Boredom was a disease that not only plagued your ‘average’ person, but jedi as well. Talau knew this all too well, especially now that she was in the throws of a fit of it. It was a plague she greatly wanted to rid herself of as swiftly as possible…and not necessarily by going on another mission. The last few had been harsh on her, emotionally, physically, mentally (not necessarily in that order), and she needed to just go and blow off some steam…not build more up. The most difficult question was: how did she get rid of the pesky thing?! Well, she’d done just about everything she could think of…read, exercise, practice, do a bit of extra research, meditate…you name it (within reason), she had likely done it. So now she was on the prowl through the temple. Of course, it didn’t help that she was in one of her rare(er) and more mischievous moods. Who, though, could she either con into aiding and abetting her mischief, or make into the unwitting recipient of it without getting into too much trouble? As she paced through the halls of the temple, she subconsciously picked out the thread-like bonds of those she knew, weighing them against her current need for a partner-in-crime. Moshav? No sense of humor. Amina’ari? To quiet. Novara? Lone wolf. Jordan? Jazen? Best not to pull a padawan into this. ”Locke?”The face came into view as she rounded a corner, bringing a smile to her lips and into her eyes. He was just finishing talking to someone it looked like, so maybe he would be the lucky recipient of that impish bit of her nature. In an instant she’d pulled her presence in to something negligible as she slipped fully into the crowd, focusing on getting his attention (should it ever turn her direction) to sweep over or around her as she moved closer through the milling crowds. With some swift and smooth moving through the crowd, she managed to make her way around and behind Locke…and the best part, she didn’t think he’d seen her. So, as she got close enough, she would, quite literally, pounce at his back with a loud “AHA! Gotcha Locke!” Attachments:

"Did you check under your pillow?"
"Locke..."
"Okay, how about in your closet?"
"Locke..."
"The crevice between your bed and the wall, maybe?"
"Locke!"
"Oh! I know! Sometimes when I have to... use the bathroom I take something to read an-"
"LOCKE! Force man, come on!" Jeirvil, an Epicanthix Jedi and one of Locke's fellow Investigators was quite clearly irritated. "This isn't the time for your joking! That flimsie was important."
Locke stood placidly with hands in his coat's pockets. His stormy grey eyes were still, watching Jeirvil's face pensively for a moment. Finally the facade broke with a little chuckle and a shaking of his head. "Look, Jeirvil, I know. You think I don't?" He laughed again and put a hand on his taller friend's shoulder. "Honestly, how long have you known me? The moment I started giving idiotic answers... well..." He just shrugged. "You know me."
Jeirvil sighed. "I swear, Locke. Sometimes..." He ran a hand through his short black hair, mussing it more than it already was. "Well, if you don't know where it is, I'm running out of options. I'd hoped you might..."
"I do have a knack for knowing where random missing pieces of information are, I'll give you that," Locke agreed, nodding a bit too sagely. "But I can't say much for that flimsie. It'll turn up."
"It better. I need it by the end of the week." Jeirvil rubbed the sides of his temples until he saw Locke smirking at him. "Don't even say it, Nemsee. I do not look like an old woman when I-"
"You're the one that said it, not me." Locke grinned deviously.
Jeirvil rolled his eys. "Right. Anyway, I should go. Force, a gorram Investigator and I can't find a stupid flimsie..." He shook his head and turned to leave. Before he went three steps, he paused and looked back over his shoulder. "We still good for our spar for the week, right?"
Locke laughed. It was a warm, rich laugh that echoed slightly in the massive hallway. "Jeirvil, I've been sparring with you since I was a frail little boy. Of course it's still on." A wry little grin tugged at the corners of his mouth. "Don't be so silly."
"Right... of course." Jeirvil shook his head again and laughed softly. "See you then, Locke." He turned and walked off, boots clicking softly on the marble floors with every step.
Locke shook his head. "I swear, tha-" Did he hear something? He started to turn back to look over his shoulder. "Hm?"
And then Talau was there, nearly on his back.
"Ah!" He stumbled forward a step or two when she pounced him, and then turned to face her fully. "Talau! What an... unexpected way to start an unexpected meeting." He chuckled softly and put his hands into his pockets again. "You seem to be in high spirits. Least from an initial impression. What can a I for ya?"

