Name: Fal Ket
Race: Kel Dor
Age: 45
Height: 5'10''
Weight: 162 lbs.
Appearance: In the Kel Dor species, skin tones range from a bright red to a dull peach. In Fal Ket's instance, his skin is an exceptionally bright crimson, particularly abnormal even for his race. His eyes, the typical black of the Kel Dor species in all other ways, are laced with silver irises about the center. However, this feature, along with his mouth, are hidden under protective lenses.
These goggles, as well as the breath mask that goes with them, are custom-made by Fal Ket. With their normal black body, there is also a lining of glistening, chrome-like metals inlaid into it. These metals serve to give it a sturdier build so that they won't fall apart as easily or need as much maintenance. It also serves a third, secret purpose, for into that metal, fragments of cortosis ore are woven. The cortosis weave prevents an enemy from slicing the breathing apparatus and goggles off of him, as such a thing would prove fatal.
The garb that Fal Ket wears is typical in all ways, save for one. The undershirt and loin cloth that make up his undergarments are a typical bleached white. His inner robe, resting just outside of the undergarments, are the typical formation as well. The cross-shaped pattern of the outer shirt across his chest bleeds hangs down slightly farther than normal, but in all other ways is typical of the Order's traditional garb. Over that, his outer robe is of simple construction. It is sleeveless and hangs down both sides, kept tight in to his body by the Obi sash that wraps around his waist.
The most atypical part of his garb is the cloak, which is the final layer that covers all the others up. It is constructed in such a manner as is fitting of the Jedi Order, but embroidered with decoration not found anywhere else in it. This is a tribute to the Baran Do Sages, written in fancy lettering about the edges of his garb. It reads, “To the sages whose minds see the future, to the masters who showed me the Force, To the fathers who gave me the Jedi, I offer thee my utmost gratitude.” The alphabet is an old dialect once used by the ancient Jedi Order, which few are now able to read.
Birth place: Dorin
Faction: Jedi
Rank: Master
Bio: Fal Ket never knew his parents. He was born to a very prominent family of aristocrats. Unfortunately, he was also the unwanted son of their sixteen-year-old daughter. For this reason, everyone involved was only half as happy as they normally would have been when the pregnancy was discovered. There were long debates in the household as to whether they would keep the child or not; the parents eventually forced their daughter to to give it up. Therefore, when Fal Ket was born, he never had the option of staying with his family. His fate had already dictated that he would go elsewhere with his life. Thankfully for him, the doctors noticed something strange upon his delivery: He had silver irises.
Now, you must understand something about the Kel Dor as a species. Although they have only been a part of the Galactic Republic for about 2,000 years at this point, they have a Force tradition that predates that union by millenia. These are the Baran Do Sages, masters of foresight who use their powers to predict natural disasters, sometimes on a planet-wide scale. The sages are well-respected members of Kel Dor society who have known about the Force and its true nature since long before the Jedi were there to tell them about it. It was they who discovered that among the Kel Dor species, children with silver irises tend to be especially sensitive to the Force.
The debate over where he was to go ended before it began. Due to his families prominence, they had ties to the Baran Do Sages, and it was decided that he would be given to them to help cement this largely political relationship. Immediately, Fal Ket began his training to become a Baran Do Sage. As a newborn baby, he was left to their care. As soon as he could speak in complete sentences, the masters were already instructing him in the mysteries of the Force and the practices of using it to see the future. However, in one such lesson, one of his instructors had a radical vision. In it, he saw the future of this boy, and he saw that his destiny was far greater than anything he could achieve as one of the Baran Do. Without any further deliberation, the sages sent him to Coruscant to be evaluated by the Jedi Council.
Only five years old at the time, Fal Ket showed an extraordinary level of competence with the power of Foresight when he came before the council. Although there were some rough edges that needed smoothing out in his mindset and personality, the force training he had already received thus far and the potential he showed for further training made him a desirable asset to the Order. Confident that they could mold his still-young mind to the teachings of the Jedi, the Council accepted him for training as a Youngling.
