No matter what anyone told you, the life of a Jedi was not an easy one. Go to ten different planets and you'll find that one in ten people asked if they thought the Jedi had it easy because they were so respected and powerful would tell you that was a lie. The other nine would go off into rants or speeches about the Jedi, either out of respect or hate, but it always came back to them thinking that being a Jedi was easy. Swing a magic sword and look all daunting, some said. Use a power that could fling a blaster hundreds of meters away or pick a full grown man off his feet like he weighed little more than a leaf others would speak.
If they only knew, Jazen thought to himself as he trekked through the halls of the temple towards one of the empty training rooms. The truth was that being a Jedi was actually easy; training to become one and performing the duties a Jedi was honor bound to perform were the hard part. It was simple to call yourself a Jedi and swing around said magic sword, to wield a power unseen to the normal eye; but if you weren't properly trained with said sword, you'd be looking in the market for a prosthetic limb the next day. And the Force was just as dangerous as any blaster; properly handled, it was an effective tool but wielded by someone improperly trained and it was dangerous to all around the user, including himself.
On top of that, Jedi had to know how to handle tough diplomatic situations, usually on many worlds where one misstep on a planet's customs could spell disaster. As such, they had to learn diplomacy, study planets and their histories, even learn how to interpret a species native language if they didn't speak Basic well. Mixed hand in hand with their combat exercises, these lessons were often long and complicated, although they got easier as time passed. And of course, there was the emotional training they had to undergo in order to avoid letting their emotions get the better of them, which could lead to falling onto the path to the dark side. And that path, which whispered of easy power and dark desires fulfilled, came with not only a hefty price, but a heavy burden. The burden of knowing just what you were doing; and how you were enjoying it.
Jazen sighed as he moved into the empty training room, still wondering what had brought on his most recent train of thinking. Perhaps it had been all the chatter about how with the Jedi protecting the Chancellor on Druckenwell, the event would go smoothly and without a hitch. All the "oh the Jedi are here, who would dare try something with them around. Oh look, theres a Jedi Master. Now we're sure nothing will happen." Well, something had happened and the enemy had come this close to taking out the Chancellor that day. And then those who had been cheering the Jedi's name had switched tunes, thinking that because they had been there, the enemy had more reason to attack. It was that train of thinking, while small, that was going to be their downfall one day. When the people no longer believed in the Jedi and aid was few, that's when the Sith would strike. And by then, they would probably win.
Sitting cross-legged in the middle of the floor, Jazen sighed again and slipped himself into the Force. It was only midday and yet, Jazen felt exhausted. Then again, that was nothing new, considering Jazen's daily routine. Get up. Do a jog around the temple's outer walls twice. Eat something. Head to the archives to do languages and combat studies, followed by a set of physical exercises in the temple's training halls. Then Force meditation for a while followed by the practicing of his Force powers. Eat again. Lightsaber practice followed that, then back to the archives for more language studies and review of a random species. Finally, a combination of using his Force powers, lightsaber techniques and basic combat techniques filled out the remaining hours of the day. After that, he would eat a final meal, then head to rest.
He had just finished his physical exercises and as such, was now performing his Force Mediation. This was actually new to his daily life, ever since Roq had told him that he might be able to use the Force skill known as Battle Mediation. So during this time, he focused on the times he had felt the feeling Roq had said was said skill and tried to find a way to bring it to life. Still no real progress, but that wouldn't deter him. Connected to the Force as he was, he could feel many beings wandering the halls outside of the room. This was to expected of course; he was in the temple, where thousands of Jedi resided. One of those many presences was approaching the room itself and after a moment, it was clear that that person's intended destination was this room. Jazen didn't break from his mediation however, but he did turn more of his focus on the approaching presence. Whoever it was, if they wanted to make themselves known, they would do so when they got here.

Singing to some tune only she could hear, Elys half danced her way to force knew where. This proved to be a source of consternation to many of the jedi she passed since she tended to twirl the staff of her pike every now and again like she were twirling a flag. Then again, she would also stop occasionally and spin in place before dancing along once more to her unknown destination. Some of the looks she got were priceless. Simply priceless…especially from the older jedi.
Truthfully, Elysia wasn’t thinking about much of anything except having a good time and whatever song was running through her mind currently (though the only words she really remembered from the song were ‘express yourself’). She’d studied, she’d gone to train with her pike and her saber, she’d showered, and now she was off to see where the force might take her. It was a quirk of hers, really…going where the force took her, much like a leaf on a river.
She liked rivers.
Now, certainly she didn’t seem like the best (or brightest) padawan at this point to any who might have been watching her…especially when she stopped to try and get another padawan to dance along with her (and mildly succeeding)…but truthfully, she was just…quirky. And happy. And stressed. Mostly stressed. This was her way of coping, not that she really realized that was the case, but it was the case. There was just too much for her to worry about that she couldn’t easily change that she decided just not to worry about it and be that leaf on the calm river of the force. Tomorrow she would meet Master Me’ballan for the padawan tournaments and see if she could find herself a master, but today she would just be a leaf…and gosh darn it, she would be a happy leaf!
It was this happy leaf Elys that Jazen would feel coming down the hall toward the room he occupied, but she had little to no attention on him or his probing about her in the force. She just didn’t care, really…not until she hopped to a stop in front of the door, one fist on her hip, the other on her staff (which was firmly planted on the ground), and her feet set shoulder width apart. For a moment she eyed the filmy door and wall, and the pipes, and the wires, and the person beyond them wondering why she was here. Deciding that she didn’t particularly care (she was a leaf!), Elys stepped inside with a chipper ”Hello!”
So there she stood, staff in one hand and leather satchel hanging over her other hip covering her blaster, as she looked at the teen settled there before her. Without another moment’s hesitation, she spoke…and boy how she spoke. ”Sorry, I didn’t mean to bother you, but I was just being a leaf right now and the river led me here to you so I figured I might as well come in and say hello, so hello! My name’s Elysia, Elys for short. Who, and how, are you?”
With that said...she grinned.