Perfect landing!
With a short cry of surprise from her target, she collided with Locke, knocking him back a few paces. She, of course, was laughing the entire time. The expression on his face had been priceless…priceless enough that a bright and happy blue tinted her eyes swiftly as she tried to help balance them both again. Letting go at last, she’d put her hands on her hips and grin at him, flecks of mischievous dark green bleeding into her eyes.
“Talau! What an…unexpected way to start an unexpected meeting.”
Oh, he has no idea…
The green in her eyes was swiftly spreading, pressing out the blue as she shrugged slightly and hoped he’d be game for doing something to break the monotony. ”Oh, I’m in fairly good spirits, sure…though…I have a bit of a problem. Something you might just be able to help me with…if you’re willing, that is.” There was something impish about her at the moment, it would be visible, tangible, from her eyes to her posture…from her voice to her presence in the force. ”How about you and I take a walk and I pitch you my problem and my proposal…hmm?” With that, and a bright smile, she’d start off down the hall.
She’d foregone her typical clothing and leather armor…as civilian as it might appear…in favor of a comfortable pair of pants and a close fitting top. Of course, her sabers were tucked away on her belt, along with all her other tools…she wasn’t foolish enough to leave them behind, but she couldn’t very well have people knowing she was anything near a jedi. Not if there was fun to be had outside the temple walls. Pausing a few paces ahead of Locke, she’d pause and turn slightly to look over her shoulder, grinning again before nodding for him to follow her. ”Well? C’mon…”

Even though he supposed he should've been used to it by now, Locke could never help but feel his attention get caught in Talau's eyes whenever he saw them. There was something inherently intriguing in the way they constantly shifted, changing to fit her mood. They were so odd, so uniquely interesting... They just drew him in.
One day, he might even figure out what more than the scant few he understood already meant.
Presently, he had a rather strong suspicion that that green that was flowing into her eyes like water from a hidden source had something to do with mischief, or wanting to cause mischief. Was the best guess he could give, with the way she'd pounced him.
Or the way she was carrying or self.
Or the way she felt in the Force.
Or the way she sounded.
What are you up to, Tal? he wondered, amused by her sudden appearance and behavior. She was up to something. Of that, he could be certain.
”How about you and I take a walk and I pitch you my problem and my proposal…hmm?”
Locke lifted his brows and watched when she started to walk down the hall. As she went on, he just stood, there, looking honestly dumbfounded until she turned around and spoke to him.
"You're proposing to me?" he asked, voice a mask of perfect surprised seriousness. "Talau, I have to say, this is all a bit sudden." He sighed, put a hand on his forehead to wipe it and shifted his weight from his left leg to the right. "I mean... I'll have to check with my mother, and I don't even know if Father will let me move out of the house to live on my own. He barely trusts me to put on my pants or tie my own shoes in the morning...
"And besides that, I thought the guy was always supposed to ask the girl. Now gran'ma's gonna be so upset when she finds out I didn't have the courage and I just don't know what I'll do..." Both his face and voice changed near the end, taking on what looked to be an honest sense of worry; working as an Investigator had its benefits, and while he wasn't a professional actor, he could be convincing when he wished it. Not that he was trying to be convincing, per se, here.
Still, he let that facade hang for a moment after he finished speaking, and then he was the same easy, Jedi he always was as he walked forward to her, hands back in his pockets.
"Sure thing," said he, grinning just a little after his display. "Long as you promise I'll be back by bedtime. Would hate to get in trouble."