During the initial training, Fal Ket excelled at his training in Force Powers, especially concerning foresight and similar abilities concerning the senses. He showed less affinity with his lightsaber skills, having to put in a lot of hard work just to keep up with the other students in his class. As a direct result, he found himself having to work exceptionally hard on his combat and self-defense training while skating by easily in his theology, ethics and “Force-Use” lessons. Although it took a bit of elbow grease on his part, the youngling managed to present a passable presentation of the Shii-Cho form, as well as an understanding and command of the Force that was quite advanced for his age, by the time he was ten.
Although he had shown remarkable progress, there was one point of concern that the Jedi Masters saw in the young, developing mind. He still held a grasp to his past. In his training, he would often compare the lessons he was learning to what his 'Fathers' had told him in his youth. By this, he meant the Baran Do Sages who had initially taken care of him and, until he was five, raised him in their own Force tradition. Often, these comparisons showed an impressive insight, and for that the masters were well pleased. However, it wasn't the issue. That he was still remembering them so fondly meant that he still had some emotional bonds to them, bonds that would have to be cut if he was truly to become a Jedi.
Taking this task as his own personal challenge, a Nautolan Jedi Knight by the name of Huren Den'Thak took on the task of bringing Fal Ket fully into the Jedi Order. He started him on a rigorous training regimen, which ceased only for the time to complete a mission. It included the beginning of Soresu training, the advanced techniques of the Shii-Cho form and an even further understanding of the Force. It was under this master that Fal Ket first learned to apply telekinesis to combat via Force Strike. It was also where he decided years before becoming a Knight that he was in no way suited to the life of a Jedi Guardian.
This period of training was cut short when, during a mission to Barab IV, Huren got caught out in the daylight for a prolonged amount of time. Taking shelter inside a dark cave on the other side of the planet (For they had separated to get a better feel of the situation), Fal Ket was spared from the intense heat and radiation burns, but his master was not so lucky. Under the unforgiving sun, Huren Den'Thak lost his life trying to escape into the shade. For the first time in his life, Fal Ket was left on his own. He was only 15 at the time, and he didn't know how he was going to get off of the world. Still faced with stopping the out of control criminal activity there, Fal Ket wasn't sure what his priorities should have been; For all of his good qualities, it seemed that Huren still had some things to learn about being a teacher.
Now, when his fathers had taught him of the Force, they had stressed one lesson above all else. When you are unsure of what you should do, quiet your mind and attune yourself to the Force. Let it flow through you. Focus on its flow, but do not interrupt it. Rather, let it do as it will, and see where its powerful current takes you. In this way, visions of the future are revealed. In this way, your path will lay itself out before you. Thus he did, and so was his future revealed to him. Taking the new knowledge with him, Fal went out into the planet to take on the problems he had seen head-first.
Displaying knowledge there should have been no way for him to know, Fal intercepted a shipment of goods coming in the dead of night. Dispatching the light guard easily with a combination of basic Soresu and Force powers, he used the ship's com systems to send an encoded message to one specific point. In that area, a ship full of Republic soldiers happened to be floating along. They received the message and came down to the planet to support this young Jedi Padawan. Under the joint direction of Fal Ket and the Republic officer on board, the crew managed to blow a hole a mile wide in the operation and extract Fal safely.
Upon reporting back to the council, Fal Ket was both praised and scolded. It was a virtual miracle that he had managed to conjure up the detailed vision that he had, but at the same time, he hadn't used that knowledge as well as he should have. There had been numerous deaths on both sides of the conflict, which could have been avoided with the correct applications of the Force. He had also failed to recover Huren's body, which the council would now have to send someone out to do. Still, he had turned an enormous personal tragedy in the death of Huren into a prodigious personal victory in the success of the mission, and so the Jedi Council wasn't too hard on him. They kept him at the temple for a few more days until a new master could be found for him.
This new master came in the form of a human, Jorin Dennal, Jedi Master. Under his watch, Fal Ket was introduced to a training regimen that was far more suited to his talents. The more demanding Soresu lightsaber form was abandoned for the more balanced, less demanding Niman. This left him more time to pursue his greatest success, which was in the ways of the Force. Master Jorin introduced volumes of new material to the young Kel Dor, which he devoured almost greedily. When he wasn't out putting the way of the Jedi into practice, he was in the library studying the volumes and volumes of information Jorin had made available to him.
