Bio: Keilara Starwind was born and raised on the planet Malastare in the well established Republic outpost. Half Theelin, she had always appeared human while displaying her cultures natural artistic talents. Her mother, Railin Starwind, hoped to nurture her daughters natural artistic abilities. She was stunned when, at the age of 3, Keilara turned to her one morning and began to sing a lively song reflecting the abundance of life on the planet they were living on. She was sadly silenced when her mother finally understood what she was singing about.
That night, as she laid in bed listening to the hushed and tense whispers of her parents, Keilara waited with the anxious fears of a child. Listening to the sound of her mothers' tears, she decided that no one would ever hear her sing again if it made her mother cry. She didn't know that this had just solidified her mothers' concerns that she was a child capable of using the Force and the tears being shed were from the sadness of knowing what was best for her daughter was to send her to the Jedi to be trained.
Keilara would often look back on that day as the moment that her life changed and at the age of 8 as a youngling she would wonder often if it were truly for the better. She was unaware of how her mother and father had learned of this Jedi Temple in the few days before she boarded a starship alone to go and see her “relatives”. She could not know that her parents were political fugitives from Coruscant, nor that they had stood against an alliance with the Sith Empire and been ushered to safety by the Jedi.
She didn’t remember much of the flight to the Temple on Coruscant, but from the moment she stepped off the star craft, she had hated Coruscant desperately. There were too many people and not enough wildlife. Too many people for someone who had been cast off by their family for being different. Too few places to go and be away from the people. Her lack of trust at such a young age was a constant concern for those running her clan, but her ability to cast off her doubts and maintain at least a neutral attitude towards life gave them hope that she could be molded into a proper Jedi.
At the age of 11, she was taken as a Padawan by the Jedi Knight Oona Lasek. Oona had stopped by the clan frequently during Keilara’s younger years, and been intrigued early on by the silent and mournful looking child that Keilara had become. She had hoped that by giving her personal guidance she would gain a brighter outlook on life. Keilara was skeptical of this person who so frequently would barge into her private free-times chattering gayly about various goings-ons in the galaxy and proceed to tell her the customs of a new race of people Keilara had never heard of with every visit. It took 3 years of hard-work and patience on Oona’s part, but just before Keilara reached 13 both had created a solid bond. Keilara trusted Oona as she had not trusted anyone since she had been cast from her home as a child and Oona felt it was time to take her as a Padawan.
Her first few years as a Padawan were what many would call boring. Oona was often sent on diplomatic missions and as her Padawan, Keilara went with her, subtly eager to see all of the planets and races her Master had told her about over the years.
Keilara surprised her Master on one of their first missions together when Oona, after handling a mildly sticky discussion, had turned to her and asked her opinion. Keilara replied simply that it was apparent both men were lying and she was curious as to how they expected her Master to help resolve their conflict when neither was willing to speak the truth. Oona and the two high ranking officials had stared at her a moment before Oona turned back to the men and burst into laughter exclaiming she’d always known that Keilara would come in handy.
Anxiety over her words was quickly soothed by the light praise from her Master and Keilara learned easily the lesson of depending on instinct guided through the force to handle diplomacy. Because of the ease with which she could read people, sometimes through something as simple as shaking a hand, Oona made it a habit to ask her Padawan what her opinion was in most situations. She would then discuss Keilara’s wording as they returned to the enclave after each mission. She had high hopes that Keilara would follow in her diplomatic footsteps and knew she would need to learn when to be blunt and when to be subtle.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t until Keilara turned 18 that Oona discovered Keilara’s ability to sing. Having always equated her songs with her parents rejection, Keilara had been beyond careful to ensure her Master never heard her. Oona had been called to handle a particularly difficult mediation on the violent planet Adumar. The mediation between two tribes had been straining on both Master and Padawan and both had returned to their rooms exhausted. Late that night, unable to sleep, Keilara slipped out onto the balcony of her room.
The soft breeze calmed her and she slipped into a half-meditative state a haunting tune falling from her lips. The notes were carried on the breeze to Oona who paused in her relaying of the days attempts at bringing a peace and she quickly finished her report hoping to hunt down what was making such a beautiful sound. She followed the sound to Keilara’s room and hesitated just a moment before entering quietly. When Keilara was not found in her room, Oona readied herself and stepped out onto the balcony intent on saving her Padawan. She stopped stunned at the sight of Keilara lost in meditation, the haunting tune sounding as though it emanated from her very soul. Oona silently slipped away, not wanting to disturb her Padawans meditation. On their trip home, after they had finished discussing how the meetings had gone, Oona stood and began to pass through the cabin pausing to lay a hand on Keilara’s shoulder. With motherly affection she softly encouraged Keilara to sing more often and then continued on.