Amusement, curiosity…oh so much curiosity…a hit of wariness…good, she had him nice and perplexed. That suited her just fine, really. If anything the young shadow was quite happy to have Locke about as baffled by her actions as possible…until she let him in on her ideas, of course. There was just something fun about confusing the hell out of a man to the point where he was trying to guess what you were up to. It made her just about giggle. Hell, she might have giggled if she hadn’t had such good control over her emotions.
Currently, she was simply simmering in her own amusement and entertainment at the situation.
”Well…I suppose you’re right that it is a bit soon…” she replied pensively, the fingers of her right hand absentmindedly toying with the clear pendant at the hallow of her throat as if she were actually considering the situation. ”Though, your father’s always been rather hard nosed about things. Maybe it’s time you just moved out anyway.” Nodding sagely, she smirked just a bit before grinning outright at his final comment, her eyes stained a multitude of vibrant green hues as she started walking again. ”Well, I won’t make any promises on that, but I’ll try.”
Chuckling a little, she’d wait for him to fall into step with her, hands behind her back, before glancing over to him again. ”You see, Mister Nemsee, I’m feeling the need to have a little fun…relieve some stress, so to speak…and I think you might just be the man to help with that. If you’re not too afraid of big daddy comin’ after you, of course.”

Locke nodded vigorously. "Yes. Pappy has always been so strict about things, you see. And I can't say I blame him, but... moving out of the house to living on my own just seems so..." He made a wide gesture with his hands, as if grabbing at something far too large and heavy for him to carry alone. "Daunting. The Galaxy is a big, confusing place--and I heard that sometimes it can be frightening to live alone, especially when the bills come every month."
He sighed, shaking his head and looked thoughtfully up at the ceiling. "Perhaps I'll take it in baby steps. Move in with Gran'ma-ma for a little while and get used to being away from Mother and Father. She could use the company these days anyway..."
Honestly, he was rather tempted to keep the act up for a while. But he'd reached the point where it was getting difficult to keep a straight face, so he just grinned stupidly at Talau for a few moments before he chuckled and shook his head.
"Aaaah, jeez. Sure, I guess it won't hurt to get out for a little while. Have some fun." He grinned and made a sweeping bow, with one arm tucked beneath the fold of his slender waist while the other gestured grandly forward. "Lead on, m'dear."

For as good an actress she had to be at points for her job poor Talau just couldn’t keep a straight face. The more he rambled on the more she smirked, then smiled and snickered, then grinned and chuckled until she was laughing softly and shaking her head at him. She could feel the curiosity of several passing jedi prickle around the two of them and it only made her laugh more. If only they knew what the conversation had been the reactions would have been priceless.
“Aaaah, jeez. Sure, I guess it won’t hurt to get out for a little while Have some fun. Lead on, m’dear.”
Still chuckling, she could only shake her head at his grandiose motion for her to lead the way before giving him a playful backhanded slap to the shoulder. ”Oh cut it out Locke, you absurd man, and let’s go.” With another chuckle she’d start walking again, headed toward the grand entryway. After a moment or two to get herself decently composed again, she glanced over at him with eyes a bright mixture of greens.
”So, what mischief shall we cause in the city once we’re free of this place, hmm? Anything in particular that you like to do on what little time off you get?” It was sort of sad, she knew Locke…decently…but they didn’t often get a chance to talk about things that weren’t Order or mission related. She didn’t even know what he liked to do. ’Hell, sometimes I don’t even remember what I like to do for fun!’ It had been a long time since she’d been able to just go out and have some fun, and even longer since she’d actually taken advantage of that time…much less done so with someone she considered a friend.
’Now that’s a sad statement, Tal,’ she mused as they merged with the throng of jedi coming and going in the large entry hall to the temple or milling about the bases of the statues. She didn’t have many friends, really. Certainly she had plenty of acquaintances, but so few friends…and several of them were just…gone, or had left the Order entirely, or were out on missions whenever she managed to get back to the temple. That was one thing about being a jedi, or a shadow specifically…you didn’t have much time to make new friends and you didn’t get back ‘home’ often. I suppose I need this outing more than I thought.

