The dark eyes were staring into hers while he watched her cautious actions. It wasn't hard to realize that, whatever sh was doing, she was as uncertain about it as he was. He wanted to cast aside this foolishness, yet the logical choice for him was not happening. His brows furrowed more as the confusion about the realization hit him.
He didn't trust her smile. He didn't trust the curl of her fingers into his robes. He didn't trust the feel of her hair in his fingers. That all might sound very odd to someone else...but they didn't understand him. He knew what this all should be causing in him. The irate persona that should be rearing up right now. Yet...that was everything but what he was feeling at the moment. He didn't have a word to classify it. The normal terms for such things, such emotions, had never really been in his vocabulary, except perhaps as some derogatory thing for him to mock another with.
She drew closer and he wasn't holding that glare at her any longer. His eyes closed, trying to will his mental barriers into place along with the closing of those lids. His head tilted slightly and he missed her wavering, timid reach for his mask. He felt her hand touch the side of his face, however, coupled with the two simple words she spoke.
Pheremones or not, that brought him to pause. He stiffened. Some views were hardwired even deeper than chemical means could erase. After a long, lingering moment, he finally nodded slightly, his face titled slightly away from hers.
"You may, though I do not understand why you may wish to."

((ignoring Ayer for a minute...*grumble* there was a purpose to this thread so we're continuing it.))
Aunna was more than aware of the confusion surrounding Vex. It was strong enough for even her, untrained as she was, to feel washing against her. He was conflicted, he knew he would normally be reacting one way, yet he was not and it seemed this confused the poor former jedi to no end. Still Aunna could feel that internal clock ticking down to the moment when he would shut himself off again and her moment would be lost…but patience was a virtue, and she would (at this moment anyway) attempt to be virtuous. She watched his eyes close, felt him struggle against himself again and she wished he wouldn’t. She wanted to tell him to just let go and trust her, to let her show him how she felt about him…it almost hurt her to see him struggle against himself, against emotions he shouldn’t be trying so hard to stifle. With a silent sigh, Aunna attempted to let go and just allow whatever was going to happen to happen.
Trust the force, let it guide you…that was one thing he’d been trying to tell her since he’d found out she was force sensitive wasn’t it? If it worked for him, if it had kept them both alive thus far, she’d just have to try and let go and not force things (no puns intended). He stiffened at her question, and she mentally and emotionally recoiled. If she had hurt him or angered him, she wasn’t entirely certain, but either way she didn’t want him upset…at least, not because of something stupid that she’d said. Vex, however, did nothing in return. He was almost perfectly still for the longest time as she nearly held her breath, then something she didn’t expect happened.
He nodded his acceptance.
She thought on his words for a moment...there was one very good reason why, but she wasn't about to explain aloud. Instead, she gently removed the mask from his face with both hands, bringing it to settle lightly against his chest with one, while her right hand cautiously snaked itself behind his head. Aunna remained like that for a moment, testing the ground as her fingers worked their way carefully into his mane of black hair. It was odd how even just standing there like this made her skin tingle. With one gentle urging pull against his neck, she sought to bring him the 5 inch distance between them.
Hopefully he would bend near enough. The blue eyed woman knew better than to press things like this with Vex, so she would only try this silent request for him to move toward her once. Despite this, resolve, her mind had other ideas.
--Please...come closer...--
Even as soon as she thought it Aunna held her breath. She hadn't meant to send that thought to him, but she knew it had slipped out anyway. Tentatively she watched him for some kind of reaction, that would be what she based her next move on. Again that song drifted into her mind and she almost relaxed...almost. For a moment longer she wavered, uncertain and cautious, a hairs breadth away from moving.
--Vex, please...--
He seemed to, at least in part, relent to her, coming almost face to face. That was enough for Aunna. With only a slight stretching of her neck, she cautiously pressed her lips to his, her eyes closing for a moment as she attempted to remember the feeling. This was likely the one and only chance she would ever get to know it. After only a moment, she slowly pulled away. Her eyes remained closed as she felt herself blushing and turned her face away from him slightly. Only then did she open her eyes once more.
