Name: Coran Black
Race: Human
Age: 22
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 156 lbs
Appearance: (There's a picture in the signature)
Coran, standing at an average height for most humans, stands with a lanky, unkempt posture, showing his underlevel upbringing. His medium brown hair reaches down to his dull blue eyes on a pale face. His clothing consists mostly of a heavy green jacket and grey pants. Then, his belt is a black leather belt with a lightsaber and a blaster holster, because as he says, "sometimes I really don't want to smell the enemy."
Birth place: Coruscant
Faction: Jedi Order
Rank: Jedi Knight
Bio:
Coran's life would have been horrible, had he not had the drive to succeed. His father was Harlik Black, a Tibanna gas farmer and who spent most of his time off planet, and never saw Coran. His biological mother was a force sensitive surrogate who Harlik hired to bear him a child. Harlik intended to bring Coran along with him to his jobs and be able to see him more. Unfortunately, his boss wasn't too fond of hiring day care to watch a baby, so Harlik left him on Coruscant with a childhood friend. The woman, Korina Witnock, was somewhat of a mother and Jedi Master to Coran for all of his training.
For a few years, Coran was mostly living with Korina. When Korina would get a mission, Coran would go into a care facility that Korina would pay for. For the most part, Korina was either home or able to take Coran with her on missions. Even as young as he was, Coran was fascinated with the cockpit. Korina would teach him words relevant to the starship. Some spacer still argues with Korina that Coran's first word was hyperdrive.
As time went on, and Korina was sent on more missions, Coran spent more time in the cockpit. Fortunately, Harlik was able to time most of his jobs so that Coran spent a lot of time on the planet instead of in a starship. Coran was dissapointed, but Harlik felt it would be better for him to have a natural life than a spacer's life. Harlik didn't want Coran to make the same mistake Harlik's brother did.
Harlik was in a family of two, and had an older brother, Jacyne. Jacyne was the type of person who wanted adventure. The parents were always finding him following around spacers and talking to random people in restaurants. As soon as he was old enough, Jacyne learned to fly, hired himself on a cargo transport and took off in the galaxy. The family never heard from him again, and Harlik assumed he was dead. Since then, Harlik had an aversion to pilots and spacers. He thought them to be more scum than on-planet criminals.
Although Harlik tried to see Coran a lot, Korina still had to watch Coran for the majority of his young life. For Coran's sake, it was a good thing, being left in the care of a Jedi. One day, Korina's dwarf wrix was barking for seemingly no reason and seemed very angry. Korina couldn't calm it down, so she left Coran in his pen and started to call a vet. Coran sat in his pen staring at the animal until they made eye contact. After a few moments of Coran staring at the animal, the wrix calmed down and let Coran get close to it, something the animal never did with Korina.
Promptly, and without Harlik's consent, Korina took Coran to the Jedi Temple to be tested. He was in fact force sensitive, but could not track down his mother. Unfortunately, the Jedi would require Harlik's consent to have Coran put into Jedi training. Korina thought this would be easy.
Harlik's feelings towards pilots held true for Jedi. He thought they were irresponsible about the galactic capital. The Jedi spent all their time on backwater planets, but never ventured into the underlevels of Coruscant, where Harlik lived. Harlik was hard to convince. But, after a while Harlik gave in. He knew Coran would enjoy himself as a Jedi, and he would probably turn out better than if he wouldn't.
Harlik signed off on the papers when Coran was just three. For the next seven years, Coran spent all his time in training. He excelled in his concentration and book studies, but his lightsaber skill was average at best. Coran wanted to be a lightsaber slinging, gung-ho weapons master that could utilize anything he could see. Coran's fascination with space and piloting also put him in some of the flight simulators for the starfighters used by the Jedi. A few of the Ace pilots expressed interest in Coran as a padawan, but Korina had already declared she would train him.
