Mandalorian Crisis
A crisis is unfolding in Mandalorian Space.
A new Mandalore, dubbed the Vigilant, has taken power after the disappearance of Mandalore the Regulator, who is presently presumed dead. Such shifts have become commonplace among the Mandalorian clans in recent years — Mandalore the Vigilant is the sixth to claim the role in roughly a decade. However, while his predecessors assumed control over a people united in wartime against a common foe, the circumstances facing Mandalore the Vigilant are very different.
Though the Mandalorians are, officially, at peace, a sequence of disasters have rocked their space since the end of the Archeri Crisis. Following Mandalore the Regulator’s disappearance, a band of terrorists assaulted and destroyed the dreadnought and Mandalorian flagship Par’Jila. The clans have since fallen into infighting, most fiercely punctuating the recently-concluded competition to name the new Mandalore.
While Mandalorian space officially retains its sovereignty, the situation on the ground appears to be that its security has fallen to that of the warring clans, rather than a central, unified command structure.
Even with Mandalore the Vigilant’s claim to power, reports suggest that several clans continue to resist his ascension and sporadic skirmishes are breaking out across Mandalorian space. The Galactic Republic and Sovereign Sith Empire have, officially, maintained neutral diplomatic stances on the budding conflict. However, Republic forces have reportedly established outposts along contested edges of Mandalorian Space. The Sith Empire’s plans are less clear, but the previous Mandalore’s call for a Galactic hunt on Force users led to a well-documented souring of relations between the former allied powers.