With every step that brought Elys closer to the training room, her presence in the Force became more unique, which gave Jazen a chance to read her more carefully. Sure, he could have focused entirely on her from the start if he wanted to and read her that way, but this training was to help him sense and connect to many Jedi at once. If he couldn't read one while still being able to sense the others, it wouldn't be very effective when in a dire situation, now would it?
Still, now that she was practically knocking on the door, Jazen couldn't help but break from his meditation to focus entirely on her, the Force weaving around her glowing presence like pedals caught dancing around the center of a small wind funnel. The first thing he could say about her was she was literally streaming happy emotions into the flowing river that was the Force. The positive flow she was giving off filtered down the line to him, which brought a tingle down his spine. How many times had he actually felt someone giving off "this" much joy? Not often, that was for sure. Most the time, the people he sensed were in the gray area; happy, but not quite happy enough. Others were so deep in the negative that Jazen wondered if they would ever climb back out, while even more were lingering the line between joy and despair. Even Locke, for all his cheerfulness, was never all the way into happy.
Elys, however, must have found the dial, turned it up to "100% happy" and then broken it so it stayed there. When she pushed open the door to the training room, Jazen could not help but look to see just what kind of person he was dealing with. The first thing he was drawn to was her face; pale white skin, sandy colored hair and a blue sash covering her eyes being the key features to an otherwise normal looking face. Her bright presence in the Force made her skin glow though, something Jazen hadn't come across before. It made her seem....warmer somehow. From there, his eyes noted in a descending order details about her. Standard Jedi robes, much like his own, covered her body from neck to ankle. Nothing out of the norm for a Jedi below the rank of knight, expect in some cases. What wasn't part of the normal kit was the long staff she held firmly in one hand and the leather satchel adoring the opposite side. Jazen blinked at the staff a little longer than he intended too; he had seen it somewhere before, but at the moment, where that was exactly escaped him.
Any further readings into her presence and appearance that Jazen was planning on doing was cut short, as Elys suddenly broke the momentary silence her arrival had brought forth. And oh lord, did she ever tear that silence to pieces, her words coming both fast and consistent.
”Sorry, I didn’t mean to bother you, but I was just being a leaf right now and the river led me here to you so I figured I might as well come in and say hello, so hello! My name’s Elysia, Elys for short. Who, and how, are you?”
Jazen's mouth gaped against his will, albeit only slightly as the last of her words faded off. Words that he wanted to form were caught trapped behind his tongue, a combination of surprise and making sure she was actually done, not taking a breath just to continue. The leaf stuff in particular curbed his words, as his mind was racing to find what she could have ever meant by that. Logically, of course. When he found that nothing came to mind, he had to suppress a small laugh before listening intently for the next moment. Once he was reasonably sure that she was done, his words and tongue finally found their proper place and started to spill forth.
"Wow......never ran into someone who could say that much that fast without taking a breath. Uh anyway....that's quite alright. I was more or less hoping someone might come along sooner or later. That, and I was almost done that portion of my exercises anyways.
Your a...leaf following the flow of the river...huh. Can't say I've ever heard someone use that to explain what could be considered as random wandering, unless I miss the real meaning behind that statement. But anyway, nice to meet you Elysia....errrr...Elys. I'm Jazen Solari, Jazen for short. And I'm quite well thank you....a little tired but that's too be expected after a long day.
Say......isn't it hard to see where your going with that sash over your eyes? I mean, I guess that's one way to practice using the Force but it could really end badly if you're......"his words trailed for a moment as a realization came to his mind about her, which changed his words mid sentence,"you're a Miralukan, aren't you? And that....is that a....Force pike?"

Just as he had sized her up, she now sized the padawan before her up. From the top of his hair to the place where he sat…it wasn’t horribly far since he was sitting down, after all. The braid said padawan, the robes were obviously jedi (well of course, as if he’d be anything else!), there was an odd dim spot where one eye should be, but he seemed to have it…now that IS odd, she thought to herself, tilting her head to one side as she attempted not to snicker at his open mouthed gawking. Really, you’d think he’d never heard someone talk before.
Well, alright, to be fair he’d never heard her talk before. Silently she studied the aura around him, watching it twist and flicker and move like they so often did. Well, at least he seemed amused. She supposed that was a good thing, right? Of course right. When he finally did decide to speak it was with that ‘I'm not quite sure what to say, so I'm going to just kind of stumble through my thoughts and hope this turns out alright’ kind of speech that always made her giggle. So she giggled.
”I practice. I could say a lot more if you want? One time I actually said such a long sentence that by the time I was done I had no breath left. It got me a master, actually…but that was forever ago.” For a moment the happy meter dropped, but it was right back up to ‘OHMAHGAWDHAPPY!’ in the blink of his eyes. Eyes! That was what it was! One of them had to be artificial! No wonder it seemed different! ”Well, your hopes brought me ‘round it seems. Hmm…that sounds sort of funny if you think about it.”
She seemed to ponder the thought for a few taps of her foot before shrugging and trotting fully into the room and plopping down cross-legged in front of him, laying her pike aside, pulling off her satchel, and readjusting her blaster on her thigh. ”Oh, it wasn't a random wandering at all! I was following the force, of course! Hey! I just rhymed, isn't that odd?" Chuckling, she grinned over at him and shook her head as if that had been the oddest thing she’d heard herself say all day. ”But yes…I was simply a leaf and the force the river on which I was floating, letting it guide me along to wherever I was meant to be right now. So, here I am. It nice to meet you ‘Jazen Solari, Jazen for short.’ Glad to hear you’re doing well, even if you are tired.”
She tilted her head slightly at his question about the sash and she tried to figure out just what he was on about. Maybe he’d never seen a Miraluka before? But, right when she’d been about to correct him, something seemed to click. ”Ayep! A Miraluka I am! And you’re right again, it is a pike. Most people don’t guess because I built it to hide the emitter. Pretty nifty, huh?”

