed through her veins. Now it was time to take life by the reigns and take to the heavens above! However... there was just one tiny detail she'd overlooked. How the hell was she supposed to go about this? Sure, it was easy enough to read a heroic comic and think "Hey! I could do that as well!" but to actually do it was a tad more complex. Where exactly should she go first? What would she need to bring? A weapon she figure; not as though she knew how to fire one or ever would. While she might have been naive about most things outside her little bubble she knew the galaxy wasn't the safest of places. Which is what led her here in the first place. Having gotten the idea that bars were a great place to meet rugged, seasoned adventures who could tell her everything she would need to know. Thinking it was the best option Maya set out to the closest bar nearby which just so happened to be the one she was currently at.
Once clearing the doorway the initial awe and glamour of a whirlwind adventure was sucked from her lungs like an exhausted candle. In the comics the people were cartoony. Sure, they looked tough but there was always a child like smoothness giving them a less threatening appearance. Now, standing in a room full of half drunk, mercenaries, pirates and various other outlaws her skin crawled as all eyes fell onto her. Though she'd always been small Maya felt all the more so with the lingering eyes upon her.
"Er... hello." Her mousy voice called out, barely audible from the far side of the room.
At this the greasy barman who'd been cleaning off the counter cocked his head in Maya's direction.
"Ey! No kids. Beat it." He shoved a thumb towards in a rough manner.
Heat flushed to Maya's cheeks as they puffed up with a glossy redness.
"I'm not a child!" Her soft voice squeak sharply which caused a small chorus of laughter to fill the air leaving Maya embarrassed as well as angered.
"Right. And I'm Rancor." He gestured at himself with a mocking expression causing a few chuckles from his patrons.
"We'll you're certainly ugly enough to be one." Maya replied without a second thought to her words. Normally calm and collective it wasn't quite like her to be this confronting but this man had dug into her like a tick calling her a child.
A few "ooo's" rang out from the drunks at Maya's comment. Feeling a anger welling up within the barman waved Maya away.
"Whatever. Don't blame me if you get gutted by this lot. Not worth my time." The man disappeared behind his counter leaving Maya a little less confidant than before. Maybe it would have been best if she'd left when he told her... oh well... to late for that now.

Clinking of glasses and idle chatter permeated the smaller, dingy bar that laid on the edge of Sith space. It was a good thing that there were plenty of pirates, smugglers, and other cast of characters otherwise it would be unusual for a former Jedi to be around. Luckily no one knew what he was. He was simply a man floating around from one planet to another, displaced by the recent war with the Archeri. The galaxy had been distorted and he was one of those who had been at the forefront of it.
Ash sipped calmly from his glass of alcohol, looking into the amber depths of it in contemplation. He could nearly make out the faint purple ring around his iris, or so he imagined. He knew it was there, generally flaring up when another person that was under the Archeri control was around, and it angered him. And saddened him. The Archeri had done some serious evil in his life, as well as the rest of the galaxy. Ash closed his eyes, taking a slow, calming breath and pushed the darker thoughts out of his mind. They may have been warranted by anyone else, but for him? He was better than that. He downed the rest of his drink, setting the tumbler back on the table and waiting for the burn to pass.
"Er... hello."
A mousy voice caught his ears, and his eyes flicked towards who spoke up. A short girl, Torgruta by her appearance, but her skin tone was... off. It wasn't how one of this species normally looked. Ash she looked like a little child. Ash's eyes flicked around the room once again, looking for any more Torgruta's that may have been related to this girl. Yet there was none, unless they have some serious body modifications. Turning back to the girl, she was making an effort to raise her voice and talk to the bartender. What was this little girl doing here?
The answer was obviously to pick a fight with the bartender. Yup... she was a child to do such a stupid thing as make fun of the proprietor of this establishment. He let out a sigh as the bartender turned around, and basically set the girl up to be kicked out in any way. Ash stood up, joining a group of other men heading towards the girl.
"Hey girl, you don't pick a fight with people. And with no daddy to take care of you, you're gone forever."
"Hey, leave the girl alone. She is probably trying to find her parents."
"No, this girl is dusted!
This grumpy man made a grab for the shirt girl, but his hand was intercepted by Ash, who moved to her defense. The other grunted in pain and pulled away, Ash letting him.
"Youre dusted TOO!"[/color]
The man swung at Ash, who bent around it. He pushed the arm and the man around and sent him off into some of his friends.
"Drop it. She's leaving. No need to get h-"
Ash was interrupted as the initial instigator was back on his feet and coming at Ash again. Ash dodged and planted a fist in man's stomach, his strength enough to throw the man backwards. His two friends joined in, one after another and each was tossed back like the first.
A fourth nearly blind sided Ash, who turned and had enough time to plant his feet so he didn't fly away when a cybernetic arm hit his shoulder, giving off the metallic sound of two alloys connecting, even if there was clothes and anything else in the way. Ash spun, kicking the man across the face.
"Girl, you better be long gone."
With these foes down, he grabbed a random bottle of alcohol from a table that wasn't tipped in the quick fight and made his way towards the exit.