Why? Perhaps it was because she was afraid. Aunna wasn't entirely certain she wanted to know the expression on his face after what she'd just done, but she wasn't going to apologize for it. Instead of attempting any kind of defense, mental, emotional, or physical, from what might very well have made him very angry, Aunna dropped all pretenses and just settled herself on quiet acceptance of whatever he might think or say. She wasn't sorry for what she'd done, so she wasn't going to recoil away from him like some beaten hound that thought it had done wrong.
Suddenly, the mechanical voice of Ayer burst through her thoughts. She almost jumped, filled, suddenly, with the urge to move away as if caught by an over protective parent. Despite the sudden urge to move away, Aunna remained where she was. It was only Ayer, after all, and she didn’t WANT to be away from Vex. He, however, would likely be wanting his space soon, but he could move away at any time…she certainly didn’t have a strong hold on him. The woman didn’t turn her blue eyes away from the dark colored fabric of the robes that covered Vex’s chest, even as she replied.
Ayer...you know almost as much as I do about what “the plan” is: play "keep away." Right now we are on a Sith battle cruiser and I couldn't have you being caught in case we needed you so I was keeping YOU away from nosy, prying, sith soldier eyes...as it was my brother could be in very hot water if that zeltron talks because we were here at all. I don't know where we're going yet, and now you know what I know...
For a moment she felt the need to rest her head against the man she was standing so close to, but she stifled the urge and instead moved back a step, wrapping her arms around herself and feeling foolish.
-- I’m sorry Vex, I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable by my actions…I suppose it was foolish of me to have…--
She allowed the thought to trail away as she focused, instead, on something else…anything other than her own thoughts which were a turmoil of should haves and might haves over what she’d just done. Aunna allowed herself a small smile…

Not since his near death had Vex ever been so unprepared. At least, with that strike, he knew the action, the method to defend. He simply hadn't been able move fast enough...had been caught flatfooted.
Compared to the current situation, however, he may as well have had advanced warning.
He felt the pressure of her touch drawing him down and despite everything of his core telling him not to, he allowed it. His head dipped to allow the pallid, leonine features to close with her own. He wasn't prepared for what was next as his mouth pressed against her own.
Black eyes closed, stunned at the sensation of warmth and softness from those lips. The Dark Jedi...master of his emotions, of his mind and as cold and self-contained as carbonite, was shattered. In that moment, those durasteel walls around his mind dropped, vaporized into nothing and leaving Vex naked and vulnerable.
Emotions never felt, never known, indescribable, overwhelmed him as he returned that brief kiss. A part long dead to him seemed to resurrect, trying to draw itself up from the murk of the grave it had been buried in long ago. His hands started to rised, closing around her waist gently to draw her closer.
Then Vex slammed his foot down mentally as the warnings in the Force finally made sense. He ground that buried being back down into the parched earth of his soul and revived those mental wards with a vengeance. Even as she pulled back slightly. His fingers tensed and he forcibly pushed her away as her thoughts reached out to him. His response was a verbal snarl echoed with a cerebral resonance that bordered on feral.
"Pheremones. It was foolish, but not of you, because you were simply too ignorant and blind to know better. I, however, am not. If I see the Zeltron again, I will paint her across the bulkhead. As for you, droid." Those dark, seemingly reflectionless pits turned to balefully glare at Ayer, "Learn your place before I place you in the airlock."
He moved to the door, covering his face with that rebreather again before he slammed his fist against the door controls and swept through the opening portal in a flurry of black. The door whisked closed again, leaving fugitive and robot alone, save for the rage that poured from him with all the gravity and lethality of a black hole.