Jazen had felt there was always a small line of tension whenever two people met; a line that could either be broken to friendship or hardened to create an enemy. That tension usually took one of those paths after the first few minutes of interaction, depending on how those minutes went. In this case, it took the former when Elys started giggling. That simple line of tension snapped instantly when she did, cleaved by the blade that was her high spirited giggle. This eased the little weight that Jazen had felt on his shoulders and a wide grin slide across his features, even though she probably couldn't see it.
Now that he recognized her as a Miraluka, the blue sash covering her head made sense. Miraluka didn't have eyes; they had eye sockets yes, but nothing occupied them and their skin grew over the empty holes. This attributed to giving the Miraluka a rather sullen(and somewhat frightening) appearance, which many of them were judged for. As such, almost every Miraluka covered their eye area with some form of concealment, ranging from a sash like Elys had to visors to helmets. The sash was the more common however, at least from what Jazen had seen. Truth be told, he hadn't done much study into their culture and race. He only knew the basics, though like many other species listed in the archives, Jazen had intended to get to reading more into them at some point. Well, lo and behold, a chance to learn firsthand.
But that could wait. She looked to be about his age, which made Jazen only happier; he hadn't run into many others closer to his age as of late. His main form of interaction had always been with knights ranging from six to ten years his senior; he really didn't have someone his age he could call a friend. Well, this was a good chance to gain one, if he didn't manage to screw it up like certain other things. And to start things off, he chuckled at her joking. If she was joking.......
"You could? You have? I mean...wow. I don't think I've ever met someone who's actually talked enough to actually run out of breath. Though, if it gained you something as a result, it must have been one good sentence."
He noticed a slight change in her emotions after she said that, possibly remembering something painful from her past. But whatever it was didn't stand a chance before her onslaught of happiness, as it steamrolled over that brief negativity to return her to the beaming girl she had waltzed in as. Wow, I don't think I've ever met someone this happy. Ever. I fear for the negative people of the world should they ever run into her; I think her joy is contagious. Heh, its nice for a change. His brief thoughts were quickly shoved aside as Elys went off again, words pouring out of her mouth like water streaming from a broken dam. Keeping up was a task in itself.
"My hopes called you did they? I'll have to try hoping for things more often then, since they seem to work so well." He watched her calmly as she made her way over to him, planting herself across from him, her gear placed to either side of her. Jazen's eyes glanced down to the blaster at her side, something that made him wince for a second internally. He still didn't like the thought of Jedi using blasters, but that's cause he seemed attached to the notion that Jedi didn't need to use such crude weapons. Still, if he got along with Locke even though he used one, it wouldn't be hard for him to do the same thing for Elys. He waited for her to finish her newest slew of conversation, then grinned back at her. Her comment about rhyming made him chuckle; he couldn't help it, she was just so random at times.
"Ah, so you simply hopped into the river and let it carry you wherever it liked? Well, it chose a nice place to end; a fellow apprentice just around the bend." Did he just rhyme too? Guess her cheerfulness wasn't the only thing that was contagious. "And heh, just call me Jazen. Though I'm sure you could say Jazen Solari, Jazen for short every time, it's not a very practical thing to call out when one's in a rush. 'Hey Jazen Solari, Jazen for short, are you going to finish that. Jazen Solari, Jazen for short, watch out for that rock.' And thank you; I'd ask how your doing, but I think you've already answered that question many times over.
Wow, never really met a Miraluka in person. I mean, I've read about them and seen them from afar, but I haven't had the chance to talk to one, person to person. And I knew it! A force pike isn't something one sees everyday, so its not hard to notice one when someone comes along with it. And why yes, it is nifty to hide the emitter. Give's you a surprise for the bad guys you encounter. Grand planning that is."
I'm surprised I haven't run into you before. I mean, I know there are lots of Jedi wandering about the halls, but the odds are we would have bumped into one another at some point before now. Unless.....were you away at some of the other enclaves for an extended period of time? With that master you said you gained by being a talkative person?

At his grin, she grinned back. Of course she could see it, her force sight was honed enough that she could see pretty much everything. There were, of course, some things that were hazier than others, but she was pretty good with distinguishing facial features and expressions. ”I have and I did. I was only a youngling then, though…and it, well it wasn’t really so much one sentence as it was a very long series of questions. I’d never seen a twi’lek in person before, you know, so I was very curious. I'm naturally curious you know? That’s why I was so glad she took me as a padawan, and it was even better when she turned out to be an investigator. Lots of research to do with that…all very fascinating.” Even though she was happy enough to talk about Ayani and learning to be an investigator, there was a subtle ripple of anxiety, frustration, and sadness that colored the force around her as she spoke.
”And of course you should hope for things! Life’s no fun without dreaming and hoping for things! Sometimes I’d rather stay asleep because that’s when you dream the most. Then again, sometimes I’d just rather stay awake. I'm not particularly fond of getting nightmares, but who is, right? Anyway, if you hope for things, sometimes you get pleasantly surprised!” With a grin, she settled in further and chuckled, sighing happily. ”But yes, I just sort of let it take me wherever it wanted me to go. I like to do that…good practice, and sort of calming.” Again she chuckled, this time at his teasing her about her teasing him about his name…and then about asking her how she was doing. He might have been surprised at her answer if he’d asked, but since he hadn’t there was no point in dredging up a frustrating topic. Right?
”Well, hiding the emitter helps keep people off balance. Most people don’t exactly expect a jedi to walk around with a big ol’ staff, especially when it just looks like a staff and nothing else. It’s come in real handy before…you know, everyone expects a short little lightsaber, not a staff and a blaster. As for not running into me, well…Master Ayani and I were gone a lot. We spent time here of course, on Alpheridies for a few years, on Dantooine, Corellia…lots of places, but mostly here or on missions. We were very active…she didn’t like sitting around the temple much, and I enjoyed traveling.”

Wow, when she gets talking, she really gets talking, doesn't she?, was the thought that came to mind as Elys responded to his words. He'd never met anyone so....."chatty" in his life. He'd run into people who talked plenty, yes, but never all at once. Or that quickly for that matter. The fact that she did it brought several things to Jazen's mind but if he had to choose one word to describe what he felt in one word, that word would be.....refreshing. Order and predictably were all well and good, made it easy to response and act accordingly if you knew what was going to happen. But sometimes, something different just had to happen. And for Jazen, who was slowly becoming more and more crushed under the weight of the galaxy, Elys's odd yet funny personality was a welcome change to the strife and chaos he had seen.
"If you were only a youngling when you pulled that off, I'm slightly scared to see what you can do now. I imagine you could say twice as much now with one breath with all those years to practice. And I can understand the being curious thing, though I hope you gave her enough time to answer them all....or reminded her what the first question was at least in case it got lost among the others. Jazen took a moment to take a breath(not all of us could talk for so long without breathing after all) before continuing. "Hah, who isn't naturally curious? Isn't that what being a kid is for? Cause once we become adults, you have to just know "everything". Well, that's good then; you managed to get your wish by just being you. How many people can say they managed that purely by luck?"
As joyful as she was about the topic, Jazen felt her flutter in the Force again. Something about the event she spoke of made her feel sadness and frustration, but Jazen wasn't going to go sticking his nose into that room just yet. He had just met Elys for Force's sake; he did not want to mess up a possible friendship with this hyper cheerful girl because he let his curiosity get the better of him. Even if he did want to know what could make someone so cheerful for no apparent reason other than life itself feel sadness.
"Well, hoping is easy. I just never thought that just hoping for something would make it happen. I was under the impression that I had to work for it if I wanted my hopes to come true. Or maybe that's just my old master talking. Anyway, that's a mute topic. I totally agree with you about how sleep and staying awake can both be a good thing; sleep is so relaxing and there's no cares when you are at rest, only pleasant dreams for the most part. But nightmares are never fun; its those few times that I have them do I find sleep to not be so alluring."
As he had felt her flatter in the Force, she would probably feel him flatter now. Dark had been his dreams of late. When he wasn't having the dreams Elys spoke of, he was being attacked by twisted nightmares and visions, both of which often snapped him awake in a cold sweat. The nightmares were new though; a parasite that had tagged along with him after Umgul. Over and over he had relieved that terrible day in his sleep and not one of those ended as well as the real thing. It scared him to be honest, especially after his latest one. It scared him because for a brief moment, he found himself liking how powerful his rage and hate had made him. And the nightmares brought that feeling back each time. Jazen did his best to not let too much of that seep out, but if what he heard about Miraluka's was true, they were better attuned to the Force than most people. So he decided to move onto a better topic, one that would hopefully dispel both of their worries.
"I'll have to try jumping into that river one time. Beats jumping into a real one; that can end badly if one is not careful." He nodded in approval when she spoke about her staff, though he noticeably cringed when she mentioned the blaster. Never did like those, Jazen did. "It's a good trick. One minute they are facing a big stick, the next they are staring down the blade of a glowing saber. Would most certainty help catch an enemy off guard, even possibly disarm him before any real violence can ensue. Though I'm not too fond of the blaster.
Well, that explains why I've never seen your around. If your not here often, it would be hard to meet, wouldn't it? Funny though; I'm here quite a bit when my master gets tied up with his own work. You'd think at some point that we'd end up here at the same time before now. Must be some kind of gremlin at work. I've not seen that much, though I've seen my fair share. Alderaan, Umgul, Skato, Haruun Kal, Cerea, Druckenwell, Mustafar and Naboo are the latest notes on my travel card. Most of them were enjoyable......most of them. So, are you stopping by with your master before heading out again? As far as I know, that's why I'm around; waiting while he attends to some matters of his own before we find out next assignment. Maybe if your not going anywhere right away, we can make up for all those missed meetings." (^__^ is his face during this whole time, minus the dark moody moments)