Among the bits of knowledge Fal Ket stumbled upon, there were two that appealed to him especially. The first was the discovery of the ancient Jedi alphabet, which he was eager to learn, for this would open new pathways of knowledge to him. The second was a manual about a technique which would allow him to endure incredible amounts of pain without having to stop and react, as most people would have to. Of course, the manual was far too advanced for Fal Ket to learn out of on his own, so he presented it to Master Jorin, who agreed to help him learn it.
Over three years of training, Fal Ket and Master Jorin worked together, increasing his powers in the Force. Finally, upon turning 18, Jorin declared that he was ready to learn the technique in the manual, which he called “Crucitorn.” They would continue training in this technique almost every day over the next four years, although even in all that time Fal Ket never fully mastered the ability. He could endure greater thresholds of pain than he originally could, but according to Jorin he still had a long way to go before he fully mastered the ability.
Over their seven years together as master and apprentice, Jorin and Fal formed a bond of strong friendship. In addition to the knowledge of the Force that Jorin passed on, he also taught Fal how to construct his own lightsaber, solidified his knowledge in the Jedi Code and helped him come to terms with the knowledge that he would have to let go of his fathers. He accomplished in three years what his predecessor Huren couldn't do in five. The pair spend the four years of their remaining training time completing Fal Ket's skills in the Niman form and working on the Crucitorn technique.
At twenty two years of age, Fal Ket was approached by a member of the Jedi Council. He was ready, according to both the council and his master Jorin, to face the Trial of Knighthood. He did so, knowing that this would be like nothing he had ever experienced before. It was on a bright and sunny day that Fal Ket entered the council chambers, although he would not be leaving them until late that night.
In the Jedi Trials, a prospective Knight is expected to display three things: 1) their mastery of Lightsabers, 2) their mastery of the Jedi Code and 3) their mastery of the Force.
In the first of these tests, the council inspected the simple lightsaber he had constructed (a far cry from the one he now uses) and had him spar with one of the masters. He didn't surprise anybody in the council with his total mastery of Shii-Cho, for that was expected of even a fledgling Jedi Knight. When he was tested on his skills in Niman, however, the council was surprised. They'd expected him to be better than he currently was. Still, the knowledge he displayed was passable, at least. It would be by far the worst of the results in Fal Ket's trials.
The second part of the test is by far the most varied of any of them. In some cases Fal had heard of, the masters even arranged for real-life situations to embody a moral conflict, forcing the test on prospective Knights before the official Trials of Knighthood took place. This was not the case for Fal Ket. Instead, the masters engaged in hours of talk, posing moral questions to him. Occasionally, they would simply seem to be conversing among themselves, waiting to see if he would challenge them when they said something wrong. Finally, they drilled him about his old fathers, testing him to see if he had truly let go of them. In this part of the test, Fal did very well, answering all of the master's questions sufficiently and even showing an impressive level of ingenuity with a few truly impressive and inventive answers. Most importantly, the masters felt confident that while he was still most grateful to his original fathers, he had let go of his emotional bonds and put them in his past.
This finally led to the third part of the trials, the test of the Force. The masters presented this test in two parts, first asking him about theoretical aspects of the Force. Then they asked him to demonstrate this theory by practicing those force powers in front of them. At one time, this trial saw Fal Ket levitating in the center of the room, with each of the council members revolving around him in irregular patterns while still seated in their chairs. This level of power was to be expected of a Knight, but what made it abnormal was the ease with which Fal Ket did it. Impressed by the display he was putting on at such a relatively early age, one of the masters asked him a question that struck Fal as odd. He asked Ket to display his most advanced Force Power for the council. Though the rest of the members seemed interested, Fal's answer that someone would have to hurt him to do that sent them wondering if it was really such a good idea. One master's realization that he was talking about the Crucitorn power saved him from having to endure the pain that went with it, instead explaining to the council the theory behind the power and the training he had done with it.
Although he had met with some initial trouble in his lightsaber test, the council deemed that on a whole, the trial had been a successful one. Fal Ket was declared a Jedi Knight. Although he couldn't deny feeling proud of the accomplishment, he used his Jedi training to create an empty state of mind and suppress it to react with modesty and humility. That he had not gone into celebration at his success and instead reacted in such a way was very telling to the masters of the council, who agreed that they could expect great things from this now fully-fledged Jedi.