Even as he pushed her away from him, rejected her (or perhaps simply her actions), Aunna didn’t fight it. At first his hands had been gentle and ready to draw her closer to himself, but they had swiftly turned harsh, his fingers biting into her sides, the thrust backward causing her to stumble slightly. It wasn’t difficult to right herself, taking another step away to balance and stop the motion he had started. A soft sigh escaped her as he reinforced his displeasure with a nearly soul crippling snarl that echoed physically and mentally. She accepted it quietly, gazing at him steadily and unmovingly. When she’d first met him she might have returned the anger in kind, a few days ago she might have flinched and shied away, now…all she did was allow his vehement emotions to crash over and around her, even through her. There was little point in returning that anger, it would only make matters worse, and she wouldn’t shy away from him…she wasn’t sorry for what she’d done. Well, she WAS, but perhaps not for the reasons most would think. All she could do was accept his feelings for what they were. Aunna sighed again as he spoke and she shook her head. No, she was the foolish one. She should have known better than to drink anything in the first place, and the pheremones…she would have stood a better chance against them if she’d not already been influenced by the liquor. As he threatened the droid, Aunna finally moved, taking one solid step into the path between Vex and Ayer. You’ll do no such thing to him. Take your anger out on me and not the droid, he’s done nothing to wrong you, I have. Place your anger upon those who deserve it.If he heard her or not it didn’t matter, within moments he was gone. She stood silently for a while, her back to Ayer, her face first turned in the direction of the door Vex and gone through before swiveling back to gaze out of the window at the stars beyond. Something had changed in Vex when she’d kissed him, she’d felt it. He’d opened up, his emotions had shown through, he was different for but a fraction of a moment…and then it had vanished. It was the light she’d seen in him before, it had been a part of that warmth she’d felt from him on more than one occasion…it had almost been a different person….almost. Vex, for the briefest of moments, hadn’t been the dismal grey and black and white that he so often surrounded himself with…those monochromatic shades had melted into colors, bright and vivid, there had been life there, something even she couldn’t fully describe…she’d felt it and for one moment she knew he had as well. He’d killed it again, however, whatever part of him that was…whatever phoenix had risen from its ashes, he’d snuffed it out again plunging himself into the black abyss he so loved and clung to. As she gazed out at the stars, she thought that they reminded her of him…so cold and dark, yet…there was SO much life, so many opportunities, so many possibilities….they were small ones, from a distance, but the longer you traveled, the closer you got to one or the other of them, and the easier it was to see the light of them, and the life that surrounded them. Still, as much as she tried not to let it bother her, his reaction had torn into her…leaving an injury not easily mended. Aunna gazed at her own reflection in the window and sighed, lowering her head. What a fool I am…The spoken thought resounded solidly in her mind. Ayer wasn’t sure which response stung more. He realized his mistake of interrupting the two of them seconds after doing so and he instantly recoiled and crouched low. There had been many times where Ayer had calculated his dismemberment as a possible outcome in past confrontations with Vex, but this threat was different. This threat was straight from the heart…or whatever dank, hellish pit he had as a substitute, and for the first time Ayer feared that this was most definitely the day when he would kiss the floor in pieces.
However, that outcome was simple and calculated. He had seriously angered Vex and now he was going to pay the price. Aunna’s on the other hand seemed to strike him a little harder. Her response wasn’t just a possibly empty threat; it was a statement of sheer, irrefutable logic and disappointment. His part was to say discreet and well hidden. He failed this, and this fact was put into light. For a droid, failure is the ultimate buzz kill.
Ayer began to apologize when something happened he didn’t expect: he was defended. Part of him was grateful for the interjection, but another was fearful for himself and Aunna. Vex may be on “their team”, but he seemed anything but stable.... or perhaps it was just that he was exceedingly stable, granted not for the most pleasant of things. Whatever the case, he found himself hunkering down instinctually (programmually?), raising his wings slightly exposing his feather array.
This is it. This is where he turns around, eyes aflame, and turns me into scrap metal. Yep, goodbye cruel galaxy.
Vex didn’t turn around though. In fact, he did the opposite: he stormed through the door without a word or glance. Aye flopped his wings to the couch with an audible sigh of relief. But even that was short-lived as he realized the gravity of situation. When he had interrupted them, there had been something going on that wasn’t fear, wasn’t mind control, and certainly wasn’t “furthering their goals”.
Awww...crap. As Aunna ran out after him, Ayer took wing and dived out the door just before it closed. This is getting more and more convoluted as we go. I only hope we don’t go much farther…[/i]