”Aw, no need to be scared. I’ve actually calmed down a little since I’ve gotten older…” she paused a moment and scratched at the back of her neck. ”A very little, but I have. As for curious…welllllll…my sort of curiosity isn’t typical I don’t think. I want to know about absolutely everything. I haven’t really found much I'm not curious about for some reason or another. But no, I didn’t really let her get a word in edgewise. I just sort of…stopped…asking questions because, well, she gave me this look and then I felt so embarrassed that I had to apologize and explain.” That earned a furrow of her brow and a slight tilt of her head. ”Come to think of it…it might have been the explanation that got her interested as well.”
His curiosity wasn’t lost on Elys, and if she had to she’d explain, but she would have preferred not to have to. As he continued speaking, she nodded a bit and shrugged slightly, picking up where he’d left off and casually ignoring the sprinkling of emotion that came off of him like a cold mist. No point in dredging up his negative emotions if he was kind enough not to dredge up hers. ”Well yes, working to make hopes happen is also good, but not all hopes happen through work, just like not all hopes come on their own. You never really can tell the difference though…so it’s better to just do both. Hope a lot and work to try and make the hopes real. Sometimes it’ll fall into your lap, other times you’ll have to get your hands dirty.” She paused, tilting her head once more at his statement about jumping into rivers before shrugging slightly.
”Well, I would think it would be better than jumping into the ocean and having to swim back to shore, but I didn’t have much of a choice there. Wasn’t about to let the boy drown.” His cringing at the mention of her blaster made her sigh heavily and shake her head, that frustration growing just a bit more tangible in emotions. ”You and pretty much everyone else around here…” she mumbled as he continued with what he was saying. ”You and you’re your master don’t go on many missions together?” Now that really, really, puzzled her…so much so that her head tilted practically all the way to the right as she attempted to figure out why that might be. Listening to him list off the planets he’d been to, she nodded slightly. She’d been to Alderaan, Cerea, and Mustafar out of those he stated, but she’d only heard of (or read about) the others. At his question she shook her head slightly, furrowing her brow.
”No, I'm not here just in passing and I don’t know how long I’ll be around. It sort of depends on the Council, really. Well, them and my own shameless self plugging, I suppose. I could be here for another month, or I could be here for only a few more days.” With that, she shrugged again and searched for a new direction to take the conversation. ”Speaking of shameless self plugging…what are studying to be? I mean, what’s your master’s specialty?”

"Oh, really? Well if that's calmed, I can only wonder what you were like when you asked those questions. Even if its," he said as he made a tiny little crack between his index finger a thumb "a little bit. Well, most people are generally that curious to begin with. Its why kids always get into trouble doing something they shouldn't have; because they were curious about it. But hey, its not like having a need to know is a bad thing....unless, you know, you stick your hand too far into the cookie jar. But what's life without taking the little risks for fun right?
Hah, what kind of look was it? Cause if its the one I think it is, I've been on the opposite end of them too. Though its usually because I said something I shouldn't have, not because I've been quizzing someone." Jazen chuckled at the times both Locke and his former master, Tylan, had stared at him when he had asked a simple question. They were usually with the best intentions but....they didn't always come out that way. It was a learning process. A very long...painful...learning process. One he really hoped he'd get the hang off before he was off on his own in the galaxy. If he ever made it to that point.
"Oh, I see. Its like flipping a coin. Sometimes you get the hopes you wanted dropped into your lap, sometimes they only come by working for them. Sort of like how we're chosen by masters; some of us just are while the rest of us have to work at it in order to achieve that hope. Sounds like you had to do the latter; I got a little lucky the first time and and someone choose me at the last second. Had to earn the second master though; in fact, I think I'm still earning him every day.
Jazen shuffled around for a minute as she continued to respond to his side of the conversation, stretching his legs out to either side. He'd been sitting cross-legged for over an hour now and he was starting to lose feeling in the bottom regions of his legs. He sighed twice as he felt warmth flow back into them and after a quick debate in his head, he decided to leave them spread like that. Leaning back on his hands to listen, he grimaced a little when she mentioned having a similar experience to Locke.
"Yea, my master did the same thing. Our ward had fallen into the river and had he not jumped in after her, she probably would have....you know. I kind of liked that day though; for all its faults, the simple fact that my master trusted me enough to get him out of the river still makes me feel good. All warm and fuzzy inside and all that other stuff they saw you feel when you know you've done good. And I'm sorry about the blaster thing; my master uses one too, but I really don't see the need for it. At least, I haven't seen a good reason yet as to why we should need one as well."
Her next question had him blinking in confusion for a moment before his mind clicked and, embarrassed, Jazen scratched the back of his head. "Ah, my new master anyway. We've only been a pair for about a year. My first master I went on plenty of missions with, although they were often in the Core Worlds mostly. Maybe its because I'm getting older that I've now getting a chance at places farther out; or the state of the galaxy requires it of us. Either way, I like having the downtime in between missions. Gives me a chance to self reflect and train you know." A frown creased his brow when she said that her fate was up to the Council, at least in how long she was around here. He'd heard that tale before, when Tylan had vanished and Jazen's fate was left to the men in robes up in the little ball tower. It meant something had happened to her current master and the Council was trying to determine where to place her. It wasn't a happy feeling but Jazen bled out reassurance in the Force; he had been given a new master and so would she.
"I'm sure it won't take them long. Maybe you should go talk to some of the knights and masters like you did the first time. Might get lucky and talk enough to one to get them interested. (^_^). As for myself....I haven't really thought about what way of the Jedi I'd follow. I mean, I'm pretty good at analyzing a situation or environment, plus I read and study as often as I can. Guess that puts me into the area of becoming an investigator. Which is what my master is. Wait....isnt' that what you wanted to become?!" A nervous but joyful chuckle came from him then, as the revelation dawned on him. "How perfectly set up is this? Your river certainty knows what way to wind; maybe I could put in a good word for you. I'm sure my master could find a suitable master to take you under their wing. Heck, maybe he'll even just take you on himself, so he has someone else to help him manage me."

