Republic Embraces War Crimes
The Republic Senate has voted to pardon the entire group of so-called officers who murdered thousands of Imperial soldiers in a cowardly strike after the defeat of the Archeri Chorus over Nar Shaddaa. The vote was surprising in only the sense that several systems were against the pardons. It is yet another example of the lawlessness permitted to run rampant under the guise of democracy.
“Is it any wonder that countless systems seek refuge in the Empire from the gang-style rule of the Republic?” asks Lord Tilen of Edusa. Lord Tilen’s late wife, Admiral Zela Tilen of the HRS Severance, was lost when her ship was destroyed by the alleged rogue attack. “When the corrupt rule, the only thing that can be expected is a corrupt ruling. I thank my maker every day that we live in the light of Her Radiance, where justice is done. I remind our neighboring systems that they too can know true peace and freedom. They need only cast aside the chains that bind them to a system that seeks only to enrich itself and cares not for the rule of law.”
The Senate’s actions have made clear that there was never any intention to punish the officers for their crimes. Indeed, prolonged debate preceeding the vote seemed to serve more as a backdrop for certain Senators to spout their hateful rhetoric as they dismissed mass murder as part of the oath taken by honorable soldiers. Senator Kenten’s remarks are plainly the ramblings of a man desperate to regain the power he lost when Dantooine embraced the Empire.
While the Empress is not expected to legitimize this grave insult of a ruling with a response, a member of the Imperial Cabinet offered the following under the condition that their identity remains undisclosed.
“We Imperial subjects, and indeed all lawful beings of the galaxy, are pained yet unsurprised by this grave miscarriage of justice,” their statement says. “It is but the latest example of a long tradition of corruption decaying the Republic from within.
“The Supreme Chancellor’s words are meaningless. He claims the Republic stands upon the rule of law, but does nothing as the Senate proves just how wrong that statement is. These pardons show yet again that he is either powerless to enforce the law, or worse, a willing accomplice in circumventing it. It is rather convenient that he is able to bemoan these actions while he stands by as the Senate frees these murderous cowards.”
