Name: Caius Falcast
[KYE-us + FAHL-cast]Birth Name: Ares FalcastRace: Kiffar
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Height: 5'2''
Weight: 122 lbs
Birthplace: Kiffex
Appearance:CLICK Eye Color: Silvery Green
Hair Color: Coppery Brown
Build: Small, Athletic
Complexion: Fair/Pale
Caius is a slender young man, the beginnings of an athletic build obscured beneath the folds of his robes. Bronze-brown hair adorns his head, its healthy sheen resembling that of copper. The young Kiffar prefers to keep his hair at a medium length, wearing his Padawan-braid behind his right ear. Caius' silvery eyes are clear and bright despite his blindness, a hint of green in their depths adding a chromatic contrast to his features. Caius can always be found in his layered Jedi robes, usually in the combination of white, grey, and black. He also often sports browns, blues, and the occasional faded green, all mixed with various shades of grey and white.
Caius' dress and grooming is typically very neat and orderly despite the fact that he cannot see beyond the ability to vaguely sense bright lights or colors of sufficient intensity. The boy will habitually check and/or re-adjust his robes and/or possessions many times throughout the hours of the day, occasionally asking those around him as to the nature of his appearance should he have reason to suspect something is out of place. Checking and double-checking is a constant in the blind youth's world, since becoming lost or disoriented in any way can put him into a state of panic. Caius will take quite some time to think things through before asking for the assistance of others, especially when it comes to learning and/or doing something new. He has developed a touch of pride in this way, as he dislikes (to his mind) risking embarrassment by not being able to figure things out quickly and on his own.
Personality:Young Caius often shows uncanny insight into people and situations, able to understand them due to his habit of picking up on minute details via his natural senses (except sight of course), telepathy, and even psychometry to some degree. Caius typically keeps these insights to himself however, very rarely vocalizing his discoveries unless asked to do so. This is unsurprising though, given the boy's soft-spoken nature.
Shy and cautious in demeanor, Caius is rarely one to approach strangers or be the first to introduce himself. The young Kiffar knows well that life holds many added dangers and difficulties for the blind, and so he usually tries to gain all the information he can before taking action. Even something as simple as walking into an unfamiliar room requires preparation for him, as he will almost always want to figure out the room's layout before venturing too far. Caius will first attempt to glean such details on his own before finally asking for help via verbal inquiry, often using telepathy or psychometry to assist him, or simply listening to the foot-falls of those around him as they move about.
Caius is one to spend large amounts of time in study, proving himself quite intelligent due to his diligence in giving attention to detail. As such, the young Padawan has developed a knack for picking up on the subtle nuances of change in peoples' voices, and depending on whether or not he is able to delve deeper via telepathy, he is usually able to tell when people are lying or trying to hide something. Due to his constant use of his Force senses, telepathy, and psychometry, Caius is often seen in silent contemplation, either quietly sitting or standing off to the side, or slowly making his way around the room, running his hands over or above just about anything he can reach, although not in a manner in which he attracts much attention. As is true with many shy teens, Caius is mostly seen, not heard, and even then people sometimes forget he's there. The old "My, you were so quiet I forgot you were here!" holds a familiar ring to the boy's ears.
Other Traits:As a Kiffar, young Caius has pale silver-grey
qukuuf tattoos on the left side of his face and on both shoulders. The Falcast differed from traditional Kiffar clans in that they sometimes did not tattoo their faces with their clan markings, but rather preferred to mark other parts of their bodies - usually running them down the length of the spine or on their shoulders. They took up this practice soon after they began getting involved with Dark Side cults (such as the Ember of Vahl), presumably to hide their true identities as members of the Kiffar race and of the cursed clan Falcast and blend in more seamlessly with other near-humans. Also, the
qukuuf of clan Falcast tended to be more intricate in design than those of their fellow Kiffar.
The qukuuf on the left resides on the side of Caius' face, surrounding his eye.
The tattoo on the right marks the boy's shoulders.Faction: Jedi Order

The Story of Jedi Apprentice Caius Falcast:--| The Falcast Legacy |--To those that know of them, the clan name Falcast has become synonymous with the term 'outcast'. On their homeworld of Kiffex, the Falcast clan were once amongst the social elite, bearing titles of royalty. They were revered as sorcerers, having mysterious arcane powers at their command. In truth, most of the Falcasts simply used their innate telepathic abilities and precognitive talents to spread their influence within their society, exaggerating tales of their prowess in order to intimidate their political rivals. The ruse succeeded, and for hundreds of years clan Falcast enjoyed social privilege as royal advisers in the island nation in which they lived. Eventually however, as new generations of Falcast rose and fell, the leaders of the clan turned in a different direction. Many of them began to practice Dark Side techniques, fueling their growing hunger for power. Soon they orchestrated a coup d'etat, using their considerable wealth to fund their siege of the island. Many joined their cause, whether by fear, lure of the Dark Side, or mental manipulation. The Falcast held the island's populace by the throat for several decades, extolling heavy taxes from the people to replenish the clan's monetary resources. They even eventually went on to conduct cruel experiments, researching the brains of those in their populace who could touch the Force to see if there was a correlation between the brain and the function of midichlorians.