Shrugging slightly, she listened to Jazen speak as she rummaged about in her satchel. ”I suppose not, but sometimes my curiosity gets me into trouble, so I’ve had to learn to be very careful with it. As for the look…well…” She chuckled a little at the memory. ”I think it was a combination of frustration and amusement…but mostly frustration. She was trying to find someone specific, after all, and I was most certainly slowing her down. Ah-hah!” Pulling out a small tube of chapstick out of her bag as she pulled off the lid, she smoothed it along her lips before screwing the top back on again and tapping it thoughtfully against the center of her palm.
”Well, honestly, my master dropped right into my lap. I literally ran smack into her because I was so focused on learning my vocabulary words for that week. She wasn’t exactly happy about that either, at first.” Her speaking had slowed considerably, calming into something far more normal and relaxed as she eased into the conversation. Dropping the chaptick back into her satchel, she listened to the short story Jazen told her about his master. Sighing, she shook her head slightly. He didn’t understand that it really wasn’t the same thing. Her master should have been the first one to jump in after the boy, not argue with her about it then jet off after the Alpheridians after she had jumped in.
To this day it bothered her.
”I was feeling anything but warm and fuzzy when I got out of the ocean, believe me. I was angry.” She left it at that.
He continued on explaining about his master and how they’d only been together for a year so far. Obviously she wasn’t the only one who had this sort of thing happen to her, and maybe that’s why she was having such trouble finding one of her own. I wonder how many others are also looking for masters, aside from the younglings… Nodding a little, Elys couldn’t say that she’d been kept to the core worlds much, but their missions had certainly been a bit easier when she was younger, and the older she’d gotten the more difficult they’d gotten. She’d traveled to a lot of places, especially planets that had enclaves on them, but that had been fine with her. Elys enjoyed the travel time.
As a break appeared in his words, she shrugged slightly, especially at his reassurance. So he’d put it together then, eh? Ah well, couldn’t win them all. ”Yeah well, no one seems to understand. Sometimes you just can’t use a saber or get close enough to fight melee…sometimes you can’t even come out from behind cover for more than a few seconds without facing down a storm of bolts. That’s when a blaster comes in handy. Luckily I’ve only been in that predicament once with Ayani, but it certainly wasn’t fun and I wouldn’t have wanted to use my pike in that situation! Besides, what happens if you lose your saber somehow and all you have is a blaster or slug thrower at your disposal?” Adjusting her sash a bit, she shrugged. ”I mean you’re entitled to your opinions, but I think they’re useful and I don’t think it’s right that I should have to make a choice between practicing something I'm decent at or a master…but that seems to be one of the things it’s coming down to.”
Sighing, she shook her head at his first line of thought. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t been doing just that…she didn’t often just rest on her laurels when it came to a situation like this. She liked to think she had a pretty good sense of when something needed to be done and when she could just let the force take over for her. To her, it was most certainly the former and not so much the latter. His nervous chuckle had her snickering a little, her eyebrows raising slightly as he continued. It was too good to be possible…she just couldn’t believe it would be. No. She couldn’t get her hopes up that much…a good word would be the best thing to hope for. Yes, that would be best. She couldn’t jump on hopes that were too far fetched or she’d be setting herself up for disappointment. Despite it all, she smiled.
”Yeah, that’s what my previous master was…I liked it. If you think he’d be willing to put in a good word for me I’d really be grateful. I'm only one person, you know, and can only cover so much ground. Even I get tired of repeating myself over and over again.” A quiet little chuckle escaped her as her face showed some of her frustrated confusion on the topic. ”I can’t even remember how many knights and masters I’ve talked to by now, but it’s always awkward to just bounce up and ask if they’re looking for a padawan or if they know someone who is. I mean, I'm going to the padawan tournament tomorrow with Master Me’ballan, but everyone there will be watching younglings showcase their skills. I can’t enter since I'm far too old, all I can do is talk and hope someone’s interested but…even Me’ballan says the chances are still slim.”

