Description:
Approached by a contractor from the Republic, Ricketts was implored to develop a system that would enhance the concealment of sniper teams in the field. The first and best product that R&D has come up with, designated Chameleon Weave, is the foremost attempt at a personal stealth system. However, rather than using bulky systems that generate a stealth field around the user the Weave works on a revolutionary principal formed around the exploitation of a new metal alloy; Surronium.
A nearly conductive material was discovered that seemed to match the requirements of the developers for this project. The alloy was found to have an atomic structures smaller than the wavelength of light. They realized that if properly utilized, such a cloak would actually guide rays of visible light around an object -- much like a rock diverting water in a stream. Surronium alloy such a that allows for just this. When hit with white light metal to mimic certain types of light depending on the color displayed material itself. The image that is displayed on the material itself is similar to the background setting rather than the person or persons beneath it!
As the material itself is the cause of the light bending characteristics of this system there is no energy required for its use and can be worn in situations like a cloak and, unless closely scrutinized, is nearly undetectable for what it really is. As the project is still in its preliminary stages only a handful have been given to sniper units for field testing. One such group are the Hell Hounds.
The final product is a massive dull metallic-hued cloak that slightly lighter than most personal armors. The cloak itself as well as the insulated user compartment is attached to the wearer via a harness that connects to the vest and waist distributing the weight evenly. The hood is also insulated and houses several of the settings for color, situation, and time of day which are able to be activated by touch or voice.
Ricketts hopes to have a lighter finished product that is more effective and less expensive to manufacture before long.