At first, Fal Ket didn't take on a padawan learner. Instead, he spent several months in meditation, constructing a new lightsaber for himself and focusing on his future within the order. The new lightsaber he constructed was fairly more advanced than the one he had presented to the Jedi Council, complete with a dual-phase variance. It was the first lightsaber he used more than one metal in constructing, using steel for the outer shell and copper for the inner wiring. Through his focus on the future, he also re-affirmed the conviction that he had made all those years ago. Fal Ket, Jedi Knight, would be following the path of the Jedi Consular.
Fal Ket came out of this period of isolation feeling refreshed and renewed. He replaced the robes of a Padawan with those of a Knight for the first time in his life. He set out into the temple on Coruscant, insisting on selecting a Padawan from the younglings there before taking on any new missions for the Council. He felt that this was the path laid out before him, for in his meditations, he had received another vision that told him so. It had also shown the kind of knight that apprentice would become, although it didn't show him what he looked like or even if he was a 'he' at all. However, it had made him confident that he was capable of teaching another the way that Jorin had taught him. Since he was also in possession of two lightsabers, he was truly ready to take on an apprentice.
At this point, the reader may be a little confused. Why would it matter whether or not Fal Ket had two lightsabers in order to take an apprentice? The answer to this question is a simple one. When a Youngling becomes a Padawan, they give their training lightsaber back to the Jedi Temple. However, without training in the mechanics of a lightsaber, they are unable to build their own. Traditionally, it is the youngling's master that provides them with their first lightsaber, constructing another one for themselves to replace it. Then, when the padawan makes their own lightsaber, they give the original weapon back to their instructor. This is why it is important for a Knight to construct a second lightaber before taking an apprentice.
When Fal Ket decided on an apprentice, he looked for a few key things. One, he didn't want to teach a Padawan that looked to be on the path of a Jedi Guardian. His own deficiency with lightsaber skills would hurt the young apprentice's training. Two, he didn't want a padawan that would never be suited to the life of a Jedi Knight. It was a kindness to allow those sorts to become servants in other ways after the age of 13. Finally, he found exactly the kind of youngling he was looking for, an eleven-year-old Human girl named Brenna. Handing her his old lightsaber for fear that she wouldn't be able to handle the dual-phase variance on his new one, he instructed her to give her old training saber back and follow him. Thus the apprenticeship of Fal Ket's first padawan learner began.
Despite taking an apprentice of his own, Fal didn't stop his own training in the least. He often consulted Master Jorin for advice on how to give certain lessons to Brenna. The two also continued working together on the Crucitorn technique, helping Fal Ket to get ever close and closer to mastering it. He did a lot of meditation and self-training in the few moments that he was neither with Jorin nor his padawan. Indeed, the dedicated Jedi Knight would often participate in all three events at once. He would watch over Brenna's training in the Force with an Empty Mind, allowing him to enter a state of meditative self-training even as he watched her. Simultaneously, Jorin would be watching him, offering advice in his training, but letting him handle Brenna's advancement exclusively.
Of course, by this time, Jorin and Brenna had also met one another. The three generations of Jedi strengthened their bonds of friendship to one another in these joint training sessions, as well as their powers in the Force. Although he did notice that Brenna was gradually separating herself farther and farther from the image Fal had seen in his vision, he didn't quite care. He was happy living like this. Unfortunately, these same bonds of friendship were what would lead to the tragic downfall of the 'family.'
Brenna had been training under Fal Ket for nine years now. She was twenty, and had become a stunningly beautiful woman, by human standards. She had also become a powerful Jedi Knight. Unfortunately, she had also begun to see Master Jorin, now in his late forties, as more than just a mentor. At first Fal Ket missed the growing mutual attraction between the two. When he realized what was going on, it was two late. The two had already begun an affair. Knowing that this was forbidden within the Jedi Order, the Kel Dor was completely torn in two. On the one hand, there was his loyalty to the Order. On the other, there were the two people closest to him. Even in his meditations, he couldn't see what would become of it all, for that future was in far too much motion to be discovered.