During the tournaments, Coran was able to hold his own against most lightsaber duelists, but lost quite a few battles due to his lack of skill with the lightsaber. He said that the lightsaber was too light, which they all were for him. Fortunately, Coran already had a master waiting for him, so he wasn't the kid picked last on the ball team.
While most padawans his age were only useful in combat, Coran's special empathetic ability and skill with understanding most sentient beings allowed him to talk diplomatically and maturely with important figures that Korina had to talk to.
The most notable use of Coran's skill was on Thyferra, where Korina was sent to handle a problem of Killiks invading a small town near a major Bacta outpost. Since there was no contact with that particular clan of Killiks and they were considered to be animal, Korina and Coran were sent to solve the problem by any means necessary.
Coran adapted himself to the Killik way and made himself look harmless to one of the Killik scouts. He was able to get the Killiks to migrate to a different area painlessly by making them feel the pain that the city-dwellers had to feel when the Killiks invaded their city. Coran also apologized for the city's encroaching on their territory. This feat earned him a very strong recognition from the council master himself.
Although, Korina also had to balance Coran's non-violent approaches with constant lightsaber duels. Korina would sometimes suprise Coran by attacking him out of nowhere with a training saber. Eventually, Korina taught Coran to master Shii-Cho and use it well. Coran then began to focus on Form 2, Makashi and Form 3, Soresu, with a lightsaber given to him by Korina.
When Coran developed more in his skill as a Jedi, his master was sent on more dangerous missions. They were sent after assassins, smugglers, and drug lords. To Coran, this was fun, because it meant he got to see more fighting. Coran was still weak in his lightsaber combat, but his skill in the force allowed him to push, move, and throw enemies and objects to win the fight.
His language skills were impeccable. By the age of fourteen he was competent in most galactic languages. Although still learning, he was able to keep conversations with most beings. Impressed by this, the jedi council sent the pair on diplomatic missions for the Republic.
His test of courage came early, around the age of fifteen. Korina was trapped unconscious in the cave of a large beast that was terrorising a village on Kashyyyk. Not knowing his way around the area, he hired a human guide to help him down to the area since no Wookie would venture into the area. When they arrived at the cave, they were attacked by the beast. The guard was instantly killed by the very foul stench that the beast put off. Coran discovered that the beast excreted an odor that would knock a wookie unconscious, and kill most humans. So, Coran retreated into the woods for fear of dying of smell.
The beast patrolled the area for a while, and Coran was eventually able to drag the guide's body off. Coran took his rifle, climbed a tree and shot the beast in the head, calling upon the force to help guide his shot. After the smell went away, Coran was able to rescue Korina and finish the mission at the same time. Coran was given an honorary ryyk blade as a sign of thanks for killing the beast.
For the next few years, Coran's life was uneventful. He would complete missions, train, and fly around the galaxy with his master. He visited his father on Kessel once. He had aged tremendously and was already feeling the effects of being a miner all his life. Harlik revealed that he wanted to end his work on Kessel if he had somewhere to live. In an action that would get her in a lot of trouble with the council, Korina used a mind trick to get the owner of the mine to promote Harlik to a foreman and give him a better life.
Soon, Coran's trial of the flesh came in the worst way possible. Coran's mother was revealed to be a slave on Nal Hutta, and was bought by a few Republic soldiers who had their way with her before dumping her into space. He learned that they were not court marshalled, but instead suspended for a few weeks and then put back on duty. Coran took this information in stride and eventually got over it, realizing that he viewed Korina as a more of a mother than her anyway.
When Coran was seventeen, he was taken to Vjun and dropped off in a random location for a random test. Korina had set up a few droids in the area that Coran was to defend himself against and then use the force to find his way back to Korina. Coran defeated the droids easily. Unfortunately, his sense of direction was thrown off by the fact that he has never been to the system before.
After wandering aimlessly for a day, he found a pack of Vjun foxes and asked them to help him find his way. They directed him to a large pathway that lead to a city, when the pack decided that this was as far as they would go. One of the young foxes stayed with Coran and agreed to go with him all the way to find Korina. After a few close calls with Mynocks thanks to the fox, Coran called him Risky and developed a strong friendship with him.