Jazen tried to picture the look Elys spoke of in his mind as she described it, to mild success. He had surely seen the look she spoke of, both on the face of his old master Tylan and on Locke but for the life of him, he just couldn't picture it in its entirety at the moment. He had the amusement down; now if he could only find a way to make it more frustration than amusement, he might just have it. Oh well; he would probably see it again sooner or later(hopefully later...much later) and then he could put a mental picture to what Elys master had looked at her with. Plenty of time to ponder it after all.
"Well, if you're ever curious about something around me, I can tell you honestly....go wild. I've been in that boat before too, so if trouble comes from being curious, we'll share the blame then. Shouldn't be as harsh then, right!" He watched her as he spoke, trying not to think how someone who was physically blind would be able to find something in a bag. However, Elys had already proven, or at least a little, that her connection to the Force granted her a sight all its own. This idea was quickly backed as she let out a "AH HAH" and pulled a small tube of chapstick from her bag. She quickly applied the substance, then sealed the tube and replaced it within her bag before speaking again.
"Well, generally people aren't happy when someone runs into them. I'm sure she brightened to you quick enough; you did manage to interest her into becoming your master after all. If only it were that easy; then everyone would be nailing a master like that. it would make getting selected a lot faster...and way less stressing." Really, it was true. Most padawans were chosen after a master watched them in their sparing tests. And since the apprentices were often aware they were being watched, the pressure to prove themselves usually grew and thus, made what was meant to be a simple skills test into a stressful vie for attention. Jazen had felt that feeling before and no doubt, he would not be the last padawan in that regard. Heck, Locke had probably felt it and Tal and Gabriel and many of the other Jedi he had met so far as well. Worse than the flu that feeling of stress is; although admittedly not as unpleasant."
He winced when she gave a simple reply regarding her having to jump into the ocean to save someone. He felt the anger there and when that's all she said about it before moving on, he respectively did leave it at that. He wanted to make friends with Elys; not turn her into an enemy by poking things that did not want to be poked. Or had teeth for that matter. Instead he continued on with his tale and when he paused after it, he listened to something she wanted to talk about. Although it wasn't something he wanted to talk about this time around, especially considering he'd heard it from Locke.....actually, he'd lost count of the times Locke had tried to explain the values of a pistol to him. The words were never lost, Jazen remembered every little detail Locke had explained to him during those lectures. He just didn't want to accept that fact that a Jedi needed a pistol as well. Just one of those little pet peeves he had. Though as much as he hated the fact, Elys had answered one of his statements, even though it hadn't been meant as a question. She'd given him a reason for why a pistol would be needed.
"I....suppose that's true. But isn't that why we're trained to also avoid combat in the first place, using sabers as the second choice. Truthfully, peacefully rarely works unless the opposite party is willing to compromise but its still there. And then we have our sabers and the Force itself to mend the situation in place of a blaster. I guess if I had to say it, a blaster -is- useful I suppose, but as you say, to each their own. For now, I'll stick to learning how to use my shiny light sword properly first; then maybe I'll look into at least learning how to point the frelling things. Uh.....don't tell Master Locke I said that; he'd have me pointing a blaster down the range by the end of the day if he hears it. I have busy enough days as it is without another item added to the menu, kay thanks.
Point in fact; I have lost my saber before. Although it was during training and not in real combat. Heh....I don't think I've ever been more embarrassed. It was a good lesson at least."
At his mention of asking Locke to look into finding a master who was willing to take her, Jazen felt a small surge of joy in her small frame. It wasn't a massive surge of joy by any means, but it was there, floating about like a leaf in the wind. Well, at least the thought is proving to count. And hopefully, it would be more than just a thought. Locke knew more Jedi than Jazen did by far, most of them knights or masters. Surely one of them was looking for a padawan learner right? And with any luck, they would be an investigator, like Elys was hoping to be. A thought crossed his mind right then, one that lingered for a moment longer than it should have but lingered nonetheless. Maybe Locke would consider taking her on as well....I know some masters have two padawans. But no......he's got his hands full with me as it is. Though it would be an interesting play to see how that situation would unfold. And then I'd get more time to get to know Elys as well..... Shaking his head, he turned back to focusing on Elys, grinning.
"I'll put in as many good words as I can think off. I'm sure I can convince him to at least poke his nose about and let the word out. He's good at that; managing to find out something and acting on it efficiently. Probably what makes him a good Investigator.
I'm not gonna lie, I don't envy having to do that. I'm bad at first impressions sometimes and I'm even worse at randomly asking people for anything. I tend to blunder and say the wrong thing most the time so I generally speak when I think the timing is right. But cheer up; you don't seem to have that fault, not by a long short. Someone in this temple, just like your first master will see you in that same interesting light and you'll be back out facing the worst the galaxy has to offer. Like bounty hunters. Or Hutts. Or heaven's forbid.......politicians! May the Force have mercy on the poor soul that has to deal with them."

Her head bobbed up and down for quite a while as he spoke, listening to what he said. It may have seemed as if she were simply making the motion, or perhaps bobbing her head to some unheard music (well, that song was still running through her head, but…) but that wasn’t the case, she was, in fact, simply agreeing. ”Yeah, it’s all pretty stressful, trying to find a master and such… As he continued on about the blasters, she shrugged slightly. What was it about jedi and disliking blasters? Sure they weren’t a lightsaber, sure, but they were useful in a pinch…she’d used hers before, and she’d seen Ayani use hers more than a few times. It wasn’t like they were useless hunks of metal carried around for looks (though some of them DID look pretty cool)…but sabers weren’t the be-all end-all of fighting either.
”Sheesh, you make it sound like everyone with a blaster shoots first and asks questions later. I don’t want to have to use it, but if I have to, I have to…I'm not gonna stunt my ability to protect myself or others just because I think a saber is the only useful weapon in the universe. I know the Hawker here has saved my butt at least once that I can remember off the top of my head.”
With a shrug she yawned and flopped back to lay on the ground, listening to Jazen once more as she laced her hands behind her head. ”Well, I'm not bad at finding people…I’ve found several investigators and Shadows….but none of them were interested.” Shrugging her shoulders slightly she’d chuckle at his joke and pretend to shudder. ”Eeeewww…don’t even joke about that! That’s a fate worse than death!” Poking her tongue out in his direction, she’d laugh a bit and move her padawan braid to the side so it stopped tickling her shoulder. ”Though, at this rate I might even welcome dealing with some of them!”

Jazen had to choke down a potential laugh as he watched Elys react to his words. To anyone else, the bobbing of her head could mean a lot of things other than what they did. She could have been nodding off, her head popping up and down as she went in and out of consciousness. Or maybe she was remembering a tune she heard, bobbing her head up and down in relation to how that tune went. But Jazen felt it in the Force; she was using the bobbing as a way of saying "I agree to this, I agree to that." The bobbing reminded him of a small toy he had seen on Naboo; the thing had been a small version of a gungan with an overly large head. When you tapped it, its head would shake and wobble, much like how Elys was moving her head, till its own momentum finally faded. It actually made her look...pretty cute.
"It usually is. Then again, the reward and sense of joy you feel when you finally get one is worth it. I thought so anyway...both times."
He listened to her in quiet silence as she gave her opinion on the use of blasters, silently wincing at the thought. Still, her argument about their use was sound, even he couldn't find fault with that. And for some reason, hearing it from her made him wince less than he did when Locke spoke to him about it. Strange, yes it was. Maybe it was the softness in her tone when she spoke of it or the notion that she too did not wish to use it, it was something used only when absolutely needed and when her saber was not going to cut it. Still, Jazen had not yet come across a moment when a blaster would have outweighed a saber. He hoped he would never come across one of those at all.
"Well....I guess I'm just picky then. Or old fashioned perhaps. The thought of using a blaster....it just doesn't sit right with me. That's not to say I dislike anyone who does use one, merely that I myself don't fancy the thought of having to use one. Maybe in the future I might, but for now, I'm quite content with trying to learn how to use my lightsaber to be as effective as it can be. And yes, I'm stubborn like that; my Master has already told me that many times. I think he might strap me down one day and force me to use one; and the scary thing is that's not entirely false."
He hoped that his joke at the end would convey that for now, he wished to end that area of discussion, or at the very least, lighten the mood regarding it. Either way, he returned to watching her as she listened to the rest of his words, his amusement growing with every passing moment in her light and rather unique approach to answering. He actually blinked in surprise when she stuck her tongue out at him, a move that made her look rather silly, what with the lack of eyes to close and squint at him as she did so. It prompted that chuckle he'd been holding back to find purchase and he found his words as the chuckle started to fade, grinning madly.
"Hah, I'd rather face down the task of convincing the grand master to take me as a padawan rather than deal with a politician. At least you know your getting an honest answer then; a politician always gives you a half truth or a twisted version of it to suit them. Not all of them mind you, but then, those that don't often speak in a way that makes the whole matter go "vhop" right over your head. They need a name for the way a politician speaks; Politicese or something like that. And translators just for them as well. Then maybe people would actually understand what the frell they talk about half the time, don't you think?"

