Birth place:Corulag
Occupation: Politician, Banker, Businessman, Playboy,
Rank: Senator of Ord Mantell
Bio: Rupert was born thirty-eight years ago to the president of Corulag Banking and Trust, the second largest bank in the galaxy. His mother like many socialites had very little contact with her son, and didn’t know how to say no to him. Rupert’s father took great pride in his son and full well expected him to take up the family business, and when the time was right inherit the Corulag Bank and Trust. His father was eager to encourage a understanding of Business in his son often took him to the stock market on Coruscant as well as to his own work as the president of a Bank.
Rupert like all children of his background had the best education until he was ten years old he had a private tutor that covered many of the basic subjects, like language arts and planetary geography. It became apparent that Rupert was a bright boy, but one who wasn’t very interested in excelling academically. He was more interested in play with the many expensive toys his family could afford to get him. Which wasn't helped by the laid back education style of a private tutor.
At the age of ten he was sent off to one of best boarding schools in the republic. Rupert could have cared less about getting in so it is some coincidence that not long after he entered school there a new wing was built for the science department. Rupert’s father always said the judicious application of capital could solve any problem.
Rupert once again didn’t strive very hard in his studies. He usually performed well, but academics was not were he made his name at school. He made his name with the stunts he would pull either to make money or just for the shear delight of it. Some of his greatest cappers including throwing a party in the head masters office, with tickets at five credits a head, The replacing of the meat substitute in the cafeteria with actual meat, and of course the ever popular hacking into the school computer system to change grades. Rupert made 500 credits on that last one. Most of these schemes were eventually smoothed over by the appearance of new building on campus not long after he was found out. So it was that Rupert spent his adolescence being a general menace, like many a smart rich lad with parents who won’t say no.
After he finished his time at the boarding school Rupert was admitted to one his father alma mater, the Obra-Skai Business School. His grades were relatively impressive but the fact he was a legacy, of one of the richest men in the core sealed the deal. Rupert managed to complete his education mostly because they knew he would undoubtedly sire another filthy rich son who would pay for a new liberal arts building. So the were pretty easy to buy off. Rupert would always remember it as a happy time. He once stocked the main fountain with fish and spent the entire first week fishing on the quad. He said he did it for the bemused looks of freshman. That stunt got the school a nice new bronze of its founder.
Rupert could have done anything after he graduated from university. He already had quite a large trust fund worth about 214 million credits, and the degree that could get him just about any job he saw fit to try for. Trying wasn’t one of Rupert’s strong points at this time. So he started slumming around the Midrim with a luxury tramp freighter. He spent His father wasn’t happy about this but that is the funny thing about a trust fund. Once you reach age of maturity your father can do nothing about it.
For the first six months he followed around a rock band in their midrim tour. He still has a half dozen shirts from that tour, mostly in bad shape. It was also at this time he met a girl. She was from Naboo and had come to Fallen to see the band played. They hit it off and she told him to look her up if he ever came to Naboo.
About a year later Rupert got involved with a Hutt and did some small time smuggling. For Rupert it wasn't about the money it was about the adventure. He did some smuggling of contraband goods into the Sith Empire. He was relatively successful at it. Most people don't check a rich playboys ship to closely. He wasn't able to keep up with it forever though, and eventually the Sith found out about his smuggling. He managed to escape before a group of Sith fighters that ambushed him were able to destroy his ship.
Rupert having no choice but to retire from smuggling. He ended up laying low for a while on Iradonia. He did some camping on the second moon and enjoyed it quite a bit. After about a year he heard it was going to be turned into a refugee camp after a Super Nova in a near by star system had created millions of Refuges. Rupert immediately bought the moon protect it from the rampaging horde of Refuges. This made him quite unpopular so he hired some security to keep people off the moon and packed up heading for a new place.
Along the way a bounty hunter working for the Sith came after his ship. He managed to escape crippling the bounty hunters ship. Rupert made the decision to retire his current ship and pick up a new one. So he stopped by Kuat and spent six months there while his new ship was built the way he wanted it.
After a couple of years of just drifting Rupert decided to finally look up that girl. As it turned out she had ended up being elected Queen. She greeted Rupert politely but clearly he interest in the good looking rouge at the concert had waned. Rupert took it in stride and maintained he was there on business, so to prove it he acquired a four star restaurant. He managed to slip away from Naboo most of his pride intact and another piece of expensive real estate in his pocket.
Throughout his adventures he was known to have had many a lady friend. He didn't mind to much what species they were from a woman was pretty much a woman in his book. He did draw the line a Hutts however. Just because you acted like a woman didn't you mean you were. In there case it meant they were still a hermaphroditic slug. It was trying to impress one of these women that he managed to buy a diamond the size of his fist. He kept the Diamond and a few weeks later had a new lady.
When he was around twenty seven years old he noticed his high living had put a pretty big dent in his sizable trust fund, and all he had to show for it was two luxury starships, a small moon, a four star restaurant on Naboo, a diamond the size of your fist, and what would most likely be a list of illegitimate children the length of your arm. He had spent nearly 120 million credits. He still had plenty left though. Its not that wasting his not so hard earned money was a problem for him it was just starting to get boring. There were only so many shiny things out there to buy and only so many curvy things out there to bed. So Rupert began a new chapter in his life. He decided to finally make use of the education he slept through and go into business, with his characteristic flair of course.
He decided to open a casino. The problem was that a gaming license was not easily available on most planets. Ord Mantell being a pretty small but well located planet managed to avoid many laws on the subject. So Rupert setteled on Ord Mantell and planned on opening his casino there. Most of the other gaming magnets thought Ord Mantell would be a bust. It was to small they said. They thought there was no way a man like Rupert could run a successful gaming business on a place like Ord Mantell. They would have been right had Rupert actually been a truly careless playboy. Behind his smirk of superiority however was genuine superiority.