Because her first few years as a Padawan were intense on the diplomatic front, Oona held off continuing the Temples basic teachings of Shii-cho. When Keilara reached the age of 16, Oona began to expand on the foundations laid by the Temples' teachers. She was pleased with how quickly her Padawan caught on, though she was not surprised. Keilara had always been a adept pupil.
While her abilities with a lightsaber were acceptable, it was her abilities in the force where she excelled. Naturally empathetic, her skills in the core areas of Force Sense and Control were rather exceptional. Oona recognized this and focused on expanding those abilities.
Frequent meditations throughout the day were a staple of Keilara's training. Oona conditioned her to constantly be in tune with the force. As her training progressed, Keilara began to feel with greater and greater ease the life-forces surrounding her. Oona knew the moments when Keilara had built a strong connection through her meditations as they were easily identified by the song that would be sung by her student. When her sense abilities had been raised through quiet and focused meditation, Oona began adding distractions. She would often tell Keilara that the only way to learn consistancy in her control was to maintain her sense of the force even in a time of battle.
Their greatest practices of this would occur during Keilara's Shii-cho training. Though a capable fighter, her determination to succeed would allow her to become distracted from the world around her and in those moments Oona would swiftly land a hit. It was more important to Oona that Keilara's natural strengths in sense and control be polished than her lightsaber skills and would remind her that in battle she could not lose her sense of her surroundings. She had to keep herself in control. Lectures would often ensue during training spars and practical application was a must. It soon became a bit of a training game for Keilara to attempt to sneak past Oona, they would compete to see who could hold their breath longer, and Oona often had Keilara practice combat healing during simulations.
This focus put Keilara's lightsaber skills at a slight disadvantage but neither expected that this oversight would end up being deadly.
At the age of 20, close to becoming a Jedi Knight in her own right, Keilara was again dealt a devastating blow in the loss of her Master.
Once again Oona and Keilara found themselves on the planet Adumar in the midst of a failed attempt at bringing two violent leaders to an understanding. Oona had unsuccessfully attempted to smooth over the harsh words of one leader when the other pulled a blaster and simply shot him. In the ensuing battle, Keilara quickly found herself outmatched and outnumbered. Sensing the trouble her student was in, Oona sacrificed herself so that Keilara could escape and return to Coruscant with news of their once again failed mission.
Now 21, Keilara is preparing to face the Jedi Trials and take her place as a Jedi Knight.

Keilara sat in the shadows at the top of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant deep in meditation. A haunting tune slipped from her lips as she sought to bring peace to her soul. Soon she would be allowed to begin her trials.
Master Oona would be proud...
As she sorted once again through the emotions she had been plagued with since the lost of her Master the melody she sang twisted along with her.
There is no emotion, there is peace.
She gave herself a mental nod.
Proud, but not prideful. Simply approving of the progress her student had made even in her absence... If only I had known better how to protect myself...
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
A slight sigh unknowingly escaped Keilara. She knew better and what she had viewed as a mistake she had taken painful steps to rectify. If she could at all help it she would never be stuck in such a situation again.
The song she sang turned mournful as she fought through the memories and the emotions that came with them.
I should have been able to save myself! Not been a weak, pitiful thing unable to stay alive and causing the death of her own Master!
Her eyes snapped open and the song abruptly ended. With a defeated sigh, Keilara stood and walked to the end of the temple staring out at the hustle and bustle of the city below.
It is still at this part, “There is no passion, there is serenity” that my meditations fail. I understand what I need to do... Why can I not do it?
A warm evening breeze tousled her hair as she dropped once again into a seated position, pulling her knees close into her body and resting her chin on them.
“There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony, there is no death...”
As she spoke the word death she choked. Tears pooling in her eyes she said once more
“There is serenity, there is harmony, there is no...d-death...” Pausing she, took in a shaky breath and tried again. “There is... n-no dea...”
A sob caught in her throat as a tear streaked down her cheek. Dropping her forehead onto her knees she sobbed softly. A few moments later a soft, warm breeze ghosted over her hair and she quickly looked up, half expecting to see Master Oona. Quickly wiping her eyes so no one could see she had been crying she looks out at the horizon and stretches out with the force finding comfort in it.
“There is no emotion, there is peace...”
As she softly whispered the well worn words of the Jedi code, she could feel peace settling over her heart once again.
“There is no ignorance, there is knowledge...”
Her voice grew stronger with every line as her eyes dried and she found her center once more.
“There is no passion, there is serenity...”
Lifting her head up off her knees, she straightened her spine.
“There is no chaos, there is harmony...”
Keilara pulled herself up into a stand and smiled softly at the whisper of a melody that danced through her mind. That had always been her favorite line. She took a deep breath and stilled herself, reaching for the inner peace offered by the force. Then, raising her head, a small smile on her lips she said in a soft but firm voice,
“There is no death, there IS the force.”
