Agol'aranar-class Beskar'gam Armour designed for hazardous environments Name • Agol'aranar-class Beskar'gam; usually shortened to 'Agol Armour' Classification • Armour Origin • Clan Ordo; Mandalorians
Specifications Size • Sized for humanoids; can be custom-fit for other races - Height: Varies - Width: Varies - Length: Varies
Appearance •
This heavily modified beskar'gam generally pays homage to it's origins and holds many of the Mandalorian staples for armour suits; however it has a somewhat lighter and more stripped down look to it's counterpart. The helmet in particular has a generally different look to it, featuring a pair of eye holes rather than a cross-shaped slit. To many it holds only a passing resemblance to a beskar'gam and instead borrows a lot of features of readily available and popular armours for mercenaries and bounty hunters, designed specifically to blend in to those groups without looking out of place.
Usually the undersuit is colored brown, often made of a strong leather material farmed from the native fauna of the planet Ordo, while the plating can be customized and colored by the wearer. Operatives wearing such armour are instructed to chip and scratch the armour themselves as well to make it look battle-worn, the user experienced and to obscure it's beskar construction. In addition to the brown leather undersuit, a lot of backpacks, pouches and equipment can be attached to the plating and belt, much more so than standard Mandalorian armour.
Function
To give a specific singular use for the Agol Armour would be somewhat defeating the point. While the traditional beskar'gam is excellent in battle conditions, it is not equipped for particularly harsh environments or for fast swarming predators. The Agol Armour was developed by Clan Ordo to conquer the challenges of one specific planet; their neighboring world of Taris.
Exploratory teams sent into Taris from Clan Ordo often found heavy personal equipment not only superfluous but dangerous to carry, as it would get snag or be easy targets for the resident rakghouls during hunts. A much more stripped down, support-based armour was therefore put into development and what came out of that testing was the Agol Armour.
The helmet features air filters designed to stop fine radioactive particulates from entering the environmentally sealed suit. In general, the suit features a much higher degree of radiation and heat protection, utilizing inner padding made from materials commonly found in Hutt cartel mining operations. This also makes it much more effective in cold environments also, as the padding can be inverted to instead absorb body heat and radiate it back towards the user (though the suit would have to be removed to do so, obviously). This environmental sealing also comes with a self-circulating air supply that automatically activates in a vacuum or when dangerous conditions are detected; sealing the filters and keeping the user supplied with air for up to 3 hours. The air canister can be replaced and wearers will generally carry a supply of them on their person.
With all the standard features of a user-HUD, the visor in the helmet is generally not much different than in a standard beskar'gam, however it operates with a fraction of the processing power, resulting in poor zoom speed, interface lag and significantly less effectiveness at low power. This has it's benefits but obviously this is a weakness of the suit; because it uses much less power it is much harder to pick up on EMP scanners and it's radio frequency is only detectable at close range (usually around 50m; depending on the strength of the scanner). The reason for this lack of operating power is to save weight.
Due to the added filters, air supply and padding, the Agol Armour was originally much heavier than it's origin. Since the purpose of the project was to avoid bulk, this of course had to be rectified. As such, every tiny amount of weight that can be stripped out is vital, including stripping down the amount of armour plating on the suit, as well as the actual make-up of the beskar. The plates are instead made of a durasteel/beskar alloy to be just a little lighter and more flexible but obviously sacrificing protection. Lightsabers and blaster bolts will find it much easier (though still difficult) to penetrate the metal plating.
Other functions added to the suit as it was refined over time include magnetizable boots, compatibility with existing sets of Mandalorian gauntlets, an external power supply for powering tools such as saws, plasma torches and even heavy weapons for a short time and recon-specialized versions of the helmet that operate on much more processing power. The suit itself is of a fairly standardized design and compatible with a lot of support equipment, also containing a great deal of modular storage capacity for containing said support equipment. Not all of this modularity is intended to be used at once; it's up to the user to determine how much bulk is appropriate for their mission.
As such, it is theorized that beyond it's current specific use, it can be very effective for Mandalorian support personnel such as medics, field mechanics and pilots. Right now, it is generally given to operatives in Clan Ordo (with limited numbers going to trusted friends of the clan) in order to salvage the inhospitable world of Taris and to disguise their clan members as standard bounty hunters and mercenaries as they search for members of Clan Ordo scattered in Hutt Space after the Chorus.