The surge of confidence brought by warding off the bartender quickly dissipated from Maya. Having figured that this confrontation would be the only hurdle she'd need to over come she was taken aback as the bar patrons began to approach her. This wasn't the way it was supposed to go! All the hero had to do to state the rowdy drunks was to assert dominance and not to back down when confronted. Despite doing the right thing Maya had over looked one major detail; she looked little more than a child to this people. Despite the fact she was an adult in her own right no one ever saw her as such.
"There's no need to get violent." Her voice squeaked as she took a few hurried steps back.
Though ready to flee at a moments notice Maya was no where near physically fit enough to out pace them. It wasn't as though she hadn't tried to get into shape; her body just wouldn't allow it. Reaching out to take a hand full of her shirt Maya braced herself for the coming onslaught. A moment passed without any shearing bouts of pain before she cracked an eye. The man's clenching fist had been stopped mere inches away from her chest by another. Glancing up at her savor her eyes fell upon a rugged looking gent. Gruff, lightly scarred with a faint beard that traced his chiseled jaw. His piecing blue eyes locked onto the aggressor before withdrawing his fist.
There was a moment of relief thinking they might back off but it was over before it had really started. With his anger now directed towards the mysterious hero the bar patrons seemed to completely forget about Maya. Launching themselves at the man Maya watched the blur of moment as he single handedly disposed of the outlaws one by one. Seeing a fight in person rather through a screen or comic was as terrifying as it was awe inspiring. There was a sense of real adventure and stakes that had been set. With her jaw slightly gaped Maya had barely heard her savor as he spoke.
Snapping out of her dazed state she glanced from the outlaws who now lay in heaps upon the ground back to the mysterious man. Figuring it was best to leave before they got back up Maya nodded at his suggestion before following in his tracks.
"That was rather impressive." Maya noted as she walked to his side.
"Thank you.... I didn't think they'd be so... barbaric." She looked over her shoulder as she stepped back out into the sunlight.
"Also, don't call me girl." A touch of red lit up her cheeks at the word. Maya hated being called that. Girl, child, lass; the words really got under her skin. Despite her size she was a woman and demanded to be treated as such.
"I'm not a kid." She huffed her chest out making her seem a tad bigger than she actually was though the effect might be lost on the man as he'd have to crane his neck down to even look at her.
"I'm actually an adventurer! Or... well, an inspiring one." Her words trailed off at this knowing that while it was a point, it wasn't a strong one. She'd come here seeking advice on how to be a adventurer and it hadn't gone well so far. Aside from learning never to enter a bar again little had been learned.
"Anyway... the way you handled yourself back there... are you an adventurer? Because I could really use some pointers. Like, where to go first, what to bring, what to avoid. And please don't say something like 'You want some advice? Stay home.' because I don't want to hear it." Maya noted, using a deep, gruff voice to imitate the man's tone.

Ash popped the cork of the bottle he took for himself, holding it in one hand as he brought the opening to his lips, taking a taste of the liquor inside. It had an initial sharper taste; he could tell it was a darker, older vintage than what he was previously drinking, but had little burn and a woody aftertaste. Not Corellian, that was for sure, but it was something he could get use to drinking. Ash walked through the door and was a few steps out before he realized he had a fallower. He imagined she was just making her escape before it dawned on him that she was talking to him.
"That wasn't impressive. It was pointless. Drunks aren't up for fighting or anything else besides drinking their lives away."
For emphasis, he shook the bottle slightly and took another shallow draw from it. His live devolved quickly after the Archeri were defeated and he skipped off and found himself here, just starting into alcohol when he never really had it at all. After the first two nights he found he liked it, and the last two he barely spent any time fully sober. Even how, he had a decent buzz going on, but a easy to maintain internal meditation trance kept his mind relatively clear as he worked to deal with this person.
"Don't call you a girl? Not a child? Sorry, but unless your chest is all fake, which may as well be with how small you are, you are indeed a girl. And indeed a child, no matter how old you believe yourself to be. Only a child would walk into a bar, especially one like that, and start running her mouth and starting a fight. Own up, cuz your actions is what started that."
Ash made it across the street to where he had a cheap speeder with no roof on it. He took out his massive sword, letting its natural weight carry it into the ground where it stuck and he got into a pack.
"You're will forever be a kid until you are taller than that sword."
Ash wasn't the tallest person himself, and his weapon of choice was nearly as long as he was tall. It probably weighed more than the girl who was on his heels.
"The hell is an adventurer? This isn't some fantasy world where you embark on a ship to go be a hero across the galaxy. Life doesn't work that way, especially for a child like you. And don't worry, I wont say those words, as you said them for me. Its good advise. You should listen to it."
Ash wasn't normally so gruff, grumpy, or bitter, but the alcohol was talking a little, and he really didn't feel like putting up with whoever this person was.
At last, he found what he was looking for: a small pill bottle. He popped it open and shook a few pills into his hand, which he took dry. It was simple aspirin to keep a headache he knew would pop up away. He was trying to make a point of ignoring the young woman, acting like she was not there as he repacked his pack and used the force to set it into the passenger seat from the back seat where he was working.

