Artell likes his dirt-blonde hair groomed and his underwear clean, but those trousers have permanent grease stains and the duster looks like it’s seen better days – it’s got a black patch on the left elbow and a nicked left cuff. Little grime under bitten down fingernails never hurt anyone. A bit soft around the edges, he’s not looking to compete in strength contests any time soon. For all intents and purposes, he looks supremely average. Artell prefers neutral colors, carries a datapad everywhere, and never leaves without his duster. Personality Profile A bookworm before anything else, Artell generally has three novels going at the same time – one non-fiction, one fiction, one romance. The first expands his knowledge of the universe, tactics, and schemes that help his own plots. The second fuels his creativity. The third is just for fun. He’s a drifting trickster who seeks adventure and scams, building up a small nest egg and then business wealth, but has a tendency to wear the same duster and busting out his boot’s sole before buying new ones. Food is his weakness, though, and he will spend exorbitant credits for a really good or unique meal experience. His complicated schemes are planned out weeks in advance and sometimes inflexible. Money from his previous schemes go into the new one. Artell prefers targeting “the bad ones”, but who’s bad is subjective on who he’s working for, if anyone. The schemes are like puzzles, and he enjoys a good puzzle. Therefore, if he’s hired, the majority of wealth goes to the person who hired him, while he takes a cut. He obviously does not see himself as a “bad” person, but his moral compass can be a bit dubious. This also means he’s scammed plenty of people, which means there’s plenty of spots open to make an enermy. Or a frenemy. Artell shares introverted and extroverted traits. He actually enjoys busy cantinas, rousing card games, collaborating with the crew of the ship he’s chosen for that month. Talk is no problem – he has a wealth of topics of discussion. Background Father • Jethro Karradi, 56, Mechanic – land vehicles Mother • Gema Karradi, 54, University Professor Siblings • Leoken Karradi, 26, Graduate, Doctoral Candidate - Brother Other Important Connections • Kirsan Girdol, 34, business manager, best friend (past) Aetasleke, 62, Captain of Crystal Moon – former captain and friend Pann Mazi, 30, Master Thief – friend, previous romantic interest Overall History • He would tell you he had a boring, average childhood. Wake up, go to school, help out at the shop, get greasy, shower. Rinse. Repeat. It was his wild teenage hormones that saw him into a lot of trouble. He “borrowed” speeders from his father’s shop, convinced his acquaintances and friends into races, but rigged the speeders so his bets came out more positive. Artell also enjoyed card games and magic tricks, practicing his sleight of hand by swindling his friends and entertaining his younger brother. His troublemaking tempered when he began a higher education in mechanical engineering. Growing bored of the studying, Artell turned to party life and gambling for entertainment. His grades slipped. Tensions rose between him and his parents. He dropped from the university, then couch surfed when his parents stopped supporting him. When a friend offered a way off planet, through his father’s trading company, Artell figured it was as good an opportunity as any to leave Onderon. He started as a mechanic on a smaller, independent transport vessel – The Crystal Moon. Simple life – hard and plenty of time to read, and lots of games with other crewmates. The captain, Tas, liked to gamble as well, and she and Artell enjoyed small bets. He helped her reacquire the ship after she lost it in a high stakes game. Artell left after that, much more interested in the individuals she’d gambled with. He talked his way onto another ship, and another after that. Artell drifted ship to ship and planet to planet. He scammed pirates with fake spice. Provided a fake tome to a collector. Stolen ships back from thieves. Convinced numerous people to invest in a fake company or fake products. Some things are as simple as selling subpar crystals, furs, and ship parts. Other jobs require careful planning and hiring a few temporary friends. It was during a switching heist he met and crushed hard on a fellow thief, a nautolan named Pann Mazi. Artell hired him many times, and although they were good friends, Pann didn’t share Artell’s feelings. When the two last went their separate ways six years ago, Pann left his duster. Although holding individual wealth after a decade, Artell still prefers to board spacefaring vessels going… anywhere. He likes finding the people caught in strict or unfair agreements, those who have been robbed, mistreated, or prejudiced. He doesn’t particularly care who the victim is, as long as there is a victim. Sometimes he comes up with a specific target, and leisurely makes his way to carry out a scheme, but it’s always best when the jobs seem to find him; really, it’s because anyone can be a victim or target. |
