Name: Kaizo Vel-Dun
(KAI-zo + Vel-DUNE)
Race: Kel Dor
Gender: Male
Age: 50
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 255 lbs
Birthplace: Dorin
Appearance:
(I do not own / take credit for this image.)
Kaizo is quite imposing despite his discreet nature. Tall and impressively muscular, he possesses a firm constitution thanks to the vigorous routine of martial arts and swordsmanship he undertakes on a daily basis. The Jedi Master's tough Kel Dor hide adds to his formidability, allowing him to shrug off minor blunt force trauma and even survive in the vacuum of space for a short time. As with all of his race, Kaizo's face is framed by extrasensory organs that terminate in small black tusks, which gift him with heightened reflexes. Unlike others of his race however, he was born with a rare birth defect, giving him five fingers on each hand instead of four, each ending in small sharp claws.
Kaizo is known for wearing a hood whether indoors or not, almost never taking it off, which would be considered very strange were it not for the fact that he has long been a Jedi Shadow. Adding to his ambiguity are the specialized goggles and antiox breath mask covering his face, which enable him to operate in the various atmospheric conditions of the galaxy's planets. Kaizo's apparel consists of dark brown and grey Jedi robes, crafted from highly durable fabrics, leathers, and even armorweave. The Kel-Dor occasionally wears several pieces of heavy armor as well, both to condition his body and to protect him while out on dangerous missions. The bronze and black armor is from one of his missions as a Jedi Shadow and highly resistant to attacks from a lightsaber.

Personality:
Kaizo is a reserved person, considered to be pragmatic, knowing where and how to direct his focus. His modest nature extends so far as to cast a certain mysteriousness about him, considering that even those whom he works with closely know few personal details about him. Kaizo's modest demure is also his way of mastering his own inner darkness, which he also diffuses through lightsaber combat and other martial training. Like many Kel Dor, he has a very strong sense of justice and tends to view moral and ethical issues as being black and white, with very little grey inbetween. This makes Kaizo very steady in his beliefs and able to express himself firmly when he sees the need to. In addition, Kaizo is willing to hear out differing opinions, but that doesn't mean he'll change his way of thinking. At his best he is alert and rational, and at his worst he is a judgmental and uncompromising 'lone-wolf', which occasionally leads him to take matters into his own hands. Thankfully, decades of experience serve him well when making "judgment calls" - giving him a distinguished, if unorthodox, record of service to the Jedi Order.
As for his beliefs in the Force, Kaizo is a proponent of the Unifying Force, adamant that the Force itself is neither good nor evil and that it does not take sides. In view of this, many of the Kel Dor's fellows find his vocation as a Jedi Shadow surprising, since they specialize in seeking out and destroying disturbances in the Force connected with the followers of the Dark Side and their artifacts. When asked, Kaizo will admit that he does indeed sense different 'sides' of the Force. However, he will make the comment that "there are far too many sides of the Force to account for, all of them interconnected in ways too subtle and complex to imagine." In the mind of Master Vel-Dun, action and intent are everything, and it is on this basis that individuals must be judged. As a believer in the Unifying Force and a Shadow, Kaizo possesses a propensity for meditation and foresight techniques, using visions to remain vigilant for any sign of the propagation of the (so-called) Dark Side or the return of the Sith.

Youngling Vel-Dun[/b][/u]
Birth - Age Eleven
Kaizo's childhood was a brief one. The child was born into the Vel-Dun
family, who's members had long been practitioners of the Force and
Baran Do Sages. While he was still in the womb, Kaizo's parents did
as was common across the galaxy: they would often talk to their unborn
son, hoping to instill familiarity with both the Kel Dor language and
Galactic Basic. Kaizo's birth was quite the celebrated event. Not only
was it his parent's first child, but the boy's potential in the Force was
easily felt, powerful indeed.
Kaizo spent just over three years with his family, a child of intense
awareness and tireless vigor. The boy spent very little time around others
his age, preferring the company of adults, especially the Sages of his
own family. Soon enough, the Vel-Dun started exploring the toddler's
awareness, teaching him how to find out for himself the answer to
some of his questions. They were of course rather mundane questions,
such as "What's for supper?" and the like. But by teaching him in this
way, Kaizo began to be shaped to have an investigative mind, using
both physical clues and the Vel-Dun's natural predisposition for
telepathic techniques to discover things for himself.