Maya found her face flushing yet another time in such a short period of time. Unlike the times prior it wasn't from anger rather embarrassment. Despite living with her condition for her whole time she was deeply self conscious of her body. By the time women where her age they had fully developed; full of curves and breasts to match. Maya on the other hand hadn't changed since she was fourteen keep the same appearance for the last five years. Placing a hand over her chest she whimpered to herself at the mans comment. Sure, there were surgeries that could be taken or drugs but those didn't always have the desired effect; they were also highly expensive, not something a recently graduated student could afford.
Maya stood there fuming with anger and despair as the man walked across the street. Where as today had started off so well now she wished for nothing more than to crawl back into her bed. This man, who'd she first thought of as a heroic type, was turning out to be little more than an inconsiderate jerk. Why'd he ever stuck his neck out for her in the first place just to belittle her was beyond her capacity of understanding. Then again, she was a fresh faced adult, she'd not seen a fraction of the universe that this man had; time has a way of hardened a persons heart.
Once the initial anger began to dwindle down Maya took a few breaths to compose herself. Feeling her heart slow its rhythmic thumping she approached the man.
"First off, it's 'because' not 'cuz'. Try to use correct grammar if you are going to speak at all." Maya cocked her head towards him with a straight face.
"Secondly, as I stated before, I am not a child. I am nineteen and by the law I am considered an adult despite my size." She fanned her hands down towards her feet gesturing to her body.
"Thirdly, breast size should not be a factor when determining a persons age. Not all beings develop those tissues so to judge a being based off that is idiotic, and sexist. If that were the case then you'd be a child as well." She pointed towards the mans chest which was, as expected, rather flat.
"Lastly, yes, an 'adventure'. I want to see the universe. Explore the unknown. Learn of the untold. I don't want to be a hero. Not if they turn to booze and pills at what is clearly the end of their career." Maya made a point of glancing towards what remained of the liquor bottle and container of pills before turning her gaze back towards the man.
"Is it possible that my lack of knowledge and ignorance caused that bar scuffle, of course. I'll take my share of the blame for it. But for you to belittle me based on my size is unjust. Not to mention, but I will, a fight takes at least two people. If memory serves you were the one throwing most of the punches." Maya crossed her arms under her chest as she eyed the man.
"Now, despite everything you've done to insult me thus far...." Maya trailed off for a few moments before speaking again.
"I do believe there is a good person behind the stench of booze and five o'clock shadow. People who go around defending others aren't bad. That being said, would you care to try this again?" Maya questioned before extending a hand out towards the man.
"I am Maya. An aspiring adventure." She waited for the mans response hoping her words might have broken through the mans rugged demeanor. Best case scenario he'd clasp her hand and apologize. Worst case she wind up a puddle on the road side... she felt good about her odds.

Ash thought he had managed to scare the girl off.
He was wrong and the young woman was absolutely fuming, and started going off on how proper English and how she was an an adult due to her age and breast size and yadda yadda he really didn't care much about her wild tangent. Then she spoke up about talking about being an adventurer.
"Ok, stop.... You're annoying, you know that?"
Ash sighed, strengthening his inner meditation as he sat on the edge of his speeder. This girl continued to talk a little bit, mostly mentioning her name and that he was a good person under his gruff exterior. He huffed a little, corking his bottle and idly tossing it into his speeder's back seat.
"Get this through your head: just because you are a legal adult doesn't mean youre all grown up. You are a kid until you attain enough life experience to be called otherwise.
He let out a small breath, crossing his arms and setting his eyes on the short girl.
"You want to be an adventurer? Join the Republic, or become an archeologist. Volunteer to help the Jedi, or Sith, or whatever you want. You ain't going too find nothing but a swift ass kicking or worse around these parts."
It was true, and Maya, as her name was, maybe would have learned that after her recent experience in that bar. Well... he would imagine she would have. They already had vast different childhoods. She just needed direction and someone to push her in the right one. Doubtful it would be him.
Using the force again, he grabbed a bottle of water and brought it to his hands, and he took a sip from it. He waited to see what kind of reply she would have.