When Coran turned 20, he decided that for his trial of the spirit, he would venture deep into the underbelly of Coruscant and retrieve a light green crystal from a man who had stolen them from various Jedi that ventured into the depths of Coruscant. The man had a collection of lightsabers. Coran confronted the man and demanded he return property of the Jedi order. What he didn't know is that the man knew how to wield a lightsaber. Coran was outmatched.
After a half hour of battling the man and almost losing his arm, Risky found the man Coran was fighting and bit his ankle as they were fighting. As the man was distracted, Coran took the opporotunity to slice the man in two at the waist. He thanked his friend and retrieved the lightsabers.
With Risky as a concentration point for the force, Coran spent the next month in the underlevels building a lightsaber to honor the jedi that had fallen to the man. He used parts from their lightsabers and constructed a heavier, more powerful lightsaber with the now unstable Mephite crystal. His month of meditating also helped him to realize that he was not meant to be an expert in weapons, but a friend to the galaxy, someone to mediate and bargain. This deepened his connection with the force. When he came back, he told Korina that he was ready to face the formal trials. Korina agreed.
In the last few months before the present day, he was in queue to take the formal trials. He was sent before the council who were already impressed with his diplomatic ability. He recited the Jedi code without a problem and presented his own lightsaber to the council who told him that while it was heavy, it was a fine weapon.
After his long life so far, Coran became a Jedi Knight at the age of 22. Both Korina and Harlik attended with Risky secured and unable to run around. Coran said that during the ceremony he felt such a strong connection to the force that he felt that he was floating. The force glowed about him like an aura. Korina cut his braid and gave it to Harlik as something to remember Coran by.
Coran chose for himself a dark green jacket and dark brown tunic for his uniform. In the weeks after his knighting ceremony, he constructed a blaster for himself, since he liked to be far away from his enemies at some points.
Lightsaber:
Coran uses an unstable Mephite crystal in his lightsaber. The blade crackles and sizzles green as Coran swings it. Also being a gearhead, Coran made sure his lightsaber was of the utmost quality before he used it. He tested it by throwing it at walls, on the floor, dropping it, and constant stress pulling with the force. The chrome on the hilt never rubbed off, and although scratched, it retainted its sheen.

The bounty hunter's saber came down on Coran's lightsaber with a loud spark and fizzle. The two held their sabers there, pushing against each other with immense force. "You Rodians sure do smell," Coran said, kicking the Rodian in the stomach. The bounty hunter fell back with a clank when his armor contacted the durasteel floor.
The Rodian yelled something rude in his language and came at Coran again. This time, Coran wasn't ready for the attack, and the Bounty Hunter knocked his saber out of his hands, and within seconds, the bounty hunter had his sword at Coran's neck.
"You Jedi aren't so tough after all I see," he said cockily.
Coran looked down the length of the sword, and with a quick movement aided by the force, he kicked the sword out of the bounty hunter's hand, and when he had whipped back around, he had drawn his blaster and placed it against the Rodian's head.
"A Jedi with a blaster? Are you some reject?"
"No, sometimes I just don't like to smell the person I'm fighting. So run away, and I won't end your life."
The rodian turned and ran out of the factory to the city streets, no doubt into the hands of law enforcement. He looked over in the direction his saber was tossed, and reached out with the force to retrieve his lightsaber. The lightsaber rose up and sped to his hand, and with a quick movement, it was back on his belt by his blaster.
He looked around the dim factory for a while and then furrowed his brow, trying to sense something within the force. He opened his eyes and stood infront of a large cargo container. "You can come out now, Tiko," Coran said with a smile. The doors of the container opened to reveal a small rabbit-like creature called a Kushiban.
"Is the bad man gone?" he asked in basic.
"Yes, I don't think he'll be back. Let's go get you back to the spaceport."
