Aurora swept a long locke of hair behind her left ear before taking a seat at the small table set up in the lounge. A young human ensign stepped up and filled a cup with a light milky tea before stepping back. Aurora favored the young steward with a small smile and a nod. "Thank you, Ensign." The captain reached to her left and retrieved a datapad sitting next to the flatware on the table and scanned though the dossier on the new young doctor of the Hyperion. It had been four days since the new crew had been brought on to replace combat losses and much to Aurora's chagrin transfer even more of the ship's few veteran officers off to crews even less experienced than the Hyperion's. Aurora liked to meet with her new officers, but with the number coming aboard and the necessary resupply and repairs it had taken her several days to get down to the junior grade officers.
Aurora had a fuzzy recollection of the young human but had only had a brief cursory introduction as the new doctor arrived with a half dozen other sailors. She scanned the small somewhat cramped officers' lounge completing a large circle with the table Aurora was seated at was another five of the round light synth wood and plasteel tables. More lightly colored synth wood paneling hid the light great walls of the ship's bulkheads. It was something of a novel sight for the captain. She rarely had meals in the lounge typically preferring to eat with her general staff in the meeting room or squirreled away in her cabin. These meetings with the new officers were one of the few times she did grace the room with her presence.
Her attention was brought back to her table as the ensign placed to plates on the table. "Thank you again, ensign, I believe my guest and I can handle the rest you are dismissed." Truth be told she had held the ensign a fair way past his duty hours as it was now closing in on nine o'clock Corrusant time. She took a very gentle sip from the still-hot tea at her left as the ensign stepped though the powered door and out of the lounge. Aurora hoped the officer arrived before the food chilled.

It had been a strange few months since the Republic Commandos saved her and what remained of a scientific vessel's crew from a grime death. Patience however had made the call to enlist with the Republic military afterwards, partly because she felt like she owed the commandos who saved her life, partly because she could no longer ignore the war which waged about her. This career shift did little to impress her parents who still desired for her to go into the private medical field to at the very least start earning some decent money.
Patience however had been pleasantly surprised by the invitation to dine with the ship's commanding officer. Perhaps the commander wished to hear the tale of her survival first hand? She hoped not, it was far from the tale of glory and heroism, more a tale of desperately trying to keep wounded alive and find food as the ship fell apart. It was only by some miracle she happened to still be alive to talk about such an event, even if she preferred not to. The deaths of so many friends and crew hung heavily upon her heart. Doctors cannot always stop death, but she was damned if she would simply sit back and do nothing.
Patience knocked as she arrived, the door having been left opened. She offered a somewhat awkward salute, a hallmark of a civilian rushed through military training to get her out into the field. She was a trained medical specialist after all, someone with useful skills the Republic needed and a proven survivor. "Doctor Swole reporting as order Catpain... Erm Ma'am." Came the somewhat awkward greeting a nervous, uncertain smile. Patience Swole was a small woman, young with a thin frame and bright blue eyes. Her long blonde hair was somewhat contained in a ponytail and her dress uniform hat. The dress uniform though neat, looked awkward on her more as if the wearer were not used to military garb.

The soft sound of knuckles rapping on plasteel drew aurora's attention up from absently stirring her tea towards the doorway where a young woman stood stiffly. The captain straightened slightly with a soft "ah, doctor." while schooling her face into her gentle "commander" smile. Said cool smile warmed slightly with a further uptick at the corners of her pale pink lips at the woman's jerky salute and introduction. "At ease Doctor," she said as she gestured for the young woman to join her at the table. "This isn't an official review or anything. Please, sit."
As she waited for patience to cover the few feet from the entrance to the table she swept across the heavily laden cart bearing various containers. "I took the liberty of having brunch and a selection of beverages prepared. I tried to get a range of typical morning beverages hopefully there is something to your liking, please help yourself." She said carefully grasping the handle of her teacup with her right hand. "Personally, I'd recommend the milk tea." bringing up the cup to chest level before gesturing with it towards the woman before speaking. "But you could say I'm slightly biased." she smirked slightly as a bit of mirth colored her warm voice before bringing the cup to her lips for a quick sip.
Aurora smiled companionably as she resting the front of her teacup in her left hand as the waited for the woman to get comfortable. "As some of the other officers might have mentioned I like to check in with my officers personally from time to time particularly when they first come aboard." She began setting the cup down in front of here. "So, Tell me Dr. Swole how are you settling in on the Hyperion? I expect the accommodations and environment are quite different from your previous shipboard experiences."

Doctor Patience Swole all but dash for the chair, eager to sit down. The pomp and ceremony of the armed forces was still an awkward concept for her to grasp. She was used to the life of a civilian still, despite her military appearance. "Thank you." There was a long pause before she realised she forgot to add on the ma'am. But by then it was far too late to attempt to recover from her mistake, so she said nothing, rather than wishing to make the interaction more awkward by messing it up further. "Thank you Ma'am." The doctor said, moving in on the eggs and toast, before pouring herself a generous measure of juice. The speed in which she set on the food spoke of one who once found themselves in a survival situation where they were hunted. Swole still suffered from night terrors from that event. But she made it through alive along with a handful of others.
She finished her mouthful of eggs before replying. "It is different... Food is better for one though the quarters are a lot smaller." She managed an awkward shrug. "It is a lot different from an exploratory vessel... Just do not pick up any strange alien wildlife and it will be the best ship I've been on." Patience wished her advice had been heeded on the last ship she served aboard. Unfortunately for her as well as tragically for most of the crew... Few had listened to her reservations... "I'm glad to be here." She said, though there was a dark almost haunted look in her eyes for a few moments before she shook off whatever ghosts haunted her. She had been cleared by the medical board, she was healthy and able to operate.
"Feel free to ask anything you want." Patience offered as she took a sip of her juice.

Aurora lifted one of her eyebrows at the doctor's odd behavior equally amused and befuddled by the doctor's behavior as she virtually inhaled a large portion of eggs. "Doctor, I can assure you the plate will not sprout legs and skitter away." She said miming the motion of a spider with her free and a slight smirk before lifting her fork and taking a bite of her own eggs. The captain briefly had thanked the admiral once again in her mind as she was met with neither the rubbery texture of dehydrated egg substitute nor the interesting concoctions of the ship's previous head chef briefly savoring the taste of well-cooked if slightly undersalted egg.
Aurora cringed at let out a slightly awkward chuckle before speaking. "You wouldn't praise the food had you came shipboard a few weeks ago." She gently set her fork down before continuing. "Yes, the quarters are fairly cramped on the Hyperion unfortunately. However," She took a short pause to take a sip of tea before continuing. "At least the Hyperion is large enough that you don't have to hot bunk." She tilted her head quizzically as the Doctor mentioned strange animals. "I supposed I can't entirely eliminate that possibility, but it would be highly unusual." Aurora wasn't certain why she was asking such a thing. "Rest assured we mostly do convoy escort and pirate suppression and if it is any comfort I doubt any of your previous postings had a full company of troops for protection."
Aurora considered what questions she might want to ask as she broke open a pastry and coated one side with butter. "I've had a quick scan of your records as you would expect," she said pausing to take a bite from the pastry. "But I'll admit I've been rather pressed for time with all the new changes to the crew so tell me, doctor, what would you consider your expertise to be, and what made you want to jump to the navy?"