He opened the first casino on Ord Mantell. It was amazingly successful, within one month he had made his investment back and by the end of year had made nearly 900million in profit. No one had realized how the trade routes around Ord Mantell would swarm with the rich and shameless when Rupert’s palace to pleasure was opened. The corner stone of his business plan however was not pulling in high rollers. It was making regular people feel like high rollers. Dinners were comped left and right. A dirty dock worker plus a free dinner and a seemingly endless supply of booze equals many a month’s salary finding its way into Rupert bank account.
Rupert’s Casino had made money hand over fist. Many businessmen were surprised that this young upstart had made that much money and for the first time in many years Rupert’s father was genuinely proud of him, his mother was to drunk to care. It was not the money or the approval he did it for however it was the simple fact he was bored and there weren’t many better games then big business. The adrenaline rush was wonderful.
After a year with a successful casino which would soon become a chain of swanky place throughout the galaxy, Rupert diversified. His next investment was to build a large shipyard at Ord Mantell. He built this crazy new adventure into a bankable company catering to the private field. While the big shipyard fought over government military contracts the Ord Mantell shipyard gobbled out private contracts for cargo vessels.
Rupert’s next big investment was into reality. Ord Mantell had grown a lot since Rupert had opened his casino and now the housing market was booming. Rupert being now the richest man on the planet was in a prime position to take advantage of it and he did. When all was said and done he owned 12% of the planets surface. Only the planets government owned more then him.
When Rupert turned 34 he was honored with being placed in an article. HNN published a list of the most wealthy men in the Republic. Rupert Ranald was ranked 26th with a personal value of 48 billion. His father had not even cracked the top 50. It was a bit delicious for Rupert to have out done his father who had given up on him after he didn't go into business after school. On top of that he was the second youngest person on the list. The only younger one was a monarch of a core world whose father had died just the year before. It was quite a rush for him to be there. He had done just about everything he could on Ord Mantell; he was raking in ridiculous amounts of money.
He was one of the most powerful businesses men in to Republic, and once again Rupert was starting to get bored. He had about had it with business it was just getting to easy. Like his father had said, "Nothing can't be solved the judicious use of capital." Rupert was proof of that but now he had more capital then he could use in a life time. There wasn't much else he could do with it. He had become as rich and powerful as he could care to try with his current job. He needed a new Job, otherwise what use was all he had now he had nothing to do with it. With boredom and a mild depression starting to set in he set upon what he would do. He would run for the Senate. He certainly had the money to do it. He also employed a good chunk of Ord Mantell. With the 'judicious' use of capital he would break into a whole new field. He would become a politician, that would certainly be a bit entertaining if a bit dirty.
So he did when later that year the next election came around for Senator he ran. It was a hard campaign. He was running against a veteran politician, who a reputation for getting down and dirty if he needed to. It was a tough election with much mud thrown between them. Rupert's opponent harped on his playboy character evening bringing up his brief stint in smuggling. Rupert fired back with his successful business history reminding people he was more then pretty face. It was pretty tight until the last weeks of the election when Rupert's campaign found out about his opponents mistress. The turned people against the Veteran Senator, turned out people didn't care much about your dalliances so long as you were up front with them. Rupert's campaign manged to rally with this bit of information in closing weeks and win convincingly in the election.
So he went to Coruscant. he quickly found himself a junior member of both the Banking committee and the budgetary committee. Due to his business experience he was ideal for them and there was no point in him trying to resist the idea. He had wanted to lay low for a while and figure out how the world of politics worked. In business you had quite a bit you could get away with because no one really was watching you but this was a new place entirely.
He started working hard, and having fun doing it. He discovered that it just made sense to govern well. Not sure why it was but it just was. Even if it required him to not be selfish sometimes. Even with his new found responsibility he didn't give up his playboy streak. He would often finish a hard day in the senate by going and doing something irresponsible. It made him quite an odd character in the senate, but certainly not less able.

Rupert was sipping a fine Port. The flavor was so beautiful it had the wonderful bite of most alcohols this one however had a nice fruity flavor followed by a nice nuttiness. He was sitting in his apartment watching the sun set on the Senate District of the capital world. Soon it would come to life with dinner parties, and balls. On the table beside him was the latest spending proposals. The senator of Corulag was suggesting that the republic needed to expand military spending. The way he purposed to do this was to take money away from health services in small outer rim colonies. Rupert was not opposed to the idea of increased funding for the military, but at the expense of hospitals? He didn't like even if it only effected a few hundred thousand people. He knew where he stood on it and what he would have to do.
It left a sour taste in his mouth all this goodness. He doubt he would ever be used to it. How could people spend their lives doing it? He placed a call downstairs to get his speeder ready. The work day was now over and the night was beginning. He had reservations to one of the swankiest places in the district. He changed quickly into a ridiculously expensive ensemble for the evening, complete with a blue velvet waist length cape. He thought it made him look dashing. He checked himself in the hallway mirror before heading down to the hanger.
When he got there the and orange speeder with a blue racing stripes was waiting for him. It was a beautiful machine that was barely legal to be used on such a crowded planet as Coruscant. He climbed in it and kicked started the engines to life. They purred full of power. He was feeling better already. If the drive didn't get the sour taste out of his mouth the twenty something Corellian intern he was picking up for tonight certainly would. God was she gorgeous. As he sped off into the night Rupert wondered absentmindedly why such a pretty girl would want to be involved in politics.
