Character Name Full Name • Jace Aleric Race • Human Birthplace • Coruscant Age • 19 Gender • male Sexuality • pansexual Faction • Fringe - Exchange Concept • Rank 1(Student) - Medical student turned indentured doctor Languages • Basic, Droidspeak, Wookie (Understand), Huttese Assets • Interdermal injector, haladreshin/confidence formula Appearance Face Claim • Asa Butterfield Height & Weight • 6'0", 147lbs Overall Looks • Jace has a perennially boyish look about him, not helped by his near innability to grow facial hair. He tries, on occasion, but it just ends up peppering his chin and upper lip, much to his annoyance. His hair, usually kept short in differing styles, seems to follow a flavour of the month in colour, with the young man perpetually changing it. Soft skin, only occasionally 'blemished' by darker freckles, tops of his appearance as someone just barely out of adolescence who spent all his life in study. His sense of style is, as best as can be described, eclectic. He doesn't buy designer clothes, not merely because he can't afford them (he can't), but because he sees them as a waste of money when there are plenty of decent cheap designs out there! So Jace can be found in pretty much any colour of the rainbow - though never in just one. Personality Profile Self-Confidence: Jace has none of it. He is constantly second-guessing himself, which is not a good trait for a doctor; which is a shame, as he has an extremely gifted mind. He has been known to have panic attacks when he is forced to make a decision - and often when he finally makes the decision, it is not beneficial to him or people around him. The story is much different when Jace takes his 'stimulant': He borders on arrogant and makes snap decisions. This makes him appear cool under pressure, but in reality, after the dose wears off, he questions everything that happened. Background Father • Hern Aleric, mid-level bureaucrat Mother • Pera Aleric, small store owner Other Important Connections • N/A Overall History • Hern and Pera met while Hern was assigned to perform a mandatory spot check of Pera's business. One checklist led to another, and soon Jace came into the world. An auspicious start. It was clear from very early on that Jace was a gifted child; not gifted in the way the Jedi were - no, there was no force sensitivity here. Instead, Jace blossomed academically, surging far ahead of his peers in school. So in front of everyone else that Jace was accepted for a full scholarship into the best medical academy on Coruscant at only fifteen! Here, Jace came unstuck. He found it difficult to make friends, as everyone was too focused on their studies. The course load began to weigh on Jace, and he quickly found himself falling behind his peers for the first time in his life. His self-confidence bottomed out, and Jace's grades began to plummet. One year in, and he was already at risk of losing his scholarship and place at the school. A knock at his door changed all of this. Another student at the school, close to graduation themselves, offered Jace a solution: Drugs, explicitly designed to enhance his neurological processes and give him the confidence boost he needed. At first, Jace refused, seeing the danger, but another near failing grade sent him scrambling back to the student. He asked how much and, of course, the first doses were free. The effects of the drugs were drastic and immediate: Jace's next test scores were perfect. Elated, the boy tried to repeat his success without the help of the medicines but found himself sorely disappointed. So he went back to the student, who offered the doses at a price Jace couldn't possibly afford; though they could provide it to him as a loan, provided he would repay it - with interest, of course. Jace agreed, promising in his mind that he would only use it sparingly. That didn't last. By the time of his graduation, Jace's debt had grown significantly. Just before the ceremony, the 'student' came to Jace and threatened him with exposure if he didn't pay up - or come work for them. Of course, he had no money, and his parents weren't rich enough to afford the debt, so it seemed he had little choice. So now Jace finds himself working for the Exchange, indentured to them for his debt for the foreseeable future. His parents, who had always supported him and would have accepted him dropping out, think that he is on placement for the Republic in backwaters. He prays that they never find out the truth. |