Shrugging at him, she put the stressful thoughts of searching for a master out of her mind at his comment of it being rewarding. Sure it was rewarding, but that didn’t mean she wanted to go grey over it! Besides, she was going to be thinking about it enough tomorrow to not want to worry about it further today. When he continued about the blasters, she simply shrugged again.
”Okay…but if you regret it later you can’t blame anyone but yourself. I just hope that thinking doesn’t get you into trouble you can’t get out of one of these days; that would be bad joojoo.”
That was her only reply to that. If anyone had asked her opinion on his stance (not that she hadn’t hinted at it already), it was pretty stupid. After all, what jedi in their right mind wouldn’t (or at least shouldn’t) want to learn yet another way to defend themselves?! There was no use arguing about it though, she supposed; he wouldn’t just change his mind in the duration of a conversation just because of something she said.
She laughed, however, at his reply to her saying that she’d prefer dealing with politicians than finding a master at the moment. He certainly was an odd bird…or maybe not…but then, it took one to know one, so maybe he was? Oh well, either way he was a very strange, silly, boy…it was kinda cool. Smirking back at his grin, she propped herself up on her elbows to look at him more easily. ”No way would I rather that…I don’t think I could handle the rejection. And they do have translators and name for how they speak, you know…” She nodded stoutly, as if absolutely certain that politicians had translators. ”They’re called Comedians and the term is Fiction…or, if it’s bad enough, Deceit or Fraud. The latter happens to also be a crime.” With that, she’d grin in return.

The comment about him not wanting to use a blaster coming back to bite him later on in life had him chuckling ever so slightly. He probably shouldn't have been, since the saying "what goes around comes around" was clear in his mind at the time, but he simply couldn't help it. This was more because he had heard Locke tell him the same thing before, just never with the word joojoo added in. That simply tickled at his funny bone, even though the word was rarely used to mean good.
Oddly, the thought came to mind that despite the fact that he carried one, Locke rarely used his blaster for combat and when he did, it was usually only briefly before he went on the attack or defense with his saber. I guess in a way, a blaster is no different than a lightsaber. It can be used offensively or defensively or simply as a deterrent to combat. Maybe I have just been foolish. He let that slide from his mind; he'd worry about it later. As always.
I wouldn't blame anyone else if it did. I may be stubborn like a mule, but I'm not a complete idiot. Though Master Locke does say I have my moments, but he chocks that up to me still learning what to do and what not to do.
When she laughed and commented on his words about what was better, finding a master or dealing with politicians, Jazen couldn't help but laugh as well. He was glad for the change of topic focus, as he really didn't want to get into a debate with someone he just met over a matter that could easily be addressed at a later point in time. Shuffling so that his legs were cross legged again, he leaned forward a little to stretch out his back, pondering her words.
As he did, he also pondered her. Elys was different from the other padawans Jazen had met, if only for one main reason. They usually were cheerful but also still held an equal amount of seriousness in their speech and act. Elys was, at least so far, just as serious and yet, much more openly happy. Where it stemmed from Jazen didn't know yet, but the natural aura around her was radiating amusement and joy and he was finding it strangely contagious. A good kind of contagious. He really would have to spend more time with her, he thought to himself, especially after a hard day or a long mission. If her attitude was like this more often than not, it would probably do him better than any kind of training ever would.
I guess that's fair. A comedian? Hah, that's so true. I wonder if they have a class for that? I can see the advertisement now; "learn to understand what your leaders of today are speaking about, come take a class in mocking 101". Oh, you forgot Evasion. Like when you ask them one question and suddenly the topic is about the wildlife on Alderaan...when you were talking about Rodia. I think they like that one."
Glancing down at her staff, Jazen decided to ask a question that had been on his mind since she had first marched into the room. Her prideful way of entering, so sure of herself and beaming confidence, made him chuckle again. Yes, she was definetly a strange one.
"So, I've been wondering; what's it like to use a staff in combat? I've only seen it once and it was used by someone we were fighting. And as much as I wanted to know at the time what staff combat was like, I don't think it would have went over well if I asked mid-fight "wait, I have question, what's it like to use a staff?" I'm pretty sure Master Locke would have smacked me for that, if the person we were fighting didn't do it for him."

A snicker and a shake of her head was given to his comment about learning to understand politicians. Did she like them? Nah, not really…she believed most of them were out for themselves, but there were the occasional, refreshing, few who weren’t too bad. ”I dunno, but I think the best class for would-be politicians is theater. ‘Learn to act on stage! Something every Politician needs in their personal arsenal!’” Chuckling, she stood, hefting her satchel over her shoulder again and bringing her pike with her as she stretched upward with a partially stifled yawn. His question had her looking back at him through that royal blue sash.
”What’s it like? Hmm, well…I suppose it’s like using any other staff in combat. Come on, let’s take a walk!”
With that she’d trot toward the door, pausing to turn back and look at him with a grin before slipping through the door and starting down the hall.

Jazen laughed at her idea, folding his arms across his chest. He had to admit, it rung pretty true. How else would they be able to get stand before millions and openly lie about something with a smile on their face? Or better yet, how they could speak the truth, yet not let a single ounce of their feelings show on their face or in their body language. In a way, it was both impressive...and sad. "Ooh, now that would be a fun class. "Learn how to keep a straight face while your bottom itches to the frell!!"
Dark blue eyes lifted to her as she stood, hefting her gear and yawning. A frown formed on his face when she did that, as it appeared as if she was preparing to leave. When she answered his question though, that frown turned into a grin. Oh, well wasn't that such a broad answer....and had he known anything about staff combat, it might have sufficed. Seeing as he didn't though, it only really told him using a staff in combat was the same for every kind of staff; the principles anyway.
Before he could give a response though, she grinned and suggested a walk, strolling to the door. He blinked in surprise at the sudden idea, but grinned himself as he got to his feet, latching his saber to his belt and following after her. She was a quick one, that was for sure, as he had to speed walk to catch up to her. Once he did though, he fell into step with her, much like he did when walking with Locke. As they walked and the bright sun could be seen reaching into the temple's halls, Jazen went back to his previous question.
"Well, I've never used a staff in combat. Nor really managed to read about them. I would assume its a little harder to handle, what with its size and all. Could you give me an idea of it, based on your experiences perhaps? I really would like to learn about such a thing.

