The m8a1 King Tu'kata (coined Kilo-Tango by military personnel) main battle tank is designed for one thing and one thing alone: Deliver as much death as possible. Its name is derived from a smaller, but still deadly battle tank within the Sith Military because it was originally designed to be something of a replacement. Instead of being such, the massive metal beast was changed into a big brother of sorts, though the spirit of the original tank remains.
Numerous upgrades were made to the King Tu'kata's frame, including the change from repulsor lift technology to an archaic form: Tracked. Tracks were an ancient but reliable design, and allowed for the chassis to carry tonnes more firepower and armor. Which was what was desperately needed. The previous chassis had far more firepower than the average republic tank, but lacked the stamina. No longer. The engineers at Visari Enterprises also added on a plethora of anti-infantry firepower for added strength to the vehicle.
(paraphrased from sarna.net)
Coupled with a considerable amount of anti-infantry weapons, the King Tu'kata sports a pair of previously experimental Particle Projector Cannons (PPCs) as its main gun. PPCs launch a concentrated stream of ions at a target, casuing both thermal and kinetic damage, and as such is effective against all forms of armor, and even shields. As such, despite being an energy-based weapon, this cannon produces a considerable amount of recoil. The lethality of this weapon is slightly more than a heavy laser cannon that a tank of comparable size would use, but its range is extended considerably further due to the projectile's speed. A PPC creates a considerable amount of waste heat, so many powerful heat sinks were added to the radiator... but the King Tu'kata is very vulnerable to overheating if the gunner isn't careful.
(end paraphrasation)
The PPC creates a single blue stream of ions that travels just about as fast as a magnetic accelerator cannon, and produces a loud screech as well. Also: Electronic countermeasures are installed within the King Tu'kata to ensure crew safety and unit survival. If overheating does occur, coolant is dumped on the engine unit and sent around the PPC to cool it off. If this is not enough, the system will automatically shut down and use the surrounding air (provided that the tank is within a breathable to humans environment) to cool off the inside of the tank.
For obvious reasons this weapons platform is deployed in a very limited fashion, as cost is still a serious concern to the Empire. Ironically enough, it is generally deployed to guarding bases in troubled zones rather than the front lines of a battle. It costs far too much to risk losing on a battlefield, and is generally too tough for resistance in an only "troubled" zone to overcome. Though more often than not its something of an honor guard on a world, as symbol of Imperial might.