Locke shrugged a bit as they stepped out of the Temple and into the pleasant evening air. "Oh I dunno," he said, looking out at the city thoughtfully as his steps slowed to a thought came to a stop. What did he like to do when he had free time? Between his duties, his obligations with Jazen, and his needs for his own training and meditation, Locke didn't often find himself with much free time to do as he pleased.
Well, sometimes he liked to go out and have a few drinks. Maybe get a little drunk. Sometimes more than a little.
But that was a secret.
"Could always watch you beat up Jazen again," he said, with a grin that was wry enough to match the tone of his voice. He chuckled, sighing and started to walk down the steps in front of the Temple. "Force knows, just doing it gets boring after a while. Sometimes it's fun to see other people."
Locke chuckled again. He was kidding, of course. For the most part; he wasn't lying in implying he could have his way with the kid when he wished it; he'd done just that earlier in the day when Jazen had mouthed off during a spar when it would have been wise to remain silent.
"Nah, I don't think that'll do," he went on. "Kid needs a break anyway." Locke scratched at his beard as they moved down the steps, considering. He nearly considered making the suggestion that they go out drinking somewhere, but he didn't know Talau well enough for that. He didn't think she'd have much of a problem, but with some Jedi you never knew.
"As for what I like to do well... depends. Most of the time I like to go out into the city when I'm not in the Temple." He looked over his shoulder at her. "Guess it's part of the way my master and his friend taught me. Learned to like being out with the people we're supposed to be serving.
"And I won't lie, I like a night out on the town every now and again."
Locke shrugged noncommittally, with a lazy smile stretched across his face. "You want my suggestion, I say we go out and see what comes our way." He chuckled then, his voice warm and soft. "Never was much of a man for planning anyway."

“Oh I dunno…”
She lifted a brow at that answer. Maybe that’s why so many jedi seemed so stuffy these days…no one remembered what they liked to do for fun, or remembered what it was like to have a little fun. So much of their time was spent doing hard or dangerous work, taking care of and teaching padawans, or meditating and practicing on their own that it was easier to forget what real fun was than it was to make time to have some. It was certainly a sad truth…and one she had come to realize in her own life as well. That was, perhaps, one of the reasons why she felt so much pressure and tension in her daily life recently.
How sad. I’m only 24 and I’ve already forgotten what it’s like to have time dedicated solely to having a little fun? I want to deny it, but maybe it’s true…
She paused only a moment after Locke did, having realized that he had fallen behind her by a few steps. Turning, she looked at him quizzically as she took in his thoughtful appearance, wondering what it was he was thinking so hard about. Was he still considering her question, too?
“Could always watch you beat up Jazen again.”
Her eyes widened a bit at that, threaded with a surprised orange. Even the force wasn’t giving her easy clues as to if he was joking or not about that comment, which made her wonder about how stubborn the boy was. Padawans…she’d considered taking one, had almost done so, but she doubted she was ready for one and so she had helped the boy find himself another master. As he started walking again she picked up beside him once more, her eyes wandering to the sky that was swiftly painting itself the vivid colors of early evening and sunset.
“Force knows, just doing it gets boring after a while. Sometimes it’s fun to see other people…Nah, I don’t think that’ll do. Kid needs a break anyway.”
Okay, there, that was clearly more a joke than what he’d said first. Still, a truth she’d known for a good long while held true: in joking and teasing there is, more often than not, a hint of truth. Smiling a bit she’d shrug silently and continue on down the steps without saying a word for a long moment. ”Good, because I don’t feel like beating anyone anyway. Pranking, perhaps, but not beating,” she admitted as they crossed the stretch of duracrete and large planters that made up the area between the steps and the gate to the temple.
“As for what I like to do, well…depends.”
Nodding slightly she listened to him quietly. It made a lot of sense, but just being around people wasn’t what she was looking for tonight…that much she knew. She felt active, needed to be active, to do something that wasn’t related to the jedi or her own typical tasks. When he finished she sighed a bit and stopped near the gate, looking at him seriously. ”I’m fine with that suggestion, just as long as whatever we do is active and has nothing to do with our lives here. Any more of it tonight and I might as well beat my head on a wall from the stress.”
Now there was an honest admittance, and with it she started walking again, clasping her hands behind her back and strutting cheerfully toward, and through, the front gate…the force bubbling with a cheerful energy around her.