(yeah, you remember that shuffling thing I talked to you about…shuffle your characters, but please don’t shuffle mine. They don’t shuffle when they move unless I tell them to. Kthx)
“Ooh, now that would be a fun class. ‘Learn how to keep a straight face while your bottom itches to the frell!!”
She couldn’t help but give him a half confused, half disgusted, look before shaking her head and ignoring the comment. When she headed out the door though, she simply started down the hall…this time with a destination in mind. Now typically she didn’t move that swiftly (at least, she didn’t believe so), but when she had a destination in mind, she certainly got a bit of a fire under her. No drifting on any rivers this time around. As Jazen caught up to her, talking about how he hadn’t had a chance to use, let alone read, about using a staff or other pole-arm, she looked mildly (if playfully) affronted.
”Well that is something we’ll have to remedy! I was just going to give you a demonstration, but now I think I’ll have to teach you a few things!”
With that, she simply kept on down the long stretch of sunlit hall and up a set of stairs to the next floor. Certainly she could have taken a lift, but there was just no point to it at the moment since they only really needed to go up one flight and it was good exercise. Occasionally she’d wave to a passing padawan or two, grinning and chirping out a friendly hello, only pausing once to give a rodian girl about their age a sneak hug from behind before hurrying on again before the confused girl could really do anything more but laugh and wave back at them. ”That was Jiria…she’s been one of my bestest friends since we were younglings. We were in the same clan,” she stated with a firm nod before turning into a room and glancing around.
The room was, for all intents and purposes, a training room…however, along the walls were racks of wooden and cane practice weapons, and the area was smaller than most…as well as give quite a few personal touches. ”Master Me’ballan?...Master?....Alle alle auch sind frei…” Moving toward the back of the room, she poked around for a moment before sighing and returning to Jazen, she shrugged a bit. ”Well…I was gonna show you a few things but without Master Me’ballan here, I don’t dare use the training staves. Not without her permission…”

(Sorry about that. It won't happen again, promise ^__^)
Jazen had to increase his pace a little to keep up with Elys's walk, which had stopped just short of a small run. It was power-walking more than likely, but she moved with such fluid grace that if he didn't know better, he'd have thought she was gliding along the floor. His muscles still hurt a bit from his exercises earlier, but he wasn't going to let that sour his first meeting with a new friend. He was rested enough to keep up with her and more to the point, she'd given him a second wind. After all, he hadn't expected to make a possible new friend today and the break from routine was indeed welcome. That kept a grin on his face as he strode alongside her down the halls.
Her response to his questions caught him by surprise, that surprise cleanly showing on his face as his eyes widened a little, his blink rate increasing as if he was just now understanding what she meant. He hadn't been expecting a live demonstration in the first place. He thought she was just tell him or show him about it in holo's or read about it. And yet, now he was going to get a lesson in using one? That brief moment of confusion on his face faded and in its place, excitement was beginning to form. Despite his dislike for the sith woman he and Locke had faced on Druckenwell, Jazen had been impressed by her combat skills...which, as fate would have it, was staff combat. A chance to learn that? He'd have to be mad to refuse...and a small part of him believed that he didn't have a choice now anyway.
"It is? Well, they say the best way to learn is hands on. Lead the way then."
And as she lead he followed. Down the halls, up the stairs(a welcome change actually to the lift, though his legs argued that point), down more halls. Jedi of all ages passed them, Elys waving to the occasional padawan as they passed. Whenever she did, Jazen would greet them as well, a brief hello and a slight bowing of his head. He chuckled when she randomly hugged a passing padawan, especially since it seemed to catch the other girl off guard as much as it did him. She explained after that she was a friend of hers though, which while a little less funny than the thought of her tackling a random passerby, it still made him grin from ear to ear.
Shortly after, they entered a nearby room and as Elys went about moving around the back of the room, Jazen studied what he saw. At first glance, it appeared to be your stock order training room. The kind that the temple had in spades. No, that wasn't true. Sure they had a bunch that were similar for the basic training but then they had one's for more specialized tasks. Like the room they were in now. Wooden and cane practice weapons dotted the walls. The overall size of the room was a bit smaller than the other rooms as well. He was admiring some of the practice weapons when Elys turned back to him, shrugging.
"Ah, I guess it would be bad to use them without permission. Well, maybe there's something you can show me while we wait. You were going to just show me before; how about we go back to that until Master Me'ballan returns?" He grinned lightly as a thought came to mind. Or perhaps...no that's a bad idea....but....would it be alright if I used your staff and you could show me that way? You don't have to if you don't want to its just.....an idea." His cheeks turned red ever so slightly at his idea; he knew how important a Jedi's lightsaber(or lightstaff) in this case was to their owner. To ask to use it could easily have bordered in insulting her....something that made him turn even brighter red. Carefully and quietly, he waited for her answer...and prayed he hadn't just made a huge mistake.

”I suppose I could show you a few things…but it would be a bad idea to let you use my pike. I could turn it down, but I still don’t feel like possibly getting hi—OH! Master Me’ballan!” The woman’s presence had caught her attention several moments before she’d entered, causing the happy teen to be even more excitable. All but bounding over to the door, Elys puggled the woman that entered, the sound of laughter filling the room. The Cerean woman laughed a bit herself as she recovered from the sudden impact and shook her head a bit.
“Hello Elysia…I didn’t expect to see you today, and I see you brought a friend.”
Nodding, Elys relented in her grip on the woman. ”Yes, this is Jazen. I actually wanted to ask you if we could use some of the practice poles. He’s never used a spear before and he wanted to know what it was like to use a pike. I figured I could show him a few simple things, just so long as you’re okay with it?” Me’ballan chuckled at the girl’s enthusiasm. It was one thing she liked about Elysia, that enthusiasm…though sometimes it kept her from concentrating.
“Alright…you can use the first two staves, then,” she said, moving further into the room toward the back and the bamboo screens set up there. “Don’t break them, and don’t break each other. If you need me I will be in the back.” Elys chuckled a little and folded her arms across her chest after having put down her satchel and pike against the wall. If she had a demi-cred for every time she heard that from the Cerean woman, she…well she wouldn’t be rich but she’d have quite a few credits to spend. As the woman passed Jazen, she’d smile and nod slightly. “A pleasure meeting you, Jazen…just don’t let her get too ahead of you. Sometimes you just have to tell her to slow down.” Patting the boy on the shoulder, she’d chuckle and move along, knowing all too well the playfully miffed face Elys had to be giving her at that moment.
”Yes Master, of course, thank you. Promise we won’t crack any of them,” she chirped as the woman vanished behind the screens. Shaking her head slightly, she’d move over to one of the racks and pull off two rattan staves, tossing one to Jazen.