This stranger was proving to be as frustrating as he was gruff. On one hand he'd braved those drunken bar men to save her, yet on the other he dismissed nearly everything she said with little to no thought. Just because he thought of himself as "experienced" he felt as though he could talk down to her. It was true that she was young and lacking in worldly experience but that didn't mean her thoughts or opinions were without merit. Thinking it would be best for her blood pressure Maya bit her tongue towards any future comment this stranger made. If she was going to get any information from him she couldn't pop a blood vessel.
"Archeology is fun but it's more of a hobby for me." Maya sighed thinking back to the various lectures she spent on ancient Togruta burial mounds.
"And the joining one of the major factions... I don't know." She pressed a finger against her lips in a thoughtful expression.
"It's not as though I have anything against either of them personally but I'm not fond of being committed to one side or the other." She shrugged with in mild discomfort. While Shili was on the edge of it the planet was still in Sith controlled space. Talking badly about life under Sith rule might not be the wisest if she wished to have a long and prosperous life.
"And what do you mean by volunteering? Will they just take anyone off the street?" Maya questioned further. Thought she didn't think she would be fond of helping the Sith the prospect of working with Jedi was a welcomed one. She'd always read the heroic epics of Jedi. How they squashed out evil and restored balance to the galaxy.

"They do consider taking in people, sometimes off the street, as you say. The Jedi order isn't as large as everyone seems to think it is, especially with the Sith present. It shouldn't be too hard to get on with them."
Speaking as an former Jedi, they were always looking for volunteers from outside the order. There just wasn't enough Jedi in the order to cover everything to be done. He had worked with such people, and was even one of those non-order members for a short time after he left the order.
"And you may not wish to commit to one side or the other but honestly speaking? That is a fantastic way to get out and do some real good and get some great experience with some of the leading people of their respected career choices."
Ash had everything put away and the man turned around now, leaning up against his speeder and looking down on the girl.
"Keep in mind it isn't a lifetime choice. You dont need to stick with anyone or anything permanently, and once you get your fill in one thing, get your skills up to par, then you can go off and do your own thing, adventure around the galaxy. And not rush into bars."
He had a sly twinkle in his blue eyes now, a hint of a smile touching his lips.

A spark shown in the mans eyes with Maya's mention of the Jedi. For the first time in their short encounter the off putting aura that surrounding him pried apart with a grim, yet warming smile. Coming from a person who had been constantly berating her for the last few minutes the change was as unexpected as it was off putting. None the less the shift in attitude was a welcoming one causing Maya heart to settle some but only a little.
"Really?" Maya mused pressing a gloved finger to her lips in thought.
"Given the tensions with the Siths one would have thought the Jedi Order and their forces to be quite formidable." She puzzled at this new information.
"Either way. If they are lacking the numbers I suppose they'll accept nearly anyone to their cause." Maya noted with a gleam in her voice. By no means was she the toughest, nor the quickest. She couldn't fire a gun with accuracy, nor wield a blade to perform deadly strikes. No, what Maya lacked in brawn she more than made up for it with intellect. Hopefully that alone would be more than enough to qualify to aid in some regard.
"Then I think I'll do that." Maya nodded in confirmation after rolling her eyes at the mans "bar" comment.
"Uh... where exactly should I go though? I wouldn't imagine they'd have a recruitment office around the block. At least not out here in Sith space." Maya glanced around in a faux search for something she knew wouldn't be there.

"The Jedi are powerful, but it is made up of individuals. An an individual can only do so much before they need help, and bigger things need more people. The galaxy is a large place, with billions of people within."
Ash spoke evenly to this girl. She was on the right track, and just needed a push. He felt bad for acting as brash as he did before, but even he was sorting himself out with everything.
"And yea, you wouldn't find anything Jedi around here unless they were undercover. Head towards Coruscant, or any core planet. There are bound to be a Jedi or two mingling around, protecting the peace and whatnot."
He would have given her a ride, but his money lately has instead been going to alcohol rather than fuel for his starship to get off planet. Oh well. Maya would be able to figure something out. Spunky as she was, she just needed to use her head before getting into some fights.
