QA-1 Retaliator Assault Walker Republic all-terrain walker Name • QA-1 Retaliator Assault Walker Classification • Ground Vehicle Origin • Rendaii Heavy Motor Works Specifications Size • - Height: 10m (normal standing posture) - Width: 3m (hull) - Length: 6.5m (hull) Appearance • A towering walker with a two-man crew, a driver and gunner, the Retaliator consists of an angled, turret-like main hull mounted on a quadrupedal locomotion centre. The dorsal side of the hull is heavily armoured in durasteel, and its frontal sloping helps it to resist blaster fire. It is armed with a repeating blaster cannon in a chin turret, and in its standard configuration, a bank of eight vertical missile launchers in the rear topside of its hull. Function The Retaliator is a Republic military experiment in delivering long-range indirect fire support while exploiting the greatest advantage of walker locomotion: the ability to navigate difficult terrain and steep inclines where repulsorlift vehicles cannot go. Though it comes equipped with a suite of long-range sensors enabling it to acquire its own targets from a distance, it also possesses advanced communications equipment allowing it to receive target positional data from allies so that the gunner can plot firing solutions while the walker remains hidden from the enemy. While the blaster cannon turret is primarily for self-defence, it can be used to great effect as an anti-personnel weapon in direct combat. As with all walker vehicles, the Retaliator’s greatest weakness is the vulnerability of its sparsely armoured legs to weapons fire. However, it is designed with an answer to this threat in mind; its legs are articulated in such a way that it can crouch in place in a hull-down position, shielding its weak points behind its strongly armoured body. Nonetheless, its missile launchers present a large gap in its armour. Prototypes are underway to equip the Retaliator with different primary weapons in a dorsal mount in place of the missile launchers; a heavy laser cannon for direct anti-armour and siege combat, and quadruple light laser cannons in a high-angle turret for anti-air defence. |