Just after Kaizo's fourth birthday, a Jedi who had come to know the
Vel-Dun from his many missions on Dorin stopped by. The Jedi was a
Consular and had been helping to resolve a sticky situation involving
planetary trade agreements. Finding himself in need of a rest, the
Consular took up the offer that the Vel-Dun had extended to him
many times. The Jedi would stay with them for two days, the first
getting some rest and talking with Kaizo, and the second discussing
the possibility of the boy's parents sending him to the Temple on
Coruscant to be trained as a Jedi. The oldest and wisest of the Vel-Dun
Sages admitted that they felt something was changing in the galaxy and
that Kaizo could attain much more in his life by becoming a Jedi than he
could with them on Dorin. And so, by that evening, Kaizo was sent with
the Jedi on his way back to Coruscant to embrace a greater destiny.
The young Kel Dor fared well as a Jedi Youngling, hanging onto his
instructors' every word and spending all of his time trying to apply
what he'd learned. Kaizo fit in well with the other children too, although
sometimes they didn't understand the things he said. As the years
progressed, so did the Youngling. By now, most of the other students
knew Kaizo, both by name and by appearance. This was because he
had started to surpass many of his fellow Jedi Younglings (both in
lightsaber training and in basic Force techniques), and also because
he had become known for his kindness to others, never bragging or
taking advantage, but always willing to help others. This in turn made
the Kel Dor Youngling more noticeable to the Jedi who were preparing
to take on a Padawan of their own. In point of fact, a Cerean Consular
by the name of Sen Ro-Ka took an interest in Kaizo and took the eleven
year old as his Padawan.
Padawan Vel-Dun[/b][/u]
Age Twelve - Age Twenty One
Kaizo admired his master and felt at ease around the older man, more
interested in absorbing knowledge than socializing with those his age, as
he had always been. Sen Ro-Ka was a kind man, wise and influencial, and
devoted to the light. It wouldn't be long until other Jedi Masters started
to think of them as father and son, rather than teacher and student.
The first thing Sen Ro-Ka taught his Padawan was how to gain greater
control over his innate telepathic abilities, using some of the same
techniques that his own master had used to instruct him. Since young
Kaizo was already a natural at sensing other's emotional states and
picking up the occasional stray thought, Sen Ro-Ka began Kaizo's training
by teaching him to use that information to predict an individual's next
words or movements. They spent the majority of the day for a month
straight doing this, and the Kel Dor's investigative mind was once again
awakened.
After the month was over, Sen Ro-Ka made arrangements to take Kaizo
to Ilum, where he would test his student's knowledge of lightsabers and
then turn him loose to find the perfect crystal for his very own saber. When
the arrangements for travel were complete, the Consular had walked up to
his Padawan and said simply: "Get yourself ready for a trip, we'll be leaving in
an hour." This too was a test of Kaizo's mental faculties, to see if he understood
what was going on and would prepare properly for their exodus to Ilum. The
Cerean was not disappointed. Ten minutes later, young Kaizo came back
around the corner with a pack full of supplies, a heavy cloak draped across
his arm, and a gleeful aura. Sen Ro-Ka couldn't help but laugh when Kaizo
confessed that he had been waiting for him to announce their trip to Ilum and
had procured the supplies the week before. So the two of them boarded their
shuttle and left for Ilum a little sooner than was planned.
Sen Ro-Ka made good use of the travel-time by teaching Kaizo an exercise that
drew upon the Force to control one's breathing, something that the Kel Dor
would successfully experiment with later on in life. Kaizo had little difficulty with
the breathing exercise since he had been taught similar things as a Youngling
and was also familiar with a few of the exercises that the Baran Do practiced.
The breathing exercise was an introduction to a Force Body technique that
Kaizo would learn later on when the two of them ventured to Ilum a second
time.
The breathing exercise proved very effective in slowing the amount of heat
that escaped Kaizo's body; that, coupled with the heavy duty cloak that he
had procured kept the Padawan quite warm and the two of them reached the
crystal caves without a great deal of difficulty. Sen Ro-Ka instructed his
student to allow his Force senses to guide him and then sent on his own to find
a crystal to call his own.