Eventually, as the Falcast clan grew, power came to rest exclusively on the shoulders of the three eldest and most powerful Falcast siblings: Dorian, Hera, and Lucien. The trio worked together for a time, turning back the occasional resistance group or rioter that dared to defy them. Eventually however, the three turned on one another, throwing the island into chaos once again. Such is the way of the Dark Side, or so the Jedi claim. Whatever the cause, the trio's machinations resulted in a civil war amongst the Falcast and their followers. Finally sensing weakness in their island neighbors, the mainland sent in forces to capture the territory for themselves. Most of the Falcast were wiped out in the ensuing battles, and those that weren't were cast out, forced to live out the rest of their days confined to their original estate up in the island's small mountain ridge. As time went on, the Falcast legacy became a legend, and legend became myth. As the decades wore on, the Falcast clan splintered off across the galaxy. The majority of them retained their anonymity, settling mostly in the Outer Rim. However, the Falcast name would eventually become known to the Jedi Order when several Falcast became involved in Dark Side cults, including the Ember of Vahl. As they became prominent as Dark Jedi, they were eventually targeted by the Jedi. Before the birth of young Caius, only two of the Falcast ever joined the Jedi Order, the others refused to turn from the Dark Side and were eventually destroyed. Such is the legacy of the Falcast.
--| Legacy |--Years 0 - 4Caius Falcast was born into a world of strife. His father, Kharne, was a practitioner of the Dark Side, involved with a sadistic group of cultists who called themselves the
Anumati. The Anumati had existed in secret for centuries, lusting for power and striving after pseudo-religious relics with a connection to the Force. This group had found several willing recruits amongst the Falcast besides Kharne, with many of them rising steadily through the ranks of their twisted order. In addition to hunting ancient artifacts and practicing heinous powers of the Dark Side, the Anumati kidnapped Force sensitives as well, conducting cruel experiments on them in an effort to learn more about the Force and midichlorians, much like clan Falcast had done in the past. Such activities did not go totally unnoticed of course, but each time the Anumati began to feel the scrutinizing eye of the law or the Jedi getting nearer, they would vanish into the Outer Rim and Unknown Regions, sometimes spending years apart from one another. The occasional death of one of their members did little to deter them either, as the galaxy was and forever shall be in no shortage of dark, twisted souls.
Caius' mother Natali however, would have nothing to do with the Anumati, and along with her most trusted handmaiden, she took her new-born son and fled from the Outer Rim to the Core Worlds. In truth she had been more of a slave than a wife, and though she despised Kharne utterly, she desperately loved the child born to her and wanted to give him a life that would be far better than her own. Natali and the handmaiden eventually ended up on Coruscant, moving many times around and even across the city-planet in order to find a suitable place to raise the boy Caius and throw any pursuit off the trail. Natali was even able to give her son a normal level of education, getting him started on his reading and writing skills at an early age. Little Caius caught on quickly, and it was obvious to the handmaiden and the boy's mother that given enough time and training, he would grow to become quite the intellectual. Caius' mother also taught him about their clan, the Falcast, and their ability to touch the Force, speaking to him via telepathy as much as she did verbally, just as she had done from the time she had become aware of her pregnancy. This of course was harder for the boy to grasp, but he was quite used to hearing his mother's voice in his mind. And though he had not yet the skill to reply to her telepathically with more than a single word, Natali knew he was not afraid of the experience and understood that it was her, as he would usually look up at her with his clear, silver-green eyes and smile. This strategy worked for several years, and Caius grew normally, a perfectly healthy boy for the first few years of his life. That would all change very soon however.
Just after the boy's fourth birthday, Kharne finally succeeded in tracking Caius down. It was a violent affair, with Caius' birth-father determined to take the boy for himself, to train him as an apprentice of the Anumati. Natali was struck down in the attack, she giving her life to ensure the handmaiden would escape with the child safely. Unfortunately, both Caius and the handmaiden were injured during the struggle, the pair of them escaping, but only just. The young handmaiden was injured far worse than Caius however, and knowing she was on the verge of death, she decided to take the child to the Jedi Temple, where she knew he would be safe and well cared for. The handmaiden died later that day despite the efforts of the Jedi Healers, and Kharne disappeared, biding his time for another opportunity to take Caius and use him for his own ends, to train him to "take his place as the next true heir of the Falcast".
Caius of course was deeply traumatized by these events, distraught over the loss of his mother and Talyssa, the young caregiver Natali had entrusted her son's life to.