Eventually, Fal Ket decided to confront Jorin about it himself. He began by revealing that he knew what Brenna and he were doing, and that he knew that they would be stripped of their status and expelled from the Order if it were discovered. In reply, Jorin only echoed the words he had taught Fal Ket in his padawan training, words that Fal himself had passed on to Brenna. “You must always do as you feel is right. Do not let your emotions hide the path of rightness from you.” When they departed, both Jorin and Fal knew what had to be done.
And so it was that Fal Ket reported the affair to the Jedi Council. What happened next was exactly as he had predicted. The two were brought before the Council to answer for what they had done. Both had become powerful force users, and both had broken the Jedi Code. For that, they were both forced to turn in their lightsabers and be Jedi no more. What had now been done could never be undone, and the bonds between Fal Ket and his former friends were cut off completely.
Guilt consumed him. He spent almost a full year in quiet meditation, wondering just where he had gone wrong. He arrived at one very real conclusion. He shouldn't have tried to train himself and his student at the same time. He shouldn't have asked Jorin to help him with the training. He should have taken the role of master seriously and acted like a master to Brenna rather than a friend, acted like a student to Jorin rather than a friend. If not for himself acting as a bridge between the two, they both could still be within the Order, companions willing to stand side by side with him.
Fal was now 31 years old. He didn't take on another apprentice at once, but instead went about the business of the Jedi Order as a lone agent, occasionally acting as a part of larger task squads of Jedi Knights. At the same time, he began looking for new things to teach himself, for he had finally achieved a fair level of mastery over the Crucitorn technique toward the end of Brenna's membership in the order. He would find that knowledge, as he had before, in the library of the Jedi Temple. This manual on telekinetics spoke of an advanced technique that relied heavily on teleinesis. He began teaching himself from the manual, and within just a few months had a basic understanding of the Force Wave technique. He would continue his self training in that technique over the next several years.
At 32 years of age, Fal Ket took on his second apprentice. This time, he chose from the ranks of the younglings a Bothan boy who, according to Fal Ket's senses, was strong with the Force. If he could learn to harness that power properly, he would make an adept Jedi Knight. Why he was still there, Fal Ket didn't quite know, but he wasn't about to let the 13-year-old be shoved off into some supporting role. With this apprenticeship, he took the same approach as he had initially taken with Brenna. He gave the old lightsaber to the youngling, instructing him to return his training saber and follow him. So began the training of his second apprentice, Sorin Fav'yet.
This time, he kept a good deal more distance between himself and Sorin. Although he definitely displayed more talent with a lightsaber than Fal did, he also showed an equivalent decrease in his Force capabilities. Thinking that he would make an excellent Jedi Sentinel one day, Fal Ket gave him a training regimen that matched that potential. It wasn't long before Sorin surpassed him in the ways of Soresu, and he even started some Makashi training to go with it. For this, the only training Fal Ket could offer was theoretical, for he hadn't had the training to put those forms into practice himself.
Over nine years of training and missions, Sorin became ready to be a Jedi Knight. He had learned much of the ways of the Jedi and the Force from the Kel Dor, although Fal had been cautious about getting too close to Sorin at first. This distance seemed to become less and less over the years until, in the end, he and Sorin, too, became close friends. However, in a far different way than it had last time, tragedy would strike at the two friends before Sorin ever had the chance to face the trials.
When Brenna had been exiled from the order, she had become enraged. She blamed Fal Ket for her disgrace, and in her brooding and bitterness had fallen to the Dark Side. For the past decade, she had been training herself in the dark ways, obsessed with obtaining revenge against the one she saw as her oppressor. As he and Sorin were returning from a mission on the outer rim, she ambushed them, attacking quickly enough that Fal had little time to react. Calling upon his skills with Niman, he fought back against her, but in her Darkness, Brenna's way had been quicker and easier. She was now more powerful than Fal Ket. It did't take long for Brenna to cut Fal Ket's lightsaber in half, forcing him to use his older one, and as the Knight was forced to lose ground against this dark foe, it seemed as if his days had come to an end.
