'Project Adamas' test imminent
The Galactic Republic has announced plans to conduct a major test of Coruscant’s planetwide shielding network soon. The test will follow the conclusion of planned naval drills in the Coruscant System. All traffic in and out of Coruscant is to cease prior to and during the shield system test, in what will be the first major stoppage of travel to the world in years.
The Sovereign Sith Empire launched a failed attack on the Republic capital world during the Pan-Galactic War. Though the Sith were rebuffed and the Battle of Coruscant marked the end of the major Imperial offensive that characterized much of the early stages of the war, the Republic has worked diligently in the years since to bolster the world’s defensive systems. Military officials have described the significant shielding system upgrades, codenamed Project Adamas, as a central component of these plans.
During the test, Republic naval vessels are expected to fire on the planetary shielding system over designated zones across the planet that have been prepared to withstand orbital bombardment, should the system experience an unexpected failure. Officials say civilians have nothing to fear during this test and a planet-wide alert will be issued before the test commences.
Republic officials have not acknowledged the Sith Empire in any communications regarding this action. However, the test comes during the worst tensions between the two nations since the end of the Pan-Galactic War, and as the Galactic Senate is expected to soon decide the fates of Republic Naval officers responsible for violating the JMOC agreement with the Empire during the Battle of Nar Shaddaa.
When reached for comment, Chancellor Alder Vrieska’s office issued the following statement:
“The Galactic Republic began evaluating Coruscant's defensive capabilities under Chancellor Victoria Aspen Naaden in the aftermath of the Sith attack during the Pan-Galactic War. Chancellor Vrieska has prioritized this work to ensure Coruscant remains secure and has a strong defensive foundation to build upon for future generations. This work has been ongoing for years predating any current geopolitical issues and has reached its conclusion, leading to a natural need for testing to ensure the systems’ efficacy.”
