Description/role:
The Phoenix Cage is a modified CC-4000-BF/T Freighter re-purposed and refitted by Horst Stellar and the engineers of Spearpoint. The freighter, originally designed to transport in individual pods of cargo, was redesigned to carry a total of 48 fighters for immediate deployment in a battle setting. As many could imagine, this was quite the undertaking.
The ship's first issue was it's structure of magnetically-upheld cargo units. The engineers set about replacing the structurally weak spine of the ship with a thicker, more sound central component double the size and made of far stronger materials, sacrificing the magnet aspect in the process.
The second modification was the attachment of the cargo containers and their structure, which was formally magnetic and completely sealed the pods from one another. In addition to installing life support systems in each container, the engineers firmly and physically connected the huge pods to the new spine, and proceeded to connect each container to each other, increasing the structural integrity to the point at which the freighter was completely independent of any magnetic technology. The ship, formally a cabin at the front followed by separate rooms, was now a large single unit, split into separate units, and for all intents and purposes connected.
The pods, numbering 24 in all, were split into three purposes. 12 were decked and outfitted for the storage, launch, and landing of fighters. Each of the fighter pods of course had their out-facing wall modified so as to open up, so as to act as a hangar doors (these included non-physical particle walls so as to retain the atmosphere of the pods upon opening).
3 pods were refitted for maintaining the crew, with fashions, accommodations, and space for each resembling that of a standard military barracks. Each pod has its own sleeping levels, mess hall, and sets of bathrooms. The crew is set to live about in military-grade bunks, military-grade rations, and military-grade routines, therefore making the entire experience demanding of some structure.
The final 9 pods were largely kept as-is, and as such contain all supplies the needed by the fighters, crew, and carrier itself. These pods have been changed little from their previous state, save for life-support and improved lighting.
The ship on the whole has been modified as well. The engineers' main two goals were durability and speed, both of which the stock model lacked in. This was done by adding more armor plating and an improved hyperdrive. Additional durasteel was added to every compartment as well as the spine so as to allow the ship to be more battle-worthy, and the superior hyperdrive increased the speed to the point of no longer severely hindering the fleet's speed.