That was when Sorin arrived. Using his own impressive lightsaber skills, he battled with Brenna, his own impressive mastery of Makashi setting her back on her heels. Still, even this would prove to be not quite enough to defeat her. The end of the battle came when master and apprentice worked together, Sorin taking the front and Fal Ket supporting him from the rear with his Force Powers. Now, while it may have been true that Brenna now surpassed Fal Ket in skill with a lightsaber, she was not nearly a match for his force powers. Forced to fight on two fronts, one of which was not always visible to her, she was quickly defeated and taken prisoner. However, this would not last; She killed herself before she could stand trial. At the resolution of that conflict, Fal Ket realized that it was the image of his current apprentice that he had seen so many years ago. The Force, it seemed, had guided him down the right path in the end.
Occasionally, when a Padawan displays merits of particular prowess, the council will raise their rank to that of Jedi Knight without sending them to the trials. Because of his impressive display in the fight against a powerful Dark Jedi, the council saw fit to raise Sorin to the rank of Jedi Knight in such a way. Sorin had just turned 22 at the time, and his mentor was 41. As Sorin was now a Jedi Knight, Fal Ket was raised to the rank of Jedi Master, for the council could see that he was more than ready for the role.
The two would part ways there, for a while, and Fal Ket would embark on a quest to find lost Jedi secrets, for he had already consumed his fill from the library on Coruscant. This quest would last for three years, over which he would make dozens and dozens of trips to various different planets. On one of those trips, he came to the world of Ossus, which had once been a center of enlightenment and learning in the Jedi Order. At first, Fal Ket searched the planet for some traces of that knowledge that had been left behind. However, destiny was reserving it for another purpose. In another few thousand years, a Jedi Master named Luke Skywalker would visit that planet. There, he would find the ruined library of Ossus, as well as an ancient Jedi Master who guarded a vast supply of ancient lightsabers. When he arrived, those treasures still needed to be there waiting for him. Because of this, destiny steered him away from those treasures.
However, by this time, Fal Ket had become an adept servant of the Light, having even abandoned his personal ties in order to see the right thing done. Because of this, the Force wasn't going to let him leave empty handed, either. It led his search to a place where the Force flowed strongly, a cave where lightsaber crystals grew in abundance. There, Fal Ket received yet another vision. This time, it was a long-dead Jedi Master who appeared to him. It wasn't like the visions he'd had before, for now it was not a vision at all that stood before him. It was the Force Ghost of a powerful Jedi Master, Odan-Urr, who now stood before Fal Ket.
As the old master and the young master conversed, it became clear that the Force had intended their meeting. Because of this fact, Odan-Urr offered to teach Fal Ket a technique he had not been able to get a hold of previously. The Force Light technique, an advanced attack that could weaken a Dark Siders force powers and purify Dark Side locations, was a strong weapon that could be used against the Dark Jedi. Eager to learn this new technique, he began his training under Odan-Urr at once.
They trained for the better part of two months secluded in that cave. At the end of that training, Fal Ket had a fair understanding of that power. As long as he continued to practice it, Odan-Urr assured him, he would achieve mastery over it before long. Thanking the old master for teaching him the technique, Fal Ket now had only to look on as Odan-Urr once again resumed his sleep in the Force, which he had earned through his life of service to the Light.
With his training done, Fal Ket left Ossus, but not before harvesting a good deal of crystals from that cave. With them, he would construct his third Lightsaber. It is this beautiful, masterfully constructed weapon that Fal carries to this day. Now equipped with a new, powerful Force technique and his masterfully crafted weapon, Fal Ket even now returns to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, eager to take on another apprentice and pass on what he knows.
Lightsaber: The lightsaber is a simple-looking, but complexly crafted thing. At its core, there is the basic matrix that harnesses power to the power cell into a beam. This inner wiring is made out of copper, a super-conductive metal that allows for a slightly faster ignition time than normal. It is contained in a small tube, in which the energy is free to flow about without outside interference. Between the containment tube and the outer shell, four lead beams provide support, which is necessary considering its pressure-release grip. The intent of the mechanism is to make the lightsaber deactivate if its user lets go of it without having to press down on the ignition plate (which in this lightsaber is internal) again.
