Please note that all figures presented are for the original civilian model. With the once-extensive after market parts for these vessels, not to mention numerous military produced models, the stats vary from ship to ship

There are several unusual elements in this out-dated craft that make it unique. The first is it's engines. Rather than making bulky engines in extended banks or nacelles, the designers at RFS placed the entire engine assembly on the side of the craft and grafted it onto the frame. The wings seen on either side of the craft are actually the high-performance engines required for the craft to achieve it's battlefield role.
Next to these engines, specialized struts are seen. The purpose of these struts is multi-fold. The first purpose is as an engine baffle. A specially designed particle shield can be activated, spreading the particle wake across several kilometers and making it difficult to track. In high-traffic areas, the particle wake blends into the background particles, and tracking it goes from difficult to entirely impossible. A convenient side effect of this, one fully realized by the designers of the craft, is the complete lack of a blind spot behind the engines. Most engines' particle wash makes scanning directly behind the craft difficult at best, but with the significant reduction of such particles due to the baffle, the sensor readings are quite clear. The final purpose they serve is to distribute shield energy. The four struts are each lined with extensive shielding arrays, providing significant, well-distributed shield coverage without sacrificing strength, like many designs tend to do.
The craft also features a full communication suite, and those formerly used by the military generally retain their ECM arrays.
History:
The Falcon was designed several years before the Treaty of Mando'a, but never saw use in the conflict. It wasn't until several years after the conflict, ironically after the most practical use for the craft had ended, that the republic began production of these versitile craft. For the next twenty five years, these craft were at the forefront of modern technology. The republic used them for virtually everything that a fighter wasn't large enough to carry out and a corvette was too big. Some models were given external missile racks to give more firepower. Others had two more medium laser cannon in the wing roots, and two models even ended up having both.
Eventually, the design was phased out in favor of more modern craft. Planetary militia and police forces, as well as a number of mercenaries and pirates, rapidly jumped at the opportunity. They bought virtually every craft that the Republic was willing to sell, and this demand prompted the RFS to begin selling a civilian model partially converted into a light freighter. The craft became popular in the market due to the versatility found even in the stock models, and it was not long before illegal modifications for the vessel were commonplace at shadow ports. But this market boom would also fade. After nearly fifteen years on the civilian production lines, and even longer on the military ones, the craft were officially obsolete.
With well over a million of these vessels sold, however, even twenty years later they are fairly common. Parts are still readily available at numerous shadow ports, and the occasional shadow port or junk dealer will still sell them to prospective customers.