On the outside, the lightsaber is very decorative, similar in its presentation to the Kel Dor himself. Its main body is composed of electrum. This is coated by a thin layer of chrome plating, giving the saber both the majestic look of Electrum and a brilliant shine in the sunlight. In addition to this, there are tiny grooves along the sides of the handle, which outline the plates that he used to construct the pressure-release grip. That would have been decorative by itself, but Fal Ket went a step further. He beautified the weapon with lettering, which was first carved into the metal and then brushed over with a gold-colored paint. There are five lines of it, each of which reads a different part of the old Jedi adage concerning lightsabers: "The crystal is the heart of the blade. The heart is the crystal of the Jedi. The Jedi is the crystal of the Force. The Force is the blade of the heart. All are intertwined: the crystal, the blade, the Jedi." More text found around the butt of the hilt in a circular formation finishes the phrase: “You are one.”

Kneeling in the silence of his solitude, Jedi Master Fal Ket meditated on his recent encounter. What he had seen was nothing short of a miracle, a Jedi Master who had been dead for hundreds of years. His teachings had redefined the Jedi Order, establishing its code in concrete settings. It was only because of him that the Jedi Order existed as it did today. He wouldn't be surprised if he continued to be known as the most influential master of the Jedi Order for several millennia. So why had he chosen to present himself to Fal Ket? It was a mystery he would never solve on his own.
The meditation did have another affect, though. Rarely were such times strictly meant purely for contemplation. He'd gotten in the habit of letting his senses roam free, doing as they wished to do and taking him along in their wake. This was one of those instances. The first sign that something was happening was the retreat from the world. His awareness of the space around him dwindled, then died completely. Swept away in the current of the Force, he soon found himself far removed from everything he had known to be there just a few moments before.
What he saw now, he payed close attention to. There were two figures here, both with lightsabers in hand. They clashed together, bringing their blades into hard impacts. As they bounced off of each other, their users rerouted them to clash with each other once more. It was all happening so fast, Fal wouldn't have been able to see it were he not trained for just that sort of thing all his life. They two figures moved about one another, striking and parrying and dodging until neither one of them could move.
Now, this was a vision he had seen many times before. In this part of the vision, the figure on the right struck the figure on the left down with one aggressive sweep. Fal had managed to determine that the one being stricken down was him, but he didn't know quite who the one on the right was. He figured this was a warning from the Force, warning him against an oncoming battle that he had no way to win. He had come to expect that ending to the vision, and so had been preparing himself to die for the last few weeks he'd had the visions. Well, that evaluation is inaccurate; he was actually preparing himself to join with the Force.
That's why what happened next in this vision surprised him so much. The figure on the right struck out, as expected, but this time the figure on the left moved as well. A brilliant light shone fourth, illuminating the silhouettes clearly. The one on the left, as he'd thought, was himself. However, the one on the right was wearing a dark robe. With face concealed and the size of the garment distorting the body size, he had no way of telling even what species it was. One thing was clear, though. As the light died and the figures once again became shadowy silhouettes, the figure on the right was left weakened on the floor.
What followed truly disturbed Fal. His figurine stepped over to the weakened, defenseless figure on the right. It struck down at him, killing him in his spot. Slowly, the figure came closer and closer. He was no longer wearing his Jedi robes. Instead, a dark cloak covered his body, and the lightsaber he held in his hand had changed from yellow to red. As he came closer and closer, he grew ever bigger and bigger, and when he finally got near to Fal he was large enough that it seemed he would engulf everything the Kel Dor had become.
He awoke from his meditation with a gasp. What was this changed vision all about? The brilliant light he could figure out fairly easily. Was his future to be changed by that new power? Perhaps this was a warning against the lure of the Dark Side, then. He had to remember that no matter what, he could never kill a defenseless prisoner. To do so would be to become the very enemy he fought so hard to defeat. That's what the Force was trying to tell him, right? But he already knew that! The Force wouldn't go to all that trouble just to tell him something he already knew. There had to be more to this vision, something he hadn't yet discovered. Perhaps the conditions for realizing the truth hadn't yet entered his life? If that was the case, he would just have to wait and see. The will of the Force was no frivolous thing. It would guide him down the right path. All he had to do was give it time.
